The mission part 3
Carter's POV
We arrived at the Colosseum and the sight was not pretty, Templar's and assassins are fighting near it, we jumped of the rooftops and landed on top of the Templar's and drew our weapons, we fought the Templar's but they outnumber us so we whistled and then crossbow bolts came down on them to soften up the numbers so now we could easily take them down, and some of the assassins have jumped out of the rooftops and landed on some of the other Templar's to help us get the victory. 2 minutes have passed and we vanquished them all, then the papal guards came in, everyone start to run away and I just joined them in then run, I don't know why but it seems as if the papal army is not what the papal assassins would like to meet in battle, but I noticed something else as well, the assassins are all in black and white with their own markings, as we slowed down and escaped the papal guards I caught up with Leonardo.
"Leonardo why are we running from the papal guards?"
"The pope is allied with them so if we were to brawl with the Templar's it must be some where where they wouldn't call upon the guards but we must avoid them in any means we can."
"And why are your men all in different markings?"
"Oh it's simple, every assassins must have their own specialty and weaponry, unlike our foreign brothers around us except for us and the Byzantine assassins we have organized them, so the can choose what ever weapons they can use."
"Back in France we just teach them with the sword Leonardo, the ax, mace, dagger, crossbow, and bow are optional weapons."
"Hahahahahahahahahaha Carter time for you French and the others to learn the ways of choosing, we learned that if you give the assassin the right weapon, the weapon that he is comfortable with he would be a great assassin."
"I see, my brothers in France would like to learn this."
"It's an excellent idea of ours, as for the markings it actually shows what kind of assassins they are, we have many type of assassins jobs, the air assassin jump of of the roof tops and take down any one that is his target, the archer assassins would use their bows and crossbows from a distance, the shadow assassins are meant and better suited for reconnaissance and spying, and last but not leased the warrior assassins, they are more suited for combat, now they all are trained for stealth but they use it for ambush but they are pretty effective and believe me we are very well organized."
"I see."
"You have been very surprised with our ways carter but we are not done yet, there are 2 dens that we help, one is taken and the other is under siege, and yet I can't be in 2 places at once so will you help me with that?"
"Oui I will."
"Grazie."
"Ok here goes nothing."
"Remember ok the assassins there will show you where they are, they are just about north of here."
"All right thank you Leonardo."
I start to go to the rooftops then I start to run to the northern part of Rome, I came across some of the retreating vanguard of the Templar's from the roof, I seem to notice that the Templar's are falling back but they may come back any minute but I have to make sure that they are, I continued on my way to the den and then I saw one of the assassins stationed there have lit up a torch, as I jumped from roof to roof I went up to the man, he looks clear to be a master assassin but he has a bow which is clearly not a leaders weapon but I have been trained not to use the crossbow or a bow for warfare but only for the hunt, as I came to him he greeted me in a papal way."
"Lo saluto a voi il mio signore."
"No need for the formalities."
"Si Carter, but were is Leonardo?"
"He is busy with something."
"Oh and you are here for him?"
"Oui what's the situation?"
"We have defeated the vanguard but they are sure to come back here soon at night fall."
"Then we must get ready."
We went in the den and looked at the map, I start to notice that the den has a dead end, no way in or out if we set up our defenses, I start to think how we should defend it then an idea came in.
"Listen up we must set up a few rows of walls here, here, here, and here, and set squads of archer and air assassins on the rooftops here, here, here, here, and also all over here, and also behind the walls, the warriors will be our last resort if the Templar's broke through wall, and as for the shadow assassins must find a way to slow the Templar's down and signal us so they would let us know that the Templar's are coming. Do you guys have a weapons trade with the Byzantine assassins?"
"That we do, in fact they have introduced us to the Greek fire, it's a weapon that spews flames to the enemy and it will light them up into flames."
"Good cause we'll need it, set them up on the barriers that we will use for defense, and are you're men ready?"
"They are now."
We start to set up the defenses, and I was pleased to see that they were doing a good work with it, the walls are reinforced and they have open slots for the archers and the crossbowmen to shoot through, it is a good strategy to use, the Greek fire weapons are set up on walls, where we will light the Templar's on fire. Night has fallen I have set up my self on the roof tops with a crossbow and a quiver full of bolts, the others have set them selves on the positions at the place where I have set them, the shadow assassins have singled us and we got ourselves positioned for battle, the Templar's have came in vast numbers in their first wave, we shot them down easily but some of them came to the wall but before they start to climb they are torched and are burning to like a raging fire. Wave after wave we took them down until they brought in a battering ram, the ram is simple but it is made wood which makes it easy for us to torch it, but it was close enough to break the wall down, the second and the third wall was down, the forth got badly damaged but the warrior assassins start to storm out of the wall and start the bloodiest of the fights, foot combat, every where I see men are falling but we are starting to take the other Templar's down, and we got them on the run, the one that are trying to escape are taken down by our archers, crossbowmen, and air assassins, they are trapped by our techniques and tactics, later on as day break came I was on the roof top with the master assassin of the den, we watched as the papal guard start to carry the bodies away as they try to find out what have happened.
"Do you think that they will find out?"
"They will never Carter, but it will calm down in a week or 3, eventually it will pass and be forgotten."
"Good."
"Thank you for helping my den maesta."
"I told you before no need for that, in fact I have business to attend to."
"I see."
As I left the den I went to the HQ, on my way I saw some of the papal guards and they are not quite happy about what has happened, but I continued on my way to the HQ, I went inside and there I met Leonardo, I went up to him and start to ask some questions.
"And how did it go?"
"The den is taken back and every thing is back to normal there, what about you did you defend the den correctly?"
"They nearly broke through with their battering ram but we held them of."
"Good."
"Now you promised me that the cardinal that you were talking about will meet me but when?"
"He has scheduled the date 2 weeks from now, he has other business to do so you have to be patient, we will help as I promised, and we will do it in any means, and help you get the artifact."
"Thank you Leonardo."
"Your welcome, do you want some wine?"
"No thank you, I will settle for some water now, I had a hard fight last night."
"I see, but now you will rest."
