The Punk and the Snark (Pt. 15)
"You know," Bob grumbled to Daria in DeMartino's class the Monday after the field trip disaster, "I kind of wish we all died in the woods."
As their teacher ranted about Friday's history test, and how the guys on the football team somehow managed to get A pluses in spite of being 'unable to solve the maze on a cereal box'.
"ForGIVE me my SUSpicions, BUT it's obvious that SOMEone, Kevin, got a HOLD of the test BEFOREhand, Kevin, which would ACCOUNT for the JIMMIED LOCK on my FILing CABInet, Kevin!"
"But who does he really suspect?" Daria asked.
"That Jimmy-guy?" Jane answered back.
As Bob laughed, Kevin denied everything. But being Kevin the kid didn't do a very good job of it.
It resulted in Mr. D threatening to flunk everyone unless the guilty party came forward just in time for the bell to ring.
As the Lions in the room exited, still congratulating themselves Bob found himself gritting his teeth.
"Why are they so happy?" Daria asked as the three of them left, "They're going to flunk too."
"Grade-fixing, remember." Jane answered back, memories of her time on the track team flashing before her eyes.
"Oh, right." Daria replied in disgust, "But then why cheat on the test if the teacher would just give them the pass... Oh, right."
"Wisdom at last." Bob chimed in as Daria realized that Mr. DeMartino wasn't the type to play ball with Ms. Li's corruption.
It didn't take long for the three of them to walk past Kevin's locker and to hear the tail-end of Mack's attempt at getting Kevin to own up to stealing the test.
As Kevin ran off, complaining about knowing what it felt like to be hated for intelligence, Bob could smell the blood in the water.
"Hey!" Jane said to the pair, "You two aren't the only nerds in school."
"Does that mean we have to kill him?" Bob asked.
"Nah," Jane answered, "I say you should found a support group."
"But we've already got a support group," Daria informed her, "And we've already reached our three-person limit."
Bob smirked just as he had an idea on how to get them all out of this fix.
Especially since he didn't want his A minus to be canceled out.
