Chapter 31: If you believe
"Uh…Needs…more punch, uh!" he stopped to sniff the air. "Uh! What good smell!" of course, he had to turn to face me. "What you have, uh?!"
Like before, the two hands rammed me at the side which knocked me down to the ground. I gave out a yelp at the harsh pain that collided with my broken shoulder and the cracked ribs.
Damn, it hurts.
I groaned, trying to ease the pain that entered the ribs.
"Mmm! Perfect ingredient, uh! Little more time on fire, it become gourmet soup, uh! Here! Taste, uh!"
Don't mind if I do…
I walked to the large box that stood by the cauldron and I climbed on it so that I can take taste the soup. Using my empty bottle, I scooped some soup and drank it. I can instantly feel my tense muscles being relaxed the moment the warmth of the soup entered my body.
Strange.
It felt like it was healing some of my broken ribs…or maybe that was just me. But anyways, I felt good as new so I decided to take some more and save it for later.
"I think I remember, uh!" Yeta exclaimed once she spotted me.
Good.
"We put key in nearby room, so no forgetting, uh. How I forget? Embarrassing, uh."
I smiled at her. "It's okay."
"It there. It must be, uh! You look for me!"
I nodded. But before I go, there was something I needed to do.
Ashei stared into the fire until she could see a figure's shadow in the fire. She knew it was me which was why she didn't made any contact.
"Ashei." I started then waited to see if I can have a response.
"Um…I just want to say I'm sorry." I shrugged a little, not really sure on how to start. "I just…didn't want you to get even more hurt."
No response.
I sighed. "Well…I guess I gotta go."
I walked to the door—the very last door—and stopped for a few seconds to see if Ashei would even budge. But when she didn't, I went in.
However, the moment I went away, Ashei looked at me before whispering.
"I'm sorry too, Link." she whispered.
"Little Ashei." Ashei turned around to look at Yeta.
"Yes?"
"Come over, uh. Human upset. Tell Yeta."
Ashei smiled then shook her head. "Nah, it's nothing. It'll be fine."
"Yeta insist. There a saying, uh. Talk out and feel better."
The girl chuckled a bit. "Yeah…" but as soon as she turned her head to look at Yeta, Ashei suddenly felt herself being in some sort of a trance. Yeta's appearance changed drastically since the once nice loving face was soon replaced by an evil red-eye demon's face.
Suddenly, Ashei felt a sharp gasp escaping from her mouth and she scrambled backwards once she spotted the demon's face. Her blood ran cold at the sight of it and looked at the door.
The only thing that ran through her mind was Link. I didn't know about this…
"Link…" Ashei scrambled up and grabbed her weapons that laid on the floor and darted towards the door in which I went through.
"Human not find her friend." the demon replied, menacingly. As soon as she reached the door, a thick, grate slid down locking the door.
"No!" Ashei banged her fist on the locked door and tried to open but it was futile.
"Link!" she shouted. "Get out of there! Link!" she banged her fist on the door as she hoped that I could hear her.
Ashei gave out a sudden gasp when she saw the demon Yeta right beside her. Well, floating beside her. She withdrew her weapon, placing it in front of her.
"You're going have to go through me if you want to get to Link." Ashei stated, boldly.
The demon threw out a bone-chilling laugh that caused the girl to shiver.
"Cute human defend friend. Why defend friend when the human is mad?"
Ashei stared at the demon before her gaze fell on the floor. Why was she defending me if she was still mad at me? Shouldn't she not defend me?
"You're wrong! Link's still my friend!" Ashei shouted before she started to charge at the fiend with her sword raised up.
When she was about to plunge the sword, the brute dodged it almost gracefully which caused Ashei to stumble forward a bit but she didn't waste a second since the girl automatically turned around. The demon gave out another laugh which made the warrior to go after her but when the monster raised her hand, a swirling black ball of energy started to form around her hand.
The ball then collided at the stomach at Ashei and that caused her to fly back through the air only to painfully smash at the wall then fell down like a limp ragged doll that became unconscious.
The only sound that filled the room was the demon's laugh as she hovered above the unconscious Ashei.
-Me-
Harsh cold wind bit right at me when I was at a long narrow-ish path though it looked like it was a two-way path since another path was formed and it looked like that the lower path seemed to be going to a different floor but it wasn't.
Ahead of me was also a ladder but at the top of the ladder stood the pesky Freezard but I ignored it for now since I went to pick up the cannon ball and then trekked back so that I could put the ball into the lever.
I then entered the room and picked the ball up once I pulled down the lever. Because the two Freezards were destroyed by me, it was easier for me to go up the circular path without any problems.
But I had to destroy the ice blocks in order for me to reach the cannon. Of course, there were two Ice Keeses but then again they were quickly killed. However, there were two large crates that looked like it was blocking the path (that was far ahead of me) so I didn't fire the ball and went to the hallway in which it had a long red carpet.
Of course, the door just happened to be locked so I went out of the hallway and saw a door that was to the right of the cannon; I went to that one.
A Chilfos greeted me since it threw its spear though I swiftly blocked it by placing my shield in front of me and then I went to kill it by doing a jump attack. Once that was done, I used the Ball and Chain to destroy an ice block which revealed a target. Then, I used the handy dandy item to smash at the chandelier-like object so that it was swinging back and forth.
I made it safely to the other side and then grabbed the item from the chest which was a key. Like many times, I went back to the other side by using the clawshot with my good arm.
I got out of the room and it was then, that I was able to unlock the locked door that contained the long, red carpet so I went through the entrance after opening the door.
I shivered from the cold so I looked to my right to see an ice block which I destroyed it with the Ball and Chain. A Chilfos was on the other side so I eyed it carefully once I hit the chandelier and jumped on it. However, because of the strong throw, the spear—in which the Chilfos threw at me—knocked me down and I was just lucky to grab on the edge of the swinging chandelier.
Quickly scrambling up (while wincing about the pull from my shoulder), the Chilfos was destroyed from the Ball and chain as it made a clear path for me. I jumped to where the Chilfos once stood and proceeded to go through the door which led me to a new room.
The new room was filled nothing but lots of ice that were from the walls to the floor while there was a big opening patch at the ceiling, allowing flurries of snow to gently fall in. Of course, there had to be many mini-Freezards that still roamed around aimlessly. I didn't want to deal with them so I hastily dodged them and went through the door's entrance that was in this room.
I was soon at a "room" that had harsh wind, three Chilfos, ice blocks and a snowy ground that was below me though, I knew I was at the upper part.
"We don't have a long way to go, do we?" Midna asked, getting out of my shadow.
"No (grunt) we don't (grunt)." I replied through the grunts.
"What the heck are you doing?" Midna quizzed while staring at me with a dumb-founded look.
"Trying to lift this stupid Ball and Chain. Mind you, I have a broken shoulder so it's not a walk in the park." I muttered. "Stupid thing! Why do you have to be so heavy!?"
I kicked the ball which was a very bad idea because I was yelping in pain once the pain entered through my foot. Midna sighed at my stupidity while I clutched my injured foot.
"You know what? How about I just hold it for you?" she suggested. With a snap of her fingers, the deathly weapon disappeared into particles.
I muttered under my breath, causing Midna to roll her eyes. She was about to go back into my shadow until something caught her attention. The imp stared at the snowy ground that was below us. She could've sworn she had seen something…The Twili waited for a few minutes until her eyes went wide.
On the snow, it had footprints that seemed to be popping out of thin air. It looked like it was walking straight then stopped as it was now turning to Midna's direction. She gaped at it until the thing made itself visible. It looked like a figure which made Midna to scream and quickly flew to me who was cursing at the stubborn Chilfos that won't die.
Midna's heart raced faster than before. That was weird. We were supposed to be the only ones here…not that…figure…whoever it was.
Midna looked back to see if the spooky figure was still there but it wasn't. It had disappeared as if it had never existed as well as the footprints.
"Hey, you okay? You look a little pale." I noted at the odd reaction from Midna.
"Um I'm fine." she spoke quickly then went to hide into my shadow. I stared at my shadow before I aimed at the target that was up on the ceiling with my clawshot.
She was just imagining things…
Yes, that's right. I was just imagining… Midna thought.
Room through room, I was finally at a room which contained the right key. The key that led to the locked bedroom.
"Phew. We finally found it. That sure took a while…but that mirror shard is as good as ours!"
I then went to exit out of the room only to find Yeta when I went back outside.
"Oh! You safe, uh! I drink husband's soup, feel much better, uh. So I come find you. You found key, uh! Good! Good! Bedroom right above us. I take you there, uh."
I couldn't help but to think that there was something different about her…Shaking my thoughts out of my head, I followed her.
Once the locked door was unlocked, Yeta walked even further until she stopped. I quickly took a glance on the bed and it looked like there was a figure but I paid no attention to it.
"Please…This way, uh." I followed her until we stopped at a spot. I stared at the object which I was positive that it was one of the mirror shards.
"Here…mirror. You look at it, uh." Yeta's voice suddenly became a soft one so I had to strain my ears to hear her. She then started to sway to the side until she stopped so that she was now moving her head.
"Uh…So pretty…" she sighed. The yeti continued to sway. "Pretty…Uh...So pretty…" her words started to become inaudible. However, suddenly she started to twitch which made me to be cautious as I stared at her.
"Pretty…Pretty…mirror…Lovely…" her words seemed to be "breaking apart."
She continued to twitch and struggled for words until the yeti was no longer twitching.
"Hey…um…you alright?" I asked, cautiously.
In a heart attack jump, the yeti's head turned around but it wasn't the nice loving feature. It was a demon face with red eyes and sharp long fangs and it made me to jump when she screamed out the words.
"NO TAKE MIRROR!"
As if it was her doing, the windows' glass started to break into pieces and they tinkled down to the floor, letting a chilly cold wind in the room. The wind's breeze started to wrap around the demon while it was lifting her as well. The mist around her became bigger and bigger until finally, the mist died down to reveal a large icy shell that plunged down to the ground, nearly killing me.
I would've been killed if I hadn't somersaulted out of the way just in time. Suddenly, the bedroom was changed into an icy environment since the ceiling, walls and the floor were out of ice.
I scrambled in order to dodge the sliding shell that was coming at me. I didn't know what to do since I didn't know what her weakness was. However, the more I look at it, the more I seem to know what I'm supposed to do.
Thinking, I got out my Ball and Chain and randomly smashed a spot at the icy shell. The icy barrier was swung back and was rotating around though, of course, it was coming back.
I also noticed that I had destroyed a piece of a "layer" from the icy shell so I continued to destroy the shell until the shell kept on getting smaller and smaller. However, small mini-Freezards came when I started to unleash the weapon a fourth time but I ignored them…until they decided to attack me.
The shell eventually became smaller as it smashed at an icy wall which also revealed Yeta. I was worried since I thought I might've hurt her badly but at the same time, I knew that a demon was taking place. Not Yeta. Yeta must've been "possessed".
She gave out a gurgling inhuman noise and she started to fly into the air then stopped as if to catch some air. With a swing of her head, she gave out another terrifying deafening scream that seemed to be summoning large deathly icicles that circled around her, followed by a throne-like chair (that was in the middle) in which the demon sat.
"Link, look beside her." Midna said.
I did so and what I saw made me to gasp as well as having my eyes going wide. There, beside her, was an unconscious Ashei that made my blood run cold.
"Ashei…" I whispered, eyes glued to the girl rather than the possessed yeti.
"Link, look out!" Midna screeched. Because of the screech, I just narrowly avoided the sharp deadly icicle that plunged down with a thud. That was close…Nonetheless, I took a glance at the back of my tunic only to find that a piece of it was torn.
"Hey! I like my tunic, thanks!" I shouted, angrily.
First my hat and now my tunic? What next? My boots?
I suddenly became uneasy about the boots…
Since Ashei was with her, I was nervous since I didn't want to hit the icicle-shaped shell for fear I might hurt Ashei. Midna was being Midna since she was being impatient and because she was being impatient, she told me to suck it up.
I scowled at her. "Unlike you, Midna, I don't want my friend to be hurt!"
She shot me a nasty look. "Look: the only way to defeat the crazy possessed yeti is to hit the middle shell. Trust me; you won't hurt your friend. You have to believe in yourself."
I helplessly glanced at Ashei then back to Midna before letting out a sigh.
"Alright." I whispered then started to avoid the icicles that were trying to smash at me since they were following my every move. I was just lucky to have the floor reflective which made it easier for me.
When the icicles have been thrown down, I took out my Ball and Chain to destroy at least one of them. The haunted yeti floated in the air again, having the icicles circling around her as if to protect her.
Once again, the icicles dropped down to the ground though I didn't dodged it on time and the shockwave that emitted out of the icicle caused me to be hit by the shockwave, sending me to slide down the slippery floor.
When the icicles fell again, this time, I destroyed one of the icicles and resumed running away from them until they fell down again. After spotting an entrance through the icicles that circled around me, I went through that one while the yeti's shell came down right in the middle.
Quickly, I took out my weapon and smashed in the middle of the shell which forced the protective shell to slide back before rising up into the air to summon more of the icicles.
The process continued until finally on the last hit, the shell slid back after a powerful hit from the Ball and chain. The mad yeti let out a horrible scream as she thrashed around and at last, the protective shell plunged down to the ground, smashing it into pieces.
I lifted my shield up so I wouldn't get hit from the flying pieces. When the pieces died down, my eyes widened and breathed out a sigh of relief when I saw Ashei and Yeta. Yeta was alright as well as Ashei so I quickly sprinted to the girl.
But, I felt something coming towards me like a magnet so I looked up to see the Mirror shard. Like with the Fused Shadows, the piece gently got placed between my hands and Midna came out.
"Well, we have two mirror shards now…" she smiled, happily. "Two more left, Link." she told me, taking the shard. She then looked at the girl then back at me. "See? I told you she would be alright."
Midna then looked at the breathing Yeta. "Still…I feel bad about the way we treated that girl."
"Yeah, I know. Me too."
She paused before she spoke. "To think the Mirror of Twilight has the power to change people like that…This world…all worlds…can be cruel…Let's hurry up and collect the rest of those pieces, Link!" she said, urgently as her hair hand went back to its place.
"We have to, before more innocent creatures have to endure the suffering this poor girl did…Well, let's go search to find the two remain."
She was about to create a portal until a loud slam was heard which made Midna to quickly hide back into my shadow.
"Yeto, I can explain." I started, getting up so that I could be beside the nearly unconscious Yeta.
Yeto, however, didn't hear me since he ran towards his beloved one while knocking me out of the way in the process. I groaned as I just simply laid on the floor, not wanting to get up until I pushed myself up when I had to.
I looked over at the two yetis. I was relieved to see that Yeta was still alright though she laid in the arms of her husband.
"Uh…Uh…What…What wrong with me?" Yeta softly whispered.
"Very strange…You just dreaming, uh." Yeto told her.
"Yeto! Mirror you gave…" Yeta turned to her left and saw the Mirror gone.
The bigger yeti shook his head as if to tell her to not worry about it.
"Forget mirror, Yeta…No. Look into eyes of Yeto…Look in reflection of Yeto's eyes. There true beauty!"
Yeto picked her up and started to hug her after he said who need mirror. I got teary-eyed at the scene. It was just filled with so much passion and love that pretty soon the room was filled with the same emotion and warmth. A pang came into my chest as I continued to stare at them.
I wish I had a family like that…well, I do but it doesn't feel the same, you know? The family in Ordon gives me plenty of love but not…motherly love…it's hard to explain…
"Are you crying Link?" Midna asked as she stared at me.
"N-no." I stuttered, quickly wiping a tear.
"Right. What do you say we get out of here?"
I nodded then went to pick up Ashei who was resting. Silently, we got out of the room…
