The lift opened and the three girls stepped out.
"Glad your back Zatanna, does this mean you're officially joining the team?" Artemis asked.
They watched as Zatara and Red Tornado moved boxes around.
"I don't know, Zatara's so over-protective." She sighed. "I mean just getting him to let me visit takes a whole day of begging…I really wish he'd just give me a little space."
Suddenly all the adults in the room vanished.
"What the-
"Dad!" Zatanna shouted as the boxes they'd been moving fell to the floor and broke.
Kaldur sprung into action. "Robin, Blue…Zatanna, try get in touch with the League." They nodded and left for the elevators to take them downstairs as the rest of the team bordered the Bio-Ship.
The Team went out checking to see if anything happened in Happy Harbour.
What they did find out was this.
All the adults had disappeared.
"We've set up a refugee camp in the High School gym." Wally said into his com.
"Any luck?"
"Nope, no one's answering, not the Batcave, the Justice League or the Watchtower." Robin said.
"Or any adult hero. Including Red Arrow." Blue nodded.
"So we're on our own….Kid Flash out."
"Traditional media is down but kids worldwide are all posting the same thing on social media, every adult eighteen or older has disappeared. The sorcery necessary to pull this off, scary big." Zatanna said.
"And we need you find the source." Robin said.
"How am I…"
"I pulled this footage." Blue said. "You're dad helped find the Injustice League using a locator…we're going to need you to do the same thing."
"But…but the words, that's only part of it the rest takes training and… Guys I'm not on Zatara's level."
"I know its hard but try to stay whelmed, we'll find your Dad, Batman…all of them. It's what we do."
Blue rolled her eyes at Robin. 'I'm starting to feel like the third wheel here... besides I already have an idea who it fucking is….that Witch Boy bastard who keeps sulking around Port Addison.'
She hadn't realised she was staring into space until a pair of fingers were snapped in front of her face.
"Wait what?"
"Blue…you okay…"
"Yeah, what you need Boy Wonder?" She asked.
"Well since you look so good on camera Aqualad needs us two to go on air with him and spread some TLC to the kids around the world." He smiled.
She smiled took though hers was a little weak.
"I'm in."
All over the world TV screens, phones, iPads…anything that had a screen actually came alive with the picture of four teens.
Kaldur and Robin stood in front while Blue and Wally stood slightly behind them but still clearly visible.
"Attention children and teenagers of earth I am Aqualad and these are my friends Robin, Bleubell and Kid Flash."
"We are using Justice League tech to pass this stream to every TV, radio, computer and smart phone on the plant." Robin said.
"We know you must be scared and angry, we know with your parents missing there must be chances to run wild but please stay calm." Kid Flash put in.
"We will find a way to bring the adults back but for now the oldest among you must step up." Aqualad spoke.
"Take care of your younger siblings; take care of kids who have no home. Protect them." Blue said.
Kid Flash repeated the message in French and Chinese and after him Blue spoke in Spanish and in the little Italian she knew from the Asilo for the people who couldn't understand their English.
"Please help in any way you can…." Aqualad said.
"Justice League out."
-THE CAVE-
They gathered together and Robin brought up a hologram of the world for Zatanna.
She took a deep breath and repeated the words her father had spoken a month before.
"Co-ordinates locked, Roanoke Island." Robin said. "You did it."
Suddenly in a flash of lightning there stood a kid. "Hey look it works!"
"Where'd you come from?" Aqualad said angrily walking towards him. "Who are you?"
"Uh quick read my mind?" He said and M'gann did, gasping when she found the answer.
"He's….Captain Marvel."
"Yeah and I'm Speedy Gonzales just because he believes he's Captain-"
"Gee Wally, do I really have to bring you nachos and pineapple juice to get on your good side?" He asked cheekily.
"Oh I'm convinced." Blue said.
Using Captain Marvel's ability to travel between dimensions, the Team and Batman made a plan. To strike at the same time in their two separate dimensions, disrupt the sorcery at work and hope the two dimensions become one.
"Let's kick some bad magic butt." Blue said.
-ROANOKE ISLAND-
Blue was right, it was Klarion…
He deflected the explosives and arrows from Robin and Artemis, blocked three attacks from three directions at the same time and deflected Zatanna's 'Babymagic.'
Blue hated this guy.
Now Blue was created from a very twisted Science she wasn't really a hundred percent sure about….so magic and Blue tended bot to like each other.
So Blue and Klarion?
Oh dear god…
Bleubell closed her eyes and opened them to her glowing electric blue power.
She raised a closed fist and slowly pulled it open, a glowing blue hole slowly appearing in the protective dome Klarion had created around himself.
He smirked. He just loved to tease her. "Hey there Beautiful, sorry can't talk right now! Dnes reh kcab."
Blue went flying backwards landing in Kid Flash's arms as he winced slightly with his arm still broken since the Injustice League incident.
"You two really do not like each other." He joked half-heartedly.
"Oh you don't know the half of it. Aim for the cat." Blue told him.
He stared at her and then it clicked. "When Doctor Fate possessed my body to defeat Klarion he…"
"He went after Teekl."
"Good." Artemis said next to them, pointing an arrow at the cat. "Not a cat fan anyway."
Her arrow was….turned into a ball of yarn…
Really Klarion?
Really?
"Show them what a familiar to a Lord of Chaos can do Teekl!"
Teekl was transformed into a giant sabre tooth tiger that was set on Superboy.
"You've got to be kidding me!" Blue said groaning.
The gem he was chanting his spell too started to spark with blue lightning and Klarion hissed.
"So you teamed up with the grumps? Teamwork is so over-rated!" He used the electric power to hit Robin and Artemis and send them flying.
Zatanna stood in front of the unconscious two. "Artemis, Robin?"
When she looked up she saw Klarion (with a sickly proud smile on his face) shot another burst of lighting at Blue, she put her arms up and her eyes glowed but he blew her back before she could do anything and Bleubell hit the truck of a tree hard.
Zatanna turned to the rock which hid the one thing that could help them.
The Helmet of Fate.
She sighed and said. "Temleh fo Etaf, laever flesruoy!"
Thanks to Billy arriving from the adult world they learnt that it was the gem they needed, destroy it and they won.
"That's all I needed to know." Zatanna said picking up the helmet.
"Zatanna!"
"Stop!"
She put on the helmet.
"Klarion, this ends now!" She/Nabu shouted.
She/him/they? Anyway Doctor Fate and Klarion proceeded to get into a heated battle.
"Go Kid." Aqualad said and he sped off.
Miss Martian and Aqualad tried to break a hole through the dome but it would actually be Blue who'd create a crack.
She stood up and her eyes glowed, she didn't know if this would work, practice with it had slowed to pretty much nothing since Bleu Illusion left and he had told her not to use it until it was perfected.
Manipulating parts of her body, feet to be faster, muscles to be stronger and use it to send ripples of manipulative energy through the earth to her target.
It used a massive amount of power and energy and probably way out of her league but…
Even though she was about to disobey a direct order.
But she had to try.
She placed her hand in a fist and aimed it at the ground.
At contact her arm screamed in pain and a blue ripple of energy would race through the ground to the dome and slowly blue cracks grew up one side.
An unstable Nabu saw this and summoned his power aiming it at the weak part of the dome.
With his power, Miss Martian and Aqualad's constant battering with their abilities and the dome already cracked via manipulation of the earth it was sat on, the dome shattered and Kid Flash zoomed in to get the gem.
"Yam eht owt emoceb eno ecno erom!"
Blue was on her knees clutching her arm, her knuckles were cut and already starting to swell and she didn't dare try to move it.
Okay, not mastered…better then last time but not mastered. Like at all.
She just hoped her arm wasn't broken.
The two worlds were joined, Klarion in a glowing ankh prison thanks to Doctor Fate.
Klarion's 'friends' who had been helping him with the casting of the two dimension spell dropped from exhaustion. "Boy they sure don't make evil immortal sorcerers like they used too. Oh well." He snapped his fingers and the ankh disappeared. "Fun while it lasted. Teekl." He called the sabre tooth tiger that was still fighting with Superboy came running transforming into a cat as he did.
Blue stood up and Klarion opened a patrol to god knows where.
"Beautiful I'd get that arm checked out! See you later armadillos! Unless I see you first!" He cackled before jumping into the patrol that closed behind him.
"Aren't you going to stop him?" Kid Flash asked.
"To what end? Klarion is chaos personified, he cannot be contained."
Artemis and Robin were awake from their unconscious state and were being helped up. "Did we win?"
"At a cost."
"Fate!" Zatara shouted before thinking better of it. "Great Nabu, release my daughter."
"No."
Blue sucked in a breath as she kept hold of her arm.
"Kent tried to reason with me but Klarion is running wild, the world needs Dr. Fate. She is a student of the Mystic Arts, makes her the perfect candidate."
"You can't do that!" Artemis and Blue shouted.
"She has her own life to live."
"Kent would never allow you to do that!" Kid Flash yelled.
"Kent Nelson did object strenuously so I released him his soul to the afterlife, he is gone."
The Team looked at each other.
"Take me instead, I am already adept to magic, my body is physically stronger better able to handle the strain of your power." Zatara pleaded.
"All true, but if I remove the helmet what guarantee you will don it?" Nabu asked.
"My word. Ekat em deatsin." Zatara said.
Dr Fate landed on the ground and removed the helmet, Zatanna standing in front of him once more.
"Dad!"
"Zatanna." They embraced each other and Blue had to look away.
"Remember." He told her, "I love you." He kissed her forehead and took the helmet.
"Take care of my girl." He told the League and the Team.
"You have my word." Batman said.
He lifted the helmet.
"Dad no! This is my fault! Please! Dad!" She shouted but he donned the helmet.
And Zatara became Dr Fate.
Zatanna dropped to her knees and cried.
Mount Justice,
November 7, 09:16.
They finished carrying the boxes in with Blue leaning against the wall her arm in a sling; she hadn't broken it but chipped it. How it didn't shatter her wrist completely she didn't know and that worried her.
"My room is right next door." M'gann told Zatanna. "If you need anything."
"Thanks." The magician said. "But I could….use a little alone time."
"Of course." Artemis nodded and the four left the girl alone.
Port Addison.
November 7, 11:31.
Blue walked toward her small apartment, down the deserted corridor when she felt the wind rush behind her and the presence of someone familiar.
"You've got some balls coming here during the day Blanco." She told him.
"I know what happened to your arm Azul." He replied simply and her non-injured fist clenched, by god did she hate that name… "I felt it, I'm pretty sure we all felt it."
"And?"
"He's coming for you."
"I can handle him, I'm stronger now."
"I know…but that power of yours without Illusion to teach you to control it is ripping you apart. You're arm should be broke in half, but you barely chipped it, no amount of manipulation ability should be able to hurt and heal you."
"I can handle it."
"No you can't." He told her. "I don't care how strong you are Azul…"
He sighed.
"There's something seriously wrong with your story baby," He told her like she was a small child. "People like you and me, we don't get happy endings. Look at Rojo; he's an assassin a ticking time bomb, Rosa died last year…"
She took an intake of breath. Rosa was….gone?
"Amarillo's gone too, Ramiro caught him just six months ago, Marron fell to his illness…..we're slowly babes, we haven't got a chance and when we should be helping one another you and Rojo are trying to kill each other because you decided to be a hero."
She looked back at him and he looked….
Tired, Blanco's almost white blond hair was dishevelled and greasy and the bags under his eyes heavy, his tan skin held a sickly under tone and she could tell he was desperate.
He was sure they could survive, if they worked together.
But Blue couldn't go that.
She couldn't go back there.
"Sorry Blanco, but we're not family anymore, I don't owe you people anything."
"I never said you did…Azul, he's got a new weapon. This one wasn't born like us, they made him with Cadmus using all our DNA mixed with Ramiro's and….," He sighed, he couldn't tell her that not yet. "They took our DNA Azul, he's got all of our abilities bar yours because you weren't there when they made him, this was before we broke out."
"This sounds like a massive problem for you…oh well…"
He groaned he had no choice but to tell her.
"Azul…Blue he…his name's Bestia….Blue they…they used Nadia's DNA as well as Ramiro's…..he's your brother Blue. They used your mom's DNA."
"Don't insult me." Blue told him. "I haven't got a mother." Even as she said it Blue felt the guilt wash over her, guilt and anger, regret and malice…
Her mom….
"Blue if he finds you…he'll kill you and if you're already fighting with yourself."
"Fuck off Blanco, I ran from that hellhole of a life for a reason….I'm not part of your twisted little experiment mistake of a family, I'm not Azul I'm my own person, you people do not define me. So get out of my building, out of the Asilo out of the fucking State! And stay out of my life." She continued down the hall to apartment and slammed the door when she got in.
She leaned against it before her legs buckled and her ass hit the floor.
She stayed there….and cried.
