Hey guys, sorry about not uploading forever, but I was having trouble with this prompt. For some reason the muses just didn't want to cooperate. I'm sorry if this isn't accurate, I'm getting my knowledge of army medical procedures from things I've seen on M*A*S*H.
It hurts. The sharp searing pain as the bullet hits you is indescribable. You gasp as you fall to the ground, the dust puffing up around you as you drop your gun. Your heavy vest keeps you down as the pain in your stomach makes it hard to breath. Your vision is cloudy, your not sure if it's from the dust of the blood loss, but you're aware of a figure kneeling beside you and putting you on a stretcher. Your vest is opened and packed with gauze, you see it turning red when you look down. There's so much blood, it's brighter than you'd thought it would be, especially against the dust of Afghanistan.
You've been taken to the med tent, out of the fray of battle. You're laid down and one of the field doctor's comes over and lifts the packing in your vest. You hear him say something to a nurse then he comes into your view. He's got dust sticking to the sweat on his face, but then, everyone does. His ash blonde hair has taken on a slight yellow sheen due to the same dust. His grey eyes look down at you and you can hear him say something to you, it sounds like he's asking you your name. You tell him and he nods, assuring you that you'll be okay. You think he's lying, but you want to believe him. It hurts though, it just hurts so much. They give you a field anesthetic and the pain subsides immensely. The doctor, you think his name is Watson, is still in your peripheral removing the gauze and stitching you up. He works efficiently, making sure he removes the bullet and closes everything bleeding inside you. He works quickly, but you know he does his best. Every time a bomb goes off, he leans over you to make sure your wound stays clean. He closes the wound and a nurse takes you to a different tent for post op. She tucks you in after wrapping your stomach with gauze and gives you something that knocks you out.
You wake back up to the doctor leaning over you, apparently checking your wounds. You blink a few times before everything comes into focus.
"Good, you're up. Captain John Watson, I'm the one that stitched you up. You were shot in the stomach, but luckily it missed most of the important internal organs. You'll be on bed rest for a while, then back into fray." The doctor, Cpt. Watson, tells you. His voice is clinical, but his eyes hold the smallest amount of guilt. He wishes you didn't have to fight this war anymore, and honestly, you can't blame him. You just want to go back home, to your regular life and your friends and family. You smile and thank him before trying to go back to sleep. You dream of your family that night, and wake up to bombs going off in the distance.
