Special Day
Today was nothing special after all. She had waited for him to show up, but he had more important things to do. Amy sat on a large rock and looked towards the sparkling waters of the nearby river, the sun leaving an orange reflection in it wiggling waves. It wasn't that she didn't know Sonic's work wasn't important; it was more that she was beginning to wonder about her own importance in his world. Fighting robots and saving the world was always the center of Sonic's world; especially if he looked cool while doing it.
She didn't even notice the lumbering footsteps of company until it was right behind her. She turned surprised to Big the Cat. The large tabby smiled brightly to the hedgehog girl, oblivious to her pain.
"Hi Amy!" He greeted slowly in his baritone voice. He stared at her a moment before it struck him that she had been crying. Slowly he put down his rod and tackle box and walked over, sitting next to her.
"Hi Big. I suppose you're out fishing." Amy asked as her eyes fell back to her knees. "Hi Froggy."
Big made a small uh sound, shifting a little closer before he removed the frog from his shoulder and onto his lap. "Why are you sad, Amy?"
She sighed. "It's nothing, Big. I was waiting for Sonic so we could go for a walk through the park. Eggman attacked a factory, so Tails called me and cancelled my date." She pressed herself against his large fluffy side and sighed again. "I'm used to it."
For a moment the two sat side by side and watched the sun set. Amy watched through tired, half lidded eyes and Big with his usual unblinking stare. They were silent for some time before Froggy croaked.
Then Big looked down to his small pink friend and sighed as well. "It's too bad there isn't a Sonic who can spend more time with you. I like when you're happy. You're the prettiest when you smile."
Amy couldn't help but smile at that. "Thanks Big, that means a lot." To her further surprise Big leaned down to her and left a quick kiss on her forehead. Her cheeks darkened slightly. "What was that for?"
"Cause you looked like you needed it." Big explained, bringing her into a one armed hug. "And 'cause you deserved it."
With a light laugh on her lips Amy stood up and hugged the sitting cat, rubbing her cheek into his chest fluff. "Oh Big; you just made my day special."
