This is an AU take on what could of happened towards the end of S12E30 Safe Haven.
"Is Jo around?" Adam Rossi asked Steve Taylor as he entered the MRU office in search of their paramedic, Jo Mathieson.
"No, she's gone back to the brothel to get something for Mary, she said she would be half an hour and that was oh over an hour and a half ago. Let me finish this and I'll give her a call."
Meanwhile, somewhere in the city, in a dark and dirty underground car-park, Jo was hunting through trying to find this prized necklace that was ripped off one of the women when they were being taken to the hospital.
Jo knelt down and picked up the gold necklace and tucked it into her hand. She stood up and came face to face with the brothel owner.
"Who the hell are you?" He asked as she quickly looked for an escape route and made a beeline for it, the owner quickly grabbed her and smashed her up against a concrete pillar. "Next time I ask something, you answer." He pulled her back by her hair and knocked her out before dropping her to the floor.
Sometime later
It was some time later when Jo hadn't answered her radio or phone, Steve and Adam pulled up next to the MRU 4WD and got out of Adam's car.
"It looks like its been ransacked," Adam said as they walked further into the brothel, determined to find the missing paramedic.
"That's her radio, wallet, phone and jacket," Steve said holding himself back from picking up her jacket. "No Jo though. I think it's time to call the police."
"Yeah, I think so. Have another look around, I'll call. You might want to ring Mike as well." Adam said, pulling out his mobile phone and dialling Triple 0.
"Yeah, someone has to I guess," Steve said as he went round the pillar where he found Jo's radio, there he saw a glimpse of blood on the pillar, and it was fresh. Steve pulled his phone out of his pocket and looked for Mike's number.
Outside the ED
"Vlasek," Mike said, as he answered his phone while standing next to Frank after watching the Feds take away the women after they were cleared. "What do you mean she is missing?"
Frank looked at Mike as shock covered his face as he hung up the phone with a promise to be there shortly. "What happened?" Frank asked, following Mike to his car.
"Jo is missing, she went to find something for one of the women who is having surgery and she didn't return to HQ, nor answer her radio or phone. Steve and Adam have gone to look for her and they've found the 4WD ransacked, her wallet, phone, radio and jacket discarded. And blood." Mike said as Frank got into the driver seat and started the vehicle and pulled out of the car spot.
Brothel
As Frank and Mike pulled up there was police swarming the area and Steve and Adam talking to two police officers.
"Have you found her?" Mike asked walking up to Steve and the senior constable who was taking his statement.
"Not yet sir, and who are you?" Constable Rogers asked, turning to look at Mike.
"Mike Vlasek, Director of the Medical Response Unit. The woman you are looking for is my paramedic." Mike said stating his name and position as Steve vouched for him by nodding in agreeance.
"We haven't found her yet Mike, we are processing the scene. We have an understanding that potentially the owner of the brothel has come back whilst Miss Mathieson was here, we are working on where he could of possibly taken her. The first 48 to 72 hours after someone has gone missing is the most critical, during these hours we are looking for leads, witnesses and evidence. I have you statement, there is nothing more you can do here fellas, head home." Constable Rogers said, before turning away and walking off to talk to his colleagues.
"He doesn't expect us to sit at home or the office and just wait, does he?" Steve asked turning to look at Mike who looked at him apologetically.
"He does, and I don't like it either but we can't interfere during these crucial hours. We will head back to HQ, we can't take the 4WD yet." Mike said, gesturing towards Frank where he was waiting.
HQ
"This is bullshit Mike and you know it! We need to be out there trying to find her, don't you care?" Steve yelled as Mike closed the office door behind Frank.
"Of course I care Steve, but I can't do anything! My hands are tied, all we can do right now is wait!" Mike yelled back as Steve growled and walked off before slamming the door to the change room behind him. Mike sighed and put his head in his hands as he sat down on the couch.
Frank stood in front of him, "We will find her Mike, I know it." He said before turning and leaving the office to inform his staff of what's happened and what will happen in the coming days.
Mike looked back up and thought to himself, 'I hope so.'
