Jake pov
As Sam and I walked back to the crossties with Boston, all she could talk about was how amazing he was. I was happy for her, but at the same time I was worried, especially after my conversation with Jordan. If we stayed here for a long time, Dylan would no doubt teach Sam more about jumping. I couldn't handle it if Sam got hurt again. We began untacking Boston. English tack was surprisingly easier than I thought it would be to, handle. "...best horse ever, Jake?" "What?" I said. "Sorry, I didn't hear you." "I said, isn't Boston the best horse ever?" Sam replied. "Yeah, he's pretty great," I said with forced smile. "He's even better when you on the ground instead of riding him." "Jake, I don't want to fight with you. I've told you over and over again that my accident wasn't your fault. Besides, just because he's big doesn't mean he's dangerous. Ace is just as dangerous as him." "Yeah, but you aren't flying over fences with Ace." "Oh, Jake, just try jumping sometime. Its so much fun!" Sam said. "I seriously doubt that will happen,"I replied before taking the saddle from her to put away.
As I walked by Erin's stall, I was reminded again of how much I missed my horse and family. But then I thought about the fact that I would miss Sam more than anyone I know if we were seperated. We were now at a place in ourelationship that I had wanted to be for a long time. I didn't want to fight with her but I also didn't want her doing anything dangerous. "I'm sorry," I told her when I got back to where she was now brushing Boston. "I just don't want you to get hurt." Sam came over and wrapped her arms around me. "I know," she said. "I'll try to be more patient from now on," she added. We smiled at eachother before I leaned down to touch my lips to hers. It was nice to finally be able to kiss her when I wanted, especially after wanting to for so long.
"Hey lovebirds," we heard, and broke apart to see Dylan and Jordan standing there smiling. "We have some guests coming for dinner," Dylan said. "Sam, you're my cousin visiting from Westfall, Georgia, and Jake is your boyfriend. Try not to talk to much, and feel free to excuse yourselves if you feel uncomfortable." "Alright," Sam replied. "We'll put Boston away the go get ready. By the way, what kind of horse is he?" "Dutch warmblood, " Dylan replied with a smile. "You guys did really well today."
Sam Pov
The dinner guests turned out to be Jordan's old roommate from college and his wife. After the initial greetings they ignored Jake and me for themost part. Once Jake and I were finished eating, we excused ourselves and decided to go for a ride around the property. We tackedup Leo and Storm, the horses we had ridden before, and set off. We ended up riding alongside the driveway until we reached a gate. It looked as if a stone fence surrounded their property and there were noneighbors in sight. It reminded me of Nevada, just a lot colder and a LOT more trees. It was a lot quieter too. There weren't any birdschirping or cars going by. It was beautiful, but almost spooky with the setting sun.
When we got back to the barn, we saw Jordan's roommates wife standing by the crossties. Her name was Robin, and she was fairly pretty, tall with long blond hair and ice blue eyes. "Where did you two run off to?" "Oh, we just went for a ride," I replied. "Whatever you say," she responded, then added with a smirk, "You don't happen to know Ryan Slocum, do you?"
