Chapter Forty-One: Chit-Chat with a Black

"Merlin, stop kicking Sophie. Who knew a little girl would be so strong?" the deep voice, that belonged to the person who pulled me in here, muttered to me.

I stopped and pulled my arms out of his grasp, "Sirius Black, what the hell is this for? I'm going to miss History of Magic!"

He scoffed at me and sat down in an empty desk, "Like you're going to miss anything with Binns talking everyone to sleep. Why do you even take that class?"

"Because I, unlike you and my brother, am actually going out for a career that is not an Auror. To become a Curse-Breaker you have to take a lot of classes that actually make you learn. Ancient Runes, Arithmancy, Transfiguration, Potions, Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, and History of Magic are required-" I explained before I was rudely interrupted.

"Come on Potter, if I wanted to hear this lecture I would talk to Remus," Sirius chimed while leaning back in his chair.

I rolled my eyes in annoyance, "Why am I here then, Black?"

His smile slipped off his face and his expression turned serious, "I told you I had to talk to you, Sophie. I take it that you know what Regulus plans to do?"

"Yes," I mumbled quietly as I leaned against the wall with my arms crosses, "Your brother has been expected to join the Death Eaters since you ran away, Sirius, though I expect that you had figured that part out. Mummy Dearest has been focused on Reg since you were out of the picture. Did you even realize what would happen to your brother if you left? I don't think that you thought through your little plan."

Sirius looked away from my gaze and rubbed his head, "I know. I messed up that day, but I left and then I couldn't come back. It's my fault that this happened, Sophie, and I want to help although I have no bloody idea how to do so. I was hoping that you would. No one knows him better than you. A fact I hate to admit."

Sighing, I pushed off from the wall and leaned against the desk across from him. Then I began to speak to him in a quiet voice, "I think that it would be best if you left him alone for right now and watch him from a distance. Nothing angers him more than to see you all happy and carefree. Personally, I think it is because he knows that he will never have the courage to do what you did. Leave his family and never look back. Every time he sees you, all he can think about is how you accomplished all the things he wanted to do, but never could. He envies you like mad, but you are to much of a twit to see it. You are blinded by how you think he wants this, but Regulus doesn't, Sirius. Eventually you finally see it, and only then will you realized how much of a fool you have been."

I can clearly see that Sirius looked surprised at what I had said to him, "When did you get so intelligent, Potter? You always were an ignorant brat to me."

"Well, I never was as ignorant as anyone thought, was I? Being in Slytherin doesn't mean that you're destined to be evil. I don't know why people think that. I guess if everyone said that you were evil and are going to join Voldemort, then some of the people that are told this might just believe in it. No one realized the harm that it causes when people exclude Slytherin House and it will come to bite everyone in the ass later on in the future." I rambled on to the eldest Black brother.

Sirius just rolled his eyes at my antics and muttered a response, "Sure, Sophie."

"One day, Sirius Black, you are going to realize I'm right about everything. That is a day that I am looking forward to." I said while going to leave. "Now I have a class to get to."

"Wait!" Sirius shouts.

I turn to look at him, my hand on the doorknob, "What is it you want?"

"You are saying that I just leave him alone? I can't do that when I know what he's going to become. Just stand there and let him go off to the dark side. What if James was in his place, Sophie? What would you do?" Sirius asked me. He was leaning forward on the desk with his hands clenching the wood too tight.

"What would I do?" I repeated. "I would do what he wanted me to do. Watch him from afar and make sure he doesn't do anything to stupid until he realizes he chose the wrong path. That is the right thing to do, even if it's hard to see happen. Interfering would only make things worse than they already are. Trust me for once, will you?"

Black sighed and put his head in his hands, "You're right once again."

I gave him a slight smile before opening the door to leave the empty classroom for good.

"Oh, and Sophie?" the boy asked and successfully stopping me again.

"Merlin, Sirius, what?" I exclaimed a bit too loudly when I turned around.

He smirked at me and then gave me a sad smile, "I'm sorry."

I was confused. Why the hell was he sorry? "For what exactly?"

"For not being there for my brother and causing you to have to take over that position," he mumbled quietly.

A smile covered my face once again, "Not to worry, Sirius. It's a job that I am happy to do."
