Oh, wow! I can't believe it's been over a month since I've updated this! I am so sorry for my slacking, guys! School along with finals, plus starting a new job has completely distracted me! I will try to be better while I am on break from school. I just wanted to say, like always, how much I appreciate all the kind words and thoughts about this story. It means a great deal. More than I can really say, to be honest. I just appreciate and love you guys! And thank you for remaining invested in this story, even though I have made it difficult at times with my hiatuses. Hope everyone loves the update! :)

Will and Sonny had a restless night of sleep. After a lot of cajoling, Sonny agreed to stay there for the night. Although, Sonny still didn't feel comfortable, he knew that Will wanted and needed this. But the entire night, images kept replaying in Sonny's head of that fateful night. The night that made him this shell of a person.

Will wasn't doing much better than his boyfriend. His attack kept nagging at him. He could hear the voice, but for some reason could not quite pinpoint why it sounded so familiar. On top of that, he could feel the anxiety radiating off of Sonny. Sonny's body refused to relax in Will's arms. Sonny's breathing would become rapid and small little whimpers would come out. It seemed like every hour, Sonny would wake up with a start. Then Will would wake up and try to console him.

Like clockwork, Will would hear Sonny quietly whimper as his body would tense. Then shortly after, Sonny would pop up and try to catch his breath. Will would immediately sit up and take his boyfriend in his arms. He would card his fingers through his boyfriends hair and whisper softly in his ear.

"It's okay, baby. I'm right here."

Will would whisper this until he felt Sonny relax slightly in his arms and his breathing would slow down. Then he would lay down, bringing his boyfriend down with him. Sonny would wrap his arms tightly around Will, burying his face into his boyfriend's chest. Will would rub Sonny's back until he fell back asleep.

An hour later, they would go through the whole process again. Neither really getting any sleep. Will began questioning himself. Did I push him into this too soon? Are these nightmares my fault? Will he ever feel safe in my arms again? Will he ever feel safe again?

The alarms sound, startling them both. Will looks over at his boyfriend, who has fear in his eyes. Will pulls Sonny into him to drown out the fear that is now encompassing him.

"Sorry," Will whispers, sheepishly. "I should have turned that off."

"No. It's okay, Will. I shouldn't let that scare me."

"Babe, why did it scare you?"

"I don't know. I guess because it's loud."

"Does it remind you of...?" Will trails off.

Sonny nods his head slightly and mouths, "Yeah."

"Was it, uh, loud. Ya know, when, um…."

Will can't even finish the sentence without thinking about what could have happened to the man he loves.

"No. Not really. There were noises until there weren't," Sonny says quietly.

"I'm so sorry, baby. I shouldn't have said anything."

Sonny looks up at his boyfriend and smiles weakly. "It's okay."

"How about we get dressed and go somewhere today? Does that sound like a good idea?"

Sonny nods his head, slightly, and whispers,"yeah. I don't like being here."

Sonny and Will go through the motions of getting ready. They both are just ready to get out of the apartment, where everything doesn't feel like a constant reminder of what happened. They both quickly dress, so they can make their escape.

"You ready, babe?" Will asks.

"Yeah. I'm ready to go."

Will grabs his keys and an overnight bag with both of their things as they quietly leave their apartment. Both know that they probably won't be coming back here for a while. Everything is still too fresh and even though the attack didn't happen there, to them, it holds too many reminders of that day. And Will knows that Sonny is so afraid of being alone there that he feels like an ass trying to convince him to stay for him.

"What's the plan for the day?" Sonny asks.

"I have an idea, but first I want to go talk to grandpa Roman about something. Do you mind?"

"No. That's fine. What do you want to talk to him about?"

"I need to know whether or not they have any leads. But you aren't coming down to the station with me."

"Why?" Sonny asks, confused with a trembling voice.

"I talked to grandma Marlena. I want you to talk to her while I talk to grandpa Roman. Is that okay?"

"When did you talk to them?"

"While you were in the shower."

"Oh," Sonny whispers. "I guess it's okay."

"Good," Will smiles and leans over to kiss Sonny.

Will walks up to Marlena's townhouse with Sonny. Sonny has a death grip on Will's hand, which is beginning to hurt and cut off the circulation to his fingers. But Will won't say anything because he knows Sonny needs the reminder that he is next to him.

"Are you going to be alright, babe?" Will asks.

"Yeah," Sonny whispers, looking down.

"Sonny," Will says, tilting his boyfriend's face up so their eyes meet. "Tell me the truth."

Sonny looks at Will with such sadness in his eyes. "I just. I don't know. I'm being dumb."

"Hey," Will says softly, pulling Sonny to him. "Just tell me."

Sonny rests his head on Will's shoulder and whispers, "last time we were apart, you got attacked. What if that happens again?"

Will moves his hand to the back of Sonny's head and begins putting his hand through his hair. Will knows this is one of the things that comforts Sonny the most. "It's not going to happen."

"But what if it does?I don't like it when you aren't with me. When I don't know what is going on with you."

It breaks Will's heart that Sonny is still on high alert. He hates that his love is still so afraid. Will knows that his plan for today is definitely a good idea.

"I have an idea," Will smiles. "Lets go inside, okay?"

Sonny nods his head as he releases Will from his arms. Will grabs Sonny's hand as they approach his grandma's door. Will knocks softly and waits for her to open the door. He looks over at his boyfriend, who is looking down and fidgeting. Will knows that Sonny has been holding back so much from him and he hopes that maybe talking to Marlena again will help him. Will hates that Sonny can't talk to him, but if he could at least talk to someone that would make Will feel so much better.

The door swings open and Marlena has a glowing smile on her face that is only reserved for Will.

"There's my precious boy. Come on in."

Will smiles back at his grandma and tugs on Sonny's hand, pulling him forward. Will releases Sonny's hand when they get inside and hugs his grandma. Then Sonny follows suit.

"Hi, Grandma. Thanks for letting us stop by."

"William, you never have to ask to see me. So, what is going on? How are you two doing?"

"I'm fine, Grandma. But I would like it if you could talk with Sonny. I think it would help."

"No. It's okay. I'm fine," Sonny whispers, quietly.

Marlena presses her lips together as she looks between the two guys. "You stopped coming to talk to me, Sonny."

"Yeah. I know."

"Do you feel like you no longer need to talk to someone else or is something else going on?"

Marlena grabs Sonny's hand and leads him over to the couch. While Will slinks off upstairs to call his Grandpa Roman. A couple of minutes later, Will descends down the steps to the conversation his boyfriend is having with his grandmother.

"I just don't want to think about it," Sonny whispers.

"But you have to deal with it, Sonny. On your own time, of course. But not dealing with it will not help you. Nor will it help your relationship with my grandson."

"I know. I don't want it to affect our relationship. I don't want it to continue to affect me. I just want this whole nightmare to be over."

"I know you do, sweetie. We all do."

Will sits next to his boyfriend on the couch and takes Sonny's hand in his. Then lifts it to his lips and softly kisses his hand.

"Baby, I hate seeing you like this. I just wish you would accept my Grandma's help in dealing with this."

"I will be fine when they catch the guy, okay? I wish you guys would stop hovering over me," Sonny replies as he starts to become annoyed and angry with the questions.

"Babe, we are only trying to help," Will says, soothingly.

Sonny sighs and says, "I know."

There is a knock on the door and Sonny jumps at the sound. Will grips his boyfriend's hand tighter, attempting to reassure him. Marlena gets up to answer the door.

"Hello, Roman," Marlena smiles. "What do I owe this pleasure?"

"Will asked me to meet him here. We have some things we need to talk about," Roman says gruffly.

Will stands up and walks towards where his grandparents are standing. "Hi, Grandpa. Thank you for coming."

Roman nods at Sonny and then hugs his grandson.

"Grandma, do you mind if I talk with Grandpa alone?"

"Sure," Marlena says, standing up. "Sonny would you like to join me in the kitchen?"

Sonny looks between Marlena and Will, not sure if he should stay or go. But Sonny knows that Will wanted to talk to Roman privately, so he concedes and follows Marlena into the kitchen.

"So, what's this all about, William?"

"I wanted to know if you thought it would be okay if I took Sonny away to Chicago for the weekend?"

Roman looks at Will suspiciously and asks, "Why?"

"Grandpa, he just doesn't feel safe here. And I hate seeing him like this. He's not the man I fell in love with. I miss my happy Sonny. My sweet and loving Sonny. My Sonny whose smile can light up a room. And I want that Sonny back. And maybe if we can go away for a couple of days, things will get better for him. I want things to be better for him. You understand that, right, Grandpa?"

Roman sighs and says,"I do understand that, William. I just don't think it's safe."

"Because there are still no concrete leads?"

"Yes. We have no clue who is responsible for this. And I feel it is easier to protect you guys here than in a large city, like Chicago."

"I understand that, Grandpa. But we need to do this. For us. You understand that, right?"

"Yes. But William..."

"And maybe being away from Salem and relaxing a little bit can actually help us remember some things."

Roman stares at Will, quietly thinking. Wondering if this may be a good idea. Finally, Roman sighs and says, "fine. On one condition."

"Anything, Grandpa!" Will exclaims, excitedly.

"I make the reservations for a hotel. You can stay there for three days. And when you are not at the hotel, you remain in constant contact with me. Do you understand?"

"Yes, Grandpa. Thank you so much!"

"Don't make me regret this, William."

"Everything will be fine, Grandpa. And hopefully something comes up in the meantime!"

"I keep hoping for that, William."
