AN: Part two of the interlude is here just as I promised. I think I nearly cried at the end. Well any way I'll see you guys tomorrow for President's day. I always knew federal holidays were good for something. Enjoy and feel free to skip the author notes below or the whole chapter if you feel like it (this is for those who've already read this far). Just so you know, the tentative end for this fic is in ten weeks. I'm getting pumped, I hope you are too. Enjoy.
AN: So I'm back and finally updating and hopefully I won't take too long on what is hopefully the final part for the interlude so we can get on with the real storyline, cross your fingers. Anyway, I made a promise to get this out before Thanksgiving, obviously that didn't happen but a month late isn't that bad plus this is like a Christmas present so happy holidays. So hopefully that last part of this interlude will be out in May. Well, this is probably the shortest author's note I've ever done, but that's most likely due to the fact that my head is killing me. I've really got to stop staying up until 5 in the morning, bad for the health.
P.S If I owned Dragonball Z then I'd probably have no reason to write fanfiction and then you'd all lose out on my talents.
P.P.S. If you thought the closet scene was hot, then you'll probably like this chapter. I think I out did myself :)
It Was Meant to Be
Interlude-part two-What have I done?
The door slammed with a bang as Videl strode down the corridor, agitated. With each step she took, she sent off a malevolent energy causing each guard, spread out along the corridor, to cringe, a shake to their stance as her agitation permeated the air around her, drenching it in nervous energy.
"You'd think that getting shot would be enough to get a girl out of a pointless punishment," she mumbled completely unaware of the effect she was having on the people around her. "I mean two weeks really, like I don't have anything better to do than hang around security for two hours every day." With a sharp turn Videl made it to a familiar door. She paused at the entrance for a moment unable to make up her mind on her current course of action. She'd be training with Son in roughly three hours; did she really want to tire herself out now?
With a shake of her head Videl grabbed the handle and threw the door open, scaring the shit out of the few occupants of the room.
'Great, willing victims, I mean participants', she thought with a sinister grin on her lips. A shiver ran down the few martial arts students practicing in the room as they subconsciously backed away from the agitated young woman in front of them.
Cracking her knuckles Videl took a quick step forward. "Okay guys let's see what progress you've made this week."
A nervous sweat broke out over the six students as they slowly dropped what they were doing and reluctantly approached her. They circled around her, not even bothering to ask if she wanted to take them on one at a time. They'd never stand a chance if it was just a one on one fight. Each took a calming breathe, falling into a ready stance before lunging forward only to be stopped by the presence that entered the room, dominating and invading the small area.
Olivia didn't look happy, in fact she looked down right pissed. 'Oh fuck, what did I do now?' Videl wondered as she dropped out of her stance and turned to face the small, stern woman in front of her. Completely missing the blatant looks of relief from the other martial arts students in the room, one going so far as to move a pointed finger down across his heart then horizontally across the same space, forming a cross over his heart as he muttered a quick 'thank kami-sama' for his good fortune.
"Is there…" Videl began, but was quickly cut off before she could properly form the question with a short look and a sharp tongue from the woman across the room.
"I believe you've forgotten to do something today," Olivia stated, disappointment clear in her voice as she leveled a steady gaze on to the young woman in front of her.
"I don't…" but again, Videl was interrupted in the middle of her statement.
"You were to start your punishment today. If I was unclear then I have rectified the situation and you will report to Mister Nara's office immediately," Olivia ordered, before she again cut off the impeding protest about to fall from Videl's lips. "That is unless you'd like to tack on another two weeks to both your time with security and the kitchens?"
Videl knew when she'd lost so she didn't bother to protest. Instead she just promptly spun on her heels and left, swiftly heading down the hallway in search of an equally familiar door. There had been a time when the security building located just outside the Satan mansion had been her favorite place to visit. She'd loved following the guards around on their rounds and tailing Nara-san as he swept the premises. It had been her first taste of law enforcement. The real reason she'd accepted the Satan City's Police Chief's request to help the local force.
And it wasn't as if she hated working with security. The only reason she hadn't shown up today was because she'd needed to clear her head. A task that was all but impossible if she had to stand around security for two hours. She wouldn't be able to get Son out of her head just standing there. Hell, she couldn't stop thinking about her now.
'Why'd I have to kiss her?' she thought as she crossed the short distance from the main building to the security building. But as her legs paced the distance she couldn't regret the action. Not that kiss as she remembered it and there was very little about that experience that she'd ever be able to forget. No, the problem wasn't that she'd spent the better half of her free period making out with Son. What really bothered her was the ever present knowledge that she wanted to do it again, and again, and again. Her desire for Son seemingly insatiable.
All she could think about were those too few minutes in that supply closet, Son's taste, her smell, and the way she felt as she'd pressed her against the wall, hard. Their bodies so close she could feel Son's erotic heartbeat, the cadence pumping out a tempo just as chaotic as her own. Her warmth seeping through the contact and penetrating her skin and reaching her bones. Heating her to her very core. Driving her even more insane then the dreams that plagued her at night. And it wasn't just the fact that she wanted to do it again either. In truth, she wouldn't really have a problem doing it again if she'd thought that it would work in getting the urge out of her system, but at the moment she couldn't be sure if she'd ever have enough of Son. She wasn't sure if her desire for Son would ever be satisfied, and that fact scared the crap out of her.
Gara was sitting at his desk when she entered his office and unlike normal, he wasn't lazing about in his chair tossing paper balls into his basketball hooped trashcan. Instead he was studiously at work, typing away at his keyboard, and to her annoyance, completely ignoring her presences.
Videl felt her eye twitch. "Gara-san, I wasn't aware you knew the meaning of the word productive let alone how to emulate it," she sneered, unhappy at being ignored.
Gara glanced up for a second before he looked back at the screen not making the mistake of looking her in the eyes. He'd known her too long to make that kind of rookie mistake. "I thought you were supposed to be here earlier," he dead-paned, before finishing whatever was on his screen. "What are you doing here now Videl? I don't have anything for you to do," he said as he turned away from his computer, stretching his arms over his head and interlocking his fingers.
"I couldn't get out of it," Videl mumbled, crossing her arms in the process.
"Mistress Olivia hounding you?" he asked as he leaned back in his chair.
"Hai," Videl said with a sigh, turning her back to the man who was like a mentor to her, missing the raise in his right eye-brow.
"Rough week kid," he asked as he reached for a piece of paper lying on his desk. Videl could hear the familiar rustle of paper as he balled it up. Hearing the ball sail in the air, she was surprised that it was headed her way instead of towards his trashcan. Catching it in the air she turned around her eyes narrowed into a hard glare, death a very real possible outcome for the fool in front of her. He cut her off before she could open her mouth. "Why don't you give it a toss? I promise you'll feel better," Gara said fearlessly looking her right in the eyes without a moment of hesitation. If she could say one thing about Gara it was that at the very least he could certainly pick his battles.
She stared at the wad of paper before giving it a toss, a small smile threatening to form on her face as the ball sailed through the hoop neatly finding its way to the bottom of the metal bin.
"Take a seat and tell me about your week?" he asked pointing a hand at the seat in front of him its black leather seat and metal backing a familiar sight.
Videl shook from her small moment of peace and turned her head away again. "It really wasn't that tough," she lied and she could see the weight of the lie in the air. "At least nothing I can't handle," she amended.
Gara leveled a steady, searching gaze on her, the weight of his stare burning holes into her head the sting of which she could feel even though she wasn't looking at him. Finally he sighed and shifted back farther in his chair, relaxing his gaze. "If you insist," he said plainly, the underlying ring of defeat thick in his voice. "Should I put you to work? I've got a fairly huge project on the sidelines."
"I thought you said you didn't have anything for me to do," she accused. Her arms cross as she took in the familiar office, the tan walls covered in plaques and degrees and metals and pictures and other little knick-knacks that just screamed Gara-san with their cluttered placement
"I lied," he stated simply, remaining a familiar calm, cool and collected persona that she'd known for a good portion of her life.
Videl huffed at the familiar tone, glad to be back on familiar ground. Taking a seat, she took a moment to relax, resting her feet on Gara's desk. "Anyway, I can help with your little project tomorrow. I have other plans for today so I'm not going to start something big now," Videl reclined in her chair and looked at the ceiling, still curious on how they managed to create the lovely uneven cave-like markings on the white surface. 'I mean really, it's like they stuck a brush in some paint and poked the ceiling,' her mind wandered off as she slowly found herself in a state of calm she hadn't felt in what seemed like weeks.
"Let me guess, even though you're not going to do any work you want me to tell Mistress Olivia that she can take a day off your punishment," he deadpanned turning back to his computer and successfully bring her back from her wandering thoughts.
"Aren't you a mind reader," Videl said now completely relaxed.
"Fine, but you better actually show up to work tomorrow or I might have to suggest an extension to your punishment," Gara warned as he settled his hands above his keyboard again allowing his fingers to fly across the surface already fast at work, the clicking of keys somehow soothing in its rhythmic pattern.
"I promise I'll be here," she compromised giving him a quick reassuring glance. "Why are you working anyway? I thought you did everything in your power to avoid actually lifting your fingers on the job."
"Firstly, I'm hurt you think so little of me," he began, momentarily putting a hand over his heart, a faux hurt expression painted on his face. "Secondly, I seem to have a significantly larger load of work to do since 'a certain someone' shaved ten years off Mistress Olivia's lifespan."
"Fine, fine, you win," Videl conceded, not willing to talk about the injury just yet. She hated admitting her vulnerability.
"Anyway, what could you possibly have to do that's more important than helping little ol' me out here in security?" Gara asked genuinely curious about her plans.
"Nothing too exciting, I promise," she evaded the question, the familiarity of the lie allowing it to roll off her tongue with ease. Practice makes perfect they say.
"That's nothing important as in you should be helping me out instead of wasting your time on completely useless endeavors or nothing important as in this is your way of not hurting my fragile emotions by telling me you have a better security officer to hang out with who doesn't bore the snot out of you," he asked unwilling to let her drop this subject but also not willing to take himself completely seriously. It's not like he ever did. She'd learned a long time ago that it was just the way he was and not even Olivia could change him.
"Look it's not that I don't want to be here, and I most certainly haven't wasted my time looking for an equally crazy security officer to hang out with, but I already made a deal with Son to train with her. What type of person would I be if I just cancelled on her after I made a promise," Videl defended, not wanting to have her sentence extended, and knowing it would pull at his sense of honor and integrity.
"Okay, you've successfully gotten me to feel guilty. I'm not going to say anything to Mistress Olivia now," Gara sighed. After a breath he continued. "Son," he said, sounding the name out on his tongue. "Why does that sound familiar?"
"You're probably thinking about Son Goku, former world champ. That's her father," she answered for him, relaxing back into the chair.
"Well yeah, but that's not it," Gara paused what he was doing, his fingers motionless above his keyboard. "Ah ha," he exclaimed, raising a finger up as he stabbed at the air. "That's the girl that Mistress Olivia was talking about. I don't think I've ever seen her come closer to raving about someone."
Videl gave him a pointed look after quickly lowering her feet back to the ground, asking him to elaborate.
"For a while she couldn't stop mentioning the polite girl that made sure you got home safe and carried you up to your room, and then it was that polite girl that came to visit you constantly during your time in and out of the hospital. Don't get me wrong, Mistress Olivia never gushes but every conversation I had with her she always found a way to mention your friend Son, Gohanna was her first name, right?"
All Videl could do was give a short nod, stunned at this new information. She was surprised to feel mild satisfaction, not sure why she was feeling it and unwilling to delve any deeper into her inner thoughts.
"Well, now I'm kind of curious of the girl Mistress Olivia thinks so highly of, tell me about her Videl."
Videl started, surprised by the request, unsure of where to start. 'Kami-sama, I'm uncertain about a lot of things concerning that girl,' she thought before a sigh escaped her lips. "Where should I start," the words escaped her mouth before she could control herself, breathless as they floated past her lips.
"Just start with what you think of her," Gara replied softly, the change in his demeanor going unnoticed by the young woman in front of him.
"Well, to start off she's the biggest nerd I've ever met," and a smile unwillingly crept onto her face. "Taller than papa, but when you look at her all you can think to compare her to is a helpless damsel in distress. Long dark hair, normally up and out of her face, incredibly tan skin all seemingly delicate, but boy could that be farther from the truth. All I can say is that girl can kick some ass. I've never seen anyone fight quite like her before and don't get me started on how much she can eat. I swear she could eat enough food to feed an army." Gara gave her a skeptical look. "It true, you'll just have to wait until you meet her. Anyway I haven't figured out if she has the patience of a saint or if she's just that naïve with some of the things she says," she added with a shake of her head. "But her heart's in the right place one hundred percent of the time."
"Sounds like a character," he said calmly a spark in his eyes.
"You have no idea," Videl breathed out, "and incredibly frustrating sometimes too."
"Oh, care to elaborate," he asked a smile threatening to spread out across his face.
"It's just sometimes she's too naïve for her own good, then others she's the most overbearing dominating person you'll meet."
"Not sure I get why she's so frustrating, but maybe it's a girl thing," he said and it was pretty clear he didn't think that was the sole reason, but he was giving her an out. She took it without hesitation.
"Maybe you're just too simple to get it," Videl retorted. "You and Son would get along just fine," she continued letting Gara know that it wasn't a compliment by her tone of voice, layer upon layer of sarcasm coated thick like honey, simply lovely.
"Look kid, if you're going to be mean to me, you can take that attitude elsewhere," he declared, settling his right hand over his heart before he turned back to his computer screen. "I don't need a useless kid hanging around here just to mock me. I've got useless friends and colleagues to do that for me," he deadpanned, eyes blank as he stared at Videl before snickering and turning back to work.
"Whatever," she replied, already up and heading for the door, a smile threatening to breakout across her lips.
"Try to stay out of trouble Videl," Gara added just before she crossed the threshold, catching her before she had a chance to get away.
"I'll try my best, but you know me. Trouble just seems to find me," she shot back before making her way to her room. She needed to get ready to go to Son's, mentally and physically.
…
Gohanna paced across the rich black carpet of her room at the CC compound.
Today was the day where she would insist that Videl take up sparring with her in the mornings. It didn't have to be every morning, but she really thought Videl would benefit from regular sparring sessions against a real challenge. Granted sparring with Videl would give Gohanna another excuse to spend more time with her and she'd get to watch her fight up close and personal, a complete turn on in and of itself. And thinking about it, the last time she attempted to broach the topic she'd found herself in a heated make out session with Videl, her back against the wall of a supply closet as she let Videl have her way with her. A blush rose on her face as she remembered that particular detail.
'I don't see a downside to this conversation,' Gohanna blushed with a perverted giggle. 'Except for that stare,' she shivered at the memory. 'I'm not so sure I want to be on the receiving end of that stare again. And I thought that second year had it bad.' Taking another pass of her room, Gohanna turned back to the task at hand. Videl would be over within the hour and she still didn't have a clue for what the lesson should be. 'Definitely work with ki manipulation, but after that I'm not quite sure,' she pondered as she paused in front of her vanity mirror, the light reflected off the surface.
Her eyes glanced across the glass surface pausing at a gi half hanging out of her closet haphazardly. She'd been in a rush earlier in the day, barely having enough time to grab a change of clothes let alone fix the slightly disorganized space. Walking over to bring back order to her closet, a partially formed thought began to take shape in her mind. It wasn't until she'd righted the misplaced clothing that it came to her. 'Ah-ha, the gravity chamber,' she thought as she let her hand slip from the fabric of her gi, the warm cotton cloth a temporary reminder of another time when frantic hands had slid across fabric. Attempting the move on from the dip in her thoughts, Gohanna ignored the blush that had claimed what felt like permanent residence on her face and faced away from her closet. At least it made sense that her own training gear would remind her of the very place she spent an excessive amount of her free time in, especially during the summer months. She just wished that every little action and thought didn't reminded her of that all too short time in a supply closet as well.
Spinning on her heels, Gohanna turned towards her desk, top drawer left side, and pulled out a familiar capsule, the spare gravity chamber. 'We can use the gravity chamber to work on full body resistance. Right now all Videl really needs is an increase in overall power. Her form is perfect,' she paused as her mind wander again, traveling south faster than her little brother could consume a plate of food. Undeniably there was just something intoxicating about the way Videl moved. The fluidity of each twist and turn, every move only hinting at her underlying flexibility, a flexibility that let Gohanna's mind wander to other places it could be useful. A blush heated her face as she shook away her less than wholesome thoughts and fantasies before she plummeted off the edge of acceptable. Gohanna continued on with her planning.
'I'll use the gravity chamber to work Videl so hard she'll have trouble standing on her own two feet,' she paused as her blush seemed to turn her whole face red. 'Now this is just getting annoying,' she thought as again her mind hit the gutter, just as fast if not faster than it had the last time her thoughts had wandered. 'Definitely not what I meant by that comment.' Making short work of the distance between the door and her current position, Gohanna quickly exited her room. She still had about an hour to kill before Videl was scheduled to arrive so she considered her options. 'I could get a little training in myself,' she considered as her long legs quickly covered the distance of each long corridor. 'Or I could hang out with Bulma and tinker with our current project.' Taking a sharp right, down another hallway, she made her way in the general direction of both of her choices. 'On one hand, training now will mean that I'll be a sweaty mess when Videl gets here, but then again I'll hopefully be able to exert enough pent up energy that I won't get so flustered around Videl. Or I can relax and hang out with Bulma,' she thought as she finally made up her mind. She didn't need any more stimulation right now her mind was already doing a great job with that so tinkering it would be.
Bulma was bent over her desk, fiddling with some gadget that normally would have captured Gohanna's interest. Its brilliant color and angle combination enough to make anyone curious to its true purpose. Normally her heart would pound with a familiar cadence, excited at the newness and the prospect of working on something just as unique and wonderful. Today, though her heart was pounding, it beat to a different cadence, erratic and unfamiliar and unresponsive to her attempts to calm it down.
Gohanna settled herself at the work station directly across from Bulma, determined to fake her way through interest and excitement, unwilling to let her mounting distress leak out and alert the ever sharp, ever inquisitive Bulma Briefs.
"What's up kiddo?" Bulma asked looking away from her work and setting down her tools.
'Damn,' she thought with a sigh. 'Couldn't even fake it for ten minutes.' Gohanna looked up from the schematics lying out in front of her. "Nothing, really," she tried to play it off, still hopeful that she could avoid the conversation altogether.
"Don't 'nothing' me. I've known you long enough to know when something's wrong or bothering you. You've got to give me some credit kiddo," she replied, the heat in her eyes telling Gohanna that there was no way she was getting out of telling her something.
"Ah, training," she searched for a reasonable lie. "I'm just not sure about what to do with Videl." Gohanna gave herself a little pat on the back. Not only was that not a complete lie, she also managed to squeak it out without giving away her little falsehood.
Bulma gave her the eye, a raised eye-brow and skeptical stare before she gave her input. "Just do what Vegeta does, train in the spare gravity chamber. That should fill up your entire day I know it fills his up," Gohanna shifted in her seat, a little uncomfortable with that pointed statement soaked with resentment.
"Hai, that's an uh good idea. Not sure, uh why ah why I didn't yea think of that," Gohanna stuttered out trying her hardest to tell a complete lie. It didn't really work.
"You know kiddo, I'm not sure why you're beating around the bush," Bulma sighed as she turned in her chair, getting a little more comfortable in her seat for what Gohanna could only guess was for the impending conversation to come.
'Why oh why did I have to choose tinkering?' she thought to herself as she sunk into her chair, resigned to her fate of ever embarrassing lectures while staying at the Briefs' residence. "I haven't the slightest idea of what you're talking about," she tried to defend, at least that wasn't a complete lie because what she thought Bulma was about to talk about could only be the topic of her latest nightmare. One could hope and pray, couldn't they?
"Don't give me that BS," she replied apparently tired of talking circles around the real problem. "You know damn well Vegeta tells me everything," she paused letting her words sink in. "Absolutely everything. There isn't a single thing that that man does or knows that I don't also know about."
A pause filled the air, heavy as Gohanna attempted to gather her wits. 'This can't be happening to me,' she thought frantically. It was just too much for her to take.
"Oh, that," and she couldn't help that the words just spilled from her mouth like liquid sadness, the sound reminiscent of the tone one would use if their puppy was kicked right in front of them.
"Look kiddo, it's okay. We don't get a say in who we fall in love with Dende knows if that were true I'd be married to Yamcha and not the moodiest, foulest, most arrogant man alive. No one's going to care who you love, all any of us will care about is how happy she makes you feel," she stated, her gaze burning a hole straight through to her soul.
"I wish it was that easy," Gohanna caved, shoulders slumped and head tiled downwards. What use was there in trying to hide something that was already out in the open anyway?
"Hanna-chan, nothing worth the time and effort was ever easy," she consoled trying to lift up the spirits of the teenager in front of her.
"Well, you don't know Videl. She's, she's ahhh," Gohanna threw her arms into the air in frustration. "She's completely and utterly frustrating and difficult and stubborn and arrogant and reckless and thoughtful and amazing and I never completely clear my head because she's always there lurking around every corner of my thoughts and starring in every single one of my dreams and driving me absolutely crazy." Gohanna paused to breath, confused by the outpour of words she didn't know she'd been keeping bottled up all this time.
"Trust me Hanna-chan I'm very familiar with that particular emotion. There was a time when Vegeta was the most infuriating man in the universe and I still couldn't get enough of him. Heck, he's still the most infuriating man alive, but I couldn't see myself without him. However you're right, I don't know Videl, but something tells me that if she doesn't feel the exact same way then she's feeling something damn near close to what you're feeling and you're probably driving her crazy too. It's just the way you Saiyans work. If it wasn't then there's no way in HFIL that Vegeta and I fit together like we do," she related, leveling an understanding stare onto her.
"Okay, what happened after the first time Vegeta kissed you?" she asked unwilling to completely confide in Bulma just yet. Hypothetical questions were always a safe distraction especially if you didn't use the word 'hypothetically' in it.
"Well," she paused as a blush began to form on her face. "I'm not sure you want to know the details. I'm not sure you'll even have to worry about that just take it slow okay."
"Yea, about that…" Gohanna trailed off, unsure how to describe the desperateness and the heat that kiss, those kisses had had in them.
"Don't tell me you guys have already…" it didn't look like she was going to be able to finish that sentence, so Gohanna attempted to spare her from the embarrassment. A grown woman really shouldn't be that flustered anyway.
"No, not exactly," Gohanna said, averting her gaze.
"What do you mean, not exactly," her eyes were almost wild. It most certainly didn't look like Bulma was going to be able to handle this conversation.
"It…" she paused hesitant. "Look I didn't do anything, not really. I'm just walking behind her trying to get her to listen to my ideas and the next thing I know I'm back against the wall about to get my head chewed off and instead of getting my head ripped off I've got a tongue stuck down my throat and I'm being thrown into a supply closet. I don't really want to go into detail about the supply closet. I'll just leave you with the knowledge that if the bell hadn't rung. Well, I wasn't going to stop her."
"Well there you go, I really don't see the problem here," Bulma said, blushing a light pink as she studiously looked everywhere but at Gohanna. "You've got your girl and all is right in the world."
"But that's the problem, all is not well," Gohanna said, letting her hands run through her hair. "Videl wouldn't so much as look at me for a day, then when she did look at me she wouldn't talk to me for just as long and now I have no idea what's happening or what she's thinking or what I'm supposed to do or how I'm supposed to act or anything really. I just don't know what I'm supposed to do now and it's worse than before because now I know what it tastes like and feels like and smells like and now I really can't stop thinking about her and I don't know if I have the self-control to make it through this training session and…"
"Hold up, just slow down kiddo, you're going to give yourself a heart-attack if you don't calm down," Bulma interrupted. "Don't worry too much about the avoidance thing, it's just a phase. Trust me. She'll grow out of it. Vegeta did the same thing almost, stayed in his gravity chamber for days and completely ignored me for an entire week. So trust me. She'll come around soon."
"I hope you're right Bulma," she said with a sigh, before sitting up straighter in her chair. "But what am I supposed to do in the meantime."
"Have your training session and just keep it simple, then maybe end with a tour of the complex that should give you a chance to cool down and relax," she advised, picking up her tools.
"Okay, thanks, maybe I will," Gohanna replied before getting up, but before she could head out the door she paused, she currently had a gravity room to prep but something was still bothering her.
"What's the problem kiddo? I thought we had a working plan for today," Bulma asked as she looked back up and noticed the stationary girl in front of her.
"It's just I…" but she couldn't seem to find the right words.
"Hey, Hanna-chan, you can tell me anything. I'm here for you kiddo," Bulma said, her voice taking on a softer tone as she put her tools completely down and got up from her stool, circling the workbench as she came up to Gohanna and placed her arms around the girl, pulling her in for a tight hug.
"Thanks Bulma, it just that's not even the worst of it," she sighed as she pulled away from the hug, her hands finding their way to her hair to tangle in her black locks. "I can't go two seconds without thinking about her. She literally haunts my every thought to the point where I can barely concentrate on anything at one time. I just don't know what I'm supposed to do about it."
"I…" Gohanna's eyes narrowed when Bulma failed to reply. With a deep breath, she watched as Bulma tried again. "I honestly have no idea what's happening there," she finally relented. "When it came to our relationship, I was just able to ignore the fact that he wasn't talking to me by focusing on something else. It didn't work every time but it worked enough for me to stop thinking about him long enough to concentrate on work and other details of life," she placed a comforting hand on Gohanna's arm, rubbing it up and down as she thought of all she could do to help the girl in front of her.
"But what am I supposed to do?" the pleading in her voice almost broke her heart.
"How about I ask Vegeta about it? Maybe it a Saiyan thing, and once we know it's a Saiyan thing we can work from there on what you can do to at least try to concentrate on life. Dende knows your mother would kill me if your grades slip and she knew I had known about the problem."
"Thanks Bulma," Gohanna said as she finally took those last couple of steps separating her from the door. She could work with a plan even if there wasn't currently a solution. 'At least this is something,' she thought to herself as she walked out of the room, already attempting to regain her composer so she could finish her training prep. This was likely to be a long day.
…
'So this is a gravity chamber,' Videl thought as she entered the circular building. 'I'm not sure what I expected but this certainly isn't it,' she continued her thoughts as she turned around, eyes touching every surface of the relatively small room. 'There are no weight machines or punching bags or visible mats or anything of any kind.' Walking farther into the room, she spun on her heels, facing an unperturbed demi-Saiyan. "Okay, Son what are we supposed to be doing in here?" she questioned pointing at the empty room.
"This Videl is the gravity chamber," she watched Son take a long steady breath as she visible went into what Videl could only call the dreaded "lecture mode". "The purpose of a gravity chamber is to provide full body resistances at proportional increments to the Earth's gravitational pull. Unlike your normal weight machines or free motion weights, the gravity chamber can target all muscle groups at once, simply by standing or walking. To add higher difficulty common exercises can be used to increase over all power such as push-ups, sit-ups, vertical push-ups, flutter kicks…"
Son continued on and on listing one exercise after another, eventually Videl tuned her out focusing rather on the vivid red of Son's gi and how it fit just right, highlighting Son's various assets, assets she'd touched. Shaking her head, she focused back on the lecture. This was no time to be thinking about that. "…as well as squats. We, however, will be using the gravity chamber to increase your overall speed and strength at as rapid a pace as your body can handle so we most likely will not be utilizing any of those exercises. Basically we'll be starting off with simply kata's. You'll go through every kata that you know and once you've gone through the sets slowly, you'll speed it up and continue to increase the speed until you're going as quickly as your body will allow. This will allow you to become comfortable in the gravity level, at which point you will have to spar with me. "
Videl wasn't certain how she stayed focused on any of that long diatribe let alone the small portion she'd heard, but she had, well, she had for most of it and it wasn't like any of the segment she'd tuned out had anything to do with her training. Now she had a general idea of what they would be doing, and she didn't even have to waste brain space to do it. From what she'd gathered, it sounded boring. "Okay Son, what gravity are you starting us off at?" she asked as she watched the tall demi-Saiyan cross the room to a central panel she hadn't noticed on her own peruse about the chamber.
"Twice the strength of Earth's gravitational pull," Son casually replied.
"Two-g's, that's it. What, you don't think I can handle a higher setting," she challenged loving the thought of some form of confrontation with Son. She wanted to get the other girl all hot and bothered, and a fight seemed like the easiest way.
"Frankly no, I don't think you can handle higher g's just yet, but even if I did, I still wouldn't risk it. Gravity's not a mistress you want to play around with. Simply put, it's dangerous. Too many g's and you'll be crushed. I won't let anyone's arrogance or over confidence kill you, especially not mine," Son replied with a little backbone, not backing down for a moment. She may not have liked the answer, but a confident Son did things to her body that she wasn't entirely proud of. "I couldn't live with myself if I did," she added in little more than a whisper.
Wow. Now how could she stay mad at that? Whether Son had meant for her to hear it or not she had and she couldn't find it in herself to complain or challenge it. 'Looks like you win this one Son,' she thought as she turned her back on the other girl.
The next moment she was on the floor as the gravity got the better of her. "You know Son, next time a heads up would be much appreciated," she replied sarcastically through strained breathes as she pried herself off the ground, steadily getting her bearings.
"Thought you could handle it," Son taunted, surprising Videl with its sarcastic ring. This was a side of Son she'd never seen, and she wasn't sure if she liked it.
"Whatever," she mumbled as she began her warm up starting one kata at a time. The process was time consuming as she moved from one form to the next, Son demanding that she keep her normal perfection in the face of the added resistance. Sweat poured down her forehead as she moved on to the next form she could almost taste success as she neared the end of her set list, the last kata she knew. With a huff, she dropped to one knee for a break, hand balled into a fist and lightly resting on the floor as she gratefully took the pro-offered water bottle from Son's hand. Tilting her head back she took one long gulp of water, relishing in the cool feel of the liquid as it rain down the back of her parched throat.
"Okay, now do it again faster," Son chirped, far too happy for any normal person.
'Slave driver,' Videl thought as she got back up and fell back into her stance. Faster, she went through each form again, Son's voice at the back of her mind as she rattled off corrections before she was able to move to the next. She could hear the phase 'perfection is not an optional standard, its mandatory' repeated over and over again as she was forced to quickly repeat form after form until she got it right. It was beyond frustrating, but doable. Again she neared the end, letting out a sigh upon completion before she nearly collapsed to the floor, bent at the waist and hands on her knees.
"Wonderful Videl," Son chimed in, again too cheerful for any sane person. "Now, back to your feet and do it again as quickly as your body will allow."
The request baffled her. Here she was bent over and nearly ready to puke her guts out and Son wanted her to do that again, insane. She was completely insane. 'You're not a slave driver,' she though as she struggled to rise back to her feet. 'You've lost your kami-sama given mind and all sane thought to go along with it. You're the damn devil in sheep's clothing masquerading as a fucking girl, put on this planet for the sole purpose of tormenting the crap out of me. Your mind's been warped by a damn cloak of insanity as it roasts in the fires of Hell so hot it's frying your fucking brain and burning away your ability to fucking rationalize and see reason,' Videl ranted profanely in her head as she glared daggers into the back of Son's head while managing to fall back into her stance before taking a deep breath. On the exhale she moved, flashing through each form with an intensity she hadn't known she'd even possessed, backtracking only at the quick bark of Son's voice while she addressed a less than perfect form.
Videl collapsed to the floor again, sweat pouring down her face and soaking her shirt at the completion of her last kata. Her chest heaved with each rapid intake as she attempted to gain control over her breathing. Put simply, it was one of the hottest things Gohanna had ever seen, the sweat glistening off her skin awaking a hunger deep inside of her in the hidden depths of her soul. A pull raged against her common sense, begging her to act on her impulses, a plea that she stringently denied. Shaking herself from the stupor she'd found herself in, she straightened out her shoulders.
"Okay Videl, prepare yourself," she warned as she took a breath and charged. There was no reason for her to power up. Videl wasn't ready for that type of intensity. At least, not yet. Gohanna continued her charge anticipating the feel of flesh hitting flesh as she had a hard time believing that Videl could avoid the fist rapidly approaching her head in her current condition. Surprise lit her concentrated features when she completed her deadly arch and met nothing but the very air that had once been occupied by Videl's head. She grinned, eyes alight with a sinister joy she could have only picked up from too much time spent with Vegeta. 'Looks like this'll be more interesting then I first anticipated,' she thought as the excited gleam to her eyes shown darkly. Quickly rolling to the side she avoided the fist headed in her direction.
Sweeping a foot out under her opponent, she wasn't frustrated when her leg failed to contact. Instead she rolled forward, shifting her weight, and kicked up barely connecting with the rapidly retreating girl above her. She completed her flip, allowing her momentum to carry her back to her feet as she reset herself, a light look on her face as she surveyed the room.
Gohanna gave herself a momentary break, waiting for Videl to wipe herself off and regroup, falling back into a comfortable stance. It was a task that didn't take her long to accomplish. It took her an additional moment to realize that Videl wasn't going to be moving to attack any time soon, but when she did she was left with two options, to attack or hold her position, a dilemma that in any normal situation she'd side with safe rather than sorry.
'Wait, since when could this be considered a normal situation? This is Videl we're talking about, there is absolutely nothing normal about any situation between Videl and I. Hell, this shouldn't even be up for debate, Videl is literally right in front of me ready and willing to spar with me, perhaps my biggest fantasy and I'm just standing here. So not going to continue,' she thought before charging again, rapidly moving her fists in a familiar pattern in an attempt to crush the girl in front of her. Surprisingly, Videl was doing fairly well against the onslaught, dodging wherever possible and blocking everywhere else. For every right hook, she had a counter spin. Every left jab received a redirected duck, forcing her body to twist and turn in an ungraceful set of movements. Her body just couldn't move like Videl's, like fluid water, ever flexible, ever changing directions.
Gohanna jumped back, creating space in between them to give Videl a moment to breath and herself a moment to think. 'Okay, direct force won't work unless I pick up the pace and move faster than Videl, but the purpose of this spar is for Videl's personal growth so that will limit the amount I speed up, maybe just outside of what I suspect is her speed threshold,' she though quickly before charging back in, trying not to give Videl a significant amount of recovery time.
She fell into a set of jabs and strike combos at a blinding pace catching her opponent off guard and sending her flying across the room with a resounding crack. Gohanna waited patiently for her to get back up and was not surprised by the shaky rise as Videl flew at her. She dodged the fist aimed at her head and sent a double fisted blow to the back of Videl's head, succeeding in only grazing her back as she spun out of reach. It took another second to stop her momentum and by the time she'd righted herself and looked up, she was met with the welcoming sight of a foot to her face which she just barely dodged bending over backwards only to continue her momentum into a back flip.
Gohanna wiped the sweat starting to form on her brow and grinned. It didn't look like Videl was going to slow down any time soon. This was definitely going to be good.
…
'It was a mistake to look in her eyes,' Gohanna thought as she felt the back of her legs hit her bed. She wasn't sure how it happened, one minute she was finishing a perfectly innocent tour in her room and the next she's glancing into Videl's eyes, startled by their intensity but unable to look away. She'd been frantic to get away from that look, slowly backing away until she'd backed herself into her bed. So here she was Videl inches away from her and she still couldn't look away.
She opened her mouth to protest, which like looking directly into Videl's eyes was a complete mistake because as it turned out all she was able to do with the action was give Videl an opening. Gohanna dropped to her bed at the feel of Videl in her mouth, her tongue forcing its way down Gohanna's throat and her hand grabbing the front of her gi top, as if she was afraid Gohanna was going to try to escape. That was about as likely to happen as it was for Hercule to decide to get rid of all of his self-portraits littering the walls of Satan Manor.
Gohanna attempted to regain her senses as Videl let up for air. "Videl I…," Gohanna started but was unable to finish as she felt herself being roughly pushed down to her bed, her back hitting soft fabric as Videl's hands held her down, hard.
"I'm not sure why you feel the need to speak Son," Videl said as she began attacking her neck, nipping and biting the flesh beneath her lips as her hands slowly travelled down Gohanna's front. "But I suggest you don't."
It took Gohanna a while to come out of the pleasure induced haze to find Videl's hands grazing her stomach muscles sending chills up her body. 'This can't end well,' she thought as she gained control of her basic motor skills again. "Videl, we shouldn't be doing this," Gohanna managed as she grasped one of Videl's shoulders. The move had the adverse effect as the moment her hand made contact with bare skin her Saiyan instincts fought for control of her body, demanding that she give in to them and act on her desires. She quickly held her instincts at bay, shaking them off as she rapidly removed her hand before she could risk losing herself in the haze of her desires.
Videl seemed to ignore the statement altogether as her mouth continued to work Gohanna's collarbone, her hands slowly pushing Gohanna's gi top up her chest. Forcing a moan to escape Gohanna's lips as she bit down hard at the skin of her collarbone, her nails dug in deeply as they scraped across her tone stomach.
"You worry too much Son," Gohanna was startled by the sudden statement as Videl nipped her way back up her neck stopping at her jaw, her hands following her up the entire way, resting on her breasts. "You're still giving me a tour," she continued as her hands continued to push the top up to the point where she had both of Gohanna's arms trapped above her head in her own top. "I'm just the one leading it," Videl whispered directly into Gohanna's ear sending a chill up her spine.
Videl completed her task of taking Son's top off before she continued her attack on the willing body below her. Her hands sliding back down to the ample flesh of her breasts while her mouth found the nape of her neck. Son tasted so good, she imaged heaven had the same heady smell and earthy taste. Her senses were drunk with pleasure but she wanted more, oh so much more. She had the most driving urge to mark the girl below her, stake a claim. She wanted everyone to know who Son belonged to, her. And with that hazy mindset, Videl bit down harder than before, sucking on the flesh beneath her lips as her hands pinched and twisted the raised nipples of Son's breasts.
Videl smiled at the sound of the loud groan that escaped Son's lips. She reveled in the power she had over her. Enjoying the sounds she could get Son to produce with just a touch or nip or lick. Her desire to produce more overpowered every thought, erasing any common sense she might've had left as she nipped and kissed her way down to Son's breasts. Reaching her destination she growled in frustration, her hands frustratingly yanking the light covered fabric up above her prize and attacked hungrily at the left breast, her left hand coming up to fondle the right, forming circles around the tip as it mimicked the movement of her tongue. Switching breasts, Videl lightly nips at the nipple allowing her unoccupied hand to properly unclasp Son's bra and remove it, throwing it across the room in her hast.
Suddenly Videl felt a furry rope wrap around her waist, pushing her shirt up and holding her in place. 'So Son finally, wants to play,' Videl thought as a smirk grew on her face. Biting down hard on the nipple in her mouth Videl smirked again at the responding groan which contrary to her plan did not stop the hands that found their way under her shirt. Not deterred and fully enjoying her game, Videl attempted another distraction as she let one of her hands travel down Son's body momentarily stopping at the edge of her pants.
It never occurred to her to knock. Bulma had never done it before and she didn't think it would be a big deal today, but oh how wrong she was. All she wanted to do was check to see if Videl would be staying for dinner. She'd been trying to be a good guardian, a responsible adult, but when she twisted the door knob and opened the door, the question already formed on her lips and waiting to be released, she walked into a scene she most certainly wasn't prepared for. Videl, the girl she'd just recently met, was on top of Hanna-chan, straddling and bent over the taller girl. Her mouth was on Hanna-chan's chest, the specific location Bulma wasn't too keen on knowing. Her hands were nowhere in sight and in her experience she again didn't want to know the specific location. Hanna-chan lay there underneath her, prone, head thrown back, and hands disappeared under Videl's shirt. Her tail firmly wrapped around Videl's waist.
With a startled yelp, Bulma spun around noticing the discarded gi top and bra before she could squeeze her eyes closed. She heard a softly muttered fuck, before she could compose herself enough to speak.
"I'm so sorry. I'm just going to get out of your way," she said before hastily opening the door and practically running away, the unspoken carry-on still in the air. "Shit," she cursed after finally making it to the safety of her office. "And after our little talk earlier. Damnit, I promised myself I would be the cool parent," she chastised herself after taking a seat at her desk, trying to find something to keep her busy. "Fuck," she cursed again, slamming her fist into the hard surface of her desk. There was absolutely nothing that could take her mind off of what she'd just walked into. She'd known Hanna-chan had a thing for Videl, she'd known. Hell, she'd even known just about how far they'd gotten before. She'd known they were going to be in Hanna-chan's room together, she'd heard Videl inquire about it for heaven's sake. She'd seen the shut door. All the signs had been there, but it still hadn't clicked. "Come on Bulma think, two horny teenagers in a closed room, alone." She knew what she would have been doing at that age, yet she'd still walked in. "Dende, I am so uncool," she pouted.
…
Gohanna's long legs ate up the distance of the hallway as she sped down each lengthy corridor. If she'd thought her relationship with Videl was complicated after the supply closet incident as she'd started calling it, she'd had no way of predicting how awkward it was going to be now. Nothing spelled out social nightmare like having the woman who was as close to you as a second mother walking in on you while you're getting pretty hot and heavy, laid out completely horizontal on your bed. Life wasn't just complicated, it was a walking disaster. And Dende she just didn't know how she was supposed to act around Videl now. Did making-out like that make them a couple? Could she now go and hold her hand and sit next to her at lunch? Well, now that she thought about it, she normally sat next to Videl during their lunch period, but that's what everyone said couples were supposed to do so she just assumed.
'But what if we're not together?' she asked herself, worry etched into her features as she slowed down her strides. 'What if I've got this all wrong and she's not even interested in me?' Shaking her head she resumed her original pace. 'But that doesn't explain the supply closet incident or my bedroom. You don't just jump someone's bones for the hell of it. Dende, you've got to at least be interested,' she tried to console herself, if she could make herself believe it then she'd be able to put forth a logical argument for when she attempted to make Videl believe it too. At least that's what she kept telling herself.
Rounding a corner she paused in the middle of a hallway, too high strung to think and move at the same time. 'Okay Gohanna, let's make a list of everything we know,' she told herself as she unconsciously stepped out of the way of a first year. 'Videl has jumped me twice,' she stuck one finger in the air to start her mental count. It always helped to keep a physical count when she was this stressed out. 'But afterwards she gets really distant,' she moved to count with her other hand. 'She avoids me like the plague,' another finger for the left hand. 'She rushed to get out of my room last time,' three for her left hand and counting. 'But come on, Bulma totally busted into my room, it was super awkward. I don't think anyone would have stayed after that,' while she couldn't really add a count for her right hand, she certainly could take one back from the left. Great, now the cons didn't look so overwhelming. 'You know, after that, I've really got nothing else to add and with a list this short the standard margin of error just throws the data set out the window. There's absolutely no way to mathematically prove a trend in either direction,' she sighed as she lowered her hands and started walking again. Who knew science and mathematics could ever fail her?
Shaking out of her momentary slump, Gohanna got back to business. Hai, she was indeed out here, on her free period, for a reason. 'Man, Videl is certainly getting better at this disappearing act,' she thought as she turned another corner. But chances were good that she was getting closer to wherever Videl had vanished to. 'Speak of the devil,' she thought after taking another couple of steps forward just to see the object of her thoughts round the corner ahead of her, her head pointed downward as if she were off in her own little world, deep in thought.
'You know, this is starting to feel like the last time I went out of my way to look for Videl,' she pondered only slightly hesitant to bother the girl and face the outcome. If history kept repeating itself, she'd find her back pressed against some wall in a heavy make-out session with Videl, which really didn't bother her in the slightest. The real problem wasn't the immediate response. It was what was bound to occur afterwards, and she really didn't think she could continue with the silent routine. But it really wasn't the silence that got to her the most. It was the fact that Videl would down right refuse to look at her, her eyes always staring in some other direction, studiously avoiding her for however long it took her to get over it.
But she didn't get a chance to change her mind and head in the other direction, racing away from what had become a habit of theirs, a pattern she wasn't sure she wanted to start over again, as she watched Videl slowly look up. Her eyes bore into her own as she resurfaced from the land of her thoughts. The weight of Videl's stare, felt like the world pressing in on her, those ocean depths endless as she fell into them, unable to look away, unable to think of anything but Videl. Her lips, her taste, her smell, the feel of her body held close to her own. She was utterly lost, drowning in waters so deep it was as if there was no bottom, no end in their intensity. They held her captive. 'Dende help me,' she thought before her own thought process became over run with thoughts of Videl. It was as if the world had disappeared and all that was left was the two of them, breathing together, existing together.
As Gohanna lost herself in her own thoughts, slipping out of the world of the conscious as ocean blue depths consumed her very soul. Videl grabbed a hold of the front of her shirt, roughly pulling her forward, their bodies but a hands width apart. But just as Gohanna was about to lean down to take claim of those soft pink lips, Videl pulled away. Well not so much pulled away as dragged Gohanna behind her, her hand sliding down her front to end at the hem of her shirt where she pulled her from, leading her to a place of her choosing. The aggressive lead had Gohanna back in her bedroom a tongue invading her mouth as Videl had her way with her, or at least tried to. She could feel the heat rise in her body, her blood boiling as she following in anticipation, no resistance on her part as she let Videl pull her along.
It didn't take long for them to reach a staircase, isolated from the rest of the school. If Gohanna had been able to think of anything other than the way Videl's hips swung as she moved or the way her small frame nearly burst with power, she would have been able to recognize the familiar stairwell. As it was, they'd barely made it up the first couple of steps before Gohanna lost control. Hands reaching for those tantalizing hips in front of her, she grasped lightly at the girl in front of her. Long fingers gliding over surprisingly soft fabric, she felt each contour of Videl's body beneath her touch.
Her grip tightened, stopping the girl in front of her as she leaned down to kiss the back of her neck, her teeth racking over the skin beneath her mouth as her hands slid up Videl's body. The groan that escaped the girl in front of her rumbled low against her chest. She grinned at the feel of it, basking in her accomplishment for only a moment before Videl turned around, pushing her into the wall of the stairwell as she connected their mouths in a hard kiss. Hands roamed as tongues battled in a contest that seemed to last forever. However in an instant all was lost as Videl pulled away, not letting go of her shirt, but letting her hand fall back down to its previous spot at the hem as she tugged again. Leading them up the staircase at a pace only slightly faster than the one they'd held before the impromptu make-out session.
Again they didn't manage to make it too far up the stairwell before Gohanna's hands got the better of her. Uncontrollable urges forcing hands back on to the body they desperately wanted to touch. Wayward fingers found their way back to Videl's ass, digging into the toned flesh as they found purchase on the body in front of her. Pulling Videl backwards and molding their bodies together as her head bent back down and attacked the exposed neck below her. Long hair pulled to the side giving her better access, Gohanna's hands traced along the body practically glued to her front, memorizing every inch like the blind. 'Dende, I love that sound,' the thought quickly crossed her mind as Videl moaned deep in her throat. There was a raw power in control, bringing out a feral part of her she hadn't know existed. Emotions were heightened, touch, taste, and smell. It left her breathless, but she was loving every second of it.
Rough hands mapped the contours of her body as Videl's palms fisted the cotton material of her blouse. In one violent motion the demi-Saiyan was slammed into the back of a door, dragged from her previous spot on the staircase. Lips connected in a searing kiss, tongues battling for dominance. Without question Videl took control of the kiss, entering the other girl's mouth in a hot invasion that Gohanna was helpless to fend off. Forceful hands found the edge of Gohanna's blouse, pulling it from the confines of her skirt, exposing the taunt muscles and soft skin underneath. One hand left its exploring path to search around the door. Stopping at the door knob to yank it open, Videl dragged the half dazed demi-Saiyan through the entrance. Her back leaving the cool solid surface momentarily only to be slammed back into it now firmly on the other side of the door.
Their lips reconnected almost instantly as Videl pushed Gohanna even further into the hard wood surface of the rooftop door. Back pressed hard against the solid surface behind her, she felt small, lithe hands fumble with the buttons of the blouse. Usually nibble fingers stumbling in their hast to undo each fastener, halted their progress halfway up her chest to run the expanse of the already exposed flesh. The heat from open mouth kisses was threatening to overwhelm her. It was all too intense. The hands crawling up her body, nails digging into toned flesh as they raked across her exposed skin. Mouths burning, tongues wet as Videl dominated the long never ending kiss. In that moment she was filled with so much more than a hungry fire begging to be put out. She was filled with something more than that, something unnamable, and it was intoxicating.
Gohanna's hands found themselves buried in Videl's dark hair, pulling her close as if she were the one afraid Videl was going to let go and pull away from her. Her own insecurities subconsciously making itself known. She found herself bent over, the curl of her long body twisted at an interesting angle so that her back was still mostly pressed against the door yet the rest of her body was almost completely wrapped around the girl in front of her.
There was no end to the kiss insight, not when regular breathing was sacrificed for heavy pulls drawn through their nostrils. The temperature in the air rose, hitting an all-time high, burning the space between them to a crisp with each heavy pant. Dende, they really shouldn't be doing this up here. This was about as far away from private as if they'd been on top of Satan Manor. But by the gods, she didn't want to stop. Not now, not ever.
There was no room for words, which was probably a good thing. What could one talk about in the middle of a hot make-out session anyway? Small talk just seemed like a waste of energy at this point. Especially when that same energy could be put to better use. So they let the moment take them, carrying them away and surrounding them in their own little cloud of isolation. Videl's hands found their way across Gohanna's chest, each finger creating its own hot path, leaving a sizzling trail of sensation in its wake. Teasing thumps passed over raised nipples, lingering touches enticing another throaty moan from Gohanna's lips. Eventually lithe fingers found their way to the base of her neck, each seemingly delicate digit wrapped around a lock of her thick black hair, pulling hard to bring their bodies even closer.
The loud sound of a plane flying overhead brought them back to the land of the living, waking them from their passion induced haze long enough for Videl to take a slow measured step back and out of Son's grasp. 'What the fuck am I doing?' she asked herself as she took another step back, her arms falling from their previous spot around Son's neck, fingers unconsciously trailing along the fabric of the partially opened blouse on their way down.
She took another step back only to find that she'd reached the limit of her escape. Glancing down Videl's eyes caught sight of a familiar brown fuzzy appendage of which she was slowly growing accustomed to seeing. The furry tail impeding her escape was temporarily attached to her left leg. Its soft length firmly wrapped around her upper thigh and keeping her in place. The desire to run her fingers through the soft looking fur was getting harder and harder to ignore, but she held strong. She'd already given into so many desires as of late, she was not about to give in to another. Not when she had the power to stop herself, a power that she was sorely lacking in other more important areas. Fuck, she hated this. She was not a slave to her desires, but here she was taking thing too far, again.
"Sorry," she heard Son mutter, her eyes still glued to the fuzzy appendage still wrapped around her leg. She watched as Son loosened her tail's grip around her thigh, rewrapping it around her hips as she hid the appendage beneath her clothing. At least she didn't seem to have a problem hiding the damn thing. Now if only she could managed to keep it to herself in the first place.
"That's still hard to get used to," Videl mumbled as she shook herself from her thoughts, sliding around Son in her quest to reach the door. She needed to get out of here fast before she did something else she was almost guaranteed to regret. And weirdly enough, she had the strangest urge for an orange soda. She didn't even like soda.
"I still can't believe it doesn't freak you out," Son stated completely missing the fact that she was inconveniently standing in front of the only door off of the roof, the door that Videl had every intention of using.
"Yea, well as exciting as that is, I've got better things to do with my time than to freak out over your heritage and extra appendages," she replied off handedly while making another move for the door. This was getting old real quick and the worst part was it didn't look like Son was going to get the hint and move anything soon. "Look Son, I've got a date with a soda machine that I'd really like to get to before the end of free period so if you'd be so kind as to remove your ass from my path that would be just fucking delightful," she added, her sarcastic nature getting the better of her.
"Yea, sure," Son dumbly replied before sliding out of the way. Videl was through the door and several steps down before the taller girl realized what was happening in the world around her. Stumbling back to reality, she stopped Videl from getting farther away. "Videl, wait," she called, hesitantly taking a step forward.
"What now Son?" she asked a distant look to her face as she turned around her eyes never meeting the other girl's in front of her.
"I, ah, I just wanted to know what," she paused tentatively looking up into a horribly blank stare. "What are we doing?" The question had escaped her mouth before her brain had a chance to catch up. This could end horribly, but now that it was out, already in the air around them, she found that she really did want to know the answer. This meant something to her, and now she really did have to know so in one quick move she'd cut Videl off before she could speak. She couldn't let her brush her inquiry aside with some sarcastic remark, not this time. No, this time, she actually needed an answer. "I mean this is the third time we've…" here she trailed off, a blush rising to her cheeks. "Well, this is the third time and I want this to mean something. It has to mean something." Her voice quivered as she nearly begged for an answer. Head bent, she shifted her gazed. There was just no way she'd be able to look at Videl directly. Not after getting all of that off her chest.
"Look Son," Videl began her tone a distant shadow of her normal voice. "It was a kiss, not the end of the world or the beginning of well anything really. This isn't some fairytale where prince charming comes to sweep you off your feet. I'm not sure what you were hoping for or looking for in all of this, but this certainly isn't going anywhere."
Gohanna felt a sharp pain in her chest, like a stab to the heart, she faltered. She wasn't sure what she'd expected, but this, the hurt, the betrayal. She hadn't expect this. "I just, I just thought that maybe you l-liked me," she choked out, afraid that the hurt and pain she felt was written on her face. Taking a deep breathe, she tried to expel every fragile, weak emotion from her body. She wasn't going to cry in front of Videl. She wasn't going to let her see how much this was effecting her.
"I'm not sure what gave you that idea Son, but you are most certainly not at the top of my potential dating list." The words cut deeper than any pain she'd ever felt before. Sharper than the ache of broken bones, harsher than any hit, any blast she'd ever experienced. But she refused to break, refused to give up on something she knew she wanted more than anything else. She refused to be pushed away. So with one more gulp of air, she took a stand.
"I don't know, maybe it was the way you threw yourself at me, not once but three times," she shot back, the hurt and pain of rejection turned into righteous fury. Videl could push all she wanted, but Gohanna wasn't going to let her lie. She would force the issue if she had to. "But hey, maybe that's just the way us normal people think when someone drags them down a hall to make-out with them."
"Normal," Videl laughed. "Miss my father was a fucking alien is trying to pass herself off as normal. I don't fucking believe it 'cause now I've seen everything."
"You know what Videl," she nearly yelled, tears threatening to pour from her eyes, but she held them in. She would not cry. "You're no better than a common bully, and I don't even understand why. You have everything. Everything you could possibly ever want. Everything you could conceivably dream. You have everyone jumping out of their way to do anything and everything for you. And they actually want to be doing it. They cherish you. The ground you walk on, the things you touch. They love you. They love you just the way you are. Yet you're completely and utterly miserable. You're miserable and sad and alone and all I want to do is be there for you. Is it so much to ask that let me in? Is it too much to hope that you'll let me help?
"Because all I want to do is take away some of that pain, and chase away the loneliness, but you won't let me. You won't let anyone in to see you, the real you. You can deny it all you want, but I know the truth. I know you want me because I can see it in your eyes. In the way you look at me when you don't think anyone else is watching. In the way you kiss me, desperate and hungry and searching for something more, for someone to love you. You may not be able to listen to your heart, but I can hear it loud and clear. I know what it tells me even if you don't. Maybe you can't hear what it has to say, or maybe you just don't want to listen. None of that matters because I'll never stop listening. But that doesn't mean I'm going to stand here and take your abuse. I'm a person with feelings, and I won't let you break them. I'm not going to simply stand here and let you lash out at me because you won't listen to your own damn heart. And I refuse to be just some tool for you to use to satisfy your own curiosity, or whatever urges you may have. I can wait until you open your eyes and see you how I see you. You're beautiful, and worthwhile and strong, but you don't seem to see any of that. And the worst part is you push that view point on to those surrounding you. Well, I know who I am. I'm not worthless. I'm not some tool you can just use and throw away. And I won't let you treat me that way. So as long as you see me that way, I don't think we can be friends."
Speechless, Videl watched Son hit the button on her watch, turning into Saiya-girl in the blink of an eye, before blasting off the rooftop. And she watched as she became just another spec in the sky, shapeless in the large expanse. It wasn't until Son had completely left her field of vision that it finally hit her. She'd just lost a friend. She'd just lost someone who was rapidly become such a large part of her life. And for what? Her own insecurities? Her own stubbornness? Kami-sama, why was life so fucking hard? Why couldn't we just live our lives in peace? Why couldn't we just fall in love? Why couldn't we all have our own happy fucking endings? Was it too much to ask for? Turning around started back down the staircase, she had only one thought on her mind. 'What have I done?'
AN: Okay, now don't kill me, at least one of you call it and I'll have to give you mad props for that. Anyway, it kind of makes sense if you follow. You just can't use people because you're uncertain. So here it is, I know it's short but it just needed to end here. Anyway, I'm a writer and you know what we like, review, review, review. It motivates me.
