Chapter Thirty: Memories
"Mummy, I wanna go to Hogwarts too. Can't you just let me go early?" I mumbled quietly.
My mother sighed for the hundredth time that day, "No sweetie. Only James can go to Hogwarts this year. You can go next year. Now stop asking me please. It's time to get James' wand now, so why don't you wait outside? We'll only be a minute. Mr. Ollivander usually finds everyone's wand pretty quick." She then pushed me down on a creaky bench that felt like it was about to fall in and grabbed my brother's hand to pull him along with her.
I frowned as they entered the shop without me. I had no idea why Mum was so angry with me. All I wanted was to go to Hogwarts too. Then again, Mum always had a reason to be angry with me. Whether if I hadn't cleaned my room and bothered her too much with my question.
My attention was quickly diverted by a family that walking through the streets like they owned the place. A tall woman with aristocratic features and a rather handsome man that I presumed to be her husband were sneering at almost everything they saw. Their two children were walking after them with rather bored expressions on there faces.
Almost instantly I knew this family to be the Blacks. One of the most pureblood fanatic families in the whole entire Wizarding World. Personally, I think it's the inbreeding.
"I cannot even believe the amount off filthy blood-traitors that our son has to endure at that school. I can't even think about how many mudbloods there will be," Mrs. Black complained to her husband. Then she caught sight of me and sneered, "Take the Potters for example. Pure blood just gone to waste! I also heard that their son will be going to school this year."
Mr. Black nodded in agreement, "Probably going to be another bloody Gryffindor. Ugh, I just can't stand those proud bastards. They even have the nerve to call their idiocy courage. What a bunch of hooligans! Sirius, Regulus, when you get into that school, you both better get into Slytherin. I couldn't stand to have such a disgrace of a child that got put into Gryffindor!"
I glared at the couple as they passed by me, but only just caught both of their sons' apologetic looks sent my way.
"Sophie Lynn Potter, are you even listening to me?"
"Hmm?" I muttered while turning my head from the window and toward one of the two people accompanying me in my usually full compartment. Everyone else in our year is either at Hogwarts or with their other friends. I was very thankful for this.
Regulus looked at me in concern after he heaved a loud sigh at my unresponsive behavior, "Are you okay, Soph? You haven't even said a word the entire ride and we are almost back at Hogwarts."
"I'm fine, Reg. Just thinking," I said no louder than a whisper.
He nodded, but it was rather obvious that he was still watching me very closely.
Narcissa stared at me with understanding eyes. I could tell that she knew exactly what happened to me over the break. She was probably told by her family. Most likely her bitch sister that did the horrible deed.
When we arrived at Hogwarts just a few mere minutes later, so we all exited the train and headed over to the carriages. When we got there I stopped in place. There was something huge pulling them. It looked like skinny, black horses with leathery wings. I don't know how long I just stood there watching them, but it felt like forever.
"Sophie, are you coming?" Narcissa asked slowly.
My eyes finally snapped over to my room mate. Didn't she see them? I glanced over to Regulus and he also looked confused. Why was I the only person to see these beasts?
Then realization dawned upon me.
The skeletal animals I was looking at were Thestrals. Beasts that only a person who had witnessed death were able to see. They were considered dangerous by the Ministry, but were actually rather gentle.
Regulus stepped toward me and put a hand on my arm, "Are you sure that you are okay? You've been staring at nothing for a bit now. Do you need us to take you to Pomfrey or something?"
I shook the thoughts of my newly acquired ability to see Thestrals and quickly answered them, "I'm fine. Let's just get back to the Common Room, okay?"
The short trip up and through the castle was awkwardly silent. Like everything else with me involved lately. When we finally did get there, Narcissa almost ran to our dorm to escape it all. As I was about to follow her, Regulus pulled me back.
"Have you been doing okay since... Christmas?" my friend asked me with his voice laced with concern.
I attempted to smile, which failed majorly, before answering, "It's been better, but I think I'll get over it eventually. Now quit worrying about me. Meet me in the Room of Requirement tomorrow after lunch?"
He nodded and and with one last look at me, he hurried off to the Boys' Dormitory staircase. I followed his example, but instead up to the Girls' Dormitories. I entered my room. Once my head hit the pillow, I drifted off to sleep.
"Daddy!" a little Sophie cried while running through the house screaming her tiny head off. "Daddy, James pushed me and made me fall!"
Charles Potter picked his sever-year-old daughter up and put her on his lap. He hugged his sobbing child as he calmly asked her a question in concern, "Are you okay? Did you get hurt when you fell down?"
Sophie wiped a few tears away from her eyes while she answered, "Yes, I got a big cut on my arm. See, Daddy?"
The girl's father inspected the cut carefully. The huge cut was no bigger than an inch and had already stopped bleeding. Charles smiled softly at his daughter's overreaction.
"It'll be okay, sweetie. Want Daddy to make it all better for you?" the man said quietly into his daughter's small ear.
"Will you, Daddy? That would be wonderful! You can make it all better and then go punish James, right? He was being mean to me! You won't let him get away with hurting your little girl, will you?" Sophie then looked at him with her big green-blue eyes and an innocent expression on her face.
It was then Charles realized that his angel was quite the little charmer. He could never say no to that look. "Whatever you say, darling. Now let me see that cut. Daddy is going to make it all better now..."
