AN: Hi, Guys. I'm back. You have to forgive me for taking so long. Had a few tests to write and a particular scene at the end of this chapter was giving me a hard time. Just, ugh. How do you do this?!
Anyway, hope you enjoy it.
I do not own TVD. JP does. I owe the new characters and the plot to THIS story.
The days flew by and New Years eve came around. Rebekah went to New York to celebrate and Elijah took off with Amethyst to do who knows what leaving Klaus and Caroline alone. Finally freeing them from the watchful eyes of the other occupants of the mansion, who barged in on the most inopportune moments or in Amethyst case got on their nerves with asking questions about their not-so-confusing-to-everyone-but-them relationship that they were not ready to answer.
From Christmas onwards the young couple has spent more time with each other. Caroline got to know Klaus a bit better and he finally got the privilege to hear her hopes and dreams. Their friendship strengthened while the intimacy between them only magnified itself.
You could see them exchange logging glances or cuddle on the couch. Even a few attempts for a kiss had been made. Unfortunately, every time just before their lips could touch they were interrupted, which made them frustrated. Caroline was the one who got frustrated the most. Mostly with herself than with the situation.
No matter her reasons for being here she still freaked out over every almost kiss. Yes, she was ready to give him a chance, but it was easier to say it than do it. It didn't matter her heart already decided when her head got in the way. A small part of her was feeling insecure after the whole Hayley fiasco. Even though Klaus didn't feel anything for the were-slut and she knew that with certainty, she still felt like the second choice. She knew it was ridiculous, but those teenage insecurities from her human life crept back up.
Despite Klaus's many women companions for a night non did survive after except for the she-wolf. How did she know that? One word: Rebekah. Yes, the were-girl was supposedly carrying his child but he didn't know that until later. So, why keep her alive? It didn't make sense. He got the information he needed and she became useless. There was no reason for keeping her alive. Regardless of how many times Caroline tried to find the reason, she couldn't, which only made her more insecure and on edge.
"Sweetheart, what's wrong? Shouldn't you be happy and celebrating the start of the new year?"
She turned around at the sound of his voice only to find him next to her with two champagne glasses in hand. Upon seeing them, she rolled her eyes.
"I see you are still trying to state that champagne is our thing." Klaus smiled.
"It's New Year's eve, Caroline. It's only natural to celebrate it with champagne. Although your statement makes me think you are accepting champagne as our thing." The smirk on his face was infuriating.
"Oh, don't get that smug, your majesty." Klaus narrowed his eyes and offered her the drink without saying a word.
"New Orleans never ceases to amaze me." The hybrid said as he looked at the party down on the streets. They decided to celebrate it in Klaus apartment in the french quarter rather than in the mansion.
"Do you know "Baby New Year" drops from its perch on the top of Jax Brewery instead of a ball?"
Caroline shook her head as to say no.
"We can go see it, if you want." The original offered, although he would rather stay than go into the crowd.
"It's fine. I like it here." Caroline declined as she faced Klaus almost touching noses. It is then the blond vampire realized that during their small chat the two of them got a lot closer.
"You are beautiful, love."
He said as he moved a strand of hair behind her ear. They were slowly moving closer and closer while the crowd counted down the numbers.
"10..9..8.."
He put one hand on her back while the other cupped her right cheek.
"7..6..5.."
Caroline leaned into his touch as they kept moving towards each other nuzzling their noses.
"4...3..2.."
Their lips touched as the crowd shouted "Happy New Year" and the fireworks erupted over the Mississippi.
At first the kiss was soft and gentle. Merely a light brush of the lips screaming innocence a mile away. Once they got more confident, the kiss deepened and a fire was lit up inside of them. The kiss was nothing like neither of them had ever experienced. Full of locked up passion, desire and love. It was right, and somehow, among all of the dizziness and the clinging to each other like a life line, something inside of them changed, never to be reversed. This new feeling could be dwelled upon later, because, for now, they were content to feel each-others breaths come and go with them.
*meanwhile somewhere in the USA*
"Tell me what are we supposed to do once the blue moon occurs?"
Elijah asked his companion for the night. Once Amethyst kindly explained to him the relationship of his brother to the Forbes girl and suggested to leave them be for this beautiful night, they went somewhere far away from New Orleans to a private restaurant.
"Let's focus on the now rather than the future. Less gloom and doom, more boom." The witch smiled at him.
"I rather know now than later." He answered gloomily.
"All in due time, Elijah. Be patient. Why don't we talk about Celeste or Katarina perhaps?" The witch sighed.
"You can pester my brother with your nosiness, I refuse to indulge in it." Elijah pointedly stated.
"Agh, don't be such a bore, 'Lijah." Again the original shot her a glare, refusing to participate in her childish behavior.
"Fine. Be a bore. I wish Kol was here. At least we would have some entertainment." The witch somberly stated. The fact Kol was dead didn't sit well with her. It was just unfair to lose the life of the party for a magical cure.
Puff, cure my ass, Amethyst grumbled to herself.
"If you are so against the idea of him being dead, then why don't you resurrect him? After all, you are a witch, are you not?" Elijah suggested more for his sake than the witches as he missed his little brother dearly.
"OMG. You are BRILLIANT! How have I not come up with that before?!" Amethyst exclaimed while her eyes bulged out in surprise.
"Have you anything personal that belongs to him with you?" She asked Elijah, who was shocked that the witch even considered his proposition. When he proposed to resurrect his brother, he never remotely though his wish will be granted.
"No, but Klaus does." The younger one's eyes lit up with excitement.
"Let's go. I'm sure the two lovebirds are done by now." Amethyst said as she began to walk back to the car.
AN: YESS! KOL is coming back, baby. How did you find the kissing scene? It's the first one I did, hope you liked it. Tell me your thoughts on this chapter. Maybe a few reviews and follows will give me more boost to write a new chapter faster. ;)
