Chapter 1: Healer
The kingdom of Hoenn is ruled by a King and Queen with their charming son that captures the hearts of every teenage girl in the kingdom. His grass green locks and emerald green eyes are just two parts to his charm. Aside from his looks, he's also seen giving roses to random girls in the kingdom. They would then faint dramatically, hearts pounding.
Yes. He's often known through the kingdom as a Prince heartthrob. He's also the nicest guy around. What's not to love about him?
Every teenage girl dreams of being noticed by Prince Drew.
Well…
Almost every teenage girl…
There's a beautiful brunette with sapphire blue eyes in the kingdom. She's never shown any interest in the Prince. Her profession…the Royal Healer. She's a nurse that uses magic like potions and herbs to heal her patients. And yes. She works at the palace.
Her name is May. And she just finished helping a young girl with a scrape on her knee. She gently put a bandage on the girl's knee. The bandage has healing herbs on it to heal the wound. "There you go. All better."
"Thank you." The girl said before standing up and running over to her mother in the waiting room.
May follows.
"Thank you so much, May." The mother said.
"You're welcome." May said with a warm smile. "Careful on that knee." She told the girl.
"Bye!" The girl said excitedly, waving.
May waves back. "Bye bye." After the girl and mother left, May looked at the other patients in the waiting room. "Now, who's next?"
The door to May's infirmary opened. May recognizes the person that entered. He's wearing a Royal outfit with golden epaulettes and black pants and boots. He has shaggy black hair and brown eyes.
"Ash. What brings you here?"
"Um." Ash closes the door and walks to May, walking with her to the back. "We have a bit of a situation…" He whispered.
May put her hands on her hips. "What is it this time?"
May had gathered some supplies before entering the main castle. Ash led her to Prince Drew's room.
Ash is Prince Drew's Royal Attendant. His job is to make sure the Prince is safe and follows his schedules.
May curtsied. "Hello, Your Highness."
Prince Drew lifts his head. "May?" He looks at Ash. "What is the Royal Healer doing here?"
"She's going to help you." Ash said.
"Help with what? I'm not hurt. I'm just doing some paperwork."
May walks to Drew and takes his arm. "Your Highness, let's get you in bed."
"What? Why?" Drew stands up regardless.
May walks Drew to his bed in the connecting room and he sits down.
"I don't understand why I'm in bed. There's work to do."
"You're working too hard, Your Highness." May opens her messenger bag that has her supplies in it. She takes out some medicinal herbs and starts crushing them together, using a mortar and pestle. "I know that paperwork is important, but it's even more important for you to take care of yourself. You're the Prince. You always need to be at your best."
"But-"
"No buts, Prince Drew." May takes a spoon out of her bag. She dips it in the mashed herbs and holds it up to Drew's mouth. "Eat this. It'll ease your mind while you rest and help you relax and sleep better."
"But…I can't rest. There's work to do."
May furrows get eyebrows. "Drew Hayden, you need to rest."
Drew sighed.
Only May is allowed to call Drew by his full name…
She may work for him, but they're really good friends.
"Fine. For you, May." Drew opens his mouth. May feeds him the herbs. He chews and swallows before laying down under the blankets.
May packs up her things. "Just a couple of hours should do."
Drew sighs contentedly. "I feel relaxed already. Thank you."
"You're welcome, Your Highness. Just doing my job."
"You're really the best Royal Healer this kingdom could ever ask for."
"Aww…That means a lot, Drew. Make sure to take care of yourself more in the future."
"If I don't…will I be seeing you everyday to take care of me?"
May giggled. "Your Highness…I have other patients to attend to everyday. I put Royalty before all else, but it'd mean a lot if you help me by taking care of yourself more. Can you do that for me, Your Highness?"
Drew smiled softly. "I can try."
"That's all I ask. I'll see you soon." With that said, May leaves the room.
Ash is leaning against a wall, staring at Drew. He clicks his teeth together while shaking his head. "No, no, no, Drew. You shouldn't be falling in love with her."
Drew rolled his eyes. "I know." He smiles shyly, looking away from Ash. "But she always takes such good care of me…"
"It's her job. And if you've forgotten, you're the Prince. Your parents have scheduled you to meet with different Princesses from different kingdoms to find a wife."
"Ugh. Don't remind me."
"For now, you need rest. Doctor's orders."
"Then get out of my room."
Ash chuckled before leaving the room and closing the door behind him.
Drew sighs before closing his eyes and drifting off to sleep.
Drew wakes up and stretches. He gets out of bed. "That was a good nap." He goes next door to his office and sits at his desk.
The door opens and Ash enters the room. "Oh, you're up."
"And ready to work." Drew takes a pen and continues to sign the paperwork that he was working on earlier.
Ash starts walking towards Drew's desk. "So…did May's herbs help you relax?"
Drew smiled. "Yeah. They really did. She's great at her job."
"That's probably why you like her, huh?"
Drew freezes, blushing.
Ash laughs. "I'm just teasing, Drew. Continue working."
Drew sighs and continues signing the paperwork. "She's like the only teenage girl in the kingdom that doesn't fall for my good looks. Just my luck, huh?"
"But that only makes it more interesting. You'll be trying to woo her in all sorts of different ways."
Drew chuckled. "Don't be ridiculous…I'm the Prince. I can't fall in love with her."
"Are you sure you haven't already?"
Drew stops writing and looks up at Ash. "I wouldn't call it 'love' quite yet. Not unless I know that she feels the same."
"Well, good luck with that. She doesn't think you're cute at all."
Drew furrowed his eyebrows. "Hey…"
Ash chuckles. "Just messing with you."
Knock knock knock.
Ash goes to open the door. A Royal Guard is standing there with a vase of gorgeous flowers in his hands. Ash accepts the vase and reads the card that's on it. He smiles. "From May…" He looks at the Guard. "I'll give it to the Prince. Thanks." Ash closes the door before walking back to Drew. He places the vase on the desk.
"Who are those for?" Drew asked.
"Who do you think?"
Drew reads the card. "To Drew…From May…" He opens the card. "Sorry I can't deliver these to you in person. The infirmary is packed with sick or injured patients that I need to attend to. But I still wanted you to have these. I picked these medicinal flowers this morning. The strong fragrance from them also helps with relaxation. And I know that you've been working too hard. I hope they help you while you work. Love, May." Drew smiles slightly with pink cheeks.
"Where do you want them?"
Drew takes the vase and puts it at a corner of the desk. "Right here is fine."
Ash smiles.
"That girl is so thoughtful…" Drew stands up and walks around the desk.
"Where are you going?" Ash asked.
"To visit someone."
Ash perks up an eyebrow with a smirk. "Oh?"
Drew stops at the door and turns around, blushing. "Oh, shut up. Are you coming or not?"
Ash chuckles before catching up to Drew. "I'm coming, I'm coming."
Drew and Ash make their way to the infirmary. When they enter, they meet the eyes of many patients, waiting for medical attention. The few teenage girls in there squeal at the sight of the Prince. Drew smiles and just waves before going through the back door with Ash. They hear talking coming from down the hallway. They follow the voice and enter a back room.
May is currently helping a patient and she notices Drew. She gasped. "Your Highness!" She quickly rushes to Drew and drags him out of the room right before he ends up sneezing.
Achoo!
"Whoa. That sneeze just came all of a sudden." Drew said.
"You're allergic to cats, Drew. And I just happen to be treating one with a bad cold. You should leave."
Drew groans dramatically, pretending that his heart just broke in half. "Ouch, May…that hurts…"
May rolled her eyes, shaking her head while laughing softly. "Oh, Drew…you know what I mean."
Drew smiled before suddenly sneezing into his arm. "I-I just…"
Achoo!
"Wanted to umm…"
May starts walking Drew and Ash back the way they came.
Achoo!
"Thank you for…" Drew continued.
Achoo!
"The flowers…"
They stop at the door to the waiting room.
"Oh, no need to thank me." May said. "Giving gifts is what I do."
"It was really thoughtful of you."
"I hope they help you with your stress."
"Me too. Well, I better get back to work."
"Yes, you better." May laughs softly and starts walking away. "I'll see you later, Prince Drew."
"See you." Drew smiles to himself before leaving with Ash. When they get outside, they notice a couple of carriages from a neighboring kingdom stop in front of the castle. Drew sighed. "We better get inside. My first potential wife is here."
Ash quickly sneaks back inside the castle with Drew while a couple Royal Guards from this kingdom help out with the carriages.
Drew meets his parents in the grand hall.
"There you are, Drew." The King said. "Follow us outside. Someone very important just arrived."
"Of course, father." Drew follows his parents back the way he came, and Ash follows behind him.
"I hope you find a liking to the Princesses that will be arriving on separate days." The Queen said. "You'll get the chance to meet them and get to know them one-on-one."
"Great…" Drew said sarcastically with a fake smile. His parents didn't catch the sarcasm.
"Loosen up." Ash whispered. "If I were you, this would be my favorite part of being a Prince."
Drew rolled his eyes. "That's only because you don't have any special feelings for anyone yet."
"Eh. Maybe. Still. Your parents aren't going to force you to choose one of the Princesses. They're just giving you options, so you can start thinking about your future."
"You're right, but…I still don't want to do this. I know who I want in my future."
They exit the castle and stand at the top of the staircase, staring down at the carriages on the circle driveway. The coachman of one opens the door of the carriage and the Princess exits it, pinching her dress like princesses do. Her dress is a blue ball gown. She has blue hair and blue eyes to match. She's holding a bedazzled paper fan in her hand that's shielding the bottom half of her face.
A Royal Guard of this kingdom rolls out a red carpet down the staircase. The Princess slowly and gracefully walks up the steps to meet the Royals. She curtsies. "It's such an honor to meet you."
"You as well." The Queen said. "Allow us to introduce you to our son."
The King and Queen part, revealing Drew.
"This is Prince Drew of Hoenn. Drew, meet Princess Dawn."
Dawn walks forward, still shielding her mouth with her fan. Drew takes her hand and places a kiss on it. "I'm delighted to meet you, Princess Dawn. Welcome to Hoenn."
Dawn closes her fan, revealing her smile. "Thank you, Prince Drew. I'd love to learn more about this beautiful kingdom of yours."
"Well, you're in luck. I'll be your guide if that's okay."
"Perfect."
"We'll leave you two to get to know each other." The Queen said before her and the King go back inside the castle.
"First, let me introduce you to my Royal Attendant." Drew said. "This is Ash."
Ash bows. "Greetings, Your Highness."
"He'll be keeping an eye on us from a safe distance."
"Lovely." Dawn said.
"Well then. Where do you want to go first?" Drew asked. "The choice is yours."
"I'd love to explore the outside areas of the castle before checking the inside later."
"Then let's go to the garden."
Dawn smiles and follows Drew down the stairs. They start heading to the garden behind the castle while Ash makes sure to keep his distance.
"So, did anything special catch your eye as soon as you got here?"
"The nature." Dawn answered. "I really love all sorts of flowers…and trees…and the ones here are so beautiful…"
"I'm glad you think so."
They step foot in the giant castle garden, full of every kind of flower in many different colors. Dawn gasped. "This is so wonderful…" She walks forward to explore the garden.
Drew's eyes move away from Dawn and see a very familiar brunette in a corner of the garden. When May first started working at the castle as a healer, they let her plant her own medicinal herbs in the garden. She's harvesting some at the moment. He smiled softly before approaching her.
May notices the shadow under her from someone else, so she looks up. She smiles. "Your Highness, you hardly ever visit the garden in your free time."
Drew turns his head, watching Dawn look at the flowers. "I don't have free time at the moment."
May looks in the direction Drew is looking in. "Oh. Who is that?"
Dawn turns around and sees Drew with May. She smiles and makes her way to them. "And who is this?"
May stands up.
"Princess Dawn, this is the Royal Healer here. May."
"Oh, it's such an honor to meet you, Your Highness." May said with a curtsy.
"You as well. Shall we continue the tour, Prince Drew?"
"Of course." Drew said. He looks at May. "I'll…see you later?"
"You know where to find me. I need to get back to work." May said.
Drew nods before leaving with Dawn.
Dawn glances at Drew. "Do you…feel something for her?"
"Who? May? Of course not."
"Good. Because you're supposed to be spending time with me, remember?"
Drew nods. "Of course. I just saw her, and I wanted to say hi."
"If you say so."
