Chapter 5 -Knight in a butler's uniform-

Miku's POV,

I turned the bronze knob of the butler's quarters. I peeked and found no one inside the spacious room. I tiptoed to the farthest bed, Len's bed. Once I reached it, I immediately searched for Len's phone. Luckily, I found it lying underneath Len's pillow. I flipped it open and looked for Rin's number. I had already considered Rin's suggestion of opening up to her (since I don't know how to open up to Len) and had thought of talking to Rin through the phone (since I'm too lazy to go see her in personal). I typed 'Rin' and once I found Rin's number, I saved it in my phone and called her. Ring, ring, my phone sounded as I pressed my phone lightly to my ears.

"Hello, this is Kagamine Rin, speaking. Who is this?" that cute, high-pitched voice answered the call. Whoo! She answered! I lied down on Len's bed, feeling giddy and childish, after all, it's the first time that a friend of mine answered my call. I smiled, realizing that.

"Rin-chan, it's me, Miku-desu!" I answered, sounding so childish. A fanfiction writer as my best friend... Isn't that great?

"Miku-chan, why did you call?"

"A-ah, nothing. I just want to try calling a friend, I guess." I answered embarassingly.

"Hmmm... I don't believe you, Miku-chan. You want to talk about my younger brother, aren't you? Don't worry, he's all yours. I'm not going to let any other girl steal her from you." Rin teased. My face went red after hearing those words.

"W-what are you talking about?! It's not about that! I just want to have some girl talk with a friend!," I answered in a loud voice, protesting to her last statement.

"THIS is girl talk. Now, where are we? So you want to know Len's favorite food, color, clothes, perfume, shoes, movie, anime, song, singer and undies?"

"Hell no! Not this sort of girl talk! I mean the serious one not the weird one!" I protested once again.

"I am serious...though I admit I'm admit that I'm a bit weird. You know Miku-chan, Len loves bananas and he likes moe-"

"Please stop it! It's annoying!" I screamed to the phone after realizing that Rin won't stop this nonsense. Why did I chose a weird person to become my friend? Rin laughed loudly on the phone.

"Haha! It's so fun to annoy you, Miku-chan. Ah, I need to finish my assignment. Please take care of my younger brother, okay? He likes you for sure since he really likes moe-" I closed the phone before she could finish speaking. My first phone call with a friend isn't fun! Rin's so annoying! As if I wanted to know those things! I rolled over to the side and saw the banana strap of Len's phone. I see... He likes bananas. I should buy some for him tomorrow. Realizing what I just thought, I shook my head and rolled to the other side. What was I thinking?! I'm not going to fall to Rin's trap! There's no way that I'm going to like a tardy butler! I sighed, feeling so tired and sleepy after thinking about a lot of things. I yawned and slowly drifted to sleep.

Len's POV,

Ah, finally... I'm done with my cleaning duties... time to sleep...

I went straight to the butler's quarters. I opened the door and expected that I would see the other butlers but there was no one inside. Oh well... I stretched my arms and yawned. With my eyes half-shut, I rushed to my bed and lied down.

I saw something greenish-blue and white in front of me but it was all blurred. I blinked and tried to focus my vision on what's in front of me. Teal hair... Fair, white skin... Oh, it's Miku. My eyes widened. It's Miku-sama! Miku-sama is sleeping on my bed! But why? How? What will I do?

I hastily went out of the bed, still shocked and surprised (and on my manly side, happy and speechless). My cheeks went red, knowing that Miku is sleeping on my bed. Miku-sama is really pretty...she's so cute. I shook my head hard. No! Miku is my master! I shouldn't fantasize her or else she'll kill me! I don't want to be punched again by a girl because she thinks that I'm a pervert!

I stood up after deciding that I should just leave. I glanced at Miku one more time. I stared at her sleeping face, so innocent...so pure. I want to stay by her side...I want to... Protect her. I knelt in front of the bed and placed my blanket around Miku's body. I gently kissed her forehead before standing up once again. I left the quarters to drink a glass of water. I smiled before drinking a glass of cold water.

"Intruder alert! Thieves have entered the mansion!," a butler announced loudly, sounding like he's in a panic. I dropped the glass of water and headed to the butler's quarters where Miku gently slept. I lose my

focus on everything around me and just thought about Miku. What if something bad happened to her? What if someone attacked her? I shook my head, trying to perish such negative thoughts. But I can't help it! I'm worried... I'm scared to lose her! She's my master and I have to protect her! As her butler, I shall protect her and become her knight!

I reached for the door knob of the butler's quarters and immediately opened the door.

"MIKU-SAMA!," I shouted, fury and anger for the intruders surfaced inside me. I saw three, masked thieves frightening the awakened and scared Miku. One of the thieves was holding her wrist tightly and I could clearly see that she's crying. I ran and punched the thief grabbing Miku by the wrist, hard. The thief flew out of the glass window, letting go of Miku's swollen wrist.

The other two thieves looked at me and took out their weapons from their pocket. One held a sharp pocket knife and started to attack me. I dodged his knife and stopped him by the wrist. I twisted his arm and threw him outside the window. The last guy looked at me with a frightened expression on his face. He nervously pointed the gun at me, his fingers shakily holding it firmly.

"Go on... Shoot me if you can." I challenged him. He gulped and pulled the trigger. I avoided the bullet and quickly kicked the gun from his hand. His eyes widened with shock and fear, realizing that he's defenseless. Seeing that black cloth of mask on that guy's face, made me so furious because it reminded me of the tears that fell from Miku's eyes because of how they frightened her. I suddenly lose my self-control. That scene of Miku crying because of them frightening her keeps on flashing in my mind. The thief stepped backward, his knees shaking in fright. Miku looked at me, her eyes swollen from tears. I clenched my fist tightly and landed a blow on the right side of his face with my knuckles.

"This one is for invading the house I'm serving!"

I punched him once more but now on the left side.

"This one is for making me break that glass I was drinking from!"

He looked so pathetic. His cheeks were hollow and swollen. But I don't care about this guy. I'm not done yet.

I gave him an uppercut that sure made him fall to the ground.

"And that one was for making Miku-sama cry!" I spoke out loud, so loud that the other butlers heard me and came inside the butler's quarters to take the thieves to jail. Once the thieves were arrested, I was left standing in the room,

still furious at the thieves. Warm arms wrapped around my waist from the back. I looked at those arms that took my anger away. I felt Miku's head lean on my back. I blushed, feeling her warmth. I closed my eyes, savoring this rare and precious moment. There was a long moment of silence between us and then she softly said, "Thank you, my knight."
