Naboo 38 bby – 34bby
.
In the schoolyard of Theed Royal Academy, TRA, cavorted children of all grades, from elementary school, middle school and high school. A bit unusual, but normal on Naboo. The first graders could be recognized by the crown on their heads on their first day. It was also a typical Nabooian custom.
They all gathered in a circle around the teacher Miss Contee. At the outer side of this circle stood a girl, pushed out by the older girls.
As was the custom on Naboo, she wore clothes made of natural materials, a cream-colored dress made of raw silk with long sleeves. Over the dress she wore a short silk top in gray-purple color, which was embroidered with purple flowers. It was tied with a matching buckle belt. The buckle was amethysts seted in gold. On her feet she wore dark blue shoes with a purple bow. Her brown locks were long and covered most of her back. The wild splendor was only tied at the side. She had beautiful brown eyes like all women in the Naberrie family. She was small and chubby, no, not the sign of wealth, it was just that her mother couldn't always refuse her exaggerated desire for sweets.
She was the daughter of an old aristocracy Nabooian family named Naberrie. The Naberries have provided some queens of the planet, governors of Zealand and senators to the Galactic Senate over the centuries. They were always present in political and social life, they had wealth and influence.
The little girl's name was Padmé, Countess Padmé Naberrie. She had a sister named Sola, six years older, who had already been promised to a prince of Corellia. Such was the custom among the aristocracy and the upper classes. Poor people were allowed to marry out of love, they had nothing to lose with the marriage, neither money nor reputation. The mother, Countess Jobal Naberrie, also of aristocratic descent, looked after the daughters, which corresponded to her class and ensured a good upbringing from the early age. Together with her husband, she decided over the future of their children. The Count Ruwee Naberrie was the Queen's political advisor, practically the second man on the planet.
In the inner circle of the group stood a boy who was only slightly taller than the others. He had cut curly blond hair not too short, and his skin was slightly tanned. The eyes were sky blue, rimmed with long lashes. He was a handsome boy. Even according to the Nabooian custom, he wore a tunic with a brown leather belt with a gold clasp, a status symbol. The trousers were the same color, the high, tight boots were brown as the belt. The grown men wore darker colors, the children lighter ones. His tunic was light beige made of the best material. All the children in this school were so well dressed, it was an elite private school that only the richest could afford. The boy's name was Anakin Skywalker, he had only his mother and a wealthy, influential uncle, who had no money to spare when it came to his nephew's education and not just education. This uncle was no other than Vice Chancellor Sheev Palpatine. He was the first cousin of Shmi Skywalker, the mother of Anakin. Sheev's mother Arana Skywalker-Palpatine was the sister of Shmi's father Anadan Skywalker. The Skywalkers have always been rich, but have no titles of aristocracy. Shmi Skywalker was never married, only she knew who was Anakin's father . Palpatine supported his cousin financially and wherever he could, although she was not poor. She didn't have to wish anything.
Padmé and Anakin knew each other, they played together from their early age. Palpatine had a villa on Lake Retreat, near the Naberrie family. In the summer months when the family spent their holidays in the villa, Shmi Skywalker and her son were also in her cousin's villa. The children played every day in the sand on the beach, bathed and swam in the lake, ate sandwiches and Shuura fruits… ..and chocolate. Anakin encouraged Padmé to swim more, she should lose some weight. Even in nursery, the children teased her about baby fat. She really had a few pounds too much ... but Anakin liked her pretty face and beautiful brown eyes very much.
And now that they were gathered in a circle, Anakin looked where is Padmé. He saw her standing on the edge of the group, almost disinterested in what was happening, turned the leaves she had just picked up from the floor. It was late summer, the first leaves were falling from the trees that lined the schoolyard. He left the inner circle and went to her to integrate her into the group. He somehow thought it was his job to protect her. Not just to protect, she shouldn't miss anything the teacher says. It was about the upcoming trip to the surrounding mountains. The children should know what to wear and the list of what was written on it was handed out. Padmé reached out, was about to pick up the list when a girl hit her on the hand and pushed her so that she fell. The teacher didn't seem interested. Anakin went to Padmé and helped her up. She thanked him with tears that only he could see.
"What's on Anakin, is she not able get up on her own? It seems to me that she has problems with her balance, in some places she has too little, in other places too much. Don't you think so? "
"No, I don't and if you push her again, then ..."
"Then what?" Asked the cheeky girl
"Then I push you ... then you can see how it is"
"Let's see"
... and she pushed Padmé again, Padmé fell. Then Anakin grabbed the girl by the shoulders and pushed her to the floor, she screamed and the teacher turned around at just the right moment to see the scene.
"Anakin Skywalker, you go to report to director right away"
"Why? I didn't do anything other than Sortee did to Padmé. "
"I didn't see that," said teacher
"He didn't do anything bad, Miss Contee," said Padmé
"You go to the director too, right?"
Padmé and Anakin made their way down the corridors.
"Anakin, you didn't have to protect me. I get along. They are angry I know, but I don't want you to have problems because of me. "
"I can't watch them being mean to you for no reason ... or do they have a reason? Maybe because your father did so much for this planet and their fathers didn't, or because you wear nicer clothes? "
"I don't know, but definitely not because of the clothes. My clothes don't look good on me anyway, I know that I have too much weight. Maybe because I'm your good friend. Everyone wants you as a friend, it's always like this, beautiful children always have a lot of friends. "
"But you're beautiful Padmé, look in the mirror. You have a beautiful face, you have the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen. "
"Thanks Anakin, that's sweet of you." She smiled.
The director's silence. After a while he spoke
"So what happened? You're only in first grade. What will come later, Skywalker? "
"It was like this: I saw Sortee push Padmé to the ground and and help Padmé stand up, then Sortee made fun of Padmé's balance. I told her that if she did it again I would push her. Then she pushed Padmé again to the ground. I then grabbed her shoulder and pushed her to the ground, she screamed and the teacher saw that and said I have to get in touch with you. Padmé just said I hadn't done anything bad and that's why she had to come with me. "
"Everything is too complicated Skywalker. The next time you can refrain from playing the knight, let the girls deal with the matter among themselves. "
"You're welcome? I'm supposed to watch them push, hit and bullied. That is unfair what they are asking. "
"If you don't fail to do this, you will be punished."
"You can't do that, it's not fair anyway" reports Padmé
"And you best avoid these girls. You can go. "
The two left. The situations in which Padmé was pushed or pulled by the hair by other girls and sometimes boys were repeated. For the time being, Anakin only reacted to the boys' attacks, he knew that Padmé had no chance to defend himself against them and when the boys fought, they held tight, the teachers couldn't find out why, nobody said anything. All these guys were lucky, because Anakin did not use the Force in the brawls that he already felt in himself, although he was not yet trained. When he paid back to one or the other girl, he had to be careful not to get caught, it cost immediate punishment. Most of it bothered him that none of the teachers wanted to see Padmé suffer from attacks, not even looking when it happened.
In the second year of the school year, on the nineteenth day of the fourth month of the Naboo calendar, it was Anakin's birthday. It was customary for the birthday child to bring a cake so that all in his class, including ten, could eat cake during the afternoon break. Anakin also brought Shuura juice and fresh Shuura fruits, he knew Padmé liked them. The tables were pushed together and the teacher Miss Contee set the large table. The cake was put on the table and cut into pieces by her, each taking one. Anakin also put the Shuura fruit and juice on the table.
"Why did you bring the Shuura fruits, Anakin? Cake is enough. "Asked the teacher
"Because Padmé likes to eat Shuura fruit" reveals a girl named Katlè
"You shouldn't prefer her Anakin"
"Why not?"
"It's not fair to other girls"
"But if these girls bully Padmé, is that fair?"
"We don't bully her, we're just having fun with her."
She took a piece of cake and tossed Padmé in the face. Everyone laughed, including the teacher.
"Do you call that fun?"
"Yeah, it's so funny." And laughed out loud.
Anakin took his piece of cake that he had not yet eaten and with the precision of a Force sensitive, he hit the teacher's mouth, which was wide open because she had laughed. She choked and started coughing.
"Alakin Skywalker, you go to the director immediately.
"Why? You just said it's so funny. Is that funny only when you do that with the others? "Anakin asked cheekily.
"Why should he go, he only did what the others did too."
"You go to director too." Spat the teacher.
"Oh, you two again! What is it this time? "Asked the director
"Katlé threw the cake at Padmé and everyone laughed and said it was fun, even Miss Contee. That was so mean. Then I wanted to have fun and threw the cake at Miss Contee, but she didn't think it was fun. She said I should come to you. Padme told her that I didn't do anything else than the others, so she had to appear here with me. "
"What do I do with you guys now? You are suspended for a week. "
Padmé and Anakin went home. They told the parents what had happened and that it was nowhere near the first time. Countess Jobal Naberrie was concerned about her daughter Padme, but she didn't want Anakin to have so many problems because of her. Shmi was already thinking of talking to her cousin about it. And she did.
Palpatine supported the cousin and nephew in every respect, but not without ulterior motives. He had his plans. He didn't want to rule the galaxy as supreme chancellor, but as emperor. What nobody knew he was a Sith Lord. He was aware of the boy's potential and wanted him by his side later, he had plans for Anakin.
So, after so many incidents at school, he realized Anakin's willing to protect what he liked, even if it cost some sacrifice, his anger when he felt he was being treated unfairly. He wanted to strengthen these feelings in him and nurture them, he just had to see him more often. That meant Anakin had to go to Coruscant with him. It would not be wise to get him to yourself immediately, it would be suspicious. He had to wait until Anakin finished elementary school ... ..and this girl, Padmé, whom he liked so much, hmm, he should be more attached to her and if he is a little older, he should suffer from not being able to be with her . Palpatine could not leave Coruscant because of such a personal matter, a bagatelle, so he invited the cousin and nephew over. Palpatine talked to Shmi first, had everything explained to him and every detail told and assured his cousin that, as a good uncle of course, he would take care of everything. Shmi was grateful, she always felt disadvantaged as a single parent, especially because she lived in a world where the stronger and more privileged are in charge. Well, she wasn't one of the strongest, but one of the privileged, after all, her cousin was the Vice Chancellor. He did not belong to the aristocracy, but was rich and influential, he belonged to the political elite, that counted as well. Palpatine first had to hear the events from the boy's point of view and only then had to carefully try to influence him. Anakin told his version of the long story that had spanned over two years. Palpatine saw the injustice, but it came practical. He will take care of the culprits when Anakin and Countess Naberrie leave school. Palpatine increased Anakin's willing to protect the girl, his sense of justice, and advised him to take action against those he believed guilty, regardless of whether boy or girl, but he should also be ready to endure the pain. Anakin felt understood and grateful for the support.
After talking to Anakin, Palpatine considered the new strategy. He decided to entrust Anakin to the Jedis. They should train him in the exercise of Force, lightsaber fighting and everything else a Jedi Knight needs. When the time comes, he will lead Anakin to the dark side with ease. He just had to stay in the sphere of influence ... he thought.
In the third grade, Anakin got more and more angry when he saw Padmé being bullied. Some girls, especially Katlé and Sortee, also attacked Padmé physically, of course when the teacher wasn't watching. The two, it seemed to him, have something against Padmé. He just didn't know what. He had to find out. He walked up to the two in a friendly manner and tried, but only pretend, to connect with them. He learned that both were jealous of Padmé, of her parentage, of her friendship with him. They wanted to be his friends. Then he told them what he meant, they will never be his friends and they should better leave Padmé alone, otherwise there will be consequences. The two didn't take the warning seriously. The next time Padmé was pulled by the hair and thrown to the ground by the girls, Anakin came and cut Katlé's hair with the Force, Sortee remained on the floor with her dress torn. Anakin helped Padmé up and they walked on. This time nobody saw it who could testify to the incident. But it didn't stop there. Katlé and Sortee tried again and again to play a prank on Padmé.
Padmé and Anakin couldn't wait to spend their vacation on Varykino. They were alone there, without annoying classmates, just they two. They could confide in each other, tell each other everything that bothered them and what things they found joy in. What bothers them were the constant provocations at school, they both enjoyed spending time together, playing in the sand, swimming, eating the delicacies that his mother prepared for them. Unfortunately, this wonderful time always passed far too quickly.
The fourth year of elementary school was no different from the previous three. Padmé was constantly beaten, pushed, pulled by the hair and laughed at for her plump stature. It happened very often that their school supplies were damaged or destroyed, it was the boys who dared to do such nasty things. Anakin knew who it was and struck mercilessly. There were broken noses, wounds, and lots of bruises. He was punished whenever caught, but endured the punishments with dignity. Padmé suffered from it and kept telling him to stop. She didn't want him to be punished for her. She sometimes told her parents, but they didn't know if it was the truth and were afraid that Anakin was so fixated on her.
Anakin wasn't fixated on her, he just couldn't stand this injustice. He got along very well with the boys and girls who didn't bullied Padmé.
At the end of the second semester, the Jedi delegation was in Theed. All Force sensitive children were presented; those parents who decided to leave their children to the Jedis for further education could now conclude their contracts.
Shmi was there with Anakin. She and her cousin had decided that Anakin would go to Coruscant to train to be a Jedi Knight. It would later show whether he can still complete the military academy at the same time from the age of fifteen, whether he is so resilient. The contract was signed and Anakin was happy and unhappy at the same time. Happy because he always wanted to be a Jedi knight and maybe a general, but deadly unhappy because he had to leave Padmé. He knew that it would be difficult for her, that without him she might perish. He taught her some techniques that she could use to defend herself, but it was nowhere near enough to stand up against the bad guys. The girls were even angrier because they weren't so obvious when no one was looking.
Both graduated well, they were intelligent and hardworking. The vacation was long, three months. They'd spent the whole time together, as always. Only the conversations had a little more depth. At the lake where they always bathed, they sat next to each other on a stone, Anakin was very worried about Padmé. He took her hands in his.
"I'm happy to be able to train to be a Jedi Knight, it was always my dream, but when I think about leaving you here alone, I would rather stay. I know that you will continue to be bullied, but defend yourself as I taught you. "
"I will not perish, I will defend myself against them, but I will miss you, my good guardian."
He liked the way she called him, he leaned over and kissed her cheek. It wasn't a man's kiss, nor was it a child's kiss to his sister. They were preteens.
They used the remaining time for trips together, going swimming, playing holo games, eating together and picnics. They no longer played sand games, they were already out of that age.
A week before the end of the vacation, Anakin was packing the things he would need in the temple. That wasn't much, because everything necessary is made available in the temple. It wasn't forbidden to have personal belongings, but it should be kept to a minimum. Anakin took some clothes, a picture of his mother and a drawing Padmé had made for him. In his pocket he always carried a piece of Japor that Padme gave him when they were little children. He sat on the veranda of the large villa in which he lived with his mother and carved an angel out of it, an angel like Padmé was one.
The time had come. In the hangar bay of the Royal Palace was a Nabo cruiser owned by Vice Chancellor Sheev Palpatin. He had his nephew picked up, he shouldn't use public transport. Anakin's mother had been crying the whole time and Countess Naberrie, who came with her daughter Padmé to say goodbye to Anakin, was also close to tears. Anakin said goodbye to his mother with a warm hug and kisses on both cheeks, then bowed to the Countess Naberrie:
"Thank you for coming to see me off. It was an honor. "
"I wish you luck, good luck in everything you plan to do and what you want to achieve, Anakin."
"Thank you, your highborn"
Then he turned to Padmé and spoke quietly:
"I made that for you. A present so that you don't forget me. I carved it out of a piece of Japor. It will always bring you luck. "
He put the piece in her hand. She took it and looked at it.
"It is wonderful. But I don't need it to remember you. When you get to the capital, a lot will change, Anakin. But my affection for you will remain. "
They looked each other in the eye and only they saw each other's tears.
Anakin boarded the Naboo cruiser, turned around and then went inside. The door closed, the ramp rose, the engines roared, the ship took off and quickly disappeared from the blue of the Naboo sky.
