Authors Note: Okay, so I know its been like forever since I updated so there will be two chapters going on tonight. Unfortunately I'm not promising anymore as my postings are getting further apart and I know that it's frustrating. So thank you for those who have remained interested and apologies to those who have decided the gaps are too long and have given up. I completely understand. There will be updates but they will be slow. Anyhow, the next two chapters will be the cheerleading revelation so I hope you enjoy.
They enjoyed a hero's welcome upon their return to Dalton, the Warblers were held in even higher stead than usual by the rest of the students, warm greetings of congratulations echoed through the halls with calls of praise and good wishes for the days following the win. The stresses of classes seemed to ease during this time and Kurt found himself able to relax and enjoy the days following the success without the worries of additional work, Wes was certain that it was because they were all riding the wave of success that they felt invincible but David was pretty insistent that the faculty were actually going easy on them for once and grudgingly Wes had agreed that his was probably a more realistic explanation but either way Kurt relished the free time he had to spend with his friends.
Kurt and Blaine sat curled together in one of the large couches in the common room, Wes, David and Jeff sat together at one of the tables across the room playing some sort of card game which Wes appeared to be losing if the scattering of cards and the loud groans of defeat were anything to go by as he threw his hand across the table as David crowed loudly and grabbed the counters from the centre. Jeff laughed loudly as Wes lost for the third time in a row, smiling happily as Nick crossed the room and planted a kiss on his forehead before dropping into the seat next to him.
"Hey babe" Jeff smiled.
Nick cast a glance across the room toward an occupied Blaine and Kurt before leaning toward Jeff, "so did you tell them yet?"
"Tell us what" David asked without looking up from where he was counting his winnings and stacking them into even towers much to Wes's annoyance.
"Nope, I was waiting for you" Jeff grinned back.
Nick smiled and the two lost themselves in each other's gazes for a few moments before being brought back to the present by a loud sigh from Wes.
"Okay Niff what is it that you didn't tell us?" Wes asked, more to postpone another round of the game than actual interest in what they might reveal. Wes didn't like to lose, he was used to being the best at most things and he really didn't like to lose to David who would lord it over him knowing full well that it would piss him off. It had always been the same since they were kids and age hadn't lessened their competitive edge.
Jeff looked over Wes's shoulder before dropping his voice to a whisper and gestured for them all to lean over the table so that they could better hear him.
"We have a plan..."
"A plan?" suddenly interested in the conversation David leaned closer; Jeff was being very conspiratorial which had peaked his interest instantly knowing how Jeff could get.
"Shush" Nick warned gesturing for David to keep his voice down as he too cast a glance toward the couple on the couch.
"Yes we have a plan...listen I found out a while ago that Kurt was a cheerleader"
Wes coughed out a laugh whilst David managed to knock over the tidy columns of his winnings as he flailed at the information sending counters scattering loudly onto the wooden floor, Kurt looked up at the sound and smiled at a waving Jeff before snuggling down into Blaine and turning his attention to the movie again.
"Jesus Christ does Blaine know?" Wes asked quietly a laugh in his voice as he peeked toward his oblivious friend.
The matching grins on Jeff and Nick's faces were answer enough but Nick decided to state the obviously anyway, "nope...but we thought maybe we could let the cat out of the bag so to speak"
"There are awesome videos" Jeff added excitedly making Wes's eyes bug out whilst Nick placed a calming hand on his boyfriends knee to try and make him quiet down.
"Ok get to the plan..." David's voice rising excitedly from beneath the table as he bent low to pick up his lost winnings.
Jeff lowered his voice again and leant further over the table, "Listen Nick and I were kind of...roaming around McKinley after we won" Jeff blushed and he felt Nick's foot graze his leg as he smiled at him, "anyway, yeah, Nick and I happened to come across some stuff which would be awesome when we tell Blaine, kind of a visual aid so to speak"
"and this stuff" Wes said with a wave of his hand, "is where exactly?"
"Um, well it's in my room" Nick admitted sheepishly, "we kind of borrowed it"
Wes considered the guilty looking couple "borrowed it..."
"well yeah, we borrowed it" Nick admitted with a blush flushing his cheeks and creeping down his neck as Jeff winked at him.
"Yeah I look awesome in red" Jeff chirped.
"Spare us please" David grumbled, "get to the good part when are we doing this?"
Wes looked thoughtful, "Sunday?...Kurt will be back early evening."
"Sounds like plan to me Montgomery" David agreed, "now lemme see these videos..."
Jeff grinned wickedly as he pulled out his phone and passed it to David who drew his chair next to Wes's as the pair hunched down, heads together to stare at the small screen, Nick and Jeff kept watch across the room to make sure the couple were still distracted and more than once had to shush them as they sniggered and "holy shitted" the performances.
David was the first to look up "Oh my god this is awesome, who knew he could bend that way, I mean is that even possible for a dude?"
Wes was dumbfounded, sure he knew Kurt was an awesome singer but even he was floored by the performances before him, the high octane routines and the full out singing and Kurt still managed to hit every note from every impossible angle he was thrown into. Wes had a new found respect for his friend and was already thinking up new formats for upcoming performances.
"Holy shit" was pretty much all he managed to utter as Jeff smirked and leant over grabbing his phone before dropping it into his blazer.
"and you're sure Blaine doesn't know about this?" David laughed in amazement, "if I was Kurt I'd be cart wheeling down the corridors every chance I got"
Nick and Wes laughed loudly gaining the attention of the couple across the room, "what's funny?" Kurt asked with a raised brow.
"Nothing much" Nick answered confidently as Jeff kicked him under that table, "just waiting for Wes to lose his shirt again"
Kurt untangled himself from Blaine's embrace much to his boyfriend's displeasure and raised his hands above his head in a full stretch as he came to standing, a groan emanating from both of them at the action but for very different reasons.
"Are you three fleecing him" Kurt asked with a smile as he dropped his hands back to his sides and strolled toward them.
Outraged expressions fell on all of their faces as he grinned and made his way across to the table, grabbing a chair and placing it between David and Wes.
"I'll help you out if you like Wes, we'll play partners"
Wes regarded Kurt's confident posture and smug air before sitting straighter in his chair and straightening his tie.
"Yeah sure" he smiled smugly at David, Jeff and Nick who were looking a little apprehensive.
"You're some sort of card ninja aren't you" David asked through narrowed eyes.
"Just deal David" Kurt smiled serenely as he cracked his knuckles across the table and Wes vibrated excitedly next to him.
Nick turned to Jeff "he's bluffing right?"
Jeff shrugged his shoulders in response his gaze raking over his friend trying to read him but finding it impossible.
"Hey Blaine, he's bluffing right...?"
"Sorry buddy you're on your own" he laughed from the couch and smiled at Kurt's wink.
"Bloody fantastic" David grumbled and he could feel his winnings disappearing already as the first cards were dealt.
Jeff bounced around Dalton for the rest of the week hardly able to contain himself from blurting out his master plan, Nick had fed his excitement wanting nothing more than to support his boyfriend and a happy Jeff made for a very happy Nick. Kurt had asked on more than one occasion if Jeff was okay after he'd all but forcibly been removed from his vicinity by Nick on more than one occasion when his blabber mouth almost got the best of him but had been reassured by a shrugging Wes that Jeff was just being more, well more Jeff. Kurt had pondered this for a beat before shrugging himself and accepting the explanation, Jeff was after all a little odd in the best kind of way.
Packing up to go home for the weekend Kurt was eventually waved off by a highly strung Jeff who had practically pushed him toward the doors whilst carrying his bag for him to make sure he actually left, Blaine had barely gotten an opportunity to say goodbye to his boyfriend before he was buckled into his car and waving confusedly as he pulled out of the parking area, Blaine and a maniacally waving Jeff growing smaller in the rear view mirror.
"So what are we doing tonight?" Blaine asked as they walked back toward the dorms.
"Movie I guess and seeing as you're already pouting coz Kurt left we'll even let you choose" Jeff laughed as he teased his friend with a mock pouty face.
Blaine checked his expression and mentally kicked himself upon realising that yes, he was in fact already pouting over the fact that Kurt had left for the weekend, hell it hadn't even been five minutes and it was going to be a long weekend if Jeff was already teasing him about it so plastering on what passed for a normal expression Blaine met his friends teasing eyes, "are you sure Jeff?" he taunted, "you know you don't usually like my choices"
"Well yeah, it beats looking at your sad hound dog face all weekend" Jeff teased with a wicked grin, "besides how bad can your choice be..."
"This is really bad" David whispered to Wes receiving a nod of agreement in return. They were sitting with their backs against the couch which Blaine currently occupied, a large bowl of popcorn resting on David's lap with Wes's hand almost permanently situated in it, when it wasn't bringing handfuls up to his mouth.
"Uh huh" he replied through a mouthful, "really, really bad"
Blaine was smiling smugly at a glowering Jeff who had spent most of the movie sulking and grumbling to Nick who was valiantly trying to placate his boyfriend whilst attempting to watch the world's worst movie. Nick loved Jeff but sometimes he had to agree that he needed to take his lumps and if he offered Blaine the movie choice he had to learn to live with it, although he had a sneaking suspicion that Blaine wasn't paying any attention to the movie anyway judging by the amount of time Blaine had spent texting and smirking evilly at an increasingly annoyed Jeff.
"Thank fuck for that" Jeff shouted as the end credits rolled, arms flailing about as he tried to push himself up from Nicks side and grab the control at the same time, "that was the worst fucking movie in the world man, you totally did that on purpose"
"I don't know what you mean Jeffrey" Blaine smiled innocently earning himself a bitch glare from his friend at the use of his full name.
"I call a vote. Blaine doesn't get to choose the movie ever again, all in favour" Jeff shouted raising both his and Nick's hands in the air as he looked to Wes and David who were also voting in the affirmative.
"This is your fault Jeff, you gave him the choice" David stated before catching the stop gesture that Nick was making with his hands behind Jeff's back.
"That is entirely beside the point, I was doing Blaine a favour David, a favour, cheering him up while Kurt was away but what does he do? He subjects us to that"
Blaine was outwardly laughing; his phone held in his hand as another laughing voice could be heard emanating from it.
Jeff stopped his rant and narrowed his eyes at the phone in Blaine's hand.
"Kurt?"
"Hey Jeff" he managed to reply between giggles.
"You chose this fucking film didn't you?"
"Yep"
"Why? Why would you do that to me Kurt" Jeff whinged his hands hanging next to him as he whined toward the handset which was shaking in Blaine's hand as he continued to laugh at his friend.
"Well you shouldn't tease Blaine when I'm not there" Kurt smirked down the line.
"but Kurt...it's so easy, he pouts and everything"
"Do not" Blaine said in defence.
"Yeah he does" David shouted from the floor, "absolutely does" Wes agreed loudly, both of them receiving a hit around the head with a cushion for their trouble.
Kurt continued to laugh, "look guys as much fun as torturing Jeff is I'm afraid I have to go I'm helping my dad out tomorrow at the garage and we're having an early start"
Jeff dropped down onto the couch next to Blaine, "Aww Kurt don't go, hang out with us a while longer...pleeaaase"
"As much as your heart felt plea is tugging at my heartstrings the answer is no Sterling, sorry"
"Jeez Kurt you're cranky" Jeff glowered at the handset, "but fine you go get your beauty sleep"
"Not that he needs it" Blaine smiled, and David pretended to puke into his popcorn bowl.
Kurt continued to chuckle at his daft friend, "I'll call you tomorrow baby and I'll see you guys on Sunday"
A chorus of "goodnight Kurt" resonated around the room before Blaine took off the speaker and mumbled his own goodnights to his boyfriend from the privacy of the end of the couch. Jeff's mood instantly lightened at the mention of Kurt returning on Sunday and the prospect of their plan going into action and he practically bounced back across to Nick who was smiling at his infectious excitement.
Nick had had his hands full for the rest of the weekend as Jeff counted down the moments until he could reveal Kurt's cheerleading days. Nick was currently laid on his bed, eyes tight shut, pillow clamped tightly over his head as he valiantly tried to block out the light from the lamp as Jeff read next to him. It was the early hours and Jeff was still yet to relax despite Nick's best attempts at distraction, actually Nick was feeling a little aggrieved that Jeff was still so awake, usually there would be snuggling and the eventual drifting off to sleep but Jeff had been like a kid on the mother of all sugar rushes on Christmas morning and he still wasn't sleepy.
On a resounding groan he rolled over and flung the pillow down the bed, "Jeff for the love of god will you please at least try to sleep?"
Looking away from the book he was holding Jeff smiled down at his crumpled looking boyfriend.
"What the hell are you reading anyway" he asked through squinted eyes.
"Taming of the Shrew" Jeff answered looking down and turning the book in his hand so that Nick could see the cover, that is if he opened his eyes properly, "we're doing it in English next week remember."
"Uh yeah, I remember" Nick groaned, "and you've nearly finished it I assume."
"You know me baby"
"Yes then..."
"Go to sleep Nick"
"Why do you have to be smart" he grumbled as he threw his hand around Jeff's waist and nuzzled his face into his side in an attempt to block out the light, Jeff dropped his hand around his shoulders and pulled him close, his hand finding its way into his boyfriend's hair flexing his fingers through it comfortingly.
Several minutes passed before, "please turn the light out" was mumbled into the silence and with a smile Jeff marked his page, dropped the book to the floor and shuffled lower on the bed pulling Nick closer before turning out the light and dropping a kiss to the top of his head before he closed his eyes and finally attempted to sleep.
Kurt had spent a fairly uneventful weekend at home, apart from helping Blaine to torture Jeff which he had to admit had been hilarious, the pathetic whine his friend had let out once he realised he'd been set up was delicious and even Finn and Burt had grinned in appreciation as they sat next to Kurt in the lounge listening to Kurt's friend moan and complain. The Hummel-Hudson men had pretty much spent the weekend together, working at the garage, eating pizza, watching the game, which even Kurt had got on board with, after all just because he didn't usually choose to watch football, it didn't mean he didn't understand it and he had to admit it was nice to have a connection to two of the most important men in his life and it was actually fun to curse the ref and shout at the TV.
Kurt scowled up at this brother through narrowed eyes as a ball of paper hit him squarely on the forehead, "Hey Kurt" Finn called.
"WHAT FINN"
"Pass the chips man"
"Are you serious you oaf, come get them yourself"
"Kurt pass your brother the chips" Burt said with a dismissive wave as he concentrated on the game as Finn stuck out his tongue in triumph.
Kurt's eyes bounced between a smug looking Finn and a distracted Burt, his mouth hanging open in indignation before he snapped it shut and slowly stood, walking painfully slowly toward his brother who was flicking his gaze nervously between the game and the oncoming Kurt. Finn shifted to the side in order to peer around his brother when he came to a stop in front of him, "uh thanks man" he stuttered and he held his hands out to take the bowl.
"Oh you are very welcome" and with a positively evil smile Kurt raised the bowl higher and unceremoniously dumped the contents over the head of a flabbergasted Finn who was sitting dumbfounded with a pile of chips on his head and in his lap.
"Man you are so dead" he yelled as Kurt screamed with laughter and took off toward the stairs followed by the thundering steps of his larger brother as he chased him through the house. Burt's only reaction was to sigh, shake his head, take a swig of his beer and turn up the volume. Sure this wasn't quite what he had in mind when he imagined Kurt having a brother, his imaginings were always of two small boys running around the house playing cowboys and Indians, hollering and driving each other crazy, making dens, trailing dirt through the house, not two teenagers which were currently thundering around up stairs shouting and laughing whilst they irritated each other but the smile on his face gave him away. All he'd ever wanted for Kurt was to have a family and with the loss of Elizabeth he had resigned himself to him never being able to supply that dream to his son, so no matter what form it came in he was delighted for Kurt to have a brother and if that meant the ceilings shaking as they chased each other around and the light fittings shuddering as Finn bounced around upstairs to Kurt's music, he couldn't think of anything better and after all the pair of them together were for all intense of purposes two hyperactive kids.
Burt's attention was turned from the game when Carole returned from work, "Hey honey" a tender kiss pressed to his temple, "what happened here?"
"Ah well" he started to explain as he pushed himself out of his chair grabbing his empty beer bottle as he stood, "that would be Kurt and Finn."
Looking up to meet his wife's gaze he was greeted with a warm smile and eyes that sparkled in amusement, "uh huh and are they coming back to clean it up?"
"BOYS" Burt yelled as he shuffled somewhat guiltily under his wife's look.
Carole outright laughed at his guilty expression and made her way toward the kitchen to grab a dust pan Burt following after and placing his bottle on the counter top before taking her hands and leading her around in a small circle.
"Honey what are you doing" Caroline chuckled softly, her warm eyes glowing.
"Shush, I'm dancing with you and I need to concentrate"
"Why Mr Hummel-Hudson I do believe you are a romantic old fool" Carole laughed as Burt turned her slowly whilst humming a barely recognisable tune.
"Well I try. But I resent the fool comment"
"but not the old?"
"No sadly not" he grinned bringing his lips to hers before giving a gentle kiss.
"Noooooo."
"Daaddddd"
For an inexplicable reason neither had managed to hear the two teens crashing down the stairs and stumbling through the kitchen doors, both grinding to a halt at the romantic scene before them.
"Oh mom, c'mon I don't need to see that" Finn whined loudly as he covered his eyes trying to rub the image from then.
"Yeah dad, get a room" Kurt grinned and winked at Carole who smiled in return.
"Hey I've had to watch you two make out often enough" Burt protested as Carole laughed.
"We've never..." Finn spluttered into life, "he means with our partners Finn"
"Oh yeah right. Sorry"
"Doof"
"Hey"
"Doof"
"Enough. You two, go clean up the chips so I can get back to kissing my wife"
"Gladly. I don't wanna see this" Finn grumbled heading out of the room clutching the dust pan he grabbed from the cupboard on the way out closely followed by Kurt who for once was in complete agreement.
