So… this series was actually a couple of OS that I had to write off my chest. Somehow they belonged together so this is a small series now. English is not my first language, sorry for that in advance. This series focuses more on their relationship, so not much revolution content going on here. Other fanfics have covered that pretty well, better than I could ever write. I've written V/Ev pretty differently than the original, so please don't hate…. xx.

Disclaimer: I don't own any of the characters of V for Vendetta.

The leap

„V, I'm going out. Do you need anything?" she said loudly for him to hear.

There was a low muffling sound and she saw V peek halfway through the doorway.

„Oh really? Where are you going?" Sometimes it bothered her how controlling V was, now was such a time. „I just needed some fresh air…" She knelt down to zip up her boots.

"We could go upstairs for fresh air if you like."

She was getting irritated. Not because of his invitation but because she knew what it meant. He was worried for her going out alone.

She did understand where his worries were coming from. After her being held in custody she was anxious for a while too. But Finch had given her his word that they wouldn't look for her or V again.

After the fateful night of the 5th November, she had kept a low profile like before, using her fake ID. She had been successful with it in the past, still she didn't like the idea that people might recognising her. But after months and months of the revolution progressing other people came to the fore.

People like Mark Chambers or Natalie Wulff. Leaders of the revolution. Faces of a new nation.

V had become a legend and Evey slowly got forgotten as his helper. Which she greatly appreciated. She never wanted fame and power and the feeling of seeing her face on the news was more than discomforting.

So she decided that the unnerving habit of shaving could stop and she let her hair grow out again.

One late evening she had been wandering the streets, without a certain goal. Her conversation with V had left her devastated – again. He seemed like a dark pit without an end in sight, swallowing every ray of hope like darkness absorbed the light.

Somehow she found herself at a gas station, choosing between their assortment of drinks in the fridge section. She looked around. No one was there expect the cashier who gave her a weird look. Evey didn't know why, but she always hated the atmosphere of gas stations. Maybe it was the people that always seemed to be in a hurry. Or maybe it was the cameras filming every corner.

She paid for her small bottle of sparkling wine and headed for the door. To her surprise two tall men were standing in the doorway, scanning the site.

"Miss, I'd kindly ask you to follow us." One of them approached her. Evey was weighing her options. They seemed too strong to overwhelm. She didn't have her pepper spray with her. One of them held his hand suspiciously close to his pocket. Maybe a gun?

"I thought Fingermen were dismissed from service." She said. Maybe she could buy herself some time..

"We're not Fingermen." Said the other one and pulled out what looked like a police badge. Police?

"For what offence?" She crossed her arms. At least they wouldn't try to rape her.

"Miss, we've been notified by the System of your position. We've been instructed to take you to the police department. The rest will be settled there."

There was no way around it. Evey followed the two men to step in the back of the police car which was parked hurriedly in the front.

As she later figured out the "System" was a newly implemented face recognition software which was an update to the Eye.

She stayed in custody for two days. Nobody would talk to her or explain why she was here. As far as Evey knew the new government didn't prosecute violations against Norsefire that were dated before the revolution. But then.. What did she know?

They put her into an interrogation room. The scenario was weirdly familiar...V had performed her imprisonment to perfection.

After what felt like an hour or two a young officer came inside. He was alone. Not looking up from the folder he was holding he started to speak.

"Miss, as you know you've been arrested due to..." he looked up at her. A questioning look on his face

".. You are Evey Hammond?"

"If it says so in your records it certainly must be true then." Evey said.

The officer turned around to head for the door.

"Excuse me." He said and left.

That's it? Evey was starting to get angry. She knew her position was quite the predicament. But she needed to have clarity. Why was she here now after the revolution had been successful? What kind of prosecution would she get? And the most important question of them all... Would she ever be able to see V again?

„Don't you trust me?" He was taken aback by her tone.

„Of course I do. " V felt slightly hurt by her question. „I just don't want anything happen to you."

„I know, V. We've had this conversation multiple times. It feels like we're in a hamster wheel. Again and again. You just have to trust my ability not to get in trouble, okay?"

He didn't answer and she knew he was weighing his options.

„It's close to Christmas, the streets will be crowded and beautiful. I just want to take it in."

„As you wish." His answer wasn't without a bitter undertone but she let that slide. There was more.

„Thank you, V. Oh, and one more thing… „

He was all ears.

„I don't want you to follow me-"

„I didn't mean to follow you, my dear." He answered lightly.

„-or put me under whatever surveillance system you have." Now this was different. His mood shifted.

„Look, I won't be sitting in here watching your every step. But some safety measures have to…"

„No. " she interrupted him rather rudely.

He took a step toward her, one hand lifted as to touch her.

„Why?" he asked, finally gripping her upper arm gently.

„There's a short answer and a long one."

„Evey, just say it." He dropped it immediately. She let out a sigh.

„Because I don't want you to." There, he had the short answer. From his posture she knew he wasn't satisfied.

„Putting me under surveillance, well, it's what stalkers do. And I really don't like the way where our relationship is heading.

I want you to trust me. I know its tough for you. That's why I have a suggestion."

„I'll take my phone with me and I promise you that I'll be at all times available if you call me."

„Thats not enough." He simply said. Did he need a reminder, that she wasn't asking for his permission but was trying to ease his irrational fear?

„Okay.. We'll set a time. I'll call you then, so you'll know I'm fine. If I don't call or you cannot reach me, feel free to use any espionage gadget to find me. I'm OK with that."

„Espionage gadget?" she could hear the smirk in his voice.

„Oh come on! Don't mock me!"

He laughed now, which lifted the mood for both of them.

„I cannot promise this will work in the long run, but for today I'll accept."

Evey smiled at him and turned to leave, closing the door with a small thud behind her.

„Hello."

„Hello." Evey replied regretting coming instantly.

„Why don't you come inside? It's freezing cold." His smile was genuine, kindness beaming from his eyes.

Before she could reply, he had pushed the door open, warmth radiating invitingly.

She grabbed her coat firmer around herself while stepping through the door. Was this a good idea? If V found out… There was no turning back now. Would he be angry? Heartbroken? ‚He doesn't have to know. This is for you. You need this.' she reaffirmed herself.

They took a few steps in a dimly lit hallway. Pictures and posters of unknown faces covering part of the brick. They walked in silence, Evey was suddenly very conscious of her faster beating heart.

They reached the entrance of another room she suspected which was better lit, a glass door letting the light through to illuminate his face. He stopped and looked at her.

„I don't even know your name." He said. As if knowing her name would make a difference now. She was here. No turning back.

„Lily…My name is Lily." She pressed her lips together. Lying still felt horrible. Was this the start of a chain of lies? Disguising her betrayal to V?

„That's a beautiful name." A moment of silence while they stood in front of the door." I'm glad you accepted my offer to come. After you…" He chivalrously opened the door for her. With a deep breath she took a step forward.

There's no turning back now.
