Midnight

It's midnight and Austin Moon is sleeping in his bedroom, dreaming probably about pancakes and snuggling Dougie the dolphin. A knock on his front door interrupts him from his slumber and he groans as he sluggishly walks down to see who it is.

It's midnight and all he wants to do is to go back to the comfort of his bed. What could possibly be so important to wake him up. He hoped someone was dying or hurt or something or else he would-

Oh. He thinks as the sight that greats him breaks him.

His songwriter, partner and bestfriend is in the doorway, eyes red and puffy as she looks up at him. She sniffles, tears running down her face and her eyes suggest that she's begging for comfort. Suddendly, the time isn't important to him anymore.

It's midnight and he immeadiately lets her in, though not before giving her a well deserved hug. She clings to him, tears running down her face even more as she sobs, wetting his night shirt. He doesn't ask her why she's here as he knows her well enough that she'll soon tell him. He does however, rub her back soothingly and comfortably, whispering It's Okay in her ear.

It's midnight as they stand there for a while, her sobs gradually decreasing as he continues to pat her back. They then cease, and he pulls away to look at her.

Her puffy eyes look back at him, still sniffling. She opens her mouth , as if to say something but he shushs her.

"You can tell me in the morning." The shadows under her eyes give away the fact that she hasn't slept in a while.

She nods, and heads to the couch. She looks to him, her brown eyes motioning to the couch and he nods.

It's midnight and he doesn't care as he embraces her, kissing her forehead as she settles comfortably next to him. She wraps her arm around him as she nuzzles him. It's moments before she speaks.

"Thank you." Her soft voice cut across the silence and it reminds him that of a child. He goes to tell her that it's alright and that he'll always be there for her, only to meet even breathing and to find her stomach slowly raising and dropping. He kisses her forehead as he draws her closer to him.

It's past midnight as Austin rubs her back and settles down to sleep himself. His eyes become drowsy as he welcomes the feeling, still embracing her as he sleeps.
