Sesta Finestra: Tempesta d'Insonnia

Gokudera Hayato was woken by the loud and high-pitched noise of a baby's cries. He jumped out of bed, startled.

"O-oi, that's… that's your… daughter you should…" he couldn't bring himself to complete the sentence as he shook Yamamoto's naked shoulder to wake him up.

Yamamoto's eyes opened for an instant to glance at him groggily, then he hummed and sank his head further into the pillow.

"Don't worry,Fuu-chan's staying at my old man's room for the night. I asked him to take care of her so I could enjoy my awaited reunion with Hayato to my heart's content."

Gokudera's face flushed with anger. "Idiot! I don't want you to neglect your daughter just because I'm here. I'm leaving anyway." He rushed, trying to find his clothes that had been scattered all over the floor.

"Hold it right there." Yamamoto sat up with lightning speed and turned on the light with a stern look on his face. "First of all, I'm not neglecting my daughter. She's with Pops, he can take perfect care of her for one night. And it's three in the morning, where do you think you're going at this hour?"

Gokudera didn't reply and continued with his task of getting dressed while mumbling to himself like a lunatic. Yamamoto huffed in annoyance and got up from the futon, stopping the shorter man by the wrist as he tried to button up his pants.

"I know it was all kind of rushed yesterday, but we need to talk about this. You're obviously misunderstanding something and I can't have that. Not when it means you're gonna try to run away from me again. I said it before; I'm not letting you go again, no matter what." His hold on Gokudera's wrist loosened and his scowl changed into a pleading smile. "Please? Don't disappear on me, I couldn't bear it."

Gokudera hung his head and sat back on the bed, wearing only his pants. Yamamoto sat beside him and held his hands tightly, lacing their fingers together.

"You know, when I came yesterday and found you crying with Fuu-chan I thought you'd already made up your mind about this… about us. I'm sorry, maybe I should've known better. I was just so happy… when I saw you two, the most important persons in my life…I felt like I could never ask for anything else."

The Storm Guardian leaned his head on Yamamoto's shoulder, hiding his face from sight.

"I…I was happy too. Fuuko-chan was so sweet and cute… so innocent. And yet she accepted a rotten human like me. She smiled at me. I was so… happy." The smaller man hunched over and Yamamoto could overhear a choked, quiet sob.

Yamamoto looked at him with pain in his eyes. He hated seeing Gokudera like this. He hated to hear Gokudera speak so ill of himself. Why couldn't he see all the beauty and light that Yamamoto saw in him? Why must he always consume himself with his insecurities and pain? Why didn't Yamamoto's efforts to show him how beautiful he was and how much he loved him ever work?

"Of course she'd love you, she has my genes." He inched closer and hugged the shorter man, surrounding his waist with his arms. "And because she has my genes, she needs you as much as I do."

Gokudera bit his lip so hard he drew out blood.

"What are you even talking about? A sweet girl like Fuuko-chan needs a proper mother, not a broken person like me. She'll already have trouble at school for not having a mother, kids are very cruel. If I were to intrude into your lives it would just be worst for her. She doesn't deserve it. You're still young, you… should marry another girl and maybe get a little brother for Fuuko-chan. That'd be for the best, yes."

Yamamoto should know, Gokudera thought. He should understand. Both of them did. Both had lost their mothers at a very early age; Takeshi didn't even have memories of her, and Hayato didn't learn the identity of his piano teacher until it was too late. He should know what it was to grow without a mother. There was no way he'd want that for his own daughter.

Takeshi cupped Hayato's chin with his fingers and made him look up to meet his eyes. "You could never be an 'intruder'. Intruding means coming in without an invitation, and I most definitely want you in our lives. Fuu-chan too, she'd be really sad if you're not around. I can tell by how she looked at you."

He caressed Gokudera's cheek tenderly. "I want the three of us to become a family, that's all. I'm broken without you. I wish you'd stop hurting yourself for my sake, when all I've ever wanted is to have you by my side." he crushed Hayato against his chest, holding him so tight it was hard to breath. "Stop thinking so hard about it. Just… just give me your life… give me all of you and we'll figure out the rest as we go."

Hayato looked up and saw tears pooling at the corner of Takeshi's eyes. It always ended like this, him being too drowned in his own darkness and Takeshi crying to pull him out. He wiped away the tears with his thumb and smiled.

"From the beginning, you've always had all of me, moron." And he leaned in to seal the deal with a kiss.

Gokudera rocked the baby in his arms with a soft smile on his face. Fuuko was staring at the ceiling while making bubbles of drool and stretching her tiny arms upwards, trying to reach something invisible.

"See? I knew from the start that you'd be a perfect Mama for Fuu-chan." Yamamoto teased, handing him the baby bottle filled with warm formula. "It's Daddy's special recipe full of love, so make sure to enjoy it."

Gokudera rolled his eyes and prayed Fuuko wouldn't inherit his father's idiocy. "I've told you a million times, I'm not going to be anyone's 'Mama'" he grunted, putting the bottle in the baby's mouth and watching her suck greedily. "Hungry, are we?"

Yamamoto pouted, but before he could even open his mouth to protest, Gokudera cut him off. "I'm a man, okay? There is no physiological way for me to ever be anyone's mother; is what I'm saying."

The Rain Guardian grinned. "Oho! Then what would you have the princess call you?"

The Storm Guardian shrugged. "Dunno, I guess whatever is fine with her is fine with me." In truth, it would be great if Fuuko could think of him as a father. If she ended up calling him "Uncle" or worse "Gokudera-san" he'd be seriously heartbroken, but he didn't want to get worked up over it so soon.

Takeshi hummed happily, prancing around the room as the baby kept drinking her milk. "You know? When she's done eating, the three of us should go for a walk and maybe stop by your place to pack your things so you can move in."

Gokudera turned his head to look at him brusquely, a bewildered expression on his face. "Have you lost your mind? I'm most definitely not moving in here."

Now it was Yamamoto's turn to stare at his partner with shameless shock. "B-but you said… you said you'd give me everything of you. It's not fair to take it back now!"

"Are you an idiot? Do you really expect the three of us to stay cramped up in this tiny bedroom and depending on your old man? My place is not that big, but it's definitely bigger than this filthy room."

Yamamoto blushed and covered his face with his hands. "Oh my! Are you proposing? Did you just propose? Are you going to get on your knees in front of my old man and tell him 'please give me your son'? My heart wasn't ready for this!" he exclaimed giddily, feeling like a little girl.

Gokudera didn't reply. He just watched quizzically as his lover jumped all around the room with starry eyes. He put the now empty baby bottle away and slung Fuuko over his shoulder to pat her back softly until he heard her burp.

Yamamoto took a while to realize that Gokudera was piercing him with his gaze. He blushed harder when he noticed the puzzled look that seemed to ask 'are you an idiot?'

"Fine!" he wailed melodramatically. "Take me away, you thief!" and he threw his arms around Hayato's neck with a wicked smile on his face. "You better take responsibility for both of us."

Fuuko burped again, seemingly in agreement, and all Hayato could do was laugh.

-Finito-

Most of the previous chapters have been more focused in Dera and Yama in a more romantic-sensual kind of way, so now I wanted to write with the theme of "Family" in mind. The following 4 chapters are along that line (one of them is a D18 special) Also, short chapter! Yay!

Sorry for more self-deprecating Dera. I just feel he's a guy who'll always be full of insecurities because of all the pain he's gone through, and whenever he lets his guard down, they'll come back to haunt him. But I tried to end it on a light note, so forgive me?

Also, I shamelessly "stole" the idea for the last part from a TakaMido doujinshi I read a few months ago (Yura Yura or Kira Kira or something like that. Can't remember)

Not much else to say, really. R&R please?
