Well, the three people who still follow this story just got the surprise of a lifetime. Do you know how long its been since I updated this story? I'll tell you...5 years. Yep, its been 5 years, and I'm sure I will still be writing this story till I'm 90. Let's hope fanfiction won't become obsolete by then.
Disclaimer: You know the drill.
"James? James, wake up."
James groaned as he rolled over from his stomach to back. Who would think to wake him at this hour of the morning? Couldn't they tell he was sleeping?
"What do you want?" he moaned, cracking his eyes open. He groaned as he saw Peter above him, shaking his shoulder.
"It's morning," Peter said, backing away from the pre-teen whose hair was messier than usual. "Time to get ready for class."
"Ugh," James moaned, sitting up. He rubbed his eyes and looked around the room. "Hey, how come Sirius gets to sleep?"
"I tr-tried to wake him up," Peter whimpered. "But he pushed me away, rather hard."
"Don't be afraid of Sirius," James said, throwing a pillow at his sleeping roommate. Sirius barked in response and grudgingly got up. "His bark is worse than his bite."
"I'm not so sure," Peter said. James rolled his eyes and started getting dressed.
"Hey, where's Remus?" Sirius asked, attempting to button his shirt with one hand and trying to put his trousers on with the other. This resulted in him falling to the floor.
"Probably still visiting his mother," James answered, "and would you put trousers on like a normal person."
"You just wait," Sirius said, getting up and pulling his trousers up with both hands. "By the time we are done with Hogwarts, seven years from now, I will be able to pull trousers on with one hand, no magic."
"I'll take that bet," James said, sticking out his hand. Sirius grinned and shook his roommate's hand.
"What are you betting?" Peter asked. Sirius shrugged his shoulders.
"A bet like this deserves more than just a couple of Galleons," Sirius said. "We'll think of something."
"What's so serious about putting trousers on with one hand?" Peter asked, picking his bag off the floor.
"Exactly," Sirius said.
"What?" Peter asked. James sighed and steered Peter out the door. Sirius followed them out.
"Don't think about it too hard Peter," he said.
"History of Magic is our first class today," James said as he piled some scrambled eggs on his plate. "What a bummer."
"Why on earth would you say that?" James turned to see who had spoken and found that it was none other than Lily Evans. She had a frown on her face that clearly said James was a fool for not being excited about this class. "A chance to learn about the history of the Wizarding World. What could be better?"
"I could think of three things off the top of my head," Sirius said, nudging James in the side. Across from them, Peter nodded his head in agreement.
"Listen Lily," James said. "As much as I would love to learn more about the Goblin, Gargoyle, and Werewolf wars-"
"Oh my," Sirius interrupted. James ignored him.
"History of Magic will be the most boring class you will ever take," James said. "I bet even you will one day fall asleep as Professor Binns drones on and on about Devin the Deranged."
"I will do no such thing," Lily said. James smirked.
"Well if you prove me wrong," James said, thinking for something that Lily would like to win from a bet. "I'll…You'll never have to speak to me again. Of course, if I win, you'll have to go out with me."
"What?" Lily shrieked, attracting the attention of a couple of second years near them.
"We're eleven," Peter said. "Should we really be thinking about dating?"
"Relax," Sirius said. "Evans has way too much energy to fall asleep during the first year. Even if Binns does drone on about the most boring topics in history, James will still have to wait till at least third year before a date is even considered."
"I will not agree to such an absurd bet," Lily said, standing up. She was about to walk away when James spoke again.
"I knew she wouldn't be able to do it." Lily could feel her face burning as she turned to look at her classmate.
"We'll see about that Potter," Lily said, holding out her hand. James grinned and shook it, much like what he had done with Sirius earlier that morning.
"Good luck Evans," James said winking. Lily scoffed and stormed out of the Great Hall. Sirius whistled as he watched her leave, Severus Snape not far behind her.
"Now that is what I call a bet," Sirius said, grinning. "Hey James, I've got the perfect wager for our trouser bet."
"Really?" James asked as he nibbled on some bacon.
"If I win, you make me the godfather of your firstborn," Sirius said, then he stuffed a danish in his mouth.
"What?" James asked. "Why are you thinking about my future kids? Sirius, we're eleven."
"So," Sirius asked. "Do we have a deal?" He held out his hand. James sighed and shook it.
"I need to stop making bets," he said, getting up. "Come on, we don't want to be late for class."
Sirius groaned as he and Peter got up from the table and followed James out the door. Many of the students were just starting to file out as classes were about to start.
The trio got to the History of Magic classroom ahead of everyone else save Lily and Severus. Both were seated in the front row. James grinned and dragged Sirius and Peter to the row behind them. James sat in the middle of Sirius and Peter, with an extra seat next to Peter for when Remus showed up.
"You think he'll be here for class," Peter asked, looking around as Gryffindors and Slytherins slowly filled the room.
"If I were him, I wouldn't come," Sirius said, propping his feet up on the table. Just then, the professor walked in. Everyone gasped, save for Sirius, James, and a few other students who knew what was coming.
"Our professor's a ghost?" Lily asked, unsure whether her eyes were deceiving her. James leaned in front of him to whisper in her ear.
"Like I said, good luck Evans."
So I was going to add more but I thought I'd end it there.
So here's the deal. I have three stories I'm in the middle of writing: another HP story but with the next generation, a AGU/Rugrats story (actually, there's a sequel to that too but I'm not even done the first one), and a Rise of the Guardians fic. There's also an Avatar/Lok story that needs to be edited but yeah. And I don't want to post anything till each story is completely done so you don't need to worry about that. I learned my lesson with my H2O fic. Its too late for this one. I can only go forward with this one.
Anyway, I want to try to finish this...which is difficult cause it has no plot. It never had a plot. I'm making up the plot as I go...not a good idea. Don't follow my example. So I decided that on Fridays, or days like these where I have no homework to do (which will probably never happen again), I will write one chapter, or two if I'm in the mood. They'll be hot of the presses so expect some typos and grammatical errors. Also, I'm at college, I don't have the books with me and haven't read them in a couple of years (yeah I know, I am a horrible fan), so expect some canon issues too. I'm getting everything off Wikipedia.
I'll try to update weekly but there may be some Fridays when I won't be able to. Projects can sometimes take up my Fridays too. Its a pain. Crossing my fingers that my writing has improved. Does Lily seem OOC? Well, she's eleven. I'm trying not to make her like Hermione. Am I being to hard on Peter? Is he OOC? We know little about his character, I have no idea what to do. Harry Potter characters are so complex!
