Chapter Thirteen-
Almost Christmas

Spencer looked around the room that she was currently seated in. It had been over four years ago since her last time sitting time was a much more joyous occasion for her, though. She was in the waiting room of the doctors office in Philadelphia, with Aria and Ezra.

It was Aria's first appointment, and her and Ezra had kindly invited Spencer to go along with them. Although Aria and Ezra currently lived in Rosewood, they chose to go the doctor in Philadelphia, because it would only be a couple months and they would be moving there anyways. The last time Spencer had been there was after she first found out she was pregnant with Greyson. She knew it was risky (because, she didn't want anyone to know about her pregnancy) to be going to her appointments in the town in which she lived (she went to the obgyn in Philly, too), but with a little disguise (with the help of Hanna) and use of her middle name, instead of first (once, her mother found out about her pregnancy, she used her lawyer skills and connections to help with this).

The last time she was here, she found it wasn't joyous because she was alone.. And pregnant. She was living her worst nightmare; to be pregnant, still in school, no father for her child, and not married (or even in a relationship for that matter). It was such a confusing time for her. Therefore, it made her other experiences at this place terrible.

You wouldn't think that she would be able to be there now, happily, at least, but she was. She willingly came to the doctor's office for a pregnancy appointment with Aria and Ezra, and she was feeling happy and excited for them, too. She had realized that she had to move on from the past, and let herself be happy. And she realized in order to move on from the past, she would need to face it.

So, here she was, sitting in the waiting room of the doctor's office, sitting next to Aria and actually smiling. Sure, she had thought of her last time there (actually, mostly her last times at the obgyn) and how melancholy it was, but she didn't let it ruin her time here with Aria and Ezra. And she was actually looking forward to being there for herself again, in a few (maybe ten) years.

Some other's in the room were probably wondering if it was her or Aria who was pregnant (assuming they were there for that reason), because Spencer was looking just as happy as Aria. Ezra on the other hand, looked to be finding this tedious, but Spencer couldn't blame him. They had already been waiting for forty-five minutes. But, that's what they got for booking their appointment the last day before they close for Christmas, the day when everyone else had their last-minute appointments before Christmas.

.

"Aria Montgomery," said a voice called from the other side of the room. Spencer looked up to see the secondary calling her to the doctor's room. So, up Aria stood, Spencer and Ezra quickly following suit. The three, made their way to the Doctor's room, where Ezra and Spencer took a seat in the 'guests chairs' and Aria on the examination table.

After the appointment -which consisted of mostly just questions from both the doctor and the patient (Aria), a conformation of the pregnancy, and a check of how far along Aria was- the trio parted ways (well, except for Aria and Ezra).

Spencer was now going out to lunch with her one and only. Toby. She had something special to tell him. Or what she would consider special, and she was hoping he would too. She was excited to let him know about this, but also very jittery. This caused her to be very restive, the whole ride to the restaurant. She was either, tapping her fingers on the steering wheel, squirming around in her seat, or humming or singing along to the music playing on the radio.

When she entered the small diner, she immediately spotted Toby. His sparkling, turquoise eyes, tall, muscular figure, and light brown, styled hair weren't hard to spot. He was wearing a light green, plain, v-neck t shirt, ripped jeans and work boots. He had clearly just gotten off work. She thought it was sweet that he would leave directly front work to come have lunch with her.
"Hey," Spencer greeted as she slide into the booth, across from Toby, and unbuttoned and took off her winters jacket.

"Hey," replied, as he leaned across the table to give Spencer a sweet greeting kiss, "How are you?" he asked after pulling back.

"I'm great. I just got back from Aria's first pregnancy appointment, actually," Spencer replied with a adorable -as Toby would describe it- grin.

"Really? How was it?" Toby asked, curiously.

"It was great. The baby's developing fine, so far. She's only four weeks along, so it's too early to see the baby, but I'm glad she asked me to come along," Spencer replied, gratefully.

"I'm glad that you enjoyed it," Toby said, genuinely. He was surprised that she was feeling so happy after revisiting that place, but he was happy for her. She seemed to be moving on.

The waitress soon arrived to take their orders. Spencer ordered a greek salad and Toby a bacon cheeseburger. Once the waitress had left, Spencer decided that it was time to announce that she had something to tell him.

She cleared her throat, "So, Toby, I have something to tell you."

Toby's attention quickly adverted from the place-mat in front of him, to Spencer and what she had to say.

"What is it, dear?" Toby asked, concerned.

"Um, well, I just wanted to tell you that I think I'm finally moving on from the whole pregnancy/Greyson thing. So, I would like to formally meet Greyson," Spencer announced, but quickly add, "As your son, though, not mine. I definitely don't think that we should tell him that I'm his mother yet, for a long time.. I mean if you even want to tell him, that is."

"Of course, I want to tell him, but you're right, not yet. I'm glad you want to meet Greyson, though. I think that we should do it soon, like, during Christmas," Toby said.

"Sounds great," Spencer commented, with a smile plastered onto her flawless face.

"Actually, what about tomorrow?" Toby added, quickly after.

"Really? Are you sure? Wouldn't you want to spend Christmas eve alone with Greyson?" Spencer questioned.

"No, really. Unless you already have plans. There is no other way I would want to spend my Christmas Eve, than with Greyson and you. Sure, I would enjoy it with just Greyson, but you being there would make it a thousand times better," Toby said, sounding a little cheesy.

"Well, then, I can't wait," Spencer said.

"Greyson will be very happy to have someone else in the house to play with," Toby said, thinking about his little bundle of joy, who was currently spending his nap time at Toby's mother's.

"I hope he likes me," Spencer confessed.

"Of course he will! I mean you are his mother. Even if he doesn't know it consciously, he knows it subconsciously," Toby reassured.

.

After the waitress came back to give them their meals, Spencer and Toby got engaged in another conversation, this one about Christmas day.

"So, what are your plans for Christmas day?" Toby asked Spencer.

"Um, I actually don't have any. Emily will be at Samara's all day, so I will be by myself all day. Well, until night, when I'll be coming to Hanna's for her Christmas Extravaganza party. Oh, speaking of which, do you want to come with me? Caleb will be there. Unless you have other plans or want to be with Greyson," Spencer answered/asked.

"Of course, I will come with you. My mother wanted to spend Christmas night with Greyson, anyways," Toby replied.

"Great! It starts at seven," Spencer said.

"Okay, but going back to Christmas day.. You could always spend it with me and Greyson, you know. We might get a little lonely. You can get stay over Christmas Eve night, spend Christmas day with us, then we can go to Hanna's party, Christmas night," Toby suggested.

Spencer swallowed the salad she had in her mouth before saying, "No, I couldn't do that! It's bad enough I'm intruded on your Christmas Eve, I wouldn't want to intrude on your Christmas day too."

"Oh, come on, Spence! I want you there! And I'm sure Greyson will too, after he meets you tomorrow. I really want you too," Toby practically begged, reaching across the table to grab her hand.

Spencer sighed, sure she wanted too, but she still felt like she would be intruding.. Even if he wanted her too. She didn't want to spend her Christmas alone, though.. It just wouldn't be right. "Fine, I'll spend Christmas with you," Spencer gave in, a smile forming on her face.

"Great. I can't wait," Toby said, giving her hand a little squeeze, before bringing it back to finish eating his meal.

Tuesday, December, 24th, 2013

The next evening, Spencer was in her car, searching for Toby's house. She had never been there before, so Toby had written down the address for her, before they had left the restaurant the day before. According to the directions her phone were giving her, she was only a street away. The closer she got, the more nervous she got. She was nervous yesterday, on the way to the restaurant, but it was nothing compared to the nervousness that she was feeling, currently. Her heart was pounding and she could swear butterflies were fluttered not only around her stomach, but in her intestines, and it seemed to be spreading to all her organs.

She finally pulled into the driveway of the right house. The house was beautiful. It was a new two-story home with tan-colored and stone siding and a two-door garage.

After a couple minutes of just sitting in her car and convincing herself that she had to go in there and that she couldn't go back at that point, Spencer finally opened up her car door, and stepped out. She didn't go any farther though. She just stood up outside her car, yet again tried to convince her feet to move.

She was physically shaking.. But not because of the winter chill the filled the air, but because of the anxiety she was feeling for the moment that was about to happen. She was going to meet her son for, well technically the second time, but formally the first. She didn't know how to act or how to feel. But, she gathered up the courage and walked up the pathway to the front door of the Cavanaugh's and knocked on the door, and waited for Toby to answer.

Within only a few short seconds Toby opened up the door and greeted Spencer.
"Come on in, babe," Toby said, moving out of the way so she could come into his house.
Spencer smiled fawningly at Toby's new 'nickname' for her. His voice was somehow comforting to her and it soothed her nerves a little.
She made her way into in the foyer of Toby's house and then followed him into the living room. "Wow, you have a very nice house," Spencer commented. "You said you build it, right?" She then added, thinking back to the day she first meet him, when he mentioned that to Caleb.
"Thank you. And I did," Toby answered. The house was quite in date with leather couches and a 50 inch flat screen television and a kitchen with granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, a island with leather barstools surrounding it and matching dining chairs around the dark-stained wooden dining table at the breakfast nook.
"You can wait here, in the living room, while I go up and get Greyson from his room, where he is napping," Toby said.
"Okay, I'll be waiting," Spencer assured. So, Toby made his way up the stairs and to Greyson's bedroom. 'Great' Spencer thought. Time alone. And time alone meet time to think. And, thinking at this point, meant worrying about meeting Greyson. And, there was no way she couldn't think about that at the moment. The only way she wouldn't think about that at the moment was if someone else was there to distract her. She was fine until Toby left. And the worst part was that he was going to get Greyson. Which meant she was going to meet him for the 'first' time. She leaned forward in the couch she was sitting on, placed her elbows on her thighs and put her head in her hands. She let out a big breath. She was worried she was going to say something wrong. She was worried she was going to do something wrong. She was worried Greyson wasn't going to like her. She knew what Toby said the day before was true, about Greyson liking her because deep down he knew she was his mother, but there was still the possibility that he didn't like her. What was she supposed to do then? That would be devastating. But, that was a chance she had to take.

Spencer was knocked out of her thoughts by the sound of footsteps trampling down the stairs. She turned her head around to see Toby and Greyson walking down the stairs. Toby was walking down the stairs, along side of Greyson, holding his hand to make sure he didn't trip up again. Even after the deep thoughts she just had and all emotions and anxiety she was feeling, she had to admit it was very cute and heartwarming to see Toby with Greyson. Especially, seeing Greyson's teeny fingers wrapped around Toby's large pointer finger, as Toby helped to guide Greyson down the stairs.

As, Toby and Greyson rounded the corner to enter the living room, Spencer stood up from her spot on the sofa and waited to be introduced. Toby and Greyson stopped in front of Spencer.
Toby lightly placed his hand on Spencer's arm and whispered, "It will be fine," in her ear, after noticing her tensed form, shaking hands and worried look in her eyes. "Hey, do you want to introduce yourself to my friend?" He asked Greyson, after bending down to his level.
"Hi, pwitty wady. My name is Gweyson Cavonog. Who is woo?" Greyson said, in his adorable toddler voice.
Spencer smiled as him as she kneeled down to his height, "Hi there, Greyson. My name is Spencer," she said, in a kid-friendly voice.
"Just Pencer? No odder name?" Greyson asked, curiously.
"Well, Spencer Hastings, actually," Spencer added.
"Otay, Pencer Hasding, dis is my daddy, his name is dad," Greyson said, pointing to Toby.
"My name isn't actually dad. It's Toby, I've told you this before, Grey," Toby explained.
"Actually, I already know your daddy," Spencer explained to Greyson.
"Oh, well, do woo wanna make some cookies wiff me and my dada?" Greyson asked, looking up at Spencer with his big brown puppy-like eyes.
"I would love to! I love cookies!" Spencer exclaimed.
"Woo wove cookies?! I wike woo alweady! Me wove cookies too," Greyson said.
Spencer smiled when he said he liked her. "Wow! What is your favourite kind?" Spencer asked, standing back up, and following Toby and Greyson to the kitchen.
"C-cho-chocho chip, of course!" Greyson exclaimed, stumbling to say chocolate.

Toby, who had left Spencer and Greyson alone to engage in their conversation, lifted Greyson up with his muscular arms and placed him in one of the barstools that were placed by the island in Toby's kitchen.
"Spencer, can you get the Pillsbury chocolate chip cookie dough in the fridge please?" Toby asked, to keep Spencer busy, while also getting her a bit more familiar to his kitchen. Toby had choose the Pillsbury already made dough, to keep it a bit more simpler for Greyson.
"Can I do someting?" Greyson asked his father.
"Hm," Toby thought about it, "you can get the Christmas cookie cutters in the cupboard, okay? You know where they are to, right?"
"Yup, they in da boddem cupboard, next to da fwige," Greyson said, as Toby lifted him back down from the stool. Greyson waddled over to the cupboard, happy to have a 'mission'. He grabbed the container of Christmas themed cookie cutters and made his way back to the island, where Spencer had also, came back to, after getting the cookie dough.

Toby, Spencer and Greyson had spent their evening baking their cookies. Greyson had announced that they had to reserve some of the cookies to leave for Santa Claus, so they couldn't eat them all. So, Spencer had two, Toby had two, and Toby aloud Greyson (seems it was Christmas) to have three cookies (not all at one time, of course). They were going to leave four cookies for Santa. So, that meant that they had thirteen cookies left. Some for the next and following days and some for Spencer to bring home (and share with Emily).
Toby was now upstairs in the washroom, bathing Greyson and putting him to bed. Spencer was still downstairs in the living room. Toby had made sure that she was comfortable, by getting her some coffee, giving her the television remote, and allowing her to use the television, until he got back. Spencer had decided to use her 'alone time' to text the girls and let them know how it was going. And it was going great. She was so happy with the outcome of her evening. Greyson loved her. He even introduced her to his stuffed snuffaluffagus, which according to Toby, he would never show to anyone else. He even picked up on her nickname, Spence (or as he would say, 'Pence').
Spencer had to admit- she created a very cute little boy. He had short, light brown hair, that slightly curled at the end and almost transparent golden brown eyes. And his toddler lisp definitely added to his cuteness.

It wasn't very long until Toby came back down. Apparently, Greyson wasn't much of a fighter, when it came to bath time.
"He must have been pretty tuckered out. It didn't take him very long to fall asleep. And, he didn't fight against taking a bath or getting into bed," Toby said, after he sat next to Spencer on the couch, she was sitting on. "So, would you like to watch a movie?"
"Sure. Me and my sister used to always watch Christmas movies on Christmas Eve night," Spencer replied.
"So did me and my parents," Toby said, as he searched the channels on television for a Christmas movie.

A movie, cup of hot chocolate each, and a bowl of chocolate covered pretzels between them, later, Toby and Spencer had decided that it was time to make their way to bed, themselves.
"If you're comfortable, you can sleep with me, but if not, I have a couple guest bedrooms that you could sleep in," Toby announced, as he and Spencer were making their way up the stairs.
"I'm fine with sleeping with you, I mean we are a couple," Spencer replied.
"Great," Toby said, and turned to smile at Spencer. "So, here is my bedroom," Toby announced, as they entered it, "You can change in the master bathroom, right there," he pointed to it, "and, I'll just change out here," he said, referring to his bedroom.
"Okay," Spencer said, as she made her way into the bathroom, carrying her overnight bag on her shoulder. She took off her burgundy knit sweater and jeans and changed into her grey tank-top and short black shorts. Then, she brought all her hair up into a high ponytail on the top of her head, washed her face and brushed her teeth. She took one last look in the mirror, pulled two short pieces of hair in front of her ears out of either side of her ponytail and made her way back into Toby's bedroom.
When she came out, Toby was already under the covers, sitting up in bed. Because he was sitting up, his chest was not covered with the duvet that covered his bed, making Spencer notice that he was not wearing a top. And damn wasn't she glad that he wasn't. She was a little curious to see what he was wearing underneath the covers. She was kind of hoping it was nothing. 'No. She had to get these thoughts out of her head. That was so wrong. She shouldn't have been thinking those things, this early in the relationship,' Spencer scold herself.
"Hey," Spencer said, trying to distract herself from her thoughts. Her voice was a little more raspy than usual.
"Hey. Climb on in," Toby said, pulling down the his bed sheets, so she could lay down. Spencer cooperated and lid down on the bed, while Toby pulled his bed-sheet and duvet back up over her. She made herself comfortable and Toby reached over to his bed-side table and turned off the lap.
"Goodnight, baby," Toby said, and he kissed her forehead and wrapped his arms around her petite waist.
"Goodnight," Spencer whispered as she cuddle into him. And she drifted off into a peaceful sleep.

A/N: I was planning on posting this Christmas Day, but I didn't get it done in time :(. And the worst part... I didn't even write all I was planning on for this chapter. I was going to include Christmas Day in this chapter, too, but, I barely had time to write this much as it was and I really wanted to post it before 2014, seems I didn't get it up on Christmas Day. And, I know, I know, I had lots of time between Christmas and now to write, but I was super sick for most of that time (I still am, actually) and wasn't feeling up to writing. But! This is still a pretty long chapter, so be thankful for that.(I can't imagine how long it would be if I added Christmas Day in there, like originally planned, too). It's actually the longest chapter I've written on here, so yeah :)
But, anyways, I'll translate, if you didn't understand Greyson's talk, so just let me know.
Merry (late) Christmas, if you celebrate!

Happy new year! (Only half an hour until 2014 for me!) (and yes, I'm home on New Years Eve and idc, haha)
Follow, favourite, review.
