Chapter Thirty-Four: Saviors

Remus Lupin is about to kill me... I still can't believe that this is happening to me. Why does everything always happen to me out of all the people in the world? Then again, I shouldn't be complaining. Worse things could have happened to me.

But then again, I could just become a werewolf like Remus. A fate worse than death. Being out of control every at least once a day each month. Going through terrible pains to transform into a bloody canine. It'd be like my own personal hell on earth. I do not envy Lupin at all.

Just as the werewolf was about to finish me off, I heard the sound of another animal coming toward us. It startled the wolf as the animal rammed him off of me. Let me tell you, I was thankful for it, but it hurt like hell.

The animal that saved my life was a stag. This was very odd because any intelligent animal would just let the wolf tear me into pieces. There was something strange about this animal, and there is no doubt that I am going to find out what it is.

I watched the animals fight with each other. It seemed that the stag was trying to push the wolf away from me and toward the woods, although he was losing to the beast. Just as I thought the animals were about to kill each other, a gigantic black dog jumped into the fray.

By now I was trying to stand up. It wasn't working that well. I fell back to the ground and moaned in pain. For a split second, I thought that the animals both glanced at me, but I must have been crazy. My vision was beginning to blur and I felt woozy. The arm that was supporting my weight started to shake and then I hit the ground rather hard.

I released a huge sigh of relief when I heard foot steps fade away toward the forest. The beast was gone and I was finally safe.

"Sophie!" I heard a extremely worried voice shout while shaking my shoulder frantically.

"Is she okay?" another deep voice said to the other.

I heard the first man hesitate before he answered, "I have no idea. Sophie, can you hear me?"

Slowly I willed my eyes to open. I groggily looked at my saviors to see none other than my brother and his best friend, Sirius.

"Dammit," I muttered under my breath, "Please tell me that I am dreaming?"

Both James and Sirius exchanged worried glances. They had no idea how to explain what was going on earlier.

"Let's just get you to the hospital wing first. Then we'll get down to the explanations." James muttered awkwardly.

"So let me get this straight. You, Sirius, and Peter are all illegal animagus so that the three of you could help Lupin with his... furry little problem?" I slowly stated to my brother.

Last night he and Sirius had brought me up to the school, but I had pasted out before we all made it here. Right now my brother was explaining to me why the hell I was almost scratched to death by their best friend. It didn't go that well.

"Yes," James said, "For about the thousandth time, Sirius, Peter, and I are all animagus. I am the stag, Sirius is the dog, and Peter is a rat. We saved your bloody life. Can you just get over it now?"

I glared at my idiotic brother, "Yeah, I'm sorry. I'll get totally forget the fact that I was almost killed last night and that I just found out that you and your band of neanderthals are breaking about twenty school rules and these things called laws."

He gave an exasperated sigh, "Sophie, you know that I didn't mean it like that."

"Did you really, James? Sometime I don't think of anyone when you speak," I mumbled quietly while laying back down in bed.

After a long pause my brother began to speak once more, "You won't tell mum, will you? It'll be hard enough with Remus hating himself about what he did."

I rolled my eyes, "Like I'm going to even speak to the woman. I told Pomfrey not to even tell her what happened to me. She'll never know." Then I got a bit more serious, "And Lupin is angry about what he did? This isn't his fault at all."

"I know. Moony thinks that if he was never here at this school, then he would have never attacked you. Stupid, isn't it?" my brother said sadly.

I sighed and closed my eyes out of exhaustion, "We'll continue this conversation later, okay? I am bloody dead beat."

"Sure thing, Soph. I'll be back tomorrow," James said as he stood up to leave me to sleep.

"Oh, and James?" I called to him as he was about to exit.

He turned to look at me with his glasses sliding down his nose, "Hmm?"

"Thanks. You know, for everything."

James just gave me his sloppy smile, one that I haven't seen in years, and walked out of the hospital wing.

AN- So how was it? As you can see, James and Sophie are slowly getting along a bit more. I guess saving someone's life can do that to a person. Hope you all review!
