AN- Thanks once again to all of my lovely reviewers. I am happy to say that I have been updating more frequently since summer began. You should be glad that I am doing this instead of my AP U.S. History summer homework. -Laura
Chapter Twenty-Two: Leaving the Hell House
Once my unloving family left, my mother came up stairs to yell at me. This started a huge argument between us and I ended up screaming down the hall at her retreating back that she should go back to her bastard family were she belonged.
My mum then became hysterical. Turned around and pulled her wand on me. Her hand was shaking because she was so upset and her breathing was hard. I responded by pulling out my wand too. Even if I was under age for a few months I wanted to be able to defend myself I Mum shot a spell at me.
"Sophie Lynn Potter, I am bloody tired of you behavior. Vera, Joe, and Jacob were right about something. You are the rudest, most selfish little brat that I have ever met in my entire existence. You always tell everyone how terrible they are no matter how nice they may be and think of yourself as Merlin or something! Well let me tell you that you are not!" Mum shrieked at me.
"What about you, Mum? Don't you see how much you just ignore me? You act as if James is bloody God and you even treat fucking Sirius Black better than your own daughter. You always highlight everything that I have done bad and never anything good. Oh, Sophie didn't get all her O.W.L.'s. Sophie didn't get in Gryffindor. Sophie didn't become Prefect, but James got Head Boy and Quidditch Captain. What about all the damn good things that I did that apparently don't matter to you. Like getting on the Quidditch Team or being top of the class in three classes. Just because I am not like you doesn't mean that I'm diseased or something. Is that why you hate me? Because I'm different than you? That's just a dandy reason! Well, maybe I'll just do you a fucking favor and get the hell out of here! Seems that I am too damn different for you!" I yelled in my mother shocked face.
I looked over to my father once I saw her tear stained face. Dad was looking at me in sorrow. I remembered wondering why before turning to look at James and Sirius. My brother looked as if he just realized what a arrogant git he was being and Sirius looked as if her understood what I was saying. By this time I couldn't take it anymore and stormed off into my room to pack my things. I guess I wasn't going to see Adams at the Ball my family was holding next week.
"One room for the rest of the holiday please," I said to the innkeeper, Tom.
He gave me a small smile after I payed and than muttered, "Follow me to your room then, Miss Potter."
I followed Tom up the stairs to the second floor and was given a tiny room with a big window that overlooked Diagon Ally. I entered it and shut the door and threw my trunk on the floor in front of the small bed. Then walked over to the window-seat and sat down with my head resting on my knees, but was interrupted by an owl that was tapping on the window.
It was a pitch black owl that bit my hand when I retrieved the note it was bringing to me. Nasty little thing it was then flew off not even a second after I had done so. I opened the letter to find it was from Regulus.
Dear Sophie,
I hope that you are doing well this summer break because mine isn't going so well. Mother wants me to become a Death Eater sooner than I hoped. Instead of until after I finish school, it's now this summer. Can you believe it? I dread to think of what I will be forced to do. I never really wanted to join the Dark Lord, but I have no choice in the matter.
I also heard something strange from Severus Snape right before we left Hogwarts for Christmas Break. He accidentally let it slip that you wanted to join up with the You-Know-Who. Is this true? Why would you want to throw your life away for something so stupid? I know you don't have the heart to kill. Neither do I, but I can't watch you throw everything you've worked on for something like this. It is not right.
I promise that I will question you about this later, Sophie Lynn Potter. But the main reason I wrote this letter was to ask you not to go to Diagon Ally today. Something is going to happen. I heard my cousin Bellatrix talk about it. You know her. She married a Lestrange. I also remember you hexing her devil cat to Hell and back for munching on you Arithmancy home work.
Your friend,
Regulus Black
I sighed after I read this. So that bastard Snape had let it slip that I was going to join Voldemort's forces. Well, at least I don't have to tell him it myself. And what was going to happen in Diagon Ally? I was here and it wasn't safe.
Before I could think more on the situation at hand, screaming erupted from outside. I grabbed my wand and ran out the door and down the stairs to see what was going on.
"Oh, Charlie, what have I done?" Evelynn Potter cried into her husband's shoulder. She was upset after the events that took place earlier.
Charles sighed and calmly, "Just calm down, dear. I'm sure Sophie will come to her senses soon and return-"
"But she was right! Everything she said to me was true! I was a fool for not treating her better. What if she never comes back though? I'll never get to apologize to her for acting like I did before. I can't believe I just ignored her like that!" the woman exclaimed loudly and then repeated, "What have I done, Charles? What have I done?"
"Shh, you'll wake up James and Sirius. And I'm sure everything will right itself soon. It always does. Now, let's head off to bed. It's getting late-" but once again Charles Potter was interrupted. Though this time it was not by his wife, but my Mad-Eye Moody from the fireplace.
"Charles, you've got to get down to Diagon Ally. There is a Death Eater attack there and the place is getting blown up building by building. It seems like there are hundreds down there. Contact the rest of the Order of Phoenix because it looks like we'll need all the help be can get!" Moody said and then disappeared before they could respond.
Evelynn gasped and looked at her husband, "Sophie probably went to stay at the Leaky Cauldron!"
He looked at his wife with a determined look and said contact the Order, Eve. I'll go and get out daughter. Make sure James and Sirius stay here in bed!"
His wife nodded, "Go, Charlie!"
With those words the man apparated away. Charles Potter was not going to return home until her had his daughter with him.
Evelynn sighed and then muttered to herself, "At least James and Sirius don't know about this. I don't know what I'd do if they left to go after Sophie. I couldn't handle all of them out of here fighting Death Eaters..."
But little did Evelynn Potter know that the two she was so worrying about were about to leave the house to find the girl that left here in anger so much earlier today...
I hope you liked it. Let me know how it was be leaving a review. Like I said before, constructive criticism is such a lovely thing to have...
