Bolt: The Super Human
Chapter 8: Oh, Ohio…Finally!
*somewhere near Ohio*
The lights of the pre-dawn shined down on a red pick-up truck as it continued to drive down the lonely road. Mittens laid her head down onto Bolt's shoulder as he drove the truck trying to fight back the sleep that was creeping up on her while Rhino had his face pressed against the window pane as he snored away.
"Hey, when do you think we'll reach Ohio?" she asked trying to fight back the sleep. Bolt seeing this chuckled before turning his gaze back to the road.
"Soon I hope. Why don't you get some sleep?" he asked with a softness that Mittens noticed he started to use with her since last night.
She shook her head slowly "No. I can't!" was the only thing she said of that manner leaving Bolt confused but knew he wasn't getting a better explanation, he sighed letting it drop.
Tilting her face towards his and stared, focusing on something that Bolt wasn't sure of what. Before Bolt got the chance ask what was wrong she spoke up softly almost a whisper surprising him in the process "Does your back still hurt?" taking his eyes off the road for a moment to stare at her in shock, wondering how she knew.
"Eyes back to the road please." She stated at him flatly causing him to blink before turning his gaze back to the road.
"I…um... I feel fine. It just hurt for an hour." He said a bit bewildered and when she didn't say anything he continued "I'm bionic, my body was made to endure worst things than that!" he gloated a bit towards her but all he got back was a hum.
Bolt quickly glanced at her to check if she had fallen asleep but found her staring at him again, nervously he asked her "What?" she hummed again.
"I like your hair better this way." She stated as she lifted her left hand and ran her fingers through his snow white hair, seeing as how the black hair dye had failed they had to wash it out with a garden hose.
Running her fingers through his hair one last time, Mittens let her hand drop before pulling it to her side much to Bolt's disappointment. Mittens closed her eyes and snuggled up against his side before hiding her face against his bicep, Bolt fought off a smile.
As the afternoon started to roll by Rhino couldn't stay still much to Mittens ire. Rhino twitched again as he fiddled with his finger making Mittens reach out and place her hand on top of his harshly putting a stop to it. At the sound of flesh hitting flesh snapped both Bolt and Rhino from their thoughts and Mittens looked at Rhino with guilt in her eyes at the sudden act she had just committed, especially more when she saw him wince and pull his hand from under hers to rub at unmistakably red hand print on his skin.
Taking his eyes off the road for a second to look at the damage Bolt glared at her before turning to look at road again. "What the hell, Mittens?!" he exclaimed angrily wanting to know why but Mittens stayed quietly and continued to stare at Rhino's hand with shame.
Rhino noticing Mittens guilt and shame just smiled at Bolt "It's alright it sounded worse than what it felt like." He stated bubbly. Hearing this Bolt relaxed a bit, turning just for a spilt second to gauge his expression before concluding that in fact it didn't bother Rhino at all. Bolt let it go but Mittens bit into her lower lip in guilt and regret blinking back tears that wanted to flow down as she stared straight forward onto the nearly empty road that once irritated her a few minutes passed as the tightening in her chest grew.
Two hours later the trio found themselves in front of a gas station and gift shop or how the owners named it Gas&Gift Stop! While Bolt filled up the gas tank Mittens and Rhino browsed the gift shop.
Mittens grabbed a shopping basket and started to fill it up with water bottles, juices and snacks as Rhino went through the five small isle the semi medium gift shop provided only coming back to place items into the basket before heading back again. Once they finished gathering their items they headed towards the cashier that stood behind a glass case that littered different colorful items but Mittens didn't notice any of them as her interest was held by the small rack that was placed on top of the glass case that was filled with maps of different cities in Ohio.
Mittens decided on three maps and handed them to the male clerk as he almost finished ringing their purchases up, Rhino stood next to her quietly. Too quietly Mittens noticed as she turned her attention towards him only to find him glazing dreamingly at the glass case or more like at what was inside the glass case.
There inside stood an action figure of what would have made Mittens laugh loudly if she hadn't been in shock of Bolt The Hero! She wondered why he wasn't asking for it when she noticed the price tag. $150 dollars?! What the flipping hell?
"Miss will that be all?" the middle aged man asked in a monotone snapping Mittens from her thoughts as well as Rhino's.
Nodding dumbly she paid the man as Rhino grabbed the bags and headed outside towards the truck. Mittens moved to go also but stopped when the action figure caught her eye again, it was hundred and fifty dollars! She could feed them for two weeks with that kind of money! Mittens bit her lower lips again 'But I do owe it to him after hitting him… nodding to herself she turned back her attention to the dull man behind the counter.
"Why is that doll so expensive?" she asked pointing at the action figure.
The man glared at her catching Mittens by surprise at the sudden expression on the otherwise unexpressive face. He opened the glass case and reached for action figure next to a beautiful gold necklace with a cat pendent that had two small emerald eyes.
"This ma'am!" he said forcefully "is not a doll!" and this he said mockingly that started to piss Mittens off "It's the first action figure of Bolt The Superhero! It hasn't come out yet in most states!" he exclaimed proudly at what Mittens didn't care "and it also comes with a signed Art book from the creator." Mittens wanted to whimper at what she was about to do.
"Alright I'll take it." She said miserably as she reached into her pocket to take out the money.
The man sneered at her while holding the doll…no action figure far from her as if she would dirty it just by staring at it.
"I doubt you have that kind of money." He said with a snobby tone at Mittens grew up hearing and hating it. She smirked at him as she reached into her pocket grabbed some money and slapped it against the counter hard not caring for the moment of the pain the coursed through her palm and up to her arm.
The man gawked at the amount of money she had slapped down before moving towards the cash register to give Mittens her change. Still smirking Mittens pocketed her money as the man went into the back to get the art book, she looked down to the still open glass case her smirk grew as she noticed the necklace she had admired before. Grabbing it quickly she pulled the price tag off and put it around her neck before pushing it under her white T-shirt and covering the chain with her hair.
The man came back with the rather thick book in his hands and put it into a larger plastic bag along with the action figure all the while not taking his eyes off of hers in an annoyed manner which she returned with an uninterested look as he handed her the bag. Mittens headed for the door and she was near it she heard his mutter "Lucky she didn't notice I left the case open. Then again can't be too smart to call and action figure a doll. A Doll!" He slammed the glass door shut as Mittens left happily as she fingered the beautiful necklace she had just gained.
Rhino sat inside the truck with Bolt who kept staring at the store window wondering what was taking Mittens so long.
"I'll go see what is taking her so long." Bolt stated as he was starting get worried as was Rhino, he moved to turn off the engine.
Rhino stopped him by saying "I'll go." He got off and made his way towards the gift shop when Mittens walked out carrying a large plastic bag and a big smile on her face causing Rhino to smile back in confusion. As Mittens waved him over he staggered a bit before moving closer to him.
When finally they were face to face Mittens pulled him into a one armed hug and said to him "Look, I'm so sorry that I slapped you. I didn't mean to!" Rhino hugged her back "Its fine. It was nothing!" he told her in a happy tone. He had gotten hit worse than her slap throughout his life.
Mittens frown "It's not nothing!" she exclaim angrily. She had hurt him however small it had been she had hurt him and that was not okay. Not when she had been hurt all throughout her childhood, big or small and HE brushed off whatever pain she felt like it was nothing.
"It's not nothing." She said it again but this time softer and more broken before pulling away from him causing him to blink in surprise.
Rhino nodded slowly and stared up into her eyes that glistened a bit from tears that wanted to fall but wouldn't "It's not nothing but I do forgive you." He told her in and the same soft tone she used causing her to smile a bit before clearing her throat and pushed the plastic bag into his arms. "What's this?" he asked as he peered into the bag.
"That's my "I'm very sorry" gift to you." She stated nonchalantly waving her hand in a roundabout way as she headed towards the truck. While she was crawling to her space next to a curious Bolt she heard Rhino give out a delighted whoop before he giggled his way back to the truck.
Bolt turned towards her giving her an inquisitive stare "What was all that about?" he asked amused at Rhino's happiness and Mittens smile.
Smiling bigger to him and she said "Just an apology." as Rhino climbed in shutting the door after him. Shrugging Bolt pulled the car shift towards drive and hit the gas before saying "Alright let's head out!" as they drove away they heard a man yelling out something but Mittens convinced them to keep going.
As they got closer to the city the cloudier and cold it got resulting in Mittens squeezing herself tightly against a very warm Bolt with Rhino pressed against her side to keep the chill always.
"God! Can't we stop somewhere to get warm!" she whimpered against Bolts bicep where she had buried her face on. Rhino nodded his head that lay against Mittens shoulder "And get dinner!" he exclaimed tiredly as he snuggled closer to her to keep warm seeing as how the radiator didn't work.
Bolt laughed a bit at this and trying not blush at how close Mittens had gotten and how her scent filled his senses. "Just as soon as we find a place to stay." He stated earning him only a hum from Mittens and a groan from Rhino.
"It's cold!" Mittens complained as she tried to snuggle closer to Bolt but couldn't seem to get warm enough. Bolt after hearing her complain for tenth time sighed "How about you think of something else. Maybe that'll help." He suggest softly as seeing that Rhino kept nodding off not that Mittens seem to notice.
Blinking Mittens tried to think of something else other then her body's response to the cold and the only think that came to mind was that Bolt seemed hotter than before, did he have a fever? Mittens frown at the thought, lifting her head to check whether her suspicions were true.
Feeling her stare he for a spilt second caught her gaze before turning back to the road, opening his mouth to ask her what was the matter but was cut off by her instead.
"Why are you hotter than before?" she asked him causing him to blush.
"What?" he exclaimed surprised. Bolt didn't know she was attracted to him 'I mean, yes sure she smells nice?…no that's not the word… Bolt frown what was the right word.
"Do you have a fever?" she asked worriedly which caused him to blink in confusion before processing it.
"Fever? What? No, I don't have a fever." He stated firmly to her before continuing "My body adapts to the climate change but it has always ran a higher temperature than normal." She nodded slowly as the information seeped into her brain then laid her head back down to rest it against his bicep. "Had me worried there for a second." She smiled happily before lifting her head a bit as she saw the welcoming sign of the city of Dublin.
She snuggled up to Bolt again before saying "Welcome to Dublin!"
Somewhere near Ohio
The sells clerk to Gas&Gift Stop muttered angrily as he wiped the glass counter vigorously when he heard the little chime at the door signaling that customers had come.
"Welcome." The clerk greeted monotonously to bothering to look up until they approached the counter. A male with dirty blond hair that slightly covered his piercing and cold silver eyes stood in front of him while two other males stood behind the blond man. One of the men had black military cut hair and the other had shoulder length brown hair it being a bit longer than the blond man's.
"Can I help you?" he asked this voice breaking a bit as fear ran down his spine. Something told him that these men weren't here to buy anything.
"Yes. Have you seen this man or this woman?" the blond man asked in a bored tone as he pulled out two pictures of Bolt and Mittens from his black jacket suit and showed him. The two men behind him seemed to reach into their jackets as well before pulling out only the bud of two very shiny guns as to give him motivation to tell the truth.
The shop clerk raised a shaking finger and pointed towards Mittens before saying "Th…That's her! She came into this shop a few hours again and brought a few things and maps." The blond man perked at this, waving his hand to the map rack next to him "Show which ones." He stated happily and the clerk carefully pulled the rack closer to himself and started to search for the maps the girl had gotten.
Once he found them he pushed towards the blond man. Reaching for them than stuffing them into his jacket the man turned to leave only to be stop by the clerk.
"You have to pay for those." He said weakly shaking a bit but the blond man turned and smiled at him pleasantly.
"Forgive me! I forgot." He stated happily as he reached his hand into the brown haired man's jacket and pulled out his gun before shooting the sells clerk in the shoulder. The three man walked always from the shop as the clerk screamed in pain.
"Was that even necessary, Nat?" the man with the military cut asked the blond man. Nat turned to glare at him in distain as he handed the other man his gun back before walking always from them towards a black mini van.
And so I finally finished this chapter. Somebody asked me what BHDG01 stands for but I'm sorry to say that you'll have to wait since I'm planning on revealing it later in the story! Please R&R!
