"Are you ready?!" CJ stormed into the bedroom where Toby was finishing his packing.

"Yes, god, I'm finished." He groaned back and picked up the case from the bed.

"It needs to look like you've picked me up, we can't be late." She mumbled as they entered the hallway, luggage in tow.

"I know, I know. We have plenty of time." Toby muttered and kissed her, "Calm down, yeah?"

"Fine," she sighed, "I'm so stressed already."

His hand rested on her cheek reassuringly, "It's going to be fine. The summit prep has gone down a storm and the entire weekend will run smoothly."

The staffers gathered on board Air Force One for the long flight to Seattle for the G8 Summit. CJ was rounding up the Press Corps while the others – Josh, Sam and Toby – assembled with the President.

Josh and Sam had animatedly been discussing the continued efforts to observe CJ and Toby this weekend which caused Bartlet to turn from his conversation with Toby who remained unaware.

"What in God's name has you two so excitable?" he asked, "I can't even get enthused about the summit, although don't let CJ or Abbey hear me say that."

Josh coughed awkwardly, noticing Toby's watchful eye, "Erm, nothing sir."

"I have my eye on you two," Jed warned before Donna appeared at Josh's side.

"Josh, Sam, can I see you a minute?" she asked warily.

"Sure," Josh replied and he and Sam followed her into a spare room.

"Right, my insider knowledge also known as Margaret informs me that I'm rooming with CJ this weekend. However, I want to be in a room with you Josh so I can help you with your workload. Got it?" she said suggestively.

"Right!" Josh said, taking her hint straight away, "Who is Toby with at the moment?"

"You, I think. Sam's bunking with Henry, CJ's deputy, so it all works out."

"Excellent, Donna," Sam smiled, "They'll have to room together and oh they'll you know, be doing it a lot. I wonder if listening through the wall will help us catch them out?"

"Wow Sam, that got creepy real quick," Josh muttered, brows furrowed.

"No, but if they you know, are obvious, and one of us shouts through the wall, we know they're busted."

"That's absurd, Sam." Donna said pointedly.

"The possibilities are endless," he mocked back.

As CJ was dealing with the Press Corps for most of the flight, she didn't have a chance to check up with Toby and Sam on last minute draft changes. When Toby eventually managed to run them by her, he flagged her down in one of the many offices aboard the plane.

"Got a minute?" he wondered, knocking on the half open door.

"Hey, yeah," she gestured for him to come in and sit opposite her while she jotted notes onto one of the press releases.

"We're changing the opening remarks." He told her while CJ removed her glasses, rubbing her eyes, "You'll have to issue another sheet to the Press."

"Okay," she sighed, "which page?"

"Fourth."

"Right, where?"

"Just on the end."

"Okay."

"You okay?" she looked up to see him watching her closely, "You look tired already."

"Jeez, thanks Toby."

"CJ…"

"What?"

"Take a nap, I've barely seen you sit down since we took off."

"I don't have time,"

"Yes, you do." He said softly.

CJ groaned at Toby, whose thumb was rubbing the back of her hand, "We're not even in Seattle yet."

"Precisely, so come out and leave the work for a little while."

"Fine," she contended and stood up, gathering a small pile of notes to take with her.

"Oh, Donna, do you know who we're all rooming with?" CJ asked once she had joined Toby and the others. She hadn't quite found the time to sleep still, much to Toby's dismay.

"Nope," she said innocently, having decided to reveal the details once in Seattle.

"Okay."

She was hoping for a room with Toby given her recent bad moods over the summit and his ability to completely erase these feelings. The others continued talking, but she found herself closer and closer to sleep, unaware of the way Donna was observing her automatically move nearer in her seat towards Toby.

It wasn't long before she was completely asleep, his arm drawn subtly around her, and eventually the others moved away onto their own things.

"Where's CJ?" Jed walked into Josh in a hallway a little while later, who soon directed the President into the cabin they had all previously occupied.

"Look at them," Josh pointed to Toby almost asleep, but with the peacefully slumbering CJ leaning on his shoulder.

"Isn't that lovely?" he gushed quietly in response, "They look like a nice little couple."

Josh coughed awkwardly, "Well sir, Donna has brought it to our attention that maybe they are one."

"Toby and Claudia Jean?"

"Yes, sir."

"Who is we, when you say our attention?"

"Sam and I, Mr President. We're absolutely convinced, the three of us, that they are in some form of relationship."

"I see," Jed continued to watch the pair and Josh was completely surprised at the President's sudden enthusiasm for their theory.

He suddenly realised the implications of the President knowing, "But erm, it hasn't affected their work, so they're clearly good at separating work and personal affairs."

"Don't worry, Joshua, I think it's a great idea. Save the speech for Leo."

"Okay, Mr President,"

"Tell her to find me when she wakes up.

"Yes, sir."

Josh was full of giddiness as the President retreated to his office and eagerly sought out Donna who was sitting with Henry in another cabin, "Donna, hi, you seen Sam?"

"He's working I think, in there," she gestured to a door down the corridor.

"Cool. Henry can I steal her a moment please?"

He nodded, "Sure."

Donna looked perplexed as Josh dragged her into the office Sam was in.

"What do you want?" Sam asked the pair, noticing them standing at the doorway.

"Well," Josh shut the door and Donna sat on a small couch in the corner of the room, noticing he had something to say, "Guess who knows about our little investigation?"

Donna gasped, "Did they say something?"

"No, no, not CJ and Toby," he soothed the worried looks on both Sam and Donna's face, "The President."

"The President?" Sam repeated, confused.

"Yes, Sammy! He was looking for CJ and I showed him the pair of them sleeping in the cabin. He said and I quote 'Isn't that lovely? They look like a nice little couple'."

"No way!" he replied.

"Yeah! And I mentioned we thought that maybe they were, and then it dawned on me he wouldn't approve, but he said 'I think it's a great idea, save the speech for Leo'."

Donna grinned at the pair, knowing her observations were shared by others, especially the President himself, was a great feeling, "Do you think this is helpful in any way?"

"We could get a photo of them, and say the President saw it and thinks they make a great couple. They can't deny the President."

"But wouldn't that be a waste of our planning up to now?" she questioned, "Unless!" a thought came to her mind, "We tell them they're rooming together because the President saw them asleep together and thought they would make a good couple?"

Sam was quietly ruminating and Josh was the first to speak, "Do you think he'd be up for being behind that?"

"I wouldn't want to ask him," Sam said.

"Nor would I," Donna added, "We could just say it ambiguously though? As in to say after their little cosy sleep, we all thought they might want to spend more time together? They'd maybe take a hint if they thought we were setting them up?"

"I love it," Sam told her, and Josh's approval was clear on his face.

"As do I."

Once landed in Seattle, Bartlet and the staffers gathered in one of the conference rooms designated for them for the summit weekend.

"I believe you all have copies of your schedules," Jed stated, "So you'll be aware that you all will be engrossed in last minute preparations for tomorrow while I dine with the leaders tonight. Leo will be joining a conference call at 7pm which will allow you to assist him in dealings back in Washington – Josh and Sam in particular." The pair exchanged quietly bemused glances, "CJ, Toby, you two focus on the press conference in the morning and my remarks. We'll regroup if Leo needs any of you back. Thank you all, I'll see you later on."

"Wait up guys, I have the room keys and roommate list!" Donna called out once the President had left the room. They all stared attentively at her.

"CJ, you're with Toby," she paused as she found a post-it note on top of her sheet, "The President found that you two were looking rather cosy on the plane and thinks you'd appreciate rooming together."

Donna tried to repress her smirk, Josh snorted and Sam remained composed. CJ and Toby both looked stunned, but CJ came out of it to slap Josh on the arm with her folder before turning to back to Donna, "He what? Okay. Gimme both the keys. Last time I roomed with him he lost them both."

"I did not!" Toby exclaimed in mock outrage but was silenced by her stare.

"Sam's with Henry and I'm with Josh. Charlie has his own room closer to the Presidential suite." She began distributing the keys, "How about we meet back here in an hour to start working?"

A chorus of "okay" and "yeah" circulated and everyone went their own ways, Josh staying back to murmur in Donna's ear.

"Did you see the look on their faces?" he whispered gleefully.

Toby and CJ reached their room, hauling suitcases onto the bed. CJ smiled to see that it was a one double bed as opposed to two twin beds, but then remembered the words Donna quoted from the President.

"Toby? Does it not worry you that the President has basically caught us out?" she asked him as she found him observing their en-suite.

He turned and faced her, "No? You think that's what it is?"

"I think your theory might be right."

"How would the President know?"

"He could've walked in when we were asleep. Wait, he will have, I had to go see him when you'd gone off to call Leo."

"So you're saying we're busted?"

"I think so."

"Do you want to tell them?"

"I want to say 'hey guys we're together you can stop with all the shenanigans'. But then I don't."

"Why not?"

"It'll be awkward that we've waited this long when we knew what they were doing."

She walked back into the bedroom and he followed, "Right. Just going to play it out then?"

"Yeah," she sighed and kissed him quickly, an open-mouthed kiss and a hand on his chest.

Toby responded by drawing his arms around her and prolonging the kiss before murmuring seductively in her ear,

"You want to skip the unpacking?"

Surprisingly, no-one really noticed when CJ and Toby came down to the conference room a little late and looking overly flustered. They set up their connecting call to Leo and everyone just sat working. Donna brought food in at along 9pm, and Charlie joined them after being rendered not needed by the President for the night. Leo informed them that the House vote was causing trouble among weaker Democrats, so Josh and Toby would need to fly back on Saturday.

"Are you sure we're needed, Leo?" Toby asked in frustration, jotting down some notes on his legal pad.

"Toby, it's imperative that we get the numbers we need for this bill. The Republicans are having a field day trying to exploit our gun control objectives and we need to put this right."

"By putting the poster boy of gun control out there?" Josh shot him a glare, but was met by an apologetic shrug.

"Josh," Leo spoke up, "You have a problem with fending off Republican pro-gun lobbyists?"

"No, sir." He replied.

"There you have it, Toby. I'll have Margaret book you flights back out here for Saturday lunchtime."

"Conference calls would suffice," Toby tried to argue.

"You wanna stay at the summit?" Leo asked in shock.

"Someone wants to stay with their girlfriend," Josh muttered under his breath, smirking at Sam.

"Sam can handle any changes," Leo continued, sighing. "Face to face meetings will elicit more positive responses."

Toby briefly met CJ's eyes as she walked into the room, "Fine, see you Saturday, Leo."

"You're going back?" CJ asked Josh as Toby hung up the phone.

"Yeah, Leo needs us. Toby's reluctant though."

"Why? Surely it'll boost their reaction in our favour."

"I know," he waved his hand airily.

"It's a serious issue, Tobus, you two need to be there."

"I am aware, Ceej."

"Good."

"Okay."

"Okay."

Friday saw the President engage in his first round of preliminary talks with the other leaders which left everyone else in demanding positions around the clock.

CJ was working on press conferences for a series of global news outlets, Henry and eventually Donna assisting her actions. It was imperative that her co-operation with the other countries' media provided the sufficient demonstrations of what was occurring at the meetings, but her special "G8" briefings had to run smoothly alongside Henry's typical White House briefings.

Toby was thrown into meetings with other leaders' staffers for a breakdown of overall message come Sunday. Given his Saturday departure, he was determined to progress as much as possible in the Friday meetings so that Sam would be in the best position for finishing up details afterwards.

Josh had spent a portion of the day conversing with Congressmen ahead of his return to DC; the rest staffing the President alongside Charlie once Jed realised he looked inferior to the leaders being staffed by a group. Leo at this point had considered asking him to stay but one phonecall with Jed about "rotating staffers" seemed like it would be the way forward.

Sam worked on writing remarks and editing language in the President's speeches and remarks. He'd had a lead role in the language more than ever this year as Toby focused on policy slightly more. After this was mostly done, he spent the late afternoon being briefed by Toby over his meetings. Sam was going to be taking over when Toby and Josh went back to DC so needed to be ready to slot right into where Toby left off. The plan was for him to send Sam anything via email if need be, so the pair's communication was crucial this weekend.

In all of this, Donna found herself surprised at how often she would watch CJ and consider her through Toby's eyes – he was so used to seeing his girlfriend address the nation, and in this case, other nations. It had to be an admirable feat to someone you loved.

Come the evening, everyone sat in the hotel bar discussing the progression of the day. The President had granted them dismissal from a group meeting, letting them choose a more personal route.

The 7 staffers, including Charlie and Henry, gathered around a pair of tables in one corner of the room.

"CJ, how many outfits were you wearing today?" Josh asked her, as she had taken on wardrobe changes several times throughout the day.

"3, Joshua," she told him, "It's only because of the timezones. A briefing this morning was at night-time in the UK so when I did one later on today, it would be morning for them. Can't have them thinking I don't own other clothes."

"You're not being serious?" Sam asked her.

"I am, Spanky. It was Carol's idea."

"And that's why we love Carol," Henry smirked, "I'm glad my changes only comprise a new tie though."

"You should've-" Toby started, about to comment on how empty her side of the closet had been when they left, "felt how heavy her case was getting into the car."

"I told you, you didn't have to carry it," she said pointedly.

"Yeah, well," he muttered, giving her a dark smile.

An hour later, Toby had gone up to the room to work and CJ remained downstairs with Donna, Josh, Henry and Sam.

Henry and CJ went to the bar together to get more drinks, "What you having, CJ?" he asked.

"Vodka and soda," she smiled and they waited for the bartender to make their drinks and the others'.

"Wait, that's a virgin," Henry noticed, the bartender only filling her drink with soda and ice.

"It's fine," CJ said quickly and took it along with another back to the table.

When she excused herself to go to the bathroom sometime later, Henry turned to the others.

"Donna, have a sip of CJ's drink would ya?" he said cautiously.

"Why?" she wondered anxiously.

"Tell me if it has alcohol in it."

"Doesn't seem like it," she commented, "Josh you try."

Josh sipped and agreed, "What's up, Henry?"

"She asked for a vodka and soda, but he didn't put vodka in it and then she said it was fine. Why would she do that? She did seem a bit shifty about me noticing when I commented to the bartender."

"Oh my god," Donna looked at Sam and Josh, who were on her level and near to it respectively.

"Do you think?" Sam asked, and Henry became confused at the glances they were all sharing.

CJ suddenly came back up and soon stopped any further comments, "I'm going to bed, night guys."

"Night CJ," they chorused back, Henry remaining oblivious as a series of questions ran through the minds of Josh, Sam and Donna and seeped into their collective facial expressions.
