Marley and I arrived at school once again. I've been kind of charitable to her, but even I don't have two thousand dollars just lying around the house to fix a car.

"So how's it going with Jake?" I asked her.

"It's going good." She replied. That was the stock answer.

"So how have things been going in the love department?" I questioned, hoping that she would see the hidden meaning of what I saying.

"I don't know what you mean." She declared.

"Have you two fucked yet?" I asked her bluntly. "Or had sex or made love or whatever."

"No, I don't know if I'm ready." Marley replied.

"Well, you don't have to listen to me, but I think you should, with protection of course." I stated. "Sometimes the moment just happens and you shouldn't have to wait as long as you're prepared. It feels great. I think one reason that you're hesitant is because Jake isn't a virgin and you're afraid of feeling inferior. Anyway, I'm just gonna sing the song I had prepared for this."

Let's drop

I'll take you home if you don't leave me at the front door
Your body's cold but boy we're getting so warm
And I was thinking of ways that I could get inside

Tonight you're falling in love (let me go now)
This feeling's tearing me up (here we go now)

You if he does it like this, will you do it like that?
Now if he touches like this, will you touch him right back?
Now if he moves like this, will you move it like that?
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it

I saw you dancing and I couldn't get you off my mind
I could tell that you could that I was taking my time
And I was thinking of ways to keep you staying alive
Your body's shaking, turn me on so I can turn off the lights

You if he does it like this, will you do it like that?
Now if he touches like this, will you touch him right back?
Now if he moves like this, will you move it like that?
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it
Shake, shake, shake, shake, shake it

"I don't think that makes me want to do it more." Marley admitted. "That's the song by Miley's brother, isn't it?"

"He's one of the singers, yes." I answered. "Just know that once you get the first time out of the way, there's a lot less pressure on the every other time."

After school, we went into Glee. I had no idea what Mr. Schue was planning for today. I really am starting to think that he makes these up as he goes. I did know that Regionals was only a week away and we needed to pick our songs for the performance.

So, I was a little confused when he wrote One-Hit Wonders on the board.

"One-Hit Wonders. These are the people that aren't big stars, but they still have one song to remember them by. Now I know that the term is a bit loose so I'm setting the ground rules. I want every song this week to be by an artist that only has had one song in Billboard's top 40. Examples of popular 'one-hit wonders' who are excluded under this rule are Billy Ray Cyrus who had a top 40 hit sixteen years after 'Achy Breaky Heart' and Vanilla Ice, who also reached the top ten with his cover of real wonder's 'Play That Funky Music'."

"Okay, I have one." Sam declared. "This is by Tom Cochrane."

Life's like a road that you travel on
When there's one day here and the next day gone
Sometimes you bend, sometimes you stand
Sometimes you turn your back to the wind
There's a world outside the darkened door
Where blues won't haunt you anymore
Where the brave are free and lovers soar
Come ride with me to the distant shore

We won't hesitate, break down the garden gate
There's not much time left today

Life is a highway I wanna ride it all night long
If you're going my way I wanna drive it all night long
Life is a highway I wanna ride it all night long
If you're going my way I wanna drive it all night long

There was a distance between you and I
A misunderstanding once but now we it look in the eye

There aint no load that I can't hold
Road so rough, this I know
I'll be there when the light comes in
Tell em we're survivors

Life is a highway I wanna ride it all night long
If you're going my way I wanna drive it all night long
Life is a highway I wanna ride it all night long
If you're going my way I wanna drive it all night long
Life is a highway I wanna ride it all night long
If you're going my way I wanna drive it all night long

"That was great, Sam." Mr. Schue declared. "Does anyone else want to go right now?"

"Mr. Schue I have something that I want to say." I told him. "Marley and I were talking the other day and she thinks that we should perform an original song. Do you think we can do it?"

"Well as our group from two years ago found out, songwriting isn't easy, but if you want to try it, you can and we'll prepare a backup number in case it doesn't work out." He agreed.

I went to Sam's apartment with him after everything was over. I began to look for a pen and paper.

"So you want to write your own song?" He questioned. "Santana wrote a song about me, and it was kind of embarrassing."

"What was it called?" I asked curiously.

"Trouty Mouth." He declared with a blush.

"I'm gonna take a shot in the dark and say that it wasn't a good song." I stated. "Anyway, yes I want to write my own songs. All of the good singers write their own songs and if I'm going to make a career out of this, I need to know how to do this. So do you have any paper that I can use?"

I sat on his bed for an hour with a pen in my hand and a blank sheet of paper, but I realized that I didn't have anything. Songwriting was hard. I thought I would just be able to write some stuff down, but getting into the process wasn't easy. I stared at it as Sam looked over my shoulder.

"You know you're making it kind of hard for me to concentrate." I admitted.

"Well good songs generally come from emotions that people are feeling." He pointed out. "I think you need to listen to your heart and see what comes out."

"That's it." I declared.

"You found out what you're going to write about?" He guessed. No.

"No, I figured out what I'm going to sing this week though." I admitted.

The next day after not getting any words down, I sat down at the piano in the choir room and began to play.

I know there's something in the wake of your smile
I get a notion from the look in your eyes (yeah)
You've built a love but that love falls apart
A little piece of heaven turns to dark

Listen to your heart when he's calling for you
Listen to your heart there's nothing else you can do
I don't know where you're going and I don't know why
But listen to your heart before you tell him goodbye

And there are voices that want to be heard
So much to mention, but you can't find the words
The scent of magic, the beauty that's been
When love was wilder than the wind

Listen to your heart when he's calling for you
Listen to your heart there's nothing else you can do
I don't know where you're going and I don't know why
But listen to your heart before you tell him goodbye

"Roxette is not a one-hit wonder, Charlie." Mr. Schue told me.

"But European dance group DHT is." I countered. "In 2003 their cover reached #8."

"Okay, I'm glad that you've done your research." He applauded me.

From there, I decided to see how Marley was doing with her songwriting/love life. Maybe she could write a song about her first time…although that's probably not something that we'd want to perform.

"So how's it going?" I questioned.

"I don't know about it." Marley admitted. "I'm too normal for this. As soon as we do this, Jake is going to move on with a prettier girl and leave me. That's why I want to put it off."

At that point, I handed her my iPod.

"You need to listen to this song." I told her. "I think it's about a lot of what you're feeling and it'll help you feel better."

The next day, she was singing the song in class.

Small town homecoming queen
She's the star of the scene there's no way to deny she's lovely
Perfect skin, perfect hair, perfumes hearts everywhere
Tell myself that inside she's ugly

Maybe I'm just jealous I can't help but hate her
Secretly I wonder if my boyfriend wants to date her

She's the prom queen, I'm in the marching band
She's the cheerleader, I'm sitting in the stands
She gets the top bunk, I'm sleeping on the floor
She's Miss America and I'm just the girl next door
Oh I'm just the girl next door

I don't know why I'm feeling sorry for myself
I spend all time wishing that I was someone else

She's the prom queen, I'm in the marching band
She's the cheerleader, I'm sitting in the stands
I get a little bit, she gets a little more
She's Miss America
She's Miss America
And I'm the just the girl next door

I'm just the girl, I'm just the girl next door
I'm just the girl, I'm just the girl next door
I'm just the girl next door

She then decided to talk to me again afterwards. I was giving her a ride home today.

"That song was perfect for me." She declared. "I decided to cave in and let him do it. I guess I don't have anything to be afraid of."

"How'd it go?" I asked curiously.

"It went okay." She answered. "It was kind of awkward and a little bit uncomfortable at first, but once I got over it all, I liked it. It was amazing. I had no idea that it would feel that good and he even told me that he loved me and he wasn't just going to dump me now that we've done this."

"I told you that it would be great." I reminded her.

"I am a little worried that I should have waited a little longer." Marley told me.

"I don't think that early sex is what wrecks relationships." I opined. "I think it's the fact that people don't really know each other before they have sex and that's not a problem for us. We've both been dating these guys for months. This is a great thing Marley and like I said the next time that you do it, it'll be so much better."

"So do you ever think about our future?" Marley questioned. "I mean where are we going to be in two years?"

"I know Sam is hoping that we're still together when I graduate and then we can go to college together." I admitted. "I don't think that we should plan for the future too much. I think we should just focus on Regionals."

The final day of the week, we were prepared for a performance from Artie, Blaine, and Ryder. I heard the music start. Oh my god they're playing a Jonas Brothers song. This is my Disney-fied childhood. It couldn't help but wonder why they were singing it because the Jonas Brothers weren't a one-hit wonder.

I'm hot you're cold
You go around like you know
Who I am but you don't
You've got me on my toes

I'm slipping into the lava
And I'm trying to keep from going under
Baby you turn the temperate higher
Cause I'm burning up burning up for you baby

Walk into the room all I can see is you
Staring me down I know you feel it too

At that point Jake came in and started rapping. Oh yeah, this is the one-hit wonder part.

Yo we're burning up in this place tonight
Your brothers singing loud
(and we're feeling right)
Get up and dance don't try to fight it
J Puck's for real
(and that's no lie)
Stop drop and roll (and touch the floor)
To keep from burning up
(More and more)
I got ND with me laying it down
Come on boys let's bring the chorus around

I'm slipping into the lava
And I'm trying to keep from going under
Baby you turn the temperate higher
Cause I'm burning up burning up for you baby
Burning up, burning up for you baby

Okay so that was hot. What is it about boybands that always get me so hot and bothered? I mean technically the Jonas Brothers aren't a boyband, but they have the boyband looks. I knew what I had to do. I needed to go home and right this song. I wanted to do this. I could do this. I will do this. I don't know how, but I'm going to do it. I'm going to write an awesome song to perform at Regionals and we are going to win.

So the big news in this chapter actually involves Marley and Jake doing it for the first time. This was mostly to just set up for the Regionals episode. I've already got the songs for Regionals picked out. The songs in this chapter are "Shake It" by Metro Station, "Life Is A Highway" by Tom Cochrane, "Listen to Your Heart by DHT, "Girl Next Door" by Saving Jane, and "Burnin Up" by the Jonas Brothers featuring Big Rob. Please don't forget to review.
