Chapter 11

Following the night of chaos we had endured. None of us slept. Myself, Glenn, Dale and T-Dog sat in the RV. Shane stayed on top keeping watch, he was a very paranoid man to begin with, and after the night we've had, I don't blame him for being so concerned. Rick, Lori and Carl all went to their tent, but something tells me it's not the best night to be Rick. We were all a bit annoyed that he went back for Merle, after all, he sounded like a complete dick. Daryl had already started to move the bodies, and put them down where necessary, we told him to wait, to give people the night, but no.

Then there was Andrea, who sat unmoving over her befallen sister, Amy. She had passed away minutes after the attack had finished. She lost too much blood, or was in too much shock, or both. Or maybe the infection got her first. Who knows? I thought back to our time in the woods, how I had rejected her. Was that one of the last things she was worrying about before she died? God, I feel like an ass.

The next morning, we had several unpleasant jobs to finish. Daryl, Glenn and Morales started burning the bodies and me, Shane and Rick began to bury the people we'd lost. Glenn had made a point of it earlier that we needed to bury our loved ones, not burn them.

The heat was vicious that day, constantly bearing down on us. A horrible day for such horrible labour work. "If you've got something to say, then do it." Rick said, dragging my attention. Shane drove his pitchfork in to the ground and leant on it, meeting Rick's gaze as he did. "I'm just thinking. If you didn't leave, and take half our man power with ya', then maybe our losses wouldn't have been so bad."

Rick's eyes were burning under the Atlanta heat; he couldn't believe what Shane had said. "I think if we didn't bring back those guns when we did, our losses would ha-"

"Shut up! Both of you!" The words surprised me as they left my mouth. "Look at yourselves, digging graves for the dead and the only thing you care about is getting yourself outta the blame! God…" I continued to switch my gaze from each of their eyes, "We lost a lot of people last night, right now, and we focus on doing the human thing. G-grieving an-and mourning. Being respectful for Christ's sake!" Throughout my rant I didn't realise the small crowd gathering behind me. "So you two keep on bitching and whining all day long, but if you wanna do something helpful, then you'll grow a pair between you…" The aggression in my tone calmed, "and starts taking some responsibility!" With that I stormed off.
