"Can you give back to God what brought you here

Everyone around you suffocates
Think I don't believe in God
Everyone around you thinks I'm insane
But the drugs have made me grey " -COLD

Chapter Fifteen- Crashing

There had only been two entries inside the little journal. The first one was a poem and the second one was a mixture of things. The poem bothered him but not as much as the second entry. She didn't think he cared for her? He was too distant? Sesshomaru ran a clawed hand over his face before realizing something. He could use this information to his advantage.

"Hey mom, can I ask you something," Inuyasha sat himself across from Izayoi.

"Sure dear, is everything okay?"

"Yeah I was just wondering something. Why is Sesshomaru going through all this trouble for this girl? They are just friends, aren't they?"

Izayoi smiled slyly once she realized what Inuyasha was trying to get at. He was trying to figure out just how close he was to winning that bet.

"I'm not sure Inuyasha. What do you think?"

Inuyasha shrugged. "I guess even Sesshomaru can feel sorry for someone."

"You think that's all Sesshomaru feels for Kagome?"

"Well yeah, its not like he even tries to spend time with her or anything. It doesn't even look like he talks to her that much at school and yet he went through all this trouble to get her here. If that's not sympathy than what else is it?"

"I don't know, why don't you ask Sesshomaru?"

"Yeah right," the hanyou snorted. "Like that stiff bastard would tell me anything."

"Watch that mouth of yours. Now I need to run to the store for a few things for dinner, want to join me?"

Inuyasha made a face. "Yeah cuz we all know guys my age just love going shopping with their mom."

The older woman ruffled his hair. "Hey I can hope can't I? If your father gets home before I do, let him know I'll be back soon."

"Yeah sure." He watched as his mother left the room. A voice from across the room startled him.

"So you think the same thing I do, huh?"

Inuyasha looked over at Kagome. "Kami, don't sneak up on people like that. You trying to give me a heart attack or something?"

Kagome fiddled with the hem of her shirt. "Sorry, I thought you would have been able to sense me or something."

Inuyasha nodded. "You have sort of a floral scent so its hard to mistake yours as just like my mom's perfume or something."

"Inuyasha...can you help me out with something?"

"Depends...what's in it for me? Just kidding. What do you need help with? If it's , your barking up the wrong tree. Sesshomaru likes to call me academically challenged."

"No, nothing to do with homework. I was wondering if you knew what would be a good place for me to apply for work. I want to get a job but wasn't sure what I could do in Japan, especially since I only speak English."

"Um, I'm not sure. I can see if Kikyou can think of anything. What would you want a job for? Is there something you need to buy or something?"

"I thought maybe I could save up and eventually get my own place...so I don't have to keep living here."

Inuyasha's ears went back. "Oh, so you don't like my family then?"

"No! That's not it at all. I think your mom is really kind and your dad is pretty cool. I just don't feel comfortable...like an outsider. Besides...I don't like pity. I don't need your brother keeping me around just because he feels sorry for me."

Inuyasha's face colored in embarrassment. He hadn't realized she had been listening to them. He glanced over at the raven haired girl and couldn't help but feel sorry for her. He knew all too well what it felt like to feel like an outsider.

"I'll ask Kikyou tomorrow about what she thinks you might be able to do for work...and if you want I can teach you a little Japanese...it might help, ya know?"

Kagome smiled in appreciation. "Thanks Inuyasha."

"I was wondering where you were," a voice from the door way startled both the teens. "I'm sorry I'm late for your session Kagome, traffic was horrible on my way over here." He glanced over at his son. "How was school today?"

"Fine. Mom wanted me to let you know that she had to go grocery shopping but will be back soon."

"Where's your brother?"

Inuyasha shrugged. "I ain't that guy's keeper."

"Fair enough," InuTaisho looked to Kagome, "You ready for your session?"

Kagome nodded, following the older man out of the kitchen.

Sesshomaru stared up at his bedroom ceiling, lost in thought. How could he get Kagome to see that he did care? Taking care of her while she was sick should have worked in his favor. Had she been coherent enough to notice the effort he had put in? Maybe not...she had been pretty out of it.

He wouldn't let this get him down. Tomorrow as a new day and he'd show her a better Sesshomaru.

Kagome laid in bed that night, her mind spinning. She would leave before he left her first. The raven haired miko wrapped her arms around herself. People weren't meant to be permanent anyway. She should have saw that right away with him. Why had she thought he would be different? Kagome buried her tear stained face into her pillow. She was stupid...so stupid.
