As Daniel left, my next candidate entered the room. He was older and slightly balding, and had far more confidence — arrogance? — than I had hoped for.

"I'm Hannah Abbott, new owner of the Leaky Cauldron." He at least deserved a chance.

"Niall Sempis," he said, giving me a dead fish when I attempted to shake his hand. "Aren't you a tad young to be running this place?"

I only barely contained a huff. "Perhaps, but I have experience here that has prepared me for the job. Tom was a quiet man, but he didn't make rash decisions."

Niall grunted. I could already tell he wouldn't be a satisfactory employee; there was no respect for a younger boss. Still, I had to be fair. "Tell me about your experience with bar tending."

"It's minimal. I'd need training; your ad said it would be provided to any employees you hire. But I do like to drink, and I can tell a good drink from a bad one."

I nodded, unconvinced. "What would make you a good candidate for the job?"

He looked as if he was pleased with the direction this interview was going. "I already told you, I'm familiar with my alcohol. I appreciate it, too, which you should know that quite a few people don't."

I pressed my lips into a thin line. "Why are you interested in this position, Niall?"

He finally smiled. "I'm hoping to learn the ropes of the tavern so that, when you get tired of it, you have someone you can trust to sell it to. Someone who's been trained to run it right, who you know cares for it as much as you do."

"Someone like yourself," I finished for him. The look on his face almost made me puke.

"Exactly like myself," he said. "And it doesn't hurt that the current employees are some of the most beautiful ladies I've ever met."

Thoroughly creeped out, I rushed to end the interview. "Thank you for your time, Niall. I have to check your references, and I'll get back to you within the week."

He stood, looking upset. "You asked the last guy in here to mix a drink."

I almost panicked, until I remembered something. "He already has experience. You don't. I needed to see if he's up to our standards or would have to relearn everything."

Satisfied, my worst interviewee of the day turned and left. He would most certainly not be getting this job.
