Port Charles Asteroid

An asteroid is heading towards Port Charles, and experts predict unless they find a way to push the asteroid off course, it will hit the small town by April 2024. Can experts destroy it before it wipes out Port Charles and General Hospital?

This fan fiction follows my recent story of Elizabeth 2022. You do not need to read, but it would help. I haven't followed most of General Hospital and only get cliff notes. If General Hospital were to end, this is my story. New characters from the "Elizabeth 2022" story are not included. Some will be heroes, and others will not survive.

* Cam, Joss, Spencer, and Trina live in an off-campus apartment together

*Esme and Nikolas never slept together.

* Jerry Jacks killed Esme, and a not-dead Zander killed Jerry.

* Jason is working with Sonny but works in the Coffee House and manages the men, but he is no longer Sonny's enforcer.

* Since Elizabeth and Jason are together, Carly finally accepts her in Jason's life.

The story starts in the future. Jason and Elizabeth got married in mid-June 2023. In late July, they moved into Audrey's old house after she moved into an assisted living home. They have been married for a couple of months since returning from their long-awaited honeymoon trip to Italy.

Chapter 1

Lucky is visiting from Ireland and staying with Laura and Kevin at the Mayor's Mansion. Aiden is with his father while Lucky is in town.

It is Sunday, and Elizabeth and Jason have plans to spend the day with Jake. They are sleeping in, and the phone rings. Elizabeth answers, "hello? Monica? Is everything alright? Do you need to speak with Jason? It's my day off; why do you need me to come in? Can't you call someone else? What? Oh my God, I am so sorry. No, I understand. I'll need to jump in the shower and will be there soon. Yes, it's a significant loss. We will both be there."

Jason is listening to Elizabeth's side of the story. She is distraught. His hand is on hers, and he waits until she hangs up the phone. He asks, "what's wrong?"

Elizabeth replies…

They dress quickly, leave a note for Jake explaining everything, and rush to General Hospital. Monica is waiting for them….

Jason and Elizabeth arrive, and several nurses and doctors surround the Hub on the 10th-floor station. The nurses are crying and hugging each other. Monica and Terry approach Jason and Elizabeth. Terry hugs Elizabeth and says, "it was a heart attack. She didn't show up to work, and I sent Cassius to check on her after calls were unanswered. A neighbor let him in after he showed identification, and Epiphany was on the floor. She was unresponsive. Attempts to revive were unsuccessful. By the time the ambulance arrived, they had pronounced her. She is in the morgue, but by all appearances, the cause of death is a heart attack."

Elizabeth says, "Terry, Monica, I am so sorry. Epiphany was a shining example of what nurses should be. She held high expectations for all of us. She taught me so much, and we will all miss her."

Monica says, "Jason, thank you for coming. I know Epiphany was fond of you."

Jason replies, "I liked her too. She helped me out of a few jams over the years."

Monica looks at Elizabeth and says, "Elizabeth, I need you to help me make some calls. Britt already left town with Austin, and we are short-handed. You are second in line after Epiphany, and while I know you are dividing your time between skilled nursing at your grandmother's assisted living facility and working as a scrub nurse here, I hope you can put in some extra hours. I've divided up this list. Terry and I will call most of the doctors, and I will contact the board members, though I think Nikolas would rather hear the news from you. When Bobbie arrives, she has a list too. I will also need you to take over the nurse's schedules."

Elizabeth looks at her list and replies, "of course. Anything you need me to do, I will. I'll clear my schedule for the week at the assisted living facility. If you don't need me at the Hub, I'd like to make these calls in a conference room." Elizabeth kisses Jason and adds, "I'm sorry about today; you don't need to be here. I'm sure Jake would love to spend time with you."

Jason kisses her and watches her walk away. He speaks briefly with Monica and leaves.

Before Elizabeth leaves to change into her scrubs and find an empty conference room, Monica adds, "I'm sending a mass email this afternoon, and tomorrow there will be a staff meeting. Can you help plan a service for her later? Elizabeth nods and holds back her tears.

Her list consists of the following:

Laura

Robin and Patrick

Nikolas

All the nurses she supervises (the remainder were left for Bobbie to call)

The aides scheduled for today

Elizabeth hangs up the phone after delivering the news to Laura. She speaks with Lucky and asks him to tell Aiden she loves him. She sighs deeply and dials the phone. "Robin? It's Elizabeth. Is Patrick there? I have some terrible news you both need to hear."

Shortly before Jason and Elizabeth married, the Scorpio-Drake family moved from California to Maryland and New Jersey. Robin and Patrick took jobs at John Hopkins University and the hospital, and Emma is a senior at Princeton and taking pre-med courses.

Elizabeth says, "Monica called me this morning. Epiphany Johnson had a heart attack last night or this morning. She died. I wanted to be the one to tell you. There will be a service later, and I'll let you know the details. I'm sorry too. Her death is a massive loss to General Hospital."

Elizabeth finishes the rest of her calls, speaking with Nikolas last. "I am sorry to inform you that Epiphany died of a heart attack today. Monica will communicate with all board members, and an announcement will come later. Thank you, I'll let you know if I need anything."

Elizabeth leans back against her chair and sighs. Jason knocks on the door entering with Jake and take-out from Kelly's. He sets the food on the table, kisses her forehead, and asks, "how are you? Is there anything you need from me?"

Elizabeth smiles and replies, "no, I'm finished with my calls. I must work on schedules, but I can do those at home. Did you call and give Cam the news?"

Jason says, "yes, I called Cam and told him, Joss, Spencer, and Trina. I also called Sonny and Carly. Cam said he'd stop over at the house tonight."

Jake walks to his mom and hugs her. Elizabeth holds him tight and says, "thanks, I needed that. Give me a few minutes, and I'll grab my things from my locker, and I can eat this later."

They leave the hospital, saying goodbye to the quiet and somber staff.

A service is planned, and the WSB has serious news.
