Ch. 16. Going home.
Becca.
"It'll be okay." Natalie soothed as she hugged me. We were in the airport, waiting for the planes to be ready to go.
She and Taylor's brothers were heading home while Phi, Alice, Taylor and I were going back to Timmins.
"That's what Alice keeps telling me." I said with a small laugh.
"Then listen to her, and quit worrying. I know you wouldn't let him come if you felt it wouldn't be safe for him." she continues.
"Alright. I'll text you when we land and let you know how it goes." I respond, as they gather their luggage. Their flight had been called.
On the plane.
Taylor.
I'm starting to feel nervous as the plane lands at the airfield. I've met Carlisle, Becca's father many times. When she told me he didn't know the whole truth, I was surprised. But then again I know how protective Becca gets of me. She and Caius both. In any other circumstance I'd protest being treated like a child.
However in Becca's world, where humans are regarded as cattle, I'll let her do all the protecting she wants.
Felix met us at the airfield in Becca's Mercedes SUV.
"Good to see you again, Taylor." he says, after greeting the others.
"Nice to see you too Felix." I reply, climbing in the passenger seat as Becca starts the car. Felix and I are surprisingly good friends, though it's been a few years since I've seen him last.
"Ready?" Becca asks me.
"Sure am." I tell her, taking the hand that's not holding the steering wheel.
At the house.
Bella.
Becca texted me and Rose and asked us to clear all the guys save Carlisle from the house.
"Wonder what Becca's surprise is?" Rose asked. I shrugged. I had a feeling it had something to do with the video I saw on her phone last week.
"We are about to find out." I tell Rose as I hear a car pulling up. I count two heartbeats.
"She's got humans' with her." Rose says, as she hears what I do.
"Home sweet home guys." Becca's voice floats to us from outside as I hear car doors open and close.
"It's gorgeous." says a man's voice I know I've heard, but can't place.
"I love it Momma." says a girls voice.
Rose and I glance at each other and head out onto the porch. Once outside it hits me where I've heard Becca's mystery man. The video cutie, Becca's piano man is Taylor Hanson.
"Oh my God!" I exclaim before I can stop it. I was a Hanson fan when I was human, and after seeing Becca's video I looked them up. I'd then ordered copies of their CDs and caught up on what I'd missed.
My exclamation snaps Taylor from his looking around. He smiles when he sees Rose and I. She's just as gobsmacked as I am to see who Becca's brought home.
"I thought I heard you come home." Carlisle breezes by us, and pulls Becca into a hug.
"Phoenix you've gotten so big." he tells the little girl holding Taylor's hand.
"I'm ten now Papa." she tells him proudly. She wears a blue tee shirt and dark jeans, her blonde hair in a ponytail. I can immediately see her resemblance to Becca.
"You are. Wow, you look just like your mother." he says and she giggles, hiding her face against Taylor's arm. He smiles at the girl, wrapping his arm around her shoulders.
"Daddy, you remember Taylor don't you?" she asks him, as we walk up.
"Sure do. It's good to see you again." Carlisle says, shaking Taylor's extended hand.
"It's good to see you too." he replies.
"Taylor these are my sisters, Bella and Rosalie." Becca says, calling his attention to us. He smiles at us.
"What am I, chopped liver?" Alice asks in mock offense. Becca laughs, giving her a one armed hug.
"He's already met you silly." she laughs. Alice pouts for a minute.
"I've got lots of new Aunts Daddy." Phoenix pipes up, clearly happy.
"Yes you do, and Uncles too I'm sure." Taylor tells her. She grins like a kid on Christmas morning. Wait did she call Taylor Daddy?
"What did she just call you?" Rose asked, we'd assumed Phoenix to be Caius's child. Becca had told us about her children. All three of them. Her son Andrew, and daughters Selena and Phoenix. Phi for short.
"Why don't we go in and call the guys back. Taylor and I have something to tell everyone. And for the record, Taylor is Phi's father." Becca intervened.
"Becca would you like to start now?" Carlisle asks his eldest daughter. She and Taylor share a glance, unspoken words pass between them. I think it's cute.
"I have a secret I've been keeping from everyone. For the last fourteen years, Taylor and I have been in a relationship." she says and like when Carlisle told us about Becca, everyone begins talking at once.
A loud shrill whistle cuts through the din. Silence falls again and Taylor takes his fingers out of his mouth. He'd been the one to whistle.
"We met five years before Caius died. We'd originally planned on it being a one time thing. However with much in common Becca and Caius, and me and my wife, became close friends. Caius was the one who told us the truth about what he was." Taylor speaks now.
We just sit and listen. Edward's eyes are huge.
"He brought us into this world, despite the law. The four of us talked about it, deciding the relationships were worth the risk. It was four years in that Caius was killed." he stops. Clearly talking about Caius is painful for him.
"How does Phoenix fit into this?" Rose asked.
"She's our daughter, though Caius told Aro she was his. She was two when he died." Taylor answers. Phi is upstairs with Ness right now.
"And no one speaks ill if Caius around her. She remembers him, and his death was hard on her." Taylor added, his tone one of fatherly authority.
"So let me get this straight. You and Becca have been having an affair all this time? What about your wife?" Edward asks. I'm proud of him, he's trying.
"Yes and no. And Natalie is fine with it. More then fine actually." he answers the questions with a little detail as possible.
"Caius was okay with it too?" James asks, this info not meshing with how we'd thought of the former King.
"He was. He and Natalie were involved as well." Becca gets this one.
"Why are you telling us this now?" I ask.
"Would you have preferred to find out in two months at the concert?" Becca asked.
"I guess not." I admitted.
"Now is anyone going to have a problem with Taylor staying here for a few days to get to know everyone?" Becca asked, moving to wrap her arm around Taylor's waist.
We all shook our heads.
"What about Aro? If he finds out about this it's a death sentence for Taylor, unless he wants one of us to change him." Jasper said, speaking at last.
"We will deal with Aro when the time comes. And no I don't want to be changed." Taylor says.
"Do your brothers know?" I ask, the question popping into my head suddenly.
"They know. They knew Caius before he died." Becca says.
