Almost a week had gone by since Lita's surgery and she was moved to the neurology floor of the hospital two days after surgery. Everything was progressing well. Everyday the doctor or nurse would come in and ask her the same questions: What's your name? When's your birthday? What's today's date? Where are you? Why are you here? It irritated her having to answer the same questions over and over again every day but she knew it was to check to make sure there was no brain damage so she had to deal with it.
She was getting pretty bored and restless staying in the hospital, but she knew it was going to be the same when she went home anyways. She was tired almost all the time which wasn't unusual for the type of surgery she had. Her head still hurt, but that was another side effect of the operation. She still had the bandage wrapped around her head because the wound still wasn't properly healed. That was another reason why she was staying longer then five day minimum along with the fact that her blood pressure was also acting up which was being closely monitored, but other than that, everything was okay.
It had also been a whole week since she saw Ethan last. It was the longest time she had gone without seeing her son unless you counted the two weeks she was in a coma when he was born. She talked to him everyday on the phone, but she still missed seeing him and felt guilty for leaving him even though there wasn't anything she could do about it. She was just happy Adam was around so Ethan at least had him for the time being. She really didn't know what she would have done without Adam's help and was grateful to him. She wanted to see Ethan and he even asked Adam to take him to see his mom, but both of his parents thought he was a little too young to visit someone at the hospital and would probably be scared. The fact that his dad wasn't taking him to see his mom made him think that something was wrong with her and he was scared even without being at the hospital which was why Adam agreed to take him to see Lita since she was basically okay. It was something Lita was impatiently waiting for.
Neither Adam nor Dawn had brought up her sleepy confession to her. That is until now.
"Um, Li," Dawn said one day to her friend when she was visiting her. "I have something to ask you."
"Okay."
"Who's Emma?"
The redhead looked at her friend in confusion as she answered the brunette's question. "Um, I don't know. Am I supposed to know who that is?"
"Well, yea. When you woke up for the first time after the surgery, you asked me and Adam where Ethan was and how he was. And Adam answered and then you asked him about Emma."
Lita still looked pretty confused. She had no idea who Dawn was talking about. "I really don't know." But then she remembered the dream while she was still unconscious. "Oh."
"Oh? What do you mean 'oh'?"
"I want some pudding," Lita said trying to change the subject as she looked away from Dawn.
"Li-" Dawn tried interrupting her but wasn't successful.
"I really want some pudding. I wonder if they'll bring that along with dinner."
"Li-" She failed once again.
"It's the best part."
"Lita Chr-"
"Okay okay," Lita said interrupting her before she could finish the statement, looking back up at Dawn. "It was nothing."
"Right," Dawn said in disbelief. She definitely wasn't buying it, not even for a second. "Bull shit. Tell me."
"Haven't you heard that you're not supposed to bother a sick patient especially someone who has blood pressure problems right now?"
Dawn rolled her eyes. "Shut up and just tell me and then I'll leave you alone. Otherwise I will not stop bugging you and you know it."
Lita sighed. She knew it was the truth, Dawn wasn't going to back off until she heard the truth. "Fine. It's not a big deal, but I had a dream and there was someone named 'Emma' in it."
Dawn waited for her to continued, but she didn't. "Yes, and Emma is who?"
She bit her lip out of nervousness before she answered the question. She just knew how the other woman was going to react. "My unborn daughter."
"Your what?" Dawn asked shocked. "Are you-"
"No idiot. I told you before I even said that that it was a dream. It happened in my dream. Let's remember that."
Dawn smirked before she spoke up. "Who was the father? John or Adam?"
Lita scowled. "Why are they the options? Why is John even an option? Why is Adam an option?"
"John is an option because of the obvious flirtation between the two of you." Lita rolled her eyes at that, but said nothing. "Adam is an option because of the history. Duh."
"Adam," Lita finally admitted after a while. Dawn was about to say something, but Lita decided she would just tell her the rest of the dream. "We were married. My dream was basically mocking me. It was like what life would have been had he not left."
Dawn took a moment to register all of that before she spoke up. "So that's why you told him you love him?"
"What?" Lita asked shocked and confused. "What are you talking about?"
"You told him you love him."
Lita shook her head in disbelief. "No I didn't. That couldn't have happened."
"You told him right after you asked about Emma. You don't remember asking about her either, but it happened."
"Maybe I was talking to you. Did you ever think of that?"
Dawn nodded. "I did think about it, but you were talking to him the whole time before then so I'm 100% sure you were."
"Don't care. Doesn't meant anything," she just waved it off because it didn't matter to her and she really didn't think it meant anything.
"Or it does."
Lita sent her a glare. "Shut up."
"Okay, but just think-"
"Shut up," Lita repeated once again. "Please just stop talking."
"Fine," Dawn said getting up from where she was sitting, "I have to go anyways. I'll try to come tomorrow, but I'm not sure I'll be able to make it. If not, I'll try to come when the last kid leaves on Monday."
Lita shook her head. "Thanks, but you don't have to. You've been here everyday after work the past week. You have your own life. I know you must be tired. Just take care of yourself."
Dawn rolled her eyes at the last statement. "I know I don't have to, but I want to. Big difference between the two."
Lita smiled as Dawn leaned in for a hug. "Bye."
"Bye. I love you," With that said, Dawn ended the hug and left Lita behind. But it wasn't too long until she received another visitor.
Adam was driving to the hospital with Ethan in tow so the little boy could visit his mother and see for sure that she was okay. He himself had been spending at least an hour a day visiting his ex. He was happy she was getting better, but he was still worried about her for some reason he didn't even know. Just like she told Dawn earlier that day, she told Adam a couple of days earlier not to come to visit her every day because she was fine and Ethan needed him much more than she did. But that didn't stop him and she said nothing after that.
"Are we almost there?" Ethan spoke up from the backseat. "I want to see mommy."
"I know," Adam answered glancing through the rear view mirror for a brief moment. "Do you see that blue sign with the "H" on it?"
Ethan nodded. "Yes."
"That means we are almost there. Just another couple of minutes, okay?"
"Okay. Do you think mommy is going to like the monkey we got her?" Ethan asked referring to the stuffed monkey in his hand. It had an ice-pack on his head like it was injured and was wearing a shirt that said 'Hang in there. You'll feel better soon.'
Adam sent him a reassuring smile. "Yes. You picked it out for her, she'll love it."
Ethan returned that smile. "Good."
It took another ten minutes until Adam parked the car and made his way inside the hospital along with Ethan. Ethan was looking around the hospital and he seemed to be nervous. It was his first time in one. Well, the first time other than the time he was born.
"Are you okay?" Adam asked as he noticed Ethan was moving a bit closer to him and had a tighter grip on his hand. Ethan said nothing as the two continued to walk towards the room Lita was in.
"What's wrong Ethan?" Adam asked.
"I want to see mommy."
"Okay sweetie. We're going to see her right now." Ethan said nothing.
They stopped in front of Lita's room and were about to enter, but heard laughter coming from inside. That's when Adam saw John was in there with Lita. Neither of the two even noticed the father-son's duo presence. He tried to ignore that fact that it was John in there with her and was about to walk in the room, but Ethan wasn't budging. Adam looked down at his son and saw that he was looking at something and looked like he was scared. He followed the little boys gaze and saw he was staring at Lita and the bandage on her head. That sight probably scared him.
"What's wrong?" Adam asked looking down at Ethan even though he knew the answer.
That caught both occupants of the room attention and it was Lita who spoke. "Hi Ethan," she smiled at him. "Don't you want to come inside?"
Ethan shook his head as he tried to hide behind Adam. "Come on Ethan. It's mommy, don't you want to see mommy? You said you wanted to see her. Come on let's go inside."
"No," came Ethan's reply which came out in a whisper.
Lita took the blanket off herself and sat up in bed with her feet touching the floor.
"Should you be getting up?" John asked as he made his way over to her so he could help her.
"Yes," Lita answered. "Just get away. I don't need help." John did as he was told but was still nearby just in case. Lita just stood up and that's when Ethan finally went inside the room and practically ran over to her and hugged her, wrapping his arms around her legs. She did the same, wrapping her arms around him.
"Um. I'm gonna go."
Lita nodded as she looked up at John. "Okay. Thanks for coming. Thanks for the flowers. Even though they're going to end up you know real soon." She didn't say the word 'dying' because she didn't want to say that around Ethan, he was already scared and she didn't want to scare him even more. But John knew what she was about to say. She already sarcastically said to him that flowers die.
He rolled his eyes good-naturedly and sent her a smile. "No problem. See you later. Bye. Bye Ethan." Ethan said nothing. John was about to leave, but he didn't miss the look Adam had sent his way not too long ago. "Can I talk to you for a second?" He asked the other man as he left the room with the other following him in the hall for a moment.
"Yes?" Adam asked waiting for John to say whatever it was he wanted to talk about.
"Look, I have nothing against you," John began to say, "But I get some sort of vibe from you that you don't really like me and I don't know why."
"I don't know you enough to form an opinion of you."
John snorted. "Right. Actually, I lied. I kind of do know why you probably don't like me. It's because of Lita." Adam looked like he was about to say something, but John continued and wouldn't let him. "Whatever insecurities that you have about me and her are kind of ridiculous. We're just really good friends."
"I don't care about bo-"
John rolled his eyes. "Look, I don't really know you well, but I can tell that you do care. I don't have any feelings for her other than more than a friend. Never had and never will. She's just been there for me and I'm always an ear for her."
"Like I was saying, I don't care what relationship you two have. She's her own person, she can do whatever she wants. We're not even together that I would care if there is something going on with you two or not."
"I don't believe you not even for a second, but okay. I just wanted to clear that with you. So now you don't have to look like you want to hit me every time you see me." It was quiet for a moment before John decided to speak again before he left. "Anyways, I'll see you around. Bye."
Adam went back inside the room after getting the thoughts of what John said out of his head. He saw that Lita and Ethan were now on the bed with Lita holding the Lita boy close to her.
"I'm fine," he heard the woman say to the little boy. "I promise, okay? I told you the doctor was going to fix me and he did. I'm okay."
"Then why do you have that on your head?" Ethan asked referring to the bandage. His voice told Adam that he had been crying.
"Just to be safe," she replied. She didn't know whether or not she should remind him about how the doctor fixed her. Probably not.
"When are you coming home?"
"Soon. Just another couple of days."
"I miss you."
"I know, I miss you too."
He lifted his head from her and looked up at her. "Can I stay with you today?"
Lita wiped away his tears before she spoke. "Don't you want to go home with daddy?"
He shook his head. "I want to stay here with you. Please. I want to stay with you. I don't want to go." He was panicking about the thought of leaving her and started to cry again and she hugged him again as she tried to stop herself from crying as well.
"Okay sweetie. You can stay with me." She looked up at Adam basically asking if he would stay as well because she couldn't really do much right now if Ethan needed anything. He simply nodded. He watched the mother-son duo as they soon fell asleep with Lita still holding on to their son.
Thanks for reading. Thanks for the reviews. Special thanks to justkimmy, mca, Totaldramfan123, rita louise evans, Guest, Ella, Pinayprincesa, Kay, and Dixiewinxwrites12. Hope you enjoyed the chapter.
Just a couple of more chapters until the big reveal. I'm thinking two or three more. Any more guesses as to why he left? And no mca, it has nothing to do with wrestling. This is total AU. No mention of that whatsoever. But I can see why you thought that.
