They had made off the steps when the guards found them. Kagome shouted out a warning but before her cry left her lips, InuYasha slammed around the corner, his sword hanging loosely in his grasp. Some of the color had returned to his cheeks but his skin still seemed a bit to tight to appear natural.
Sesshomaru waved them forward and away from the guards who yelled for reinforcements. Yuzuki raised her twin blades and with two powerful strikes, the steps were decimated under her attack. The carved marble left a thick powder in the air that made a good cover for the group to escape by. Kagome snatched a knife from a display on a storefront as they raced past and her actions were mirrored by two other unknown demons, Sango, and Yuzuki's dragon.
When the tree line came into sight, Sango grabbed the monk's collar before tugging him onto the back of her fire cat. One of the unfamiliar youki unfurled his wings, lifting off and blending seamlessly with the night sky. She was grabbed by Sesshomaru and thrown haphazardly across his shoulder. InuYasha pushed himself to keep the pace up and to not lag behind his brother. The sounds of soldiers faded as their ground-devouring pace slowed.
Everyone collected in a grove of trees. The crash from the lack of adrenaline effected everyone causing more then one member of the group to collapse on the ground. Yuzuki placed her hands on her knees and took deep breaths to get oxygen to her tingling extremities. Ryutaro stretched his body, knowing if he fell asleep like his body was wanting him to, it would lead to horrid cramps in his muscles.
The group was pissing and moaning besides the panting miko and the stoic Lord. Every member of the so called rescue party glared at the object of their searching. She had the good taste to smile sheepishly.

She no longer felt safe in her room. Kagome had taken one look before deciding she never wanted to she the interior of her guest room again. Blood splattered the floor both inside and outside the room. She just raised an eyebrow at the spray of red and her lover only shook his head, telling her she was better off not knowing.
The only things she did salvage were the withering rose and her obnoxious yellow bag. She twirled the dying blossom between her fingers and he just rolled his eyes, much to her enjoyment.
Yuzuki had been a constant companion during the long days. The girl seemed to latch onto her when she returned, her joy at her rescue was almost strange. Nevertheless, she enjoyed the company and the conversation she brought. On one such day, the way Yuzuki twirled her fingers nervously in her lap, Kagome had demanded answers.
"I leave for home in a few days," Her silvery tone was light and gentle as she twirled her fingers around the hilts of her swords. They sat out in the garden, one of Kagome's favorite places within Sesshomaru's home. "I worry about leaving people behind."
"People or a person?" Kagome asked, standing and grabbing the sheers she had requested. Her nimble fingers clipped the dead buds off the blooming bush. From her spot, she could hear the girl's sharp intake of breath.
"Am I really so predictable?" She asked, rubbing her suddenly shaking hands up and down her arms. "Do I ask to much for him to wait for me?"
"Do I look like I know?" She questioned, looking at the silver haired child from under her ridiculously wide brimmed hat. She sighed when Yuzuki bit her lip so hard that a trickle of blood trailed down her mouth. With a flourish of her hands, she thought about what her mother would say. "I know a little about time travel, and from my knowledge, the only thing I can say is this: just how long would you wait for him?"
Sesshomaru's daughter stilled her menstruations on her arms and looked to the little human woman who lacked shoes and who's hair was held back a stretched out topper. A wide smile spread across her face and she jumped from her chair and into the surprised woman's arms, her mouth spewing a long line of thank you's.
When Yuzuki scampered from the garden, her nose was stuck into the air looking for the scent of burning coal and Him.
Kagome could only wave at the receding girl who had sprinted away.
"Did you just convince my daughter to pursue a man who will be almost twice her age?" Sesshomaru asked, his arms crossed and his brow furrowed. His lover sat in the dirt with a confused look on her face.
"I think I did."

Yuzuki followed the trail of sweat to the dragon' training grounds. She found him laughing with his sparring partners. Even from this distance, she could see the solid bulk of muscle that in her time would have been refined and slimmed. His stomach was smooth and when he leaned over, a small roll of fat curled at his hips. The signs of his youth made her smile. No one had noticed her yet so she continued to watch. His teeth were impossibly bright, the whiteness a stark contrast to the dark hue of his skin. His black hair was tumbling down his back and was caught by a breeze, blowing his scent in her direction.
The miko's words bounced around in his skull. Just how long would she have waited if this situation were flipped?
She thought of the tentative kisses he had placed on her lips, the laughter that he had brought her when his virgin instincts made a mistake. The calming presence he had given her when she was craving spilled blood. His resolve to stand by her when he owed her nothing. Then she just thought of him.
She would wait and only hope he thought the same.
Her feet moved forward with little help, her fingers nails digging into her fleshy palm. He looked up when her shadow cast across him and his friends. His smile only widened and she met his grin with one of her own. He said goodby and stood, laughingly offering his elbow for her to take. Her chuckle made his chest swell.
"I'm leaving soon."
Her words decimated the happy atmosphere they had created not only seconds ago. He frowned and she didn't like how his brows furrowed. She absentmindedly ran her fingers over them and she relaxed his muscles before yanking her after him. She struggled to keep up and sighed when his angry aura flared. Reaching his home, he tossed the door open and marched in, slamming it after she crossed the threshold.
"You're leaving, just like that?" He was furious. He had just found her. She threw her hands up and then gestured between the two of them as if her vague hand gestures could accurately explain her feelings. He raised his eyebrows and shrugged his shoulders.
"It's it not by choice. I only have a month here, you knew this!" She shouted bristly. He stilled, looking into her wide eyes and pink tinged cheeks. He reached forward and grabbed her chin, tilting it up to meet his lips.
Her fingers latched onto his bare hips to steady herself while he kissed her with care. The kiss of parting. He leaned his head to the side, his ragged breathing brushing across her cheek. Both of his palms were splayed across the column of her throat and when he rested his forehead against hers, she moved her fingers up his chest to rest on the side of his face.
"Inside the Raining Cave," He whispered.
"Inside the Raining Cave," She replied.

Yuzuki vanished from their lives as quickly as she appeared. It was early one morning when she suddenly pitched forward, her body fading in and out of sight. She called for her father and he held her steady as slowly, she disappeared. She was not expected back for another three days but apparently the fates decided her time with her past father was over.
Her voice was weak but Kagome knew his daughter had granted him some daughterly wisdom because when her words cut off, his eyes were wide and he looked at her with a new light. For Kagome, she reached out weakly and placed a crumpled piece of paper into her hands. Written in flowing script, her name was printed just above a warning telling her father not to look. The smile the words brought was stolen when her arm disappeared.
It lasted little over an hour before she was gone. Ryutaro didn't make it in time. He burst into the room minutes after she had vanished, his breath labored and his eyes frantic to find her. When he came up empty, his crestfallen look made Kagome's heart ache. He ran a hand rough his disheveled hair and pressed his back against the wooden doorframe before sliding down to the floor.
The room remained quiet as they morned the passing of a child not yet born.
The next chapter will be Sessy/Kags ending and the last chapter will be how our favorite Doggy Daughter ends up.
