I can't believe how long it has been since I have updated on this story. I am so sorry guys. Hopefully you guys can remember what has been going on. I will be doing my best to update this story with a little more frequency than every couple of months! But hang in there with me, to those of you still reading this(!). School, work, and real-life responsibilities always seem to hinder my progress and ability to update. So, I will apologize for that before hand!
I wanted to give a quick shout out to the amazing Alexa(xXbrokensmileXx24) for helping me get over the writer's block that I have had with this story. You are the best! :) And everyone should read her stories, because they are amazing!
Without further adieu, finally a new update! Hope you guys like it and let me know what you think! I love hearing from everyone, good or bad! :)
"Okay. A deal is a deal," Will says with pleading eyes. "It's been two weeks. I'm ready to go home."
"But they haven't found any more leads," Sonny replies.
"I know, babe. But you promised only two weeks. That time has elapsed. I want to go back home," Will whines.
"I just don't know, Will. What if something happens there? What if someone is waiting for us?" Sonny questions, with fear forming in his eyes.
"We can handle it, okay? We both have recovered. And we both have our guards up."
"I know. I just can't shake this feeling that something bad is awaiting us when we get back home," Sonny replies, nervously.
"Stop being so pessimistic. Maybe they have moved on?" Will asks, optimistically.
"You don't actually believe that, do you?" Sonny asks, incredulously.
"I'm hopeful," Will says, trying to portray his most encouraging smile and failing.
"But you don't believe it."
"No. Not completely. All I know is that we can't keep hiding here for the rest of our lives. What if they never find the guys who did this? I don't want to sit around just waiting for something to happen."
"We aren't waiting around. We are protecting ourselves."
"From what, Sonny? From living our life? Because that's what it feels like right now."
"You make it sound like we are stuck in some kind of limbo."
"Because we are."
"No. We are together. We are safe. Neither one of us has been threatened or attacked since we left the hospital. That is promising."
"But how long do we wait to go home? How long will it take for you to feel safe in our home?" Will asks, frustrated.
"I don't know, Will. When they find the guys?" Sonny whispers.
"But they could never find the guys. Then what do we do?"
"I don't know, Will," Sonny moans, exasperated.
"I want you to feel safe, babe. But I think you are hiding here. We aren't living our life."
"That's not true. We are living. We are surviving."
"Surviving and living aren't the same thing. And you know that."
Sonny nods his head sadly and whisper,"I know."
"What would it take for you to feel safe in our apartment?"
Sonny shrugs his shoulders and looks down. "I don't know, babe."
Will grabs his boyfriend's hands and looks deeply into his eyes. "All I want is for you to feel safe. In our home. What can we do to make that possible? Is there anything that your uncle can do that would help?"
Sonny looks into his boyfriend's crystal blue eyes and smiles weakly. "I don't know, but we can ask."
Will lights up and says,"Okay. Let's do it!"
"Home sweet home," Will says as he walks through the front door with his boyfriend, holding his hand tightly.
"Yeah," Sonny sighs, smiling. "I've really missed this place."
"Well, I've missed being alone with my incredibly sexy boyfriend."
"Oh, have you now?" Sonny suggestively smiles at his boyfriend.
"God, yes. It's been at least a month since we have been completely alone. And since we have been back here."
"Yeah. I can't believe it's been that long," Sonny whispers, sadly.
"I can't wait to be back in our bed. With you in my arms. Baby, that is all I want."
"Really?" Sonny asks, incredulously. "That's all you want?"
"Well, not exactly," Will laughs. "But it's definitely a start."
Will pulls his boyfriend by the hand and leads him to their bedroom, where everything is exactly how they left it. Bed is unmade from when Will stayed here for one night when Sonny was in the hospital. Clothes on the floor left from the day when Sonny was attacked. Lube still sitting out from their morning quickie before Sonny had to head to work and Will had to head to class.
Sonny is looking at everything and is beginning to feel overwhelmed. That day comes flooding back in snapshots. The naïvety of that day. Not having a clue on what was going to transpire and how much he has now changed since then. Sonny can feel the anxiety building up in his chest. He can't be here. He just can't.
Sonny quickly spins around and runs out of the bedroom, then races out of the apartment.
I can't do this, Sonny keeps repeating to himself over and over as he slides down the wall outside of their apartment. Tears are burning his eyes and he can't seem to catch his breath. Everything is spinning around him and he feels himself losing grip on reality. He lets out a blood curdling scream.
Will pulled his boyfriend into their bedroom. Ready to hop in bed with the man he loves. But as soon as they enter the room, Will feels his boyfriend's hand slip out of his. He turns to look at Sonny, when he sees fear and anxiety flooding into those beautiful brown eyes. Will is about to say something when he sees Sonny dart out of the room. Will is so confused as what is going through the mind of his boyfriend. He had purposefully left everything as it was to make it seem like they never left. But now he is thinking that may have been a mistake, judging by the way Sonny darted out of their bedroom.
Will quickly follows Sonny as he raced out of the apartment, leaving the front door wide open. Just as Will is walking outside to track him down, he hears this guttural scream and sees his boyfriend collapsed on the ground, shaking and pale with his head resting on his knees. Will immediately bends down to Sonny. Will tilts his boyfriends chin up, so he can look into those beautiful eyes of his. But they are clouded with unshed tears and anxiety.
"Baby, talk to me," Will coos.
All Sonny can do is shake his head. He closes his eyes and the tears silently slip down his cheek. Will wipes the fallen tears away and pulls his boyfriend to him. Will holds him in his arms, rocking them back and forth.
"Shhhh. Baby. I'm right here." Will whispers to his boyfriend until he stops shaking.
"I can't do this," Sonny whispers.
"You can't do what?"
"I can't be here. I can't act like everything is okay. I am not okay."
"Baby, is that what you think? Do you really think I want you to act like everything is okay?" Will asks, worried.
Sonny nods his head.
"Son, I know everything is not okay. I know we are not okay. But we have each other and we will get through it together."
"How?" Sonny shouts, angrily. "How will we get through this? You aren't the one who almost died."
"No, baby. I wasn't," Will whispers. "But I would've given anything to change places with you."
Sonny pulls back from his boyfriend and looks at him in shock. "Never say that again. Ever. Please, Will. Never."
"Okay," Will whispers.
"I don't know what I would ever do if something ever happened to you. Do you know how scared I was when you were attacked? I can't ever lose you, Will."
"Baby, I am not going anywhere," Will says, slightly confused at where this is all coming from.
"I'm scared," Sonny voices, shakily.
"I know you are," Will sighs, pulling his boyfriend back into his arms. "I'm going to do my best to protect you, okay? Because I can't lose you either."
Sonny nods and says,"I just want this all to end. I'm tired of being scared."
"Baby, I know. All I want is for this ordeal to be over. And it will be. We will find out who did this. Who is after us."
"No," Sonny states, adamantly.
"What do you mean, no?"
"You are not going to do anything, okay? I will not let you put yourself in danger for me. Will, please promise me you will leave it all alone. Please."
"Sonny. I can't make that promise. I'm sorry."
Sonny pulls back from Will, again, and stands up. He then starts pacing in the hallway outside of their apartment with his hands raking through his hair. "Will, please. Don't get any more involved. Please."
"Son, I am not going to let this guy scare me. Attack you. I won't let that happen, okay?" Will replies, standing up and going over to his boyfriend.
"Will, you will only make things worse if you do that. Please, just stay out of it. I need you," Sonny pleads.
"How can things get any worse than they already are? We have both been attacked. The coffeehouse was vandalized. You are living in fear. How can we just not do anything?"
"Because I refuse to lose you, Will!"
"You could never lose me, baby. I am not going anywhere."
"And that's how I need it to stay. I need you with me. Always."
"I am. Forever with you, baby."
"Then don't do anything, please."
"Fine," Will pouts, stubbornly. "For now, I will stay out of it. But if something doesn't happen soon, I don't know if I can keep that promise."
"Baby, you being alive is more important to me than finding whoever did this."
"I love you so much, baby. And that's why I need to fix things. I hate seeing you this broken. This scared. You can't even be in our apartment without getting scared. I hate this," Will says, angrily as his voice steadily rises.
"Don't you think I feel the same way? I hate this so much. I hate that I can't feel safe in our home. But the only thing that makes me feel better is knowing you are safe. That we are safe. That we are together. That's what I need right now."
"So, will you come back in with me?"
Sonny looks at his boyfriend, doubtfully. Then nods his head. Will kisses his boyfriend on the cheek and grabs his hand, leading them back inside their apartment.
