Chapter 11: What Happened After
"Novela Mary Wood – doesn't quite have the same ring to it as Black, but it works nicely enough, if I do dare say so myself," Mona said in between her chewing, few pieces of the egg salad sandwich spewing out of her mouth.
Novi frowned, both at what her friend had just said and her antics. Besides, egg salad sandwiches were disgusting. "That's disgusting, Mona. Anyway, Oliver and I've only just started dating since the New Year, that's barely a week ago. It's way too early to be thinking about being future Mrs. Wood."
"Really? Because I didn't have any other in mind than you to be future Mrs. Wood except you since I'd been eleven," Oliver's voice said from behind Novi, making her jump a little. "Good morning ladies."
"Morning Oliver," Novi smiled as her new boyfriend slid into the seat next to her.
Boyfriend. That sounded quite spectacular, rolling off of Novi's tongue. Oliver Freaking Wood was her boyfriend. Now that it was official, Novi just couldn't believe how stupid she had been, being reluctant. And as she thought to herself, she just couldn't stop the happy grin that spread on her face as she pecked him on the cheek lightly.
"So Wood was the mysterious man you were with on Farley Mansion's New Year's Eve party, eh?" a voice said from beside the couple. It was Angelina Johnson, one of the Gryffindor's Chasers. She grinned victoriously before she turned to one of the other Chasers, "cough it up, Alicia, you owe me five Sickles."
"So I'm guessing we were right, and famous Miss Black's new beau is our one and only Captain?" Fred Weasley said as he plopped himself down next to Novi, herself. "Well done, Nov. I must admit Oliver is quite the catch," he winked jokingly.
"Oh yes, just look at his doe-like big brown eyes. Oh, and the way he smells putridly after a Quidditch practice, quite wonderful," George added.
"Does everyone know that you two are together now?" Mona asked exasperatedly. "I mean, I guess there hasn't been much to gossip about lately, but how did they even know that it's happened at my place?"
"I was actually going to ask the same thing. How did you all know that it was on New Year's Eve?" Oliver asked confusedly.
"You're joking right? Mona, you should really pay closer attention to who gets inside your house at these parties. Looks like you've got a reporter sneak in," Katie Bell said as she squashed herself in between Mona and Percy. "Here, read this."
Everyone's eyes landed on the rather glossy magazine that landed itself on top of Mona's plate. And Mona, Novi and Oliver's faces drowned itself from its colour. It was the Witch Weekly.
"Oh, no," Mona said as she read the little subtitles on the sides of the giant face of the Witch Weekly's Witch of the Week. Black Romance at the Farley Mansion – page 17. Mona quickly opened to the page and felt her mouth drop.
Half of the open magazine was consisted of Novi, Oliver, and Mona on the night at the Farley Mansion. There was a gorgeous picture of Novi and Mona standing tall in their respectable gowns, descending down the stairs, the three of them talking with Oliver's back to the camera, and rather picturesque one of Oliver and Novi kissing under the brilliant fireworks.
Black Romance at the Farley Mansion
By Hilary Godbout
We all know that a rather extravagant gathering amongst the high-class society on occasions such as Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, Summer Solstice, (you get the idea), is nothing new. Having been to quite a few of these events myself, I could tell you that it is, usually, a very magical experience. I mean, how can it not be, what with everyone in their nicest sparkling robes, the hall decorated to the tiptop condition, the live music, and the food – it pretty much is every girl's (and some boys perhaps) dream to attend one of these in their lifetime, no?
So what did this year's Farley New Year's Eve party differ from any other parties that it actually made news in the Witch Weekly's? Well, apart from the many bold statement-worthy dresses and robes that is completely drool-inducing, it was the appearance of the sole heiress of the Black Family fortune, Novela Mary Black, and possibly her new beau!
Yeah, everyone remember that little girl that made it to the Witch Weekly's a few years back? No? Well she was the girl that the Ministry had been all hush-hush about, until her entrance to Hogwarts – the Infamous Murderer, Sirius Black's daughter.
So there are a few reasons why Black was the centre of our attention at this party. And let's start with the basics. Doesn't she just look fantastic? Both Mona Farley, the youngest daughter of the household, and Novela Black arrived at the hall fashionably late in their fashionably awesome do's.
When you're at a party, you can never go wrong with a classic black dress that both makes you look sexy and slim, and most people at these parties take that too seriously. However, Miss Farley showed up in her flowing, pink dress that somehow made her white blonde hair look even more perfect! Now, as for Miss Black. She turned up in a rather unconventional dress, despite it being mostly black. It showed a lot more skin than what we are used to, especially her neck region (since she wore her new black hair up), but it was definitely yay, not a nay. This whole getup not only made her sharp features stand out beautifully, but made everyone in the hall stop to stare. (I know I did, I mean, she does pull the red lipstick quite well.)
But despite being arguably the most eligible bachelorette in the hall, what with her fame, stunning looks, and fortune, there seemed to be only one person she was interested in. We have no idea who this young man is, and didn't get any clear pictures of him, but we here at Witch Weekly managed to get a picture of their romantic snog as the clock struck midnight.
So what do you think, ladies? Do you think this young Wizard knew who he was snogging, and that he may be in it for the Black family fortune, or is this a beginning of a Black romance?
"Well, shit."
The next few weeks of school were nothing but a blur for Novi. She was busy preparing for the OWLs, and she knew that she wasn't the only Fifth Year stressing about the exams. The sneers and glares she had received from the Slytherins because of 'her blood-traitor ways and blood-traitor boyfriend ruining the pureblood society's image' had died down. And, her relationship with Oliver was progressing slowly but steadily. All in all, the days blended into a comfortable routine once more.
It wasn't until the next Quidditch game, that the Fifth Year Gryffindors felt any excitement. If fury and unnerve could also qualify as excitement, that was. The news that Snape was refereeing was still a very strange but a real concept to all of them, and the Gryffindors felt that Snape would take any possible minor details to favor the Hufflepuffs.
"Oliver, how many times do we have to tell you, you really need to eat, too, before you lecture your teammates to eat?" Novi found herself lecturing her boyfriend, who was busy getting all of his teammates to eat a healthy balanced breakfast, while he shook with nerves.
"I can't, I'm too nervous," he chewed his bottom lip in worry.
"We know that Snape is refereeing, and he will take up any opportunity to send penalty shots flying your way, Ollie," Mona said as she bit into her second serving of breakfast ham and bacons, she thought the meat helped her cheer louder and more obnoxiously. "But Hufflepuff has a rotten team, way too concerned with being 'good sport' or some bullocks like that. You'll be fine," she insulted nonchalantly, making the people near snort into their foods.
"They're actually a fair team compared to Ravenclaws, though," Oliver retorted, but couldn't help but have a bit of a smile break across his solemn face.
"Wood, we going down to the pitch now, or what?" Angelina Johnson said as she and the rest of the team started to get themselves collected for the game.
"Yeah, I'm going. I'm going."
"I think Wood will feel much more relaxed if he's got a kiss of encouragement from Nov!" George shouted suddenly.
"George!" Novi hissed, but the damage had been done. The nearby Gryffindors whooped and cheered as they looked to their direction expectantly.
Novi and Oliver could both feel themselves get red in the face at the attention and the anticipation they had drawn. The two had been dating for a few months now, but had been taking their relationship slow and very private; only sharing chaste kisses on the cheeks and holding hands in the corridors. Novi looked quite annoyed and Oliver looked quite nervous but both couldn't keep the little smile cracking up at the expectant faces.
"Come on, are we going to have to wait until it snows again for us to see a little kiss?" Angelina teased.
So Novi, surprising both herself and her friends around her, grabbed Oliver by the chin and slammed her lip onto his. She was barely aware of the whooping and cheering of the fellow House mates, and the glaring of many others as she watched her boyfriend's face turn a shy pink.
"Go kick some Badger arse, Oliver," she told him as the teammates now rowdily whisked him away to the Quidditch field.
(A/N) Hello my Followers and Stalkers alike
So it really has been a while huh? Yeah, SORRY ABOUT THAT.
Anyway, I think people may have been curious as to what happened after Oliver and Novi's kiss the previous chapter, so I thought I'd post this although it's pretty short and doesn't have that much development. Anyway, a lot of people have been telling me that they're DYING to know what will happen to Novi and co. come Prisoner of Azkaban. And I'm not going to say much, but I'll tell you this; shit's gonna go down. So if you're curious, FOLLOW, FAVORITE, AND REVIEW. I'll try to post another chapter for both this and Through Ella's Eyes soon but I'll be busy with exams, so no promises.
Also, keep your eye out for my next story. After the the season 4 finale of The Walking Dead, I had to write a (Carl/OC) story.
Anyway, until next time
