Chapter Twenty-Five: Letter to Regulus

"Sophie, we have to go. Mum is probably worried to death and we should go and see her," James insisted from my side.

I sighed. Did I really have to return home now? After all that just happened, I understood why I should see Mum, but that didn't mean that I wanted to.

Then I glanced at my brother and pushed myself away from the wall of the Leaky Cauldron. I was watching everyone clean up Diagon Ally. Most people had left this scene by going home to family or having to take a visit to St. Mungo's. I should be one on those on my way to the hospital, but since there were so many people in their I probably wouldn't get treated for a long time.

The wound on my shoulder had finally stopped bleeding, but it wasn't bandaged. That might cause an infection, although I think I'll take my chances at not going until tomorrow.

"I'm not going home, James," I calmly stated.

He looked shocked. So did Black, "What? Why not?"

"I left for a reason, brother. I don't want to come back the next day. Even if Dad just got murdered," I explained to them.

James looked upset, "Yeah, Dad just got murdered! Mum probably wants us home. Can't you just look past your differences for a week?"

I tried not to get angry at my brother an I replied, "No, James I can't. Tell her I'll be there sometime during the summer. I'll talk to her then."

"But Sophie-"

"Stop James. There is no way you are going to change her mind. Let's just go home..." Sirius trailed off. Then I heard the sound of them apparating away.

I sighed in relief. Finally, I was alone. No more people around to bother me. Then I entered the Leaky Cauldron.

Evelynn ran down the stairs after she heard the familiar crack of apparation. Her family had finally returned home, but as she reached the bottom of the stairs her joy left her.

"Where is your father and sister?" Mrs. Potter asked. Her voice cracked toward the end and knowing tears weld up in her eyes.

James looked down, "Dad didn't make it out and Sophie wouldn't come home."

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Potter," Sirius added.

James' mother fell on the couch in tears. Her husband was gone and he was never coming back. Sophie didn't want to see her and probably wasn't ever returning home.

"Sophie said she'll come home for a bit during the summer," James said to try and cheer his mother up a bit.

But the woman only sobbed harder. Her son and his friend left when she asked to be alone. It seemed like nothing good would ever happen for her.

Evelynn Potter spent the rest of the night crying for her dead husband.

"Need anything else, Tom?" I asked the barkeeper as I finished sweeping up the floor. I offered to help the man clean up since I was the only one that kept my room here. That and to take my mind off of earlier events.

The man smiled at me and shook his head, "Nope, that's all, but thanks for the help Sophie. I appreciate it."

I then ran up to my room. I had to owl Regulus and tell him what happened.

Dear Regulus,

I got your letter. Turns out that I was at the Leaky Cauldron when I read it. Your warning was a bit late. The thing you said to avoid I was in the middle of. I battled out there though. My family came to get me, but the Death Eaters put up apparation wards and cut off the Floo Network System. We were being picked off one by one.

My father died protecting me today. I saw that it was your cousin Bellatrix that did it, but I haven't told anyone that fact. I also don't plan to. I hope you don't dwell on that though because it is not your fault. You couldn't have done anything.

I ran away from home though. James tried to make me go back after earlier, but I refused to. I can't see Mum after what happened. I told them I would see her this summer for a little bit. I am also not going to my father's funeral that is probably going to be in a few days, but I might visit his grave after. It is my fault he's dead and I want to apologize to him.

I'm sorry if it seems like I am rambling on, but I have to tell some one or else I'll have nightmares. I hope this isn't too much to ask of you, but could you possibly visit Diagon Ally some time this week? I'll explain everything to you and I will answer all your questions from your last letter.

Hope your well,

Sophie

I then rolled up the letter and stuck it in my pocket. Then traveled back down over to the bar to Tom.

"Do you have an owl I could borrow by any chance?" I asked the man nicely.

He nodded and then took me into the back to show me where it was. I thanked him as he left and tied the letter to the animals leg.

"Could you take this to Regulus Black? He lives at 12 Grimmauld Place." I muttered to the owl quietly and when it flew out the window I decided it was time I went to see a healer for my arm.

AN- Well, hope you enjoyed it even though nothing really happened in the chapter and the end was a bit cruddy. I guess all of you guys can look forward to Regulus in the next chapter. Review.
