We were in the choir room. Marley was performing her song that she wrote on the guitar. We were going to be hosting Regionals because of some problems in Indianapolis.
Well you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
And you let her go
Staring at the bottom of your glass
Hoping one day you'll make a dream last
But dreams come slow and they go so fast
You see her when you close your eyes
Maybe one day you'll understand why
Everything you touch surely dies
But you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
And you let her go
Oh oh oh no
And you let her go
Oh oh oh no
Well you let her go
'Cause you only need the light when it's burning low
Only miss the sun when it starts to snow
Only know you love her when you let her go
Only know you've been high when you're feeling low
Only hate the road when you're missing home
Only know you love her when you let her go
"I don't think that song is right for Regionals, Marley." Mr. Schue declared. "Charlie, you said you were writing something?"
"It's not done yet." I responded. I really didn't even have much at all to be honest. I had no idea what I was going to write about. I don't know if I would be able to do it.
After we were done, Marley came to me wanting my personal feedback on the song.
"So what did you think of it?" She asked me.
"I didn't like it." I admitted. "I want to be honest and I don't really think it was it all that good. I think for a first time writer, it's not that bad, but I don't think that something like that could ever make it on the radio. It's like a hair metal ballad, except it doesn't really make me feel anything."
"Well, thanks for not sugarcoating it." She declared.
"Hey, not everyone can write songs." I told him. "I'm still trying to figure out if I can, even though I have a lot to do. Finn and Lucy are getting married after the competition and the guest list isn't fully put together. I'm a little stressed out."
"Hey, you can do this." She replied. "You're going to look beautiful as a maid of honor."
"Am I dating you or Sam?" I quipped playfully. "I should go see him right now."
Sam and I went to my house together. He was going to try to help me work on the song.
"So I had a few notes in my head the other day." I stated as I sat in front of my piano. I began to play from memory over and over again before I hit my hands on the keyboard and ruffled my hair. "Ugh, this is all wrong!"
"That last one sounded great." Sam told me. "That is what you need to use for your song. Do you have any words for it because I'd love to hear them?"
"I think you need to leave." I told him.
"Did I say something wrong?" He asked me in surprise and confusion.
"No, it's just I want to work on this alone. I know what I'm going to write, but I want to surprise you with it at Regionals." I explained to him. I gave him a kiss before I shoved him out the door and began to write. I hoped that this would turn out good.
The next day, I heard a lot of whispering as I entered the school. I received a text from Marley telling me to come to the choir room immediately.
"What's going on?" I asked as I looked around the room. Everyone was there except Brittany.
"Brittany got an early admission to MIT." Mr. Schue explained. "We're now one member short of the minimum that we need for Regionals."
"Well then we'll find someone else." I suggested. "I mean there has to be someone else that can replace her."
"I don't know if we can find anyone else in such a short amount of time." Mr. Schue replied. That was when I was hit with the idea. That would definitely work.
"Ryder, I need you to get Katie to come here now." I instructed him. "We have our ace in the hole."
Katie came down to the choir room, wondering why Ryder had called her there.
"Why did you call me here?" Katie asked as her boyfriend as she looked around the room at all of us.
"I told him to." I answered. "Katie, we need your help. We're one member short of the minimum for Regionals and we need you to step in."
"I can't." Katie argued. "I've never sang in front of anyone except when I didn't know that you were watching."
"Katie, please." I begged her. "You don't even have to sing if you don't want to. You can just dance in the background and sing backup."
"Can I have extra credit in History?" Katie bargained to Mr. Schue.
"Absolutely." He told her. "So then I have a set list. We're going to be singing Kelly Clarkson's 'People Like Us' followed by Justin Timberlake's 'Mirrors'. Charlie did you get a chance to finish your song?"
"Yes, I did." I replied. "Do you want it to be the closing number? I can't play it for you because I want it to be a surprise."
"This is a big gamble that you're taking." Mr. Schue told me. "Are you sure that you can handle the pressure of it?"
"Yes, I can." I promised. "I know I can do this. I also want to thank you all for RSVP'ing to my sister's wedding."
"So do I." Lucy replied as she walked into the room. "Do you mind if I talk to you for a moment, Mr. Schue? I have something I need to ask you."
I had to wait until after school to find out what the conversation was. I went to my sisters' apartment.
"So what was that about?" I questioned.
"I asked Mr. Schue if he would give me away." She explained. "He's the closest thing to a father that I have, even before Dad died."
"What did he say?" I asked curiously.
"He said yes." She answered.
"So I thought he was going to be Finn's best man." I remarked.
"No, Puck is going to be the best man." She explained. "I want this to be great. Do you think that you could sing something for us during the reception? I only want song, but if you can't, I'll find someone."
"No, I can do it." I promised her. "I might not end up picking the song until after Regionals, though. So do you want to hear the song that I wrote for Sam?"
"Sure." She replied before I played it for. "Wow, that's really romantic."
"I hope that he and the crowd like it as much as you do. I'm performing it at Regionals." I stated.
When the competition started, we were going to be competing against this all male group and this group from Indiana called the Hoosierdaddies. The judges were a warden, football coach and circus performer. I had heard good things about both of them, although the first one seemed like called of a dud. I thought they were supposed to be good.
Next the Hoosierdaddies took the stage. I had definitely heard a lot about their lead singer, Frida Romero. I noticed some familiar music began to play. I love this song.
I dive into frozen waves where the past comes back to life
Fight fear for the selfish pain it was worth it every time
Hold still right before we crash cause we both know how this ends
A clock ticks till it breaks your glass and I drown in you again
Cause you are the piece of me I wish I didn't need
Changing relentlessly still fine and I don't why
If all love is tragedy why are you my remedy?
If all love's insanity why are you my clarity?
If all love is tragedy why are you my remedy?
If all love's insanity why are you my clarity?
Why are you my clarity?
Why are you my remedy?
Why are you my clarity?
Why are you my remedy?
If all love is tragedy why are you my remedy?
If all love's insanity why are you my clarity?
We were doing two separate numbers. We were singing first. We were all wearing purple dresses. Marley and Katie would be singing the lead. I was surprised that she was willing to do it. I thought this song was a great metaphor for the Glee Club. I started with the spoken word intro
We come into this world unknown
But know that we are not alone
That you can't knock us down
The change is coming it's our time now
Hey everybody loses it everybody wants to throw it all away sometimes
And hey yeah I know what you're going through don't let it get the best of you
You'll make it out alive
Oh people like us we gotta stick together
Keep your head up nothing lasts forever
Here's to the damned to the lost and forgotten
It's hard to get high when you're living on the bottom
Oh, oh, oh we are all misfits living in a world on fire
Oh, oh, oh Singing for the people like us, the people like us
Oh, oh, oh you just gotta turn it up loud when the flames get higher
Oh, oh, oh, singing for the people like us, the people like us
They can't do nothing to you
They can't do nothing to me
This is the life we choose
This is the life that we lead
So throw your fists in the air
Come out, come out if you dare
Tonight we're gonna change forever
Everybody loses it
Everybody wants to throw it all away sometimes
Oh people like us we gotta stick together
Keep your head up nothing lasts forever
Here's to the damned to the lost and forgotten
It's hard to get high when you're living on the bottom
Oh, oh, oh we are all misfits living in a world on fire
Oh, oh, oh Singing for the people like us, the people like us
Oh, oh, oh you just gotta turn it up loud when the flames get higher
Oh, oh, oh, singing for the people like us, the people like us
The next song began all of the guys were going to be singing on this.
Aren't you something to admire cause shine is something like a mirror
And I can't help but notice you reflect in this heart of mine
If you ever feel alone and the glare makes me hard to find
Just know that I'm always parallel on the other side
Cause with your hand in my hand and a pocket of soul
I can tell you there's no place we couldn't go
Just put your hand on the glass I'll be trying to pull you through
You just got be strong
Cause I don't wanna lose you now, I'm looking right at the other half of me
The vacancy that sat in my heart is now a space that you hold
Show me how to fight for now and I tell you baby it was easy
Coming back into you once I figured it out, you were right here all along
It's like your my mirror my mirror staring back at me
I couldn't get any bigger with anyone else beside of me
And now it's clear as this promise that we're making two reflections into one
Cause it's like you're my mirror my mirror staring back at me, staring back at me
Cause I don't wanna lose you now, I'm looking right at the other half of me
The vacancy that sat in my heart is now a space that you hold
Show me how to fight for now and I tell you baby it was easy
Coming back into you once I figured it out, you were right here all along
It's like your my mirror my mirror staring back at me
I couldn't get any bigger with anyone else beside of me
And now it's clear as this promise that we're making two reflections into one
Cause it's like you're my mirror my mirror staring back at me, staring back at me
After that song, we moved the piano out onto the stage and I took a seat. It was my moment and I had my chance now. I began to play the notes.
Maybe one day I'll just let it all go
Let every shade of my true colors show
Keep loving me and I'll lose control eventually
Never wanna be, never wanna be that girl
With a million needs that keeps running world
Boy do you lie when you say I like good tonight
I see a mess in the mirror, but you see the girl of your dreams
I see the dark clouds rolling in, but you see the sky I can't see
I hear this melody coming out all wrong
But you hear a song
You hear a song, a one note symphony
Baby come on and sing it back to me
I see a mess in the mirror, but you see the girl of your dreams
I see the dark clouds rolling in, but you see the sky I can't see
I hear this melody coming out all wrong
It sounds like the chaos I hear my head all night long
But you hear a song
You hear a song
You hear a song
I took a bow and then the rest of the club took one with me. As soon as we were off stage, Sam kissed me.
We ended up being announced the winners. Now we had one more step to go to see if we could repeat as National champions.
The next day, we were at a church. I was standing with Frannie, Rachel, and Santana as a bridesmaid while Finn was up front with Kurt, Puck, Sam, Mike, and Artie. The march began to play and Lucy began to walk down the aisle in her dress with Mr. Schue at her side.
"Today we are here to join Finn Christopher Hudson and Lucy Quinn Fabray in Holy Matrimony…" The minister started.
At the reception, I began to sing the song that I had chosen.
If I could find assurance to leave you behind
I know my better half will fade
And all my doubt is a staircase for you
Up and out of this space
The first step is the one you believe in
The second one might be profound
I'd follow you down to the eye of the storm
Don't worry I'll keep you warm
I'll follow you down while we're passing through space
I don't care if we fall from grace
I'll follow you down
I'll follow you down to where forever lies
Without a doubt I'm on your side
There's nowhere else that I'd rather be
I'm not about to compromise
Give you up to say goodbye
I'll guide through the deep
Keep you close to me
I'd follow you down to the eye of the storm
Don't worry I'll keep you warm
I'll follow you down while we're passing through space
I don't care if we fall from grace
I'll follow you
If I could find assurance to leave you behind
I know my better half would fade
I'll follow you down
It turned out that during the reception, Mr. Schue got the minister marry him to Ms. Pillsbury. Things were looking up.
End of Season Four
So Katie came in to replace Brittany and she'll be more important in the upcoming story. There will be a new story for Season 5, but there will be a major overhaul. For starters it will be historically accurate, so no song that came out after Spring 2013 will appear unless it's as an original song. So the other songs in this chapter are "Let Her Go" by Passenger (which I loathe), "You Hear A Song" by Cassadee Pope and "I'll Follow You" by Shinedown. Thank you for reading and don't forget to review.
