Chapter Twenty-Four: Too Late

"James? Sirius?" Evelynn Potter called out while roaming her house. "Where are you?"

She then entered her son's room to find a letter on the bed. Mrs. Potter slowly picked up the piece of parchment and read it as quick as she could.

Dear Mum,

I hope you'll never read this, because then that will mean that we are all back home and have destroyed this. If that doesn't happen and you are reading this, that means Sirius and I followed Dad to Diagon Ally to find Sophie. Now don't freak out. Will both be fine and we are of age. That means you can't control what we do anymore.

Sirius and I overheard you and Dad talking to Mad-Eye Moody and we wanted to help. I know you say that I'm too young for this stuff, but once I'm out of school I am going to join the Order of Phoenix and become a Auror. Sirius wants to do the same, so you'll have to get used to us putting our life in danger.

I've gone to get my sister and protect the wizarding community and you won't see me until I've done so. Hopefully I'll be back safe and sound with Sophie soon.

Your son,

James

Evelynn lowered the letter and sat down on her child's bed. All she could do now was to wait for them return. If they make it out alive, that is.

I grabbed the piece of metal in my shoulder and yanked it out quickly. There was a lot of blood dripping from my shoulder, so I took off the shirt I was wearing over a tank top and put pressure on my wound.

"James, what happened?" I asked as I got to my feet by having a death grip on his arm.

He didn't answer. He was too busy looking behind me to do so. Sirius was the same way.

I heard a high pitched chuckle from behind and slowly turned to see what was freaking everyone out. As soon as I seen who it was I understood why they all reacted the way they did.

The man that caused the explosion and was the owner of the laugh was Lord Voldemort.

"Did you all stop because of me? I'm just honored," the man said with a smirk. Then he killed the man standing closest to him.

Then the fight began once again, but way more intense than before.

"We have to get out of here! Somehow the Death Eaters are getting in, but not the Aurors. Where did Dad go?" my brother yelled over the ruckus to me and Sirius.

"I don't know. Sophie, where are you going?" Black shouted as I turned to leave.

"Stay here and fight. I have to find Moody and Dad. I'll be fine, so don't come after me," I quickly explained and took off without them.

I managed to avoid everyone and was able keep the pressure on my shoulder while ran in the direction my father went. When I spotted my father, he stood next to Moody fight a whole bunch of Death Eaters.

"What are you doing here, Sophie? Where are James and Sirius at? What happened to your shoulder?" he asked frantically.

It looked like they were both loosing, so I dropped my bloody shirt and began to help them.

"No, get out of here!" my dad yelled at me.

Mad-Eye shook his mangled head, "We need all the help we can get. I saw her fighting, Charles. You taught your kid well. She'd make a fine Auror."

"Any idea how the rest of the Aurors can get here? Apparation isn't working and some how the Death Eaters are getting here and Voldemort has arrived here as well. It doesn't look like we all can last much longer. It's like a massacre here," I stated to both of them.

Moody looked at me, "The apparation should be back on soon. They also blocked the Floo Network. I got some guys working on the wards. We just have to hold them off until then. Think we'll last till then?"

I glanced at all of the masked men surrounding me. They were all laughing at us while trying to kill us all.

"I have no idea, but let's try not to dwell on that thought," I muttered.

All three of us fought our best over the next few minutes. It seemed like this night was never going to end though. And then I saw a green jet of light head toward my father.

"No, Dad! Look out!" I screeched at him, but it was already too late.

I watched the curse hit him in what felt like slow motion. I watched him drop down on his knees and then fall backwards on to his back. My father's eyes glazed over and at that moment I knew he was dead.

Then it felt like everything I had bottled up inside of me was released. All of my feelings mushed together and I felt out of control of my emotions for the first time in a while. I felt all the anger, depression, hatred, and frustration taking over me. And I finally had someone to take it out on. Adrenaline rushed through my veins as I advanced toward the Death Eaters.

I don't remember much of it, but I was taking down people left and right. Using all of these spells I learned from being in Slytherin that cause too much pain and suffering to be used. But I didn't care about hurting people any more.

Then I heard the popping of apparation. The rest of the Aurors had finally arrived.

But it was to late. My father was already dead and I blamed myself for it.

AN- So the battle is finally over and not everyone made it out alive. What do you think is next for Sophie?
