I walk out the door and out to the barn. I walked along the barn aisle, and came to a stop in front of a black mare that reminded me of Witch. "Wow, she looks just like Witch." I turned to see Sam standing behind me. She looked nervous for some reason. "What's wrong," I asked. She looked surprised. It had been a while since I "read her mind," as she liked to call it. Instead of responding, she gave me a small smile and said, "Why don't you tell me." "What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.

"Jake. You've been avoiding me ever since the bonfire at New Year's when you held my hand. And you know what, I'm sick of the way you've been acting! You're one of my best friends, and now that we're in this situation, I need you more than ever. But no, you just avoid me and act like you don't want to be around me. And I'm mad. You know why? Because I like you! And now, not only do I feel like I've lost my best friend, but also the only guy I've ever-"

That's when I kissed her. I guess if she had the guts to say she likes me to my face, then I should be able to go through with my plan and kiss her. She was surprised at first, but she soon relaxed. I then pulled away and said, "That's why I was afraid to talk to you. I wasn't sure if you liked me back, and I didn't want to ruin the friendship we have."

Jake liked me? I didn't see this coming. I guess I got so caught up in thinking of what he might be feeling, I forgot to really look at him to see what he was actually feeling. I sighed happily then took his hand and looked up at him. As we walked down the barn aisle, with all three dogs following us of course, I said, "Well, I guess our families are in for a surprise." "Yours maybe, but my brothers have been teasing me about us for years." I laughed, knowing his brothers wouldn't do anything less.

We heard a bang from behind a door neither of us had been through. We then heard yelling and barking, so we went over to see what was going on. I the room on the other side of the door, there was a guy in a huge padded suit, Dylan standing a few feet away from him, and Onyx, one of the dogs protecting us was in front if the guy barking at him before lunging forward and biting him. When Dylan sae us, she smiled and said, "All done." Onyx let go and trotted off to chew on a bone. Dylan came over and said, "Hey guys. We were just touching up on some training with the dogs. What do you think?" "How are you so calm?" I asked. "They're so intimidating. " She just laughed and said, "You get used to it." "There's a black mare in the barn that looks like my horse," Jake said. "Who is she?" Dylan smiled and let us back into the barn. We got to the mare and Dylan asked, "Is this the horse you're tLking about?" When we nodded, she said, "This is Erin. She's very talented. I hope to go to the next Olympics with her." "Olympics? " I asked iincredulously. "Yep," said Dylan. "I've competed at the last two in both dressage and eventing. Jack, the bay gelding here next to Erin was for eventing and Colin, the gray gelding over there was for dressage." "Wow," I said. "I've always wanted to learn to jump, but because I live on a ranch, we ride western and I don't have the right equipment. " "Oh jumpibg is so much fun. I'll teach you. Here, you can ride Boston. He's an old pro at jumping." She led us over to a bay gelding that stood about 17 hands. "Wow," both Jake and I said. "That's a big horse," I added. Dylan just laughed and said, "Most jumpers are big. You'll get used to it. Besides, Boston here is a very sweet horse. You' ll be perfectly safe riding him."

I stood outside the fence with Ember and Garnet, watching Sam ride Boton as Dylan instructed her on how to jump. It was nerve-racking watching Sam flying around on such a big horse. True to Dylan's word, Boston was a gentle horse, but it was still scary. "You never really get used to it," Jordan said as he came up to the fence next to me. "Get used to what," I asked. "Watching someone you love going over those jumps on a big horse. Sam's not jumping very high now, and Boston's a good horse, but when they're jumping six foot logs on crazy horses, that's the worst. Did Dylan show you Jack?" He asked. When I nodded he went on to say, "That horse is crazy. He accidentally killed his last rider by flipping over a jump. He sent Dylan to the hospital once, but she wont give up on him." "Why do you still let her ride him?" I asked. Jordan just sighed and said, "You don't tell Dylan no to anything. She's been through a lot in her life. She knows what she can handle." He then gave Ember and Garnet a pat on the head, nodded at me, and walked off. As I focused my attention back on Sam, I thought about the conversation. It was the longest I'd ever heard Jordan speak. He was always so quiet. Frankly, he reminded me of me. And my dad and Wyatt. It was obvious how much he loved Dylan. They had a good marriage too. I hoped one day Sam and I would also jave a good marriage.
