Not a word was spoken as the pair flew freely through the airless atmosphere. Firnen's scales shone brightly despite the impending darkness that surrounded them. Jack was spending most of his energy scouring the area for signs that the two had been there. They were faster, flying on a set of huge silver wings than the children were in their metal contraption but they had a great lead, it might take them weeks to catch up and that was assuming they didn't slip the knot and get away. Jack ran his hand through his hair in exasperation, sighing and giving up the search for a few minutes to let his thoughts catch up. His silver hair looked black with the lack of light, his face wouldn't have given away the fact they had been flying for days at first glance but a quick look into his mind and it was clear he was going mad. He was glad for the help but sometimes he wished he could have atleast a conversation with the great dragon, learn something about him perhaps. He thought about asking Firnen about what he knew about Arabor and the Humans but after thinking over his question he realised he had all but forgotten how to string words. He sighed and attempted to take a deep breath before remembering there was no air so he ended up taking a breath of nothing which didn't help his empty, mad mind.
Firnen tilted his wing slightly, drifting a degree left. Jack knew not to question the dragon's intentions but wondered if they were closer to the group than he had realised. A speck- no bigger than a particle of dust appeared ahead of them. Jack's eyes brightened, they were finally approaching their target.
"So soon?" He asked the dragon, wondering why- with all the lead the group had- they had caught up so quickly.
"They stopped for a time- at a planet unknown to me and it seems they have picked up another traveller too." The dragon replied, flapping his wings and speeding up in his pursuit.
Jack smiled, although he was glad he would be able to return true peace to Irignum he also wondered what in the first place had driven the two most powerful enderborns of their time to leave? There must have been something they were hiding, hushing up. The mysterious deaths of the two most powerful people on Arabor and they were the only witnesses, something must have gone down- and it won't have been good.
"Xeph?" Rythian asked, waving his hand to call the captain over, "Something's coming up on the radar- and it doesn't look good." He said, he didn't show his concern, but it was obvious regardless. Lewis sprinted over, stading next to Rythian and analysing the radar- something mysterious was coming up on it. Alive- yet moving faster than even the ship. It carried no metal- or any that could be picked up by the radar and yet whatever it was was still breathing without air.
"What? This makes no sense." He said frustratedly. He stood straight and crossed his arms, looking at it from a distance. "This isn't possible." He finished, concerned and- annoyed he couldn't figure it out. The two stood silently, they seemed so different but infact the very same thought was running through their minds.
It was Simon's heavy footsteps that broke the silence, he walked in looking pale, followed by an equally concerned looking Cynda.
"What doesn't make sense?" The dwarf said in his heavy dwarven accent. He too crossed his arms and stood a few metres away from Xeph.
"This." Lewis said, gesturing to the radar- they're alive but-
"what're you talkin' about Lewis- it makes complete sense." Simon said, walking next to him to study the radar. Xeph gave him a look of confusion,
"What do you mean?" He asked, but as he spoke he realised what the answer was.
"Enderborns." Simon replied, he studied the radar further, tapping on it as if he knew something- his face brightened, then darkened when he realised
"What now?" Lewis said, seeing the look on Simon's face.
"Firnen." Simon replied curtly- "they've brought Firnen." He finished, from the look on his face it was clear that wasn't good.
"From what I know- and I don't know much- it won't have been that they've brought him- more like the other way around." Cynda said quietly from the other side of the room, leaning against the door frame.
"Exactly." Simon said- not even turning to look at Cynda- he knew the expression that would be on her face.
"Rythian- don't die please, I'm gonna have to go back with them but you-"
"I'm staying here Kai- I've had enough of that dastardly planet." He interrupted.
Silence befell the group again as they processed what Rythian had just said. Only a few weeks ago he wouldn't let the younger sibling out of his sight and now he was refusing to return with her to his home. He hadn't even thought about his answer either- like it had been planned out for longer than the others had realised. Cynda just nodded and walked out- probably back to the dorms.
Lewis gave Rythian a look that could only be described as- what- on holy Earth- was that? Rythian paid him no mind and continued to stare at the radar monitor. Simon walked out before hell broke loose, running to catch up with Cynda.
"I guess that means you're leaving eh?" He said as she turned around. She took a deep breath and looked at him with a smile.
"I guess so. It's been fun but I can only run for so long before I'm missed."
