Talin awoke in the middle of the night to the slight throb in the air around her. Stupid Thor wanted to come visit her again. She sighed. Of course he wouldn't understand the time differences. Stretching, she got up and went to the front door, opening it. She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths. A moment later Thor stumbled into the sand in front of her, looking bewildered as always. His face amused her as he looked around, unable to see her or the house.

"Over here." She said sleepily, suppressing a yawn.

He carefully made his way to the house, holding his hands in front of him. Once he got inside, he turned to her with a huge smile.

"What?" She asked, taken aback by his goofy grin.

He continued to smile as he pulled a bag loose from his belt, and handed it to her. She felt something the moment she touched it. Warmth... love... Talin gasped at the overwhelming sensations that moved through her. It must be from her father, somehow.

"I thought you said his powers were blocked?" She asked, glaring at Thor.

"Well, mostly. He has a tiny bit he can use. No more than moving small objects, making light... Whatever he did to that bag, it took him a lot of effort." Thor said quietly, remembering.

Loki had asked Thor to retrieve the bag from a hidden location. Loki had been saving this for a special occasion, and since he couldn't be there for his beloved daughter's birthday, this was as good a time as any. Once the bag was brought to him, Loki had placed his hands on it. Thor had watched with growing worry as Loki's pale hands began to shake, and his brow furrowed as he concentrated. As the minutes passed the shaking grew worse and Loki began to sweat. Then, he stopped, gasping for breath.

"There. Give that to Talin when you go. It's her birthday today, Thor. Give her a hug for me?" Loki had asked between breaths, a small smile forming on his lips.

Talin eyed Thor suspiciously for a moment before she opened the bag and reached inside. The inside of the bag was incredibly soft. At the bottom, her fingers brushed against something cold and metallic. Grasping it, she pulled out a long silver chain. At the end was an incredible jewel. It was a dark indigo-like color, with hundreds of tiny diamonds throughout the entire gem. Talin looked closer and gasped. It was as if Loki had somehow captured the entire universe inside. Stars, galaxies, the faint glow of the worlds Loki had taught her about. Glowing brightest was Asgard.

Talin searched the bag again, knowing her father would have left her a note.

"Happy 23rd Birthday darling. I would give anything to be there with you. I made this necklace for you a long time ago. It holds the entire universe. You can use your magic to look through it, like a map, and look upon all the worlds and stars. Wherever it glows brightest is where I am, so you'll always know where I am. I love you so much, Talin. Happy Birthday."

She glanced up at Thor, who was captivated by the glowing jewel. He met her gaze and smiled warmly, then suddenly threw his arms open wide and scooped her up into a lung crushing hug. She laughed, then smiled as she felt her own father's hug. Poor Thor was a hug carrier. She laughed more at the thought as he put her down.

"Happy date of birth!" Thor said awkwardly, clearly not sure what it exactly meant.

After all, immortals didn't have much need to keep track of birthdays. It was an Earth thing, but it was also dear to Loki, who celebrated every day his daughter was alive and well.

Thor was still smiling like an idiot.

"Yes?" Talin asked, wondering what else he had in store for her.

"I was given specific orders by your father to take you wherever you want to go."

"You mean I get to drag you along as I go wherever I want?"

"Uh... yes, I suppose that's what he meant." Thor said, scratching at his head.

Talin sighed, shaking her head.

"Alrighty then. We need to get you into some normal clothing." Talin said, eyeing his flashy outfit.

A second later and Thor was in a T-shirt and jeans with converse sneakers. Thor stared down at himself, then laughed.

"What a wonderful gift you have!" He said loudly.

He then looked expectantly at her.

"Must we go right this second Thor? I want to shower first, wake up, you know? It is the middle of the night." Talin said dryly.

"Ah, right. Well then, I'll just sit here and wait." Thor announced, sitting down on her couch.

"Right. Here." Talin said, and tossed the TV remote at him.

"What does this do?" He asked, staring at it.

"Right, you don't really know about TV do you? Ok, hold still." Talin said humorously.

She placed a finger on Thor's temple, giving him the simple instructions on how to work the remote and TV. Save herself some time and frustration.

"Ohhhh. Fascinating!" Thor burst out, and thus began channel surfing.

It could keep him amused for hours. Talin grabbed some clean clothes and a towel and went into the bathroom, making sure to lock the door behind her. She glanced at the jewel that hung down just between her breasts, and lifted it to eye level. She carefully pushed her magic into it, and suddenly everything was spinning out of focus. It might take her some time to figure out how to use it. She slowed down her flow of magic to a mere trickle, and smiled when she saw the pulsing glow of Asgard.

"Thank you daddy." Talin whispered into the gem, kissing it.
