Chapter Eight: The Black Brothers Fight
"Come on Sophie, we're going to be late," Regulus said as I picked up my books. Someone had split my bag open. They'll be lucky if I don't find them.
I rolled my eyes while picking up my last book, "Like I care. He is going to dock points from Slytherin anyway. Everyone always does. Even if he's from America"
"Quit complaining and walk. We are almost there," he said as we turned the corner.
I sighed before entering the classroom. Turns out we actually made it here on time. We both sat at a desk toward the front of the room since it was the only one left. Normally I sit near the back because I despised learning in most classes. Obviously I couldn't today.
The class fell silent as our professor stood up to speak. He was tall and looked pretty strong. He also had short blond hair and the average blue eyes.
"Welcome. As you already know, I am Professor Hughes. I will be teaching you how to defend yourself if you ever need to. Some of things you will be learning are nonverbal spells, the unforgivable curses, dueling, and how to defend yourself from dark creatures."
We stared at the man in awe. Never had we ever had a teacher who knew what the hell he was teaching to us.
After a short pause Hughes continues, "The first thing I will teach you is how to defend yourself from a dementor. Many of you will not be able to actually produce the spell because it is very difficult to conjure, but you will learn the theory. Now before I teach you to this spell you need to know what you are defending yourself from. Can anyone tell me what a dementor is?"
No one raised there hand. This was probably because of the fact that he was actually an intelligent human being.
With this being said, naturally I raised my hand to show off in one of the only classes I enjoy, "A dementor is known to be one of the foulest creature to inhabit the world. They feed of the happiness of anyone near them which causes depression and despair to those people around them. If one gets to you close enough they can suck out your soul. They call it the Dementor's Kiss."
The teacher nodded, "That is correct miss...?"
"Potter," I said with a sigh. The name that makes me feel like an outsider to the world.
Hughes stared at me for a moment before continuing, "As Potter said dementors are foul creatures. A Kiss from a dementor is a fate worse than death. You are living, but can't feel anything. You are like an empty-shell. One of the reasons they guard Azkaban. Now, the spell to deflect dementors is called the Patronus Charm. The incantation is Expecto Patronum..."
Class went on like this for the rest of the period. Next class we would try and learn how to produce the spell since we learned the theory today.
"Do you think you'll be able to produce a patronus?" Regulus asked me as we walked down to lunch.
I glanced at him from the corner of my eye, "No. I would never be able to produce something that takes that much happiness to conjure. I doubt any Slytherin will be able to produce one. Maybe a Gryffindor will get a blue fog or something, but not a full patronus."
Once we reached the Slytherin table I sat down between Narcissa and Regulus like always and began to pile my plate up with food. As I was about to take a bite of it I heard a loud pop from across from me. I looked up and was met with the sight of Evan Roiser colored red and gold from head and toe.I couldn't help but snicker at the sight, but once again the pop was heard again and a seventh year Slytherin matched Roiser.
I closely inspected my food and saw little purple flakes in everything. The Marauders' put a potion in our food.
"Regulus, don't!" I yelled, but too late. He took a bite of the food. A second later he was supporting the colors of Gryffindor. The only bright side was that I wasn't colored along with him.
My friend's face turned even more red with anger, "I can not believe our brothers turned half the Slytherins red and gold! Tomorrow is our first qudditch match!"
Of course he brought up quidditch, but he had a right to be angry. Our brothers were right idiots.
Before I could stop him he marched over to the Marauders who were hysterically laughing at our misfortune. I decided to run after him and stop him from doing anything rash.
"Look, it's Reggie! Finally decide to support the right team, I see. Little Sophie coming to calm him down from his temper tantrum?" Black gleefully teased as his brother glared at him with more hatred than usual.
"You have gone too far this time! I am tired of you always picking on me and pulling pranks on all of the Slytherins! Grow up! We are not five anymore, so do everyone a favor and act your own damn age! No wonder you were disowned!" Regulus shouted and then walked away hastily, leaving me and his hurt brother behind. Looks like me and James aren't the only ones who have issues.
I was too shocked to follow him. Regulus never yells at anyone. Ever. Not even when I pushed him in the Black Lake in the middle of winter.
"Did he really just say that to Sirius?" Peter stupidly asked. I glared at him.
"Great. Look what your stupid pranks did now you idiot bastards." with those words I chased after him.
