A/N: sort of got stuck on this chapter a bit. With not much knowledge of the Hyuga clan I studied then as much as I could. Please tell meh if I got anything wrong like a characters attitude or what they would say. I'll try to change it as soon as possible. Let's see what happens now in Chapter 18!
We walked to the entrance to what was supposable the Hyūga clan compound. It was plain and orderly, not a single mark or scratch was on the outer walls of the building. It was a large structure that I couldn't even see the top of without getting blinded by the sun. I smirked at their cleverness, putting a compound where the sun reflects off of the walls so intruders would have a tough time trying to see and they would be easily caught from casting a shadow in the day time.
I stopped when I heard Hinata's footsteps halt. I turned to looked at her and she just looked like she had seen a ghost. I could tell she was nervous and her hands were fists. She seemed that she was scared to go to her clan's compound. I sighed and decided to try and comfort her. "Hinata, if you're not ready we could always come back later. I don't mind, you could show me around the town. If it makes you feel any better." I let out a soft smile to let her know it was okay, but she still looked as afraid as ever.
"No t-thank you. This is s-something that w-was bound to happen one day Mika-chan. I just feel bad that you had to be pulled into it like this. Let's just go ahead and knock on the doors, I need to do this." Her fear was whipped from her face and a determined look fell upon her. I nodded in agreement. 'Whatever it is, she has some guts.'
I had a blank face as Hinata and I reached the entrance doors of the Hyūga compound. Hinata's hand shook slightly but remained firm and she let two small knocks echo on the large doors. Not a second later after Hinata put her hand back by her side, the door was opened. We were greeted by a male who looked so similar to Hinata that you could mistake them for almost being twins. The only thing was that he had long black hair and his eyes were whiter than Hinata's. The greeter had his headband on his forehead and wore a khaki shirt, under which had a dull blue shirt with a mesh armor underneath it, dark brown shorts. He also had bandages wrapped around his right arm, chest, and right leg.
"Hinata-san. You have returned." His face was cold and stern. "Yes Neji-kun. I have brought your guest, Mika-chan and have the mission to be her guide" they stared each other down for a minute silently reading each other's faces about the predicament. Then pale-faced Neji stepped aside and let us in the door. He left us down a hall which led to a large plot of land in the middle of their compound. It was bare of any grass, the only vegetation was one tree in the far left corner. I assume it was a training ground from all the loose and random compact dirt spread everywhere.
The place was traditional with thin paper sliding doors to the gray wash that was spread about. I was observing the surrounds to be interrupted by Neji. "All of our guest rooms are occupied due to a slight bug that's been going around, it's nothing serious but I hope Hinata doesn't mind you occupying her old room." It wasn't Neji that was talking, what startled me was the way her bowed and looked uncomfortable and almost strained look on his face. I turned around to see a younger girl who like all of the Hyūga's I've seen had the similar eyes. She had dark brown hair with long parted bangs with a single lock of hair falling into her face.
"Hello, I'm sorry to intrude but I am Hanabi. I am Hinata's younger sister." She let out a soft smile, but pain was written on her face. "Neji would you please tell my father that of our guests arrival. I'm sure he will be pleased to meet her." A slight giggle sound escaped from her, it confused me to as what was funny. I just looked at her to find the source but didn't receive one. Hanabi only stared at Hinata and it made me feel very uncomfortable. Hinata silently hid beside me not wanting to agitate confrontation.
"I'm Mika." I held out my hand to greet the small girl and she happily took it. I took the tension out of the air that was starting to rise. "You said that there is a bug going around?" Hanabi looked at me and spoke "Ah, yes just a small common cold going through the compound, we separated the sick from the others to keep it from spreading. That's why the guest rooms are currently are taken. As I said before the only unoccupied room in my elder sister's old room." She held a warm smile that I could see right through. 'Why is she forcing herself so much?'
Hinata laid silent beside me not saying a word with her face to staring at the ground. I decided that only I could try to lessen this situation. "Hey Hinata-chaaaan. Will you be alright if I stay in you old room? I would feel bad if you didn't." my voice was smooth like molasses. "Um…n-no of course you can stay. I have no opposing, I also have no right b-because I don't live here anymore. Please g-go ahead and stay." Hinata rose her head and lite up like a light bulb at my words.
"Right this way." Hanabi interrupted. We followed her down a hallway and stopped at a door which looked like it hadn't been opened in some time. "This is it." Hanabi opened the door, "This is where you will be staying. I'll send someone in a little bit to make sure you feel at home here." She giggled again. At this point I started to question her sanity. 'This brat is already getting on my nerves little one.' The voice in my head made me jump. Hinata and Hanabi stared at me in confusion. I just shook my head and entered the room.
It had a little musty smell, but it was manageable. There a few traces of dust but nothing major. The floor was made of a beautiful wood showing its natural brilliance. There was one window at the far end of the room letting the correct amount of light so you could see everything in the room quite clearly. The only thing that I found odd was that there was a cut out of the floor I stared at it, it was rectangular shaped. "That is where the futon goes, I had it washed when I heard word of a guest staying here. I nodded at the new information.
"So Hinata how have you been? I missed you." Hanabi had a softer look about her and the tone of her voice was sincere. Hinata looked around her old room and contemplated on her answer. "I have been fine, Hanabi." her voice was quiet and small, she walked around the room lost in her memories. Then there was a soft tap at the door way. We all turned around to have our eyes meet an older male he had long, black hair and wore a very traditional, loose-fitting robes with a long-sleeved, and a brown haori.
"Excuse me for being delayed from greeting you." The man bowed his head slightly "I am Hiashi Hyūga the head of the Hyuga clan and Hanabi and Hinata's father. Pleasure to meet you." He walked into the room and held out his hand. I shook his hand and replied "Hello, I am Mika. Pleasure is mine." He turned to Hinata and had a weird look upon his face. It was then Neji entered the room with his arms full of blankets. "Here is your bed, I assume that you know how to make it." He more of stated it coldly more than anything. He placed what he had in his arms beside the absence of floor and stood and faced me.
He gave me a distant cold look and it was returned with one of mine. "Now I hope you enjoy your stay here at the Hyūga compound. Please if there is anything that you need just ask." Hiashi the head of the Hyuga clan turned around to leave. "I expect great things of you Mika, from what the Hokage said. I would like to see you spar here in the near future." He stopped and turned slightly and looked at Hinata. "And Hinata if you don't mind I would like to have a word with you in the main room." With that he walked out.
I stood there puzzled 'what did she tell him. I didn't know anything about sparing. Well I don't think I do. Bothersome old woman.' I turned to look at Hinata who look shocked and I could tell from the sparkle in her eye, it was either fear or joy that lite up inside of her. "Excuse us." Hanabi took Hinata's hand and led her out of the room leaving me a Neji.
Neji cleared his throat I turned to glare at him. "Enjoy your stay." His face was emotionless and stern while he exited the room and closed the paper door. I grumbled at the guy who got his panties in a wad all of a sudden. It was as he resented me for something and I just met the 'brat.' I shook my head. Now I was starting to sound like the other voice in my head. I sighed loudly and walked around the room. I shook myself to gather my thoughts and ended up right beside the window. I gazed outside to the warm breeze that blew. My hair tickled my skin as it moved in the wind.
'Who exactly am I?'
A/N: Bit of a dramatic ending for my taste but it's what came to my mind when writing so what can ya do. :p
