Chapter 8: Exploring the unknown
So after our little argument, Midna finally went quiet since I had given my word that I will now follow her every order—of course, we all know that is a lie. Being the "smart" shadow imp, Midna automatically knew that I was lying.
Oh well, sucks to be her.
Anyways, I continued to climb the path that led to the temple of where I had to rescue Talo and the monkey. This time, instead of having two huge heavy boulders, it now had a spider web that blocked the entrance. It looked as though it was to hard to rip it apart—I had tried it by using my sword.
"Use your lantern, stupid." Midna mumbled.
I rolled my eyes and used the lantern which burnt the tough web.
"Stupid, stupid, stupid." Midna taunted, making me to growl.
"Shut it." I growled, hearing her snickering.
The moment I entered the temple, I instantly wished I hadn't. The aroma was horrible. It was a mixture of something moldy and rotten. Almost as if something had died and had decomposed for decayed.
Midna cringed at the horrible smell. "Ew. Let's just hurry up and finish what we have to do here. The smell is terrible."
"For once, I agree with you." I replied through my plugged nose.
The long path was starting to be worn out as the walls had cracks and old lines that looked like it was about to give out any time now. There were two poles ahead while vines that represented like a ladder. Small patches of grass were scattered throughout the temple while occasionally having a few platforms that were attached to the side of the well as well as vines.
Well, I pretty much described of what a forest temple looked like.
Sighing, I trekked the path only to meet a deku baba that sprung out of its spot when I had reached the end of the path. I quickly killed it along with the moblin that supposedly "guarded" the cage. In the cage, contained the monkey.
The monkey jumped up and down as if it was saying thanks for saving me before climbing up the vine, dodging the poisonous spiders that crawled on the vine.
"Hey! That's the monkey that stole your lantern!" Midna responded, coming out of my shadow. "Doesn't it look like she's beckoning you? Aren't you the popular one? Eee hee!"
Ignoring her, I killed them with the slingshot then climbed up and saw that the monkey was beckoning me to follow it. I opened the heavy rounded door and went inside.
A windy breeze blew in from nowhere as I continued to go straight through the new room and then soon found myself standing on another platform that had an extended path. When I climbed the second set of stairs, a Skulltula fell down from its web and it started to advance on me.
However, I quickly reacted by performing a spin attack which caused the enemy to recoil back in pain before it decided to try to attack me again. I was quick enough of course and killed the spider within seconds. I hadn't noticed when that the monkey was squealing with fear but it soon recovered itself after the spider was spilling its blood.
I noticed how there were four unlit torches, circling the platform so I got to think that maybe if I lit them, something would be triggered. Going with that idea (since that was on the only idea available right now), I lit up the torches and my theory was confirmed when a hidden path suddenly rose from the ground.
Continuing up the path led me to a new room after I rolled the door opened. The room took outside as it had a long bridge that stretched to the other side and a windy breeze that flew by, hoping to knock off its intruder. There was also another path that was diagonally ahead of me.
The monkey quickly darted off towards the bridge but then the animal stopped, squeaking with shock as another of its kind came on the path. However, it seemed to be more menacing since it threw the weapon, cutting the ropes of the bridge. A loud snap echoed throughout the environment which caused me to widen my eyes.
Quick as lighting, the bridge fell down, broken in half while it took the monkey. The baboon seemed to laugh at its misfortune. I never left my gaze whereas my heart was hammering fast and questions zoomed into my mind, mainly about was the monkey alright? I breathed out a sigh of relief when the monkey climbed up the broken bridge though it let out a defeated sigh.
As if it had gotten another idea, the creature walked towards the door as it jumped up and down, indicating that it wants me to follow her.
"Oh! What's going on? Has there been a monkey fight?!" Midna exclaimed though I could tell she wasn't really worried. "Oh no! Now we can't go any farther. We might as well go back. I don't know what's going on, but it seems like she wants to take you somewhere, so maybe you should just follow her."
"Really?" I asked, sarcastically. "I had no idea."
Sneering, she went back to hide into my shadow. Rolling my eyes, I followed the monkey until she stopped once we turned to the right. She then hopped off the edge, flipping through the air until her paws were on the rope which left her monkey hands available.
I took a few steps back so that I could give myself a good distance and when it was good enough, I started to run.
"Link, wait!" Midna suddenly called out.
"Wha?" distracted by the sudden call, I tripped over a loose board from the wooden floor, making me to fall down. I would've stopped myself on time but I couldn't since her call had taken me by surprise.
"Oww…" I whined, rubbing my side when I fell on the side of my body. I glared at Midna who was desperately trying not to laugh.
"You did that on purpose!" I exclaimed, hastily getting myself up.
She lost it: Midna laughed hysterically while I went back up to try it again.
"Oh yes, very funny." I responded, sarcastically.
"But you should've seen your face!" she gasped through her breaths.
Sneering, I ignored her and this time, I had successfully reached the other side. The monkey (I should really give her a name) darted to the door, indicating that I should open it which I did.
My side was still really sore from the unexpected fall. I wasn't happy at all from that cruel prank she pulled. I grinned evilly while Midna glanced at me here and there, questioning about my sanity.
She better watch her back.
"Link!" the sharp voice pulled me out of my trance though a sharp pain exploded in my body, causing me to nearly see stars.
I grunted when I felt something uncomfortable so I looked down and saw that I had gotten a wound from the wicked deku baba that was beside the small flight of stairs.
I quickly destroyed the deku baba before it can bite me again. Suddenly, the world began to spin around, forcing me to fall to the ground. I groaned with discomfort as I placed my palm on my forehead as if that will help me to stop the world spinning. The wound that was nearly beside my neck; it didn't really help that the blood was still spilling out.
I tried to fight my eyes so that they could stay open but they were stubborn. As I was slowly losing my vision, Midna was too busy lecturing me of how stupid I was…
So what else is new?
I passed out.
"Ohh give me a break, will you?!" I exclaimed when I had finally woken up.
"No! You were stupid and you are going to be even stupider throughout our little journey." Midna chastised me.
I rolled my eyes. "Didn't know you cared."
"I…" the imp faltered before having a snide tone. "I don't! Now, drink this."
I cringed. "No. The water is disgusting! It's war—choke—"I gasped when the disgusting water was forced down my throat. I sputtered the water out, soaking the top tunic.
"The hell was that for?" I asked, angrily.
Midna smirked. "Sucks to be you. Now gather up your wits and let's go!"
Groaning, I heaved myself up. I had only noticed that the monkey was covering with fear, seeing that the large spider had dropped down from the ceiling. Quickly, I sprinted to the monkey's rescue to defeat the spider with the slingshot. The spider was de-attached from its string, letting itself to clumsily fall into the water below.
I then continued to follow the monkey but only realized that the door in which she wanted to go was locked. Thinking, I went to the door that was available and went in though I was met with another windy breeze. However, the windy breeze seemed to blow the platform that was ahead of me.
It triggered the propeller, making it to rotate around so that the path can be accessible. I jogged up the path to reach the other side where I had entered in a new location. The smell in the atmosphere seemed to be getting thicker, creating it much worse than it was before. Since the path ahead of me was inaccessible, I turned to the right to grab a key from the chest.
I then exited out of the place entirely so that I had met up with the monkey. Going to the locked door (only to be unlocked), I entered the new place of the temple. The new place also took outside but it held no breeze. The monkey quickly spotted its friend since it raced down the path and climbed up the pole.
It screeched while it placed its paws on the bars as if in an attempt to break it but it was futile. I went down the path and crossed the bridge but when I reached the other side, the bridge made a snap which caused me to look at it as it fell down.
I continued the path until I reached the trapped monkey. Using the sword and the slingshot was out of option so the only option was that I had use myself. I took a few steps back then rolled, feeling myself hitting the pole hard. The pole shook from the impact though the cage didn't break.
I did it the second time and this time, it worked since the cage fell back down releasing the male monkey who jumped with joy. The sweet reunion unfortunately had lasted when two unwelcoming inhuman yells erupted the place. I looked up and saw two moblins up at the cliff and they jumped down, not liking the fact that I had set the monkey loose.
I ignored Midna's comment which was "don't get killed" followed by a snicker. I quickly did a jump attack on the first moblin, sending it flying through the air and fell to the ground. The spin attack was followed, striking the second moblin. Before I could use the ending blow on the first fallen moblin, the first moblin got back up.
This time, I performed another jump attack which had ended the moblin leaving the only the second one. The last moblin tried to attack me but I ducked down and then I used the stab.
Panting with exhaustion, I rested my hands on my knees and I just let myself to catch my breath. After that, I followed the two happy monkeys to where the broken bridge was. They themselves provided me a path so like before (and without Midna's false call), I made it to the other side.
This was getting fun.
I got back to the main chamber only to cross yet another path. I burned down the web, creating an available entrance. I went through the door and out in the new part of the temple. This got me to think that maybe this temple was the monkeys' home. It does make sense since they knew this place inside and out.
I defeated a pinkish red deku baba so that I could go up the stairs to do some things such as jumping over the ledge to reach the other side. However, things didn't really go that great since I had fallen down only to be in the inside of a flower eating creature.
It was disgusting really. The flower still chewed but it didn't like the taste of humans since it threw me out, letting me to be covered with slime.
Ewwwww…
Midna placed her hand over her mouth as if in attempt to not let herself to puke by the disgusting scene.
"Ew, ew. Ew, ew." I muttered, trying to get the revolting green slime off.
"You went and got yourself nearly eaten." Midna rolled her eyes at my stupidity.
"I don't even want to know what would happen if I did got ingested." I mumbled, cringing.
Evilly, Midna began to explain. "First you will be swollen, slowly having the acid burning your flesh skin and then it will turn into a disgustingly color."
"Midna stop." I exclaimed, feeling sick to the stomach already.
But she ignored me. Apparently she enjoyed seeing me sick…"And then worms will wriggle—EWWWW! LINKKKKK!"
Yeap…I lost it…
I threw up and she wasn't happy one bit.
Author's Note: *grins* Midna deserved it XD any thoughts on this chapter?
