Arizona's holiday had so far gone as planned. Without Tim everything was a bit lackluster, but when her extended family came over things picked up as much as they could. She caught up with her relatives, they exchanged gifts, had dinner and the last of her family just left. As soon as the door shut behind them she dashed up to her room to her phone and called her girlfriend. It was around nine-thirty at night but she thought Callie's family would have gone home by now too. When Callie didn't answer she left a message telling Callie that she was free and to call her back whenever she was too. After a couple minutes of thinking she decided on a movie. Even though Callie hadn't responded to her call she texted her that she wanted them to watch The Family Stone. While she was waiting for Callie she changed into her black, white, and red plaid pajama pants and a basic white shirt to get more comfortable. When she still hadn't received word after changing she slipped her phone into her pocket and went downstairs to spend more time with her parents until her girlfriend did call. It was ten-thirty and her girlfriend still hadn't called. Her parents had been talking, but her mind was elsewhere as she was constantly checking her phone.
"Arizona, you've been starring at your phone nonstop without actually using it and you never completely ignore us like you are now. Is everything okay?" Her behavior was mildly concerning to her mother. All break she had been laughing and smiling every time she looked at her phone, which of course was always because of Callie, but right now she was just staring at her phone with a pout.
"I haven't heard from Callie since this morning. We were supposed to do a movie night and I've called and texted, but haven't heard back. She always responds right away whenever I reach out to her and it's been like an hour."
"Honey, I'm sure she'll get back to you soon. It's only been an hour, maybe her family is still over, or her sister or parents wanted to spend more time with her, or her phone died, there are tons of possibilities for why she hasn't gotten back to you."
"No. She knows I'll be waiting for her and she would never make me wait for her on purpose. Something is off. I can feel it." Daniel and Barbara sighed as they stood up and Daniel took control of the conversation.
"I'm sure everything is fine sweetheart. It's been a very long day so we're going to bed and I suggest you do the same. Then, when Callie calls it'll wake you up and you'll feel better."
"Alright, alright. Thanks you guys. I'll head up now." Barbara and Daniel went into their room as Arizona sulked her way up the steps and into her room. With one last longing glance at her cell phone she got into bed and apparently was more tired than she realized because she quickly fell asleep.
Sure enough she woke up almost an hour later to the sound of her phone going off. She scrambled out of bed and over to the desk she left it on and saw a picture of Callie and herself lighting up the screen. She quickly accepted the call and started shooting off her mouth.
"Calliope, it's 11:47. That's over two hours of me not hearing from you. I'm sure you were with your family, and they're very important and all, but I was starting to worry that you forgot. I know we didn't set a time or anything, but- oh my god I have gone bonkers. My parents were looking at me like I was crazy an hour ago and now this...I was really anxious though." Callie couldn't help but grin as she tried to hold in her laughter. She didn't want to dismiss Arizona's feelings in the slightest, but she was also so damn cute.
"I'm sorry Mariposa. I would have called sooner if I could have." Although she managed to hold back her laughter Arizona could still hear it in her voice.
"This is not funny Callie. We didn't talk since this morning and then you didn't answer and I started to feel funny. So I didn't have my brother here, I didn't have you here, and it's Christmas and it didn't even snow! What kind of rip off is that?" Callie couldn't stop her laughter this time and it served to upset Arizona further as she let out an exacerbated "Callie!"
"I'm sorry, it's just, it is snowing." Because Arizona was so annoyed she didn't make much sense of what Callie was trying to tell her.
"Oh, so you took the time to look up Boston's weather before calling your concerned girlfriend?" Callie was going to have to get this situation under control before it got any worse.
"Actually, I didn't have to look it up. Arizona, honey, look out your window, the one that faces the street. Please." Arizona was not in the mood to look at the snow or really do much at all right now, but her girlfriend wanted her to and if taking the few steps to her window would please her love she wouldn't hesitate to. "Oh, and look down." Arizona looked out the window and looked down as she was instructed and found her girlfriend right there in front of her house with the snow coming down all around her. As soon as she made eye contact with her girlfriend Callie waved up at her and gave her a huge smile. "Surprise! Merry Christmas, baby." Callie heard a loud bang as she watched the blonde curls she loved so much disappear from the window. "Arizona? Arizona?" When she didn't get a response she assumed the noise she had heard was the phone crashing to the floor so she hung up and put her phone away just in time to see the front door of the house fly open. Arizona had made thrown on her jacket and boots on her way out the door and after she flung the door open and she could see Callie right in front of her she felt a surge of emotions. She slowly stalked over to where her girlfriend was standing on her snow covered lawn and stopped in front of her. They could see each breath they let out between them and gazed at each other another moment before Arizona gently brought her hand up and with one finger dusted a snowflake off the tip of Callie's nose. Instead of lowering her hand she ran her finger across Callie's full lip, up her cheek, and into her dark hair. She was in a complete trance until Callie started talking.
"I want to show you something. It kind of explains how I'm here right now, but I don't want to disturb your parents or anything so how about I show it to you tomorrow when I come back?" That sobered Arizona right up.
"'Come back?' You just got here what are you talking about?"
"I wasn't sure how your parents would feel about your girlfriend spending the night so I figured I'd go to a hotel. I just wanted to see you on Christmas so we have about five minutes left of it. Then if you're not busy I was hoping I'd hang around for two days so we could be together for our anniversary. I know it's only one month and maybe you're not into celebrating something that short, but –"
"Of course I want to celebrate and there's no way you're staying at some hotel. You'll stay here with me so I can soak up as much of you as possible. Don't even try to fight me on this." She gave Callie a hard glare that silenced anything she might have said. "Now, give me a kiss because Christmas is almost over and you're all I wanted." Arizona's hand was still in Callie's hair so as Callie leaned into her she pulled her the rest of the way and they connected their lips. After this time apart so early in their relationship they were both ecstatic to be together again. The feeling of wet snow drops hitting her face brought Callie out of their kiss, causing her to look around them.
"It's so beautiful here. I can't believe it's snowing!" Arizona looked around them as well and thought about how grateful she was that she was in this position right now.
"Tell me about it. I can't believe I just got a white Christmas with my gorgeous girlfriend." She pecked Callie's lips. The adrenaline from all the excitement was starting to wear off and Arizona was starting to get very cold, which of course her loving girlfriend realized.
"Babe, you're freezing. Let's go inside."
"I won't argue with you there, but I hope you have very warm clothes packed because we are going to be in this snow tomorrow." Callie hadn't been sure what the weather was supposed to be like, but she had packed snow clothes just in case because she knew if it did snow her girlfriend would be dragging her out in it.
"You know it. Now let's get your cute tush back into bed." Arizona grabbed Callie's bag off the ground and they quietly entered the house and went up to Arizona's room. They both took off their outerwear and Callie took their book of things to do together out of her bag and handed it to Arizona as they sat on her bed. Arizona read Callie's face and opened the book looking for something that was newly crossed out. As she got towards the end she saw, "Tell parents & friends about relationship." Her head shot up to look at Callie for confirmation which she receiving with an affirmative nod.
"What happened? Is everything okay? Oh no, did you get kicked out? You got kicked out, that's it isn't it? It's okay. We can manage this, you'll just stay here. I can't believe you got kicked out by your own family." She couldn't stop the thoughts from coming and it made sense in her slightly panicked mind that maybe Callie showed up at her door in the middle of the night because she was thrown out of her own house. Callie had said she was here for the holiday, but what if she was really homeless now because of their relationship? That would be a lot to handle. Thankfully Callie cut her off before she went into a full blown panic.
"My family didn't kick me out you nut. In fact, apparently we were pretty transparent at my house because my family has suspected that we were together since then. Aria told me this one night and said that they got their confirmation of it because my dad overheard me talking to you and I said something that made it concrete. I talked to my dad about it, about us, and he's accepted it. According to Aria since that day at my house he sought out the church and literature to help him understand and accept the whole situation. He flew me out here to see you actually, but I'll get back to that. My mom is in some sort of denial so don't be surprised if she doesn't look at either of us at New Years. Aria loves it though. I showed her a bunch of pictures and she thinks we're just about the cutest thing ever." Arizona was so proud of her girlfriend for coming out to her family. She remembered that feeling before she had and it's probably one of the scariest things a person can do. She wasn't thrilled with Lucia Torres right now, but she was sure surprised by Carlos. She was thankful Callie had at least one of her parent's support. She honestly didn't think it would go this well when Callie did come out and she had never been so happy to be proven wrong.
"This is amazing Calliope, I'm so proud of you. This is huge, like wow, yay! So, your dad flew you up here?"
"Last night when I was talking to Aria about how much I missed you and how much it hurt to be away from you, my dad came in and asked what I was talking about. That's what started it. I told him that you and I were hurting because we missed each other and that's when I told him about us, and then my mom. Then today after dinner he pulled me aside and told me that he got me one last gift. He told me to pack a bag and that a car was waiting to take me to our jet so I could come see you. I told him about our upcoming anniversary so he told me I could stay up here until early the morning after before flying back down. Then three days later we'll be meeting in the city." Callie had been thrilled when her dad told her that he had done this for her and as surprised as she was she had decided to just go with it and not question his generosity.
"Wow. No offence, but your dad is definitely my favorite Torres parent right now."
"None taken, he's mine too. So, since you're all caught up on my end, I need to catch up with you."
"Calliope, we talk multiple times a day every day. Nothing has really happened since the last time we talked." They had given each other play by plays of everything they did over break. They talked so much that they barely had anything to do and if one did something the other knew about it, except Callie's coming out and her flight to Boston, but those happened just hours ago.
"So you haven't picked a movie for us to watch together? We don't even need phones this time."
"Of course I did. We're watching The Family Stone." Arizona put the dvd in the player attached to her tv and started it after Callie changed into her pajamas. They got into bed and Arizona cuddled against Callie's chest as they watched the movie and fell asleep.
