One year later
Freddie walked through the front door of the Benson home after finishing up a long day at work. He hung up his jacket as he walked into the kitchen where he found Leah examining her makeup in the toaster.
"Hey, Leah," Freddie smiled, kissing the top of her head. "You going somewhere?"
"Yeah, I'm going out," the fourteen-year old said brightly.
"Where are you going?" Freddie asked.
"Just to get some ice cream," Leah told him.
"Oh…okay," Freddie nodded. "You need money?"
"Nah, I have some," Leah replied. She looked at her phone. "Ugh, Kira needs to hurry up already! They're gonna be here any minute!"
"You're going out with your sister?" Freddie smirked. It wasn't often the twins willingly did things together outside of the house.
"Yeah, if she can get her butt down here in time!" Leah said, frustrated. "I thought I took forever, but she's worse than me! I did her make-up an hour ago and she still hasn't figured out what she's going to wear!"
"Make-up?" Freddie frowned. "Kira's wearing make-up?"
"I'm gonna go see what's taking her so long," Leah said, shaking her head. "This is ridiculous."
"Wait, why is Kira wearing-" Freddie started, but Leah had already run off upstairs.
"Hey baby, I thought I heard you come in," Sam smiled as she walked into the room, Kyle on her hip. She gave him a quick kiss as Kyle held out his arms for his father to pick him up.
"Hey," Freddie replied, taking Kyle. "Hi Kyle. Did you miss daddy today?"
"Da!" Kyle giggled.
"He's been all over the place today," Sam told him. "Ever since he learned to toddle he seems determined to make sure I chase him around the house at least ten times a day."
Freddie laughed as he rustled Kyle's hair. "So where are the twins going? I can't believe they're actually going out together. Is it the full moon already?"
"Nah," Sam chuckled. "Apparently they met this set of guy twins at school last week and they invited the girls to go out for ice cream tonight."
"Wait, what?" Freddie exclaimed. "They're going out with boys? Why was I not informed?"
"It's just ice cream," Sam shrugged, somewhat amused by her husband's reaction.
"You know what ice cream leads to?" Freddie cried. "It leads to pizza dates! And those lead to dates in dark movie theatres where kissing happens!"
"Come on, they're fourteen, they're gonna want to start dating," Sam said.
"Well if they want to start jumping off cliffs, are we gonna let them do that?" Freddie snapped.
"Okay, you're being overdramatic," Sam said, rolling her eyes.
"Did you see the skirt Leah was wearing," Freddie continued, ignoring Sam's comment. "If you can even call it a skirt. There's barely any fabric on that thing!"
"She's worn that skirt a million times and you've never had a problem with it," Sam pointed out.
"Well she wasn't frolicking with boys then!" Freddie defended.
"Look, the boys are going to be here any minute and their mom is going to drive them to the ice cream shop," Sam told him. "If you want, you can meet them."
"Oh you bet I will!" Freddie said firmly.
Just then there was a knock at the door.
"There, that's them now," Sam said, taking Kyle from Freddie. "I'll go tell the girls, you can go let the boys in."
"Stupid boys," Freddie mumbled angrily under his breath as he stormed off to the front door. He opened it up to reveal two teenage boys that barely reached his shoulder.
"Hi," one of them said politely. "We're here for Leah and Kira. Are you their father?"
"Yes," Freddie said, rolling up the sleeves of his shirt to reveal his muscles. "Come in…sorry if I seem a little tired. I just finished working out at the gym where I lifted 300 pounds."
"Wow, that's…um, a lot," the other boy said.
"Take a seat, the girls will be down in a second," Freddie said, motioning for the boys to sit on the couch. "Now boys, I didn't catch your names-"
"Oh, my name is-" the first boy started.
"I don't care," Freddie cut him off. "Boys…tonight must be a big night for you. You get to go on a date with two pretty girls, you get some ice cream, you get some new pictures to put on your profile page…"
"Yeah, it's gonna be a blast!" the second boy grinned.
"Is it?" Freddie smirked. He leaned down so he was now face-to-face with the two. "Well, let me just make a few things quite clear. I love my daughters very much. They're great girls. Any boy would be more than lucky to date them. Now, if you do anything to either one of my girls; if you hurt them, if you don't treat them with respect, if you make them cry…well, it's not going to be a good day for you, you can be sure of that."
"We-We won't hurt them," the first boy squeaked, his eyes wide.
"Yeah, we promise," the second boy nodded.
"Good," Freddie said, straightening up and crossing his arms.
"Hi Connor!" Leah said, returning to the room with Leah and Sam.
"Hi Cole," Kira said to the other boy, giving him a small smile. "You guys, um, ready to go?"
"Yes!" the boys said quickly, jumping to their feet.
"We'll be back by ten," Leah told her parents.
"Have fun," Freddie said.
"Bye girls," Sam smiled as she watched the four teens leave through the front door. Once they were gone, she turned to Freddie. "Why did those boys look like they were about to cry?"
"No clue," Freddie said simply, picking up Kyle. "Kyle, you're not going to give me chest pains like your sisters, are you?"
"Ba!" Kyle babbled, pulling a handful of Freddie's hair.
"You're such a nub," Sam smirked. She looked at the clock on the wall. "But, now that the girls are out, we have…three hours to ourselves. Why don't we put Kyle to bed and have our own little date night? Maybe I can help you relieve some of that stress of yours."
"I think I can get on board with that," Freddie chuckled as Sam wrapped her arms around his neck. He leaned down and kissed her.
"I love you, baby," he whispered when he pulled away.
"Love you too," Sam smiled.
