Chapter 1

"Do you have a dream for the future?"

"I think my dream is…still being worked on!"

Yeardley had a good idea of what his dream was now, now that he wasn't put on the spot in front of his class.

He, Chloe, and a third student were buddied up by their teacher, and Chloe offered her house as workspace.

It was Yeardley's first time in a girl's room, and to be honest, he was weirded out. The feeling was mutual, however, as Chloe hadn't intended for them to impinge on her private space. She'd promised them a place to sort out their project, unaware her mom had an illustration deadline to meet the same week, requiring usage of the den.

Yeardley was unaware as well. Totally oblivious this would merely be the first of many stays he'd be making over at the Cerise household, and a separate room in particular.

By then, Chloe had semi-retired from school and taken her education on the road to be a Research Fellow like Goh before her. With Professor Cerise and his assistants cracking an important discovery about a legendary Pokémon up at the Cerise Laboratory, the family's home was, at least in the interim, lived in primarily by Talia and her son Parker.

They'd been introduced that first day of the group assignment. Well, maybe not "introduced," so much as Parker ducking under Yeardley's arm as he raced down the hall, almost knocking Yeardley to the floor!

They didn't formally break the ice until Chloe's last day of school, when their teacher announced Chloe would be leaving, and Talia and Parker came to school to take her to a party they had planned for Ash and Goh.

Parker was just Chloe's younger brother to Yeardley. A name to put to Chloe's brother's face. Every little while though, his teacher would ask him to deliver some of Chloe's homework, and it was an even split between Talia and Parker answering the door.

He and Parker talked outside the door, to start. But gradually, their short hellos evolved into full-blown discussions on the awesomeness of Pokémon, and Yeardley would be invited inside.

Funnily, Yeardley was inspired by an incident of getting frozen by a new student's Glaceon to become an Ice-type Pokémon Trainer in the future. That was his dream, and Parker encouraged him to pursue it.

Time being this wacky, temporally confounding, contradictory, situational thing in the Pokémon universe, by the time Parker was the age Yeardley was when they met and Yeardley should have aged that many years older, they were a lot closer age-wise than logically possible.

They were a lot closer too, Chloe learned upon returning home between research trips.

Suddenly, the boy who used to sit behind her in class was sitting at their dining table, the Cubchoo belonging to her brother's "boyfriend" in Parker's arms, and a Crabominable scurrying around the kitchen!

Although she was sufficiently stumped, Chloe kept her composure.

Previously, she had to be around more Pokémon to appreciate them.

Likewise, she'd acclimate to this.
