A/N: Thank you to lemon-and-chai and to Kurayami-9 for your reviews. I love reading them. Fuji is onto something, but will the "team" get in his way? What about the others? Let's find out, shall we? Enjoy minna!
Chapter 11 – Lock Them Up
Before everyone left Atobe's mansion, the phone calls were made. Yukimura agreed to the meeting and agreed to bring Sanada since it would be a meeting of the minds for buchou and fukubuchou of the three main schools in the area. Surprisingly, the bluenette agreed without much coercion from the Hyotei captain, which made everyone except Atobe suspicious, but that was all they had to go on at the moment. It was the only plan they could come up with to quickly bring about their deaths… I mean, quickly bring the four people together with the right people.
Once that call was made, Yamato called Tezuka and Fuji and informed them that there was going to be a practice match against Hyotei the next day followed by a team meeting. He knew the plan didn't include the matches, but it would look suspicious if he called a meeting and then took them to Atobe's residence without a reason. The stoic bespectacled teen agreed without argument; however, Fuji took a little more convincing. After what felt like a thirty minute conversation (it was only about 15 minutes) of talking around in circles, the blue eyed tensai finally agreed to attend the practice matches. Really Fuji could create confusion and torture someone even over the phone; even the patient and soft spoken Yamato had started to be affected.
Finally everything was arranged. Yamato was going to meet Fuji, Tezuka, Eiji, and Inui at Seigaku High School. From there they would go to Atobe's house together where everyone else would be lying in wait. The Hyotei team would greet them along with Sanada and Yukimura. The Seigaku members would arrive thirty minutes before the scheduled meeting time with the Rikkai Dai members and from there, everyone just hoped the four teens could work it out… and that the rest of them survived.
The next day, Yukimura arrived at Sanada's house to pick him up so that they could walk to the train station together. There was an almost strangled silence between them as they made their way through the streets that would lead them to the train and then their ultimate destination at Atobe's house, and today for some reason, it really bothered the bluenette, "Ne Genichiro, is everything alright?"
"Hai," came the short reply. In reality Sanada was a little unnerved. The meeting came out of nowhere and he had planned to spend his entire weekend away from everyone and everything so that he could make some hard decisions about the relationships in his life. Now the person that he had the strongest feelings for was walking beside him and he had to sit through a tennis meeting with him and others… and that may or may not include Tezuka. This was not good.
"I noticed you brought your tennis bag. Were you planning on finding Fuji and playing a game?"
Shaking his head, the raven haired man answered, "Habit. Fuji is busy this weekend. Were you going to try to play Tezuka?"
Yukimura laughed, "No, as you said it is habit. Go to a tennis function and bring the tennis bag."
"Ah."
The deathly silence descended upon them once again, and the bluenette didn't like it. There was a time when they would talk to each other more than anyone else. They depended on each other and were best friends, but now things were different and he didn't like it. He was willing to take responsibility, or at least part of it, but he didn't think that Sanada would start dating the tensai of Seigaku as soon as his back was turned around. Forcing himself to calm down, he wanted chasm that developed between them to be gone. Maybe, just maybe, pretending to date Tezuka had not been the best idea; however, it was fun to hear Tezuka squirm and to see the way it seemed to bother Sanada. Oh the normal person wouldn't be able to see the miniscule changes in the stoic man, but Yukimura could see them. That being said, maybe it was time to drop the farce… maybe, "Genichiro, do you love Fuji?"
"I like and care about him."
"That isn't what I asked," the bluenette stated with a large grin upon his face seeing how uncomfortable he was making his friend, but that wasn't going to stop him.
"Ah."
"Do you love Fuji?"
There was a long pause before Sanada finally answered, "No, I don't love him."
"Then dump him." It wasn't a request; it was an order.
Stopping, the stoic man turned to his friend and crossed his arms over his chest before stating simply, "That is not your call to make." Why was the bluenette doing this to him? It wasn't that he was confused about his feelings, but he was thoroughly bewildered about Yukimura's feelings for him… and well the bluenette's feelings towards everything else in his life besides tennis. There was no mistake about how the Rikkai Dai buchou felt about tennis; now if only his feelings for the fukubuchou were as cut and dry and clear.
Yukimura giggled and his smile clearly stated, "Oh but it is and you need to listen to me." When they got to the station, he said, "You said it yourself, you don't love him."
Sanada almost felt like he would get more information by plucking the petals off of a daisy than asking, but he questioned the bluenette anyway, "Most relationships don't start out as love. They grow into it. Why does it matter to you?"
"Because you don't love him, you love me."
Ah, there it was the crux of the problem. It was true and the raven haired teen could not deny it, however, it was also still apparent that Yukimura did not return those feelings. Sometimes he felt like the bluenette did, but most of the time… nothing. The train approached and just as they boarded, Sanada said, "It will eventually go away and I will love someone else."
The fact that Yukimura was able to keep his smile plastered on his face when slapped in the face with that remark was a testament to how long he had been smiling through the pain; first through adversity of winning nationals and then with his disease, and now this. He kept smiling even when it hurt sometimes; and when it was too much to bear, he turned his closest friends away. It was in that moment he realized how much one decision and a few spoken words could create a monstrous domino effect. When the last piece fell would Sanada be in his arms, or remain with Fuji? He just didn't know any longer.
The train ride into the city remained devoid of any further conversation. Both of them had questions to ask and words to speak, but neither wanted to say anything to further incite the other. Nothing else was spoken until they reached Atobe's house.
Fuji and Tezuka met up at the school as agreed; however, they refused to look at each other. Both thought it was strange that they were having practice matches with Hyotei on a Sunday, but when it came to their buchou, they learned back in middle school that it was best not to question him; and if they noticed that they were missing some of their regulars, they chose not to comment on that either. At least they weren't alone.
However, Fuji could not resist toying with a certain dataman, "Ne, Inui, did you gather a lot of good data yesterday?"
Adjusting his glasses, Inui nodded, "I did."
"Saa, Inui, I think you and I should have a private conversation one day soon. I have a few things about cacti that I would love to share with you, very interesting data indeed."
If this was anyone else, the bespectacled teen knew that it would have been an innocent invitation, but this was Fuji Syusuke, resident sadist and tennis tensai, and that invitation was anything but innocent. It was menacing and a threat… even if the shorter teen was smiling brightly and acted like all was right with the world. "I am sure that it would provide a lot of data, but I don't think…" he began before being interrupted.
Opening his eyes wide, smile growing, Fuji exclaimed, "I don't think you want to turn this down, do you?"
"No, I don't believe that would be a wise choice," Inui gulped afraid for his life.
Eiji knew it. He really needed to go shopping for dark clothes for the funeral. "Fujiko, can I come too? Nya," the acrobatic player asked as he glomped his best friend and acted like he didn't know what was going on.
"Saa, you can come over another day, Eiji," the tensai patted the arms wrapped around his shoulders and chuckled. His best friend was always so rambunctious, but he had a feeling the redhead knew more than he was saying… his Fuji senses were tingling. They worked outside of tennis too.
The rest of the trip was filled with the back and forth conversations between Fuji and Eiji since nobody else seemed like they wanted to converse. Well Yamato would join in periodically and cause the others to snicker, but mainly it was the tensai and the acrobat; one of which had no clue what was about to befall him or one of the other players.
When they arrived at the Atobe estate, they were greeted by everyone that was on the middle school Hyotei team. Tezuka narrowed his eyes on the other team's buchou and declared, "We don't have enough players."
"Ahn, but not everyone from Ore-sama's team is playing, so the number you have brought should be plenty. It isn't like you will win anyway. The winner will be Hyotei," Atobe replied confidently.
"Atobe, the other thing…" Oshitari commented as he pushed up his glasses.
Grinning, the heir snapped his fingers and tennis players from Hyotei, Rikkai Dai, and even Yuuta appeared and surrounded Tezuka and Fuji. Atobe laughed, "If you will wait in there, Ore-sama and the others will be with you… momentarily." Another snap of the fingers and the two hostages were pushed into a room and it was locked. Neither teen would be able to get out of the room, "The windows are locked and bulletproof, so you cannot get out that way. There is a letter to each of you on the desk. Ore-sama took great pains to coordinate everything, please do not waste his hospitality."
"Aniki is going to kill us. Did you see the look on his face?" Yuuta groaned. Although he agreed with the plan and he knew that his brother was with the wrong person, he also knew how sadistic the elder Fuji could be and he also knew how much the other teen loved his revenge. Oh well, too late now, and at least he could claim he was trying to help his sibling out of love.
"Nya, nope. You will be safe, it is the rest of us that have to worry," Eiji laughed and crossed his fingers that this worked. If it did, they may all be saved from the rapture of Fuji.
Inside the room Fuji and Tezuka had looked for another way out, but found they were truly trapped. They tried banging on the door; however, no one came to their rescue. Finally, they went to the desk and found the letters located there and found two more with Sanada and Yukimura's names on them. What were their friends doing? Opening the letters, they realized what this was… a set up to get them to admit their feelings. Did they really thing this was going to work?
Quickly reading his letter, Tezuka pinched the bridge of his nose. Their friends were ordering them to confess to each other, and amazingly enough four different schools were in on the plan and cooperating with each other. He really needed some aspirin.
Fuji felt like he should have known something like this was going to happen. There were too many odd things about today and now he was locked in a room with no escape with the one man he was in love with; and he was holding a letter demanding that he re-confess to Tezuka and break off his relationship with Sanada, and they were not going to get out until that happened. His sweet little brother was even in on this. How did they coerce Yuuta to join them? Exchanging letters with Tezuka, he could see that the bespectacled teen had been given the same directive. "What do you think?"
"I think that since there are two more letters here, at some point in time that door will open and we should be able to push our way out," Tezuka answered.
"How? They took our tennis bags."
"There are plenty of things we can use in here, and we could just rush them at the same time. It will be harder to hold both of us back than it would be one of us."
Unbeknownst to the prisoners, the others were watching and listening in on everything happening in the room on a security monitor that Atobe had installed specifically for this event. The gaggle of tennis players knew what the two Seigaku players were plotting.
Not long after that the arrival of Yukimura and Sanada was announced. Yamato, Atobe, and Oshitari went to greet the new guests and as soon as the signal was given, the two Rikkai Dai tennis players were surrounded. The bluenette narrowed his eyes on one of the players, "Renji, what did I say about meddling?"
"Ahn, Ore-sama has arranged something special for you and this is the thanks Ore-sama gets?" Atobe smirked as he snapped his fingers and immediately the door was unlocked. Knowing what was going to happen, everyone made sure that Sanada and Yukimura were in front as they pushed them through the door and had it closed and locked again before anyone could get out. However, the Hyotei buchou cringed when he heard something shatter and then a loud thud.
"Hmm, you took everything priceless out of that room, didn't you?" Oshitari inquired grinning.
Sighing, Atobe answered, "Everything that couldn't be replaced."
The Hyotei players started to laugh, but the other teams looked at them like they had lost it. Finally Shishido declared, "He was a dumbass. Just because it can be replaced, doesn't mean that it wasn't expensive or that he didn't like certain items."
"Ahn, be careful what you say about Ore-sama," Atobe glared at his team.
Back inside the room Fuji was holding a piece of ceramic and gaping down at the floor. When they couldn't get out, he grabbed a vase and swung it believing it would be threatening enough that the other players would back off. He didn't expect to hit his boyfriend, break the vase, and knock his boyfriend out. Lying at his feet was an unconscious Sanada, "I hit the wrong person. They are so going to pay for this!"
