Chapter 40: The Case is Solved
I studied the marks in which Shad had placed on the map. They were practically everywhere in Hyrule and there was one where it was in the desert. I shuddered since I did not want to go back there again.
Looks like there's going to be a lot of warping…
Anyways, I started to go to the ones that were the closest which was the Kakariko Gorge. I didn't even bother to change back into human until I had to in order to get the Owl Statue out of its spot.
Yes, I still enjoyed having the Dominion Rod.
Once the statue was moved, I went towards the glowing light and stood in front of it. It felt weird as my hands went through the light circle while it gave out the feeling as if something would grab my hands unexpectedly and would pull me down. Finally, my hands felt something hard and rough so I grasped the object and pulled it out.
The object looked just like the book I had but all of a sudden, the book dissolved into the light and I took out my main book to flip the book cover. There it was: one of the missing words that were in there was now complete.
I then warped to all of the other places such as S. Faron Woods, Bridge of Eldin, Gerudo Mesa, Castle Town (since there was a part where it contained a missing Sky Character. It was to the South), to the spot on what it looked like it was near the Bridge of Hylia so that being said, this reminded me of Impaz from the Hidden Village.
I would have to check on her to see how she is doing when I'm done.
That being said, the book was finally completed so I went all the way to the Hidden Village. When I reached the village, it was daytime. I also thought about that cucoo…it just gave me the feeling that it wanted to talk to me…
I made a mental note about that.
"Impaz…?" I asked as I entered in your house.
"Oh Link! How did it go? Did the sweet girl remembered?" Impaz asked, hoping.
I smiled, remembering the memory.
"Yes she did. She had finally remembered who she was."
We talked about some random stuff and about her family until she told me that she didn't want me to keep any longer since I had more important things to do.
Trust me: I would give anything to have a break. In other words, I would want to have a break where I don't have to worry about the world. Remembering about the cucoo, I went to the spot and transformed myself into a wolf.
"Oh…Welcome…This is the forgotten village…Thirty…No, more like twenty. That's how many cats have made it back here to the village. So perhaps ou could…you know just…play with them?"
The cucoo seemed to be pleading so I gave a nod.
"Aww, thanks so much…They're all so lonely…perhaps you could talk to every one of them? But if you leave the village, it will be like you never talked to any of them, do you understand? Cats are forgetful."
I nodded again.
"Oh, and let me give you a tip for speaking to all of them…Start at one end! Got it?"
After giving my answer, I went back to the start of the village so I can try to hear the cats sound. I narrowed my eyes once I heard them and started the search…
-Sometime later-
I plopped myself down on the ground at a corner that was near the cucoo. The cats still surrounded me; some of them were playing with my tail—yes, I'm still in the wolf form—and the other cats were either being cuddled at the side of me, they were sitting on my front legs or they were sitting on my back
Needless to say, I was exhausted but a thought came to my mind. Midna came out but she didn't look amused when a kitten walked towards her, nuzzling her. She glared at the kitten, hoping that it will leave her alone but it didn't. Scowling, Midna reluctantly brought her arm to the warm, fuzzy fur of the kitten.
She really didn't look amused.
I could just imagine on what she was thinking right now.
Come on, Link. We got better things to do…
So, after that incredulous annoying cat hunting, we finally made our butts back to Kakariko Village. I sprawled out on the dirt road while I felt myself transforming back into a human.
It feels so nice to sleep here…
"Link, get up you lazy wolf! You can't be that tired!" Midna's sharp voice rang, instantly making my eyes to fly open.
I muttered something under my breath. "But it feels so nice to sleep here…the ground is cool and not that rough…"
Midna rolled her eyes. "Goddesses damnit, Link! We have other important things to do! Like, oh I don't know, finding the last Mirror Shard!"
I grumbled with protest. "I hate being the Hero. Why is it always me?"
Midna stared at me with a baffled look. "What do you mean by that?"
"I mean…" I changed my position so that I was sitting cross-legged while my whole body was slumped. "I keep on having these dreams where there was a figure that looked exactly like me, wearing the same clothes and all. But the only thing that was different was that he had a fairy with him…He even had the Master Sword with him…" I sighed, staring at the ground before my face got buried in my hands.
I then removed my face from the hands and stared at Midna. "What am I, Midna?"
Now that was the question in which Midna was stumped on. She honestly didn't know. But…in her heart, she knew what I was.
A Hero.
A Hero that is the blue-eyed beast. A Hero that can save Hyrule from that terrible man that casted the evil onto Hyrule.
"You're a Hero, Link." she replied, softly.
I made a small smile.
Am I really a Hero? I thought back all the way to the beginning. It just seems like yesterday…I thought back to where I first met Midna and where I first visited the Forest Temple. I still remembered how Midna was cruel and cold-hearted which made me to think that maybe she can't be warm…
How wrong was I.
It's amazing how a person can change throughout this whole journey. I thought back about how I made it through the hard challenges, puzzles and the hardships. I also thought about how I survived through the worst kind of injuries. But the only one way to answer that question is to look at the Master Sword.
I unsheathed the sword to stare at its shiny blade where I can see my reflection. The answer lies in there. Only a true hero can utterly pull the legendary Master Sword. No other person can't.
So I am the Chosen One. The Goddesses didn't made a mistake…A determined look flashed across my eyes and I placed back the sword in its scabbard while I got up.
"Let's go find the last shard!" I replied as I ran to the Sanctuary.
"Link…"
"Hi and bye!" I responded, cutting off Ilia.
I then jumped into the hole to where Shad was.
"Shad!" I exclaimed, still running towards him then stopped when I got close to him.
"Link? Did you find the missing parts of the book?" Shad asked, straight to the point. He was really ecstatic…
I nodded so I practically shoved the book into his face when I pulled it out of my pouch. He gasped as his eyes were wide.
"By the Goddesses…Let's try it now!" like before, he spoke in that inhuman language. We both stared at the statue. Nothing had happened for a while but suddenly, the sealed large handle that was right in the middle of the statue started to glow, a bright one, until it died down.
When it died down, it revealed a hole in the handle.
"Ah! It has taken on the same shape as the other statues…What can this mean?" he wondered. "And I thought we had solved the last of the riddles…Blast! How confounding!" he replied with disappointment. "…I must apologize, Link. I need to cool off a tad before I mull the problem further…"
I watched the disappointed scholar walking away and truthfully, I felt bad for him. He was this close to solve this entire mystery but as a result, he came empty handed…
So, now what? If Shad can't remove the statue from the spot, then what am I supposed to do?
The more I stared at the open handle, the more I suddenly became stupid…
Of course, Midna was making fun of me.
"You're so stupid, Link." Midna muttered. "Why do I have to have a stupid Hero that can't think properly?" she wondered.
I sneered. "Shut up and go back to the shadow."
She glared at me, muttering some few colorful words then went back to hiding.
Stupid Imp…
I took out my Dominion Rod to move the statue out of its spot but then I stared at what it had hidden. It hid what it looked like an entrance (with stairs) that could possibly lead somewhere so I descended down the stairs only to enter in a huge old room.
In front of me stood a machine that looked like it hadn't been used in years. It was grey, old and rusty. If you could examine it closely, you could see some of the grey paint peeling off, revealing brown surfaces of the machine.
"Link?!" a voice exclaimed, startling me.
I whirled around and saw Shad with a stunned look that was etched into his face. Pure shock was clearly written as if he couldn't believe what was happening.
"Um…erm…I…statue…owl…hi?" I uttered, stupidly. Midna snorted at the stupidity.
"How in blazes did you move that statue?! And…what's this…" he walked towards the strange machine. His stunned gasp echoed throughout the room. "Amazing! Spectacular! This must be the Sky Cannon! I read about in my father's notes! I knew that my intuition was onto something when it led me here! But how can one use this to get to the City in the Sky?"
I walked closer to the Sky Cannon and Midna talked in a hush tone though I was able to hear her.
"A cannon, huh? What do you plan to do with this, Link?"
"To warp it in Lake Hylia." I whispered.
She paused. "Except that guy is still watching us…"
Oh right…
I turned around on my heels and walked back (again) to Shad.
"Um Shad…erm…" this is awkward. "Do…do you mind if you um leave? I have some stuff to do here…"
That was so lame…but apparently, Shad understood.
"…Ahh! Well, forgive me for not realizing! I should just disappear at times like this, really." I was about to speak but he beat to me first. "So…Let me know the results another time, Link."
With that, he walked off.
Now, I feel even bad…
"Can you now warp it to Lake Hylia?"
Midna smirked, coming out of my shadow. "Of course, Master." she taunted, making me to scowl.
"Oh, hold on Link!" Shad's voice called out.
Midna froze and she quickly hid back into my shadow.
"What was that?" he asked.
"What was what?"
"There was something with you…but it got away…"
I shrugged. "Maybe the mind is playing tricks with you."
He paused to think about it but then he finally nodded. "I do believe so. What I want to tell you is that the machine seems to be broken so you'd do well to show it to a cannon expert first, I should say. Well, til then."
Great. We got a broken machine.
She used her powers to warp the cannon and I. Within seconds, we arrived at Lake Hylia. I just have a hunch that maybe Fyer can help us with this…
"Hey, buddy!" Fyer greeted me. He then looked ahead of us with his eyes wide. "So…uh, is that yours?" he motioned his head to the great cannon.
I nodded. "Yeah. I was wondering if you could fix it…? It's broken and all."
He gave out a chuckle. "Of course I can! But I would never thought you'd get so hooked on fantastication that you'd try to build your own cannon!"
"Heh. Guess I'm full of surprises!"
"That you are my friend." he replied. "So…are you gonna give me the tour or what? Looks like you have a serious rig over there…"
"Of course."
We walked towards the cannon and I let Fyer to examine it.
"You think you can fix it? It looks…complicated." I responded, unsure if he actually can. If he did, I would be surprised.
"Like I said, of course I can! You're selling me short. But…"
And there's always a but…
"Um well…that is, if you can pay me three hundred rupees…in advance. Whaddaya say?"
My mouth fell open with shock. "Three HUNDRED RUPEES?! Two hundred!"
"Three."
"Two!"
"Sorry bud. Take it or leave it."
I glared at him, pinching the bridge of my nose though I thought about it over and over until I finally caved in. Saving Midna's home is more important…
"Fine." I muttered. I was just lucky that I happened to have that much.
That was such a rip off! I'm bankrupt!
"Heh heh…I knew you'd see the light, buddy."
I would like to punch the light out of you. I thought, angrily. Damnit.
He also told me that it would take him at least four to five days to fix this…thing. When I told Midna about that, she wasn't happy.
We both got the necessary stuff that we need in order to fix the damn Cannon that made me to go bankrupt. Beads of sweat fell down from my forehead because I was working so hard and plus the bright sun that was beating down on my back.
I steadied myself since I was on the top of the Cannon to swipe the sweat of my forehead. Man, it's really hot today. Because of that, I had to take off my shirt to reveal my awesome well-toned build. Yeah, I know. I'm hot.
See. I just made you to drool…and even Midna…
In return, I tossed the upper tunic right into her face, knocking her down.
She wasn't happy about it…
The third day had slowly turned to a fourth day and the fourth day had slowly turned into the fifth day.
I panted with exhaustion when we had finally finished this but the hard work had definitely paid it off. The once old rusty cannon was now newer and fresher. The smell of paint reached my nostrils and the air. I just couldn't help but to smile nonstop at our accomplishment even though I was sweating like a dog.
My muscles were also sore and stiff and I didn't feel like going anywhere.
"Here we go, buddy. All working as it should…I think. It may look like junk, but this thing's got some powerful innards! You're going to be knocking on the door to the heavens! Seriously, bud…"
"Let's just hope that I don't knock on the Door of Death." I said, dryly.
Fyer chuckled. "Well good luck and thanks for the help."
He walked off, leaving us alone with the impressive looking cannon. I let out a one final breath before going to the back of the cannon since there was a target in which I got grab on with the help of my clawshot.
The familiar tug entered through my arm but it soon vanished just as it had started. I felt the cannon coming alive as it rumbled and stumbled backwards as if it was not used to being alive after many years. I thought I had heard a squawking and soon, I felt something being beside me.
I turned around to see Ooccoo.
"Ooccoo…? What are you…?" I didn't get to finish the question since I was immediately blasted out of the cannon.
I couldn't help but to scream. The blast definitely gave me a heart attack, causing my heart to skip a beat. I was so afraid (that I thought I might hit something) as I was flying through the air and into the cloudy sky of Lake Hylia. The moment I entered through the clouds, Lake Hylia vanished out of sight.
I still continued to "fly" through the air (while wondering how much power did the Cannon have) until something came into the view when I flew through the clouds. My eyes went wide as I realized what it was.
However, the more I came closer to it, the more I started to panic because I couldn't stop myself from flying. I squeezed my eyes shut tight, waiting for some sort of impact once I collide myself with one of the buildings.
It never came.
The only thing that did came was the harsh smack that welcomed my body. The water pushed down on me which made me to struggle but it only got me more disorientated. I pushed with my arms and legs but I couldn't find no power. I felt my lungs being constricted, screaming for air so I made out a strangle yell (though only made it worse) until I forced myself to go up, choking the substance out of my mouth. I gasped, sputtering the water that entered in my mouth.
Wait, water?
I looked down and saw that I was indeed in water. I would have to thank the water for saving my life. Because I thought I had heard a small frightened squawk, I turned my head to see Ooccoo gently splashed on the water.
Talk about random and lucky.
"Phew! Gracious, we made it back! Welcome, adventurer! This is the sky city of the Oocco."
I stared at her then made my head to jerk in order to look at the sight.
So…I really am at the…
City in the Sky?
